Introduction

A new strain of the Ophiocordyceps Unilateralis fungus appeared, with the ability to target human hosts. Those who become infected in one day turns into a killing machine, with hunger for human meat, and the desire to spread the disease. Altough some infected show their resentment, they cannot control themselves, as the parasite has attached itself to the lymbic region of their brain.

Always seeking to kill and eat uninfected humans in order to keep alive and fed, and to at least bite the few lucky ones that escapes in order to spread the infection. The disease is global, and this pandemic is causing a massive death toll all across the globe. In 3 months, vaccination tests have failed, showing no signs of cure, or at least a treatment to prevent infection. The US has institued martial law, forcing it's citizens into quarantine zones to keep themselves safe from the infected.

It's been three months since the initial global outbreak. Communications with other nations are cut, and even communication between states or cities are extremely difficult. Everyone lost someone to those things. A group of survivors however, along with most people, weren't lucky enough to make it to the safe zone. Trapped in the rooftop of a building, during the night, the sounds and groans of the infected all around the street, along with the screams of fellow survivors dying in anguish and pain, they cannot sleep. They plan to make their way to the quarantine zone of Boston.

Toggle Rules

Hey there. So the rules for this roleplay are quite simple to be honest.

1- Respect others. No one wants to start a fight and ruin the fun for everybody else. Let's be civil, and have fun. That is the purpose of this roleplay.

2- When creating a character, please no Godmode. This ruins the fun for everyone else if your character is invencible. Remember to keep your feet on the terrain. The weapons your character uses cannot be anything overpowered as well. This is the beggining of the Apocalypse, instead of the 20 years later from the game. So, weapons such are very much allowed, but as time passes, those guns and ammo for them will be even more scarce.

3- No soldier characters. All characters need to be common people trying to survive in the apocalypse.

4- When using another player character remember to message them first and ask for permission. This way, everyone can contribute with everyone's posts making the story more fluid, and better to read. Also, remember to keep their characters according to their personality intended by their owner.

5- Do not worry about gore. Of course, the game didn't had to much elements of gore, but it's a apocalypse. So it's ok to have gore.

6- Write the posts as you would a book. In my life as a roleplayer I'm tired of seeing roleplays of one sentence long by each player. They get a thousand replies, and the story goes nowhere.

7- No swords, sais, morning stars, staffs or anything of the sort. Such weapons are extremely rare, and very unlikely to be used in such an event, instead of the good old shotgun. Machetes, hatchets, and the likes are ok.

8- If your character uses a bow or crossbow, explain how he learned to use it, how he got it and such. Weapons like thee aren't easy to find either.

9- Dont go overbors with the f-bombs. Of course, a good fight full of swearings is good, but don't go overboard and make your character or any others involved, always say something like this in every sentence as if it is common language.

10- No immune characters.

As for the character sheet:

Name:

Age:

Gender:

Appearance:

Former occupation:

Personality:

History:

Weapons:

Location: (Where was he born?)
Other: (Anything you want to address here that doesn't fit the other topics of your sheet? Add it here.)

The story takes place three months after the initial outbreak. My original plan is to as the story progresses, the years pass, until we reach the point of the game (20 years later), and from there, to keep going even further. Hat's my original intention but it all depends on how well this RP does.

That's it. :)

OBS: This is basically a copy and paste of an RP I tried making a while ago. I remade it under a slightly different name to try and have more people playing it. Last time it was only one besides me, and the person didn't even posted. However I had some health issues, and couldn't come back to tell him/her what was happening, so by the time I came back he/she maybe wasn't even interested anymore. However, I'm fully recovered now, and even if something similar happens in the future (Please God, no more car crashes) I'll wont leave the RP unatended. But this time I hope things are different, as I am a big fan of the game and the universe within it, and I want to create something fun for those equally fans of the game. :)

Boston. The cries of anguish and the groans of pain fill the air around. The disgusting smell of rotting flesh and death permeates the air. Clouds of smoke can be seen in various locations of the city, announcing the chaos. Lamps flickering, and electric cables flopping around, gives a very apocalyptic feeling to anyone who survived the initial outbreak. Very few people survived. The strongest, the most brilliant minded… The luckiests…
For many, it had nothing to do with luck, but unluck. Many couldn’t take the heavy losses they had. Losing every little thing that they had, and even their hole families, mass suicides were commited. The military tried rescuing as much people as possible, but they eventually stopped all searches. The ones who didn’t killed themselves, or weren’t rescued by the military, try desperately to reach the quarantine area on their own, in hopes the military might take them in.

On top of a nearby roof, a group of survivors rest before making their suicidal run to the quarantine zone. Casper, a young man stared at the lights of the quarantine zone, his body completely paralized. Most would think that this was irrational fear, but it was clear to the people around him that Casper was thinking of a way of getting out of there. However his thinking was interrupted by the people that were with him. David and Erik were having a discussion.

"You can go and die for all I care. I'm not leaving this roof!!"

"You are a coward. You want to live, but how do you expect to make it out of here if you don't fight for it?" said Erik without demonstrating any kind of emotion trough his eyes.

David was an ok guy. He was tall and pretty strong, used to be a constructor worker before all this. Pretty strong physically, he was pretty weak mentally, and very cowardly. He could get panicked easily, and in situations that such occurred, he was likely to behave like he was now. He protects his friends, but don’t think twice on letting others die. However, to be considered a friend of his, was a considerable task. In the moment, Casper, Erik and everybody else were nothing but other people he couldn't care less.

"You two, stop!!"

The discussion died in the moment a young girl, Anna entered in the middle of them, screaming at them, telling them to stop.

Anna was a pretty sweet girl. Mostly she is very caring, and even in a situation such as this, she is very compassionate
of others. She is very innocent, a problem most people exploit, for their own good. A good follower, but a bad leader, as she often can’t handle pressure, and being blamed by wrong decisions. She is very innocent and relyes on her emotions more than logic.

"If we are to make out of here together, we have to act together. We can't be at each other's throats right now." said Anna.

Erik chuckled, raising both of his hands as a sign of an apology, turning around and walking a bit torwards the edge of the roof. He sat, putting his bag at his side, as he leaned to check whatever was left of what he had.

"At least we're not short on ammo". he said.

Sitting far from the others was Tierman Hacket, a mysterious figure. Casper couldn't figure anything out from him. It only seemd he didn't cared for anyone else, and probably not even his own life.

Casper tough to himself how the situation was troubling. To many people with to many different ideals, was a train ready to derail. However he couldn't just leave them, and like Anna herself stated, their only chance was to act together, as on, to save themselves.

They met when they were all separately running from the infected. Casper met Anna first, and shortly after, David and Tierman. THye managed to mak their way up to the roof of this building silently. A few hours later, when the night had already fallen, Erik appearead with a gun on his hand, threatening them all. Casper however managed to calm him, and altough Erik made it pretty clear he didn't trusted any of them, he would cooperate for his own sake. What little information Casper managed to grasp from them, in such little time was that David, despite his intimidating size and muscles, was nothing more than a coward. Anna was pretty innocent and if not cared for, would definetely fall upon the dangers of this world. Erik wasn't a bad man, but not exactly good either. He felt very cold, and at least for Casper, it seemed he was a very cold person. Of course he met him half an hour ago, so how could he be sure of any of that.

His toughs were interrupted by the sudden asound of a car crash. He ran to the edge of the building, and saw a car crashed into a post. The sound made countless infected groan and come out of the buildings they were in, and sortly after a mob could be seen running at the car from afar. It seemd as if they were after the car for quite some time. By a close examination of the scene Casper managed to pinpoint that it was a family of four. A couple plus their two daughters.

"We gotta help them!!" Said Anna.

"Fuck them! I'm not going down there, even if it was my mom!!" screamed David.

"Shut up, you dumbfuck. They will hear us otherwise." said Erik, apparently sick of David and his mumbling.

"Anna's right. We gotta help them... If we don't-" said Casper. However a grave tone came out of what seemed nowhere, interrupting him.

"No. They're valuable baits." said Tierman, his voice being heard for the first time since they first met.

Anna simply frowned while Casper face showd sing of surprise and repulse. He was about to bash Tierman's words when he followed.

"Just take a look. Casper."

Casper observed the scene from a bit. While Anna and Tierman apparently debated about what was right or wrong in that moment, Casper reached a conclusion.

"He's right." Anna turned in confusion not sure she had heard it right. Tierman just remained there, his face showing no sign of any kind of emotions at all. "The sound is drawing the infected. This whole building will get clear, giving us a gap we can exploit to get out of here."

"How can you say something like this!!! How can you agree to-"

"Anna we have no choice." Casper said, his eyes clearly showing remorse and sadness but also showing he had no intention of backing away from that plan.

Erik got up, walked closer to them, and then spoke. "I know how you feel Anna. But in the world we live now, there is no room for mistakes. If you win you live. If you lose, you die. Those people down there... They already lost." He stared at the ground for a few seconds before turning his eyes back to her. "Lets win."

Anna cried for a bit, but she couldn't argue against that. In this new world, as recent as it was, only the strongest and smartes would be able to survive. Anyone else, were simply food, or new hosts for the cordyceps.

The voice of the girls screaming in panic as the infected broke the windowns, and dragged them out, made their father panicked. As he opened the door to get out, grabbing his pistol, an infected bit his leg, and other threw him on the ground. His screams of agony mixed with his daughters, who were being ripped and eaten alive, made the woman simply stay there paralyzed until one of them grabbed her, and pushed her out of the vehicle, ripping her apart, her blood splattering into the street, car and walls.

Anna couldn't help but feel sadness for their fate, and anger torwards her weakness. Tierman just stood there, like he didn't cared. Erik went back to pick up his backpack, while Casper made his way into the door.

"I have all the plan traced out. Just follow my intructions and we'll get out of here." said Casper as he opened the door leading to the building's interior.

"We are seriously going to resort to this brat now?" said David.

"Anyone's better than you." said Erik as he passed trough the door Casper was holding.

After everyone passed and walked the stairs down, Casper noticed Tierman remained thre, near the edge watching the car. He was apparently watching the family geting eaten.

"Tierman hey. Let's move."

Tierman turned around, and walked torwards the door. As soon as he passed trough Casper, all he could feel was the coldness of his behavior. However, little did he knew Tierman shed a tear back there, as he remembered of his wife. Casper closed the door behind him. It would be now or never. They would either make it to the quarantine zone... or die on the way.

As Casper dropped back to get Tierman to go with them Erik move ahead to take point, shouldering his rifle to pull out his machete. The rifle was going to be no use in close quarters like the stairwell, and even though it was suppressed the noise would still draw attention. They encountered no one on the stairwell but as they approached the bottom of the stairs right before the door Erik began to hear shuffling. He pulled the whole party up short right before the door.

"Why are we stopping" David whispered as he started for the door.

Erik swept his arm out catching David in the chest with his forearm ad flattening him against the wall. He glared at him and put a finger to his lips. Dave started to move again and Erik put the machete to his neck. "There are zed outside" he whispered furiously "if you get in the way of me and survival I will end you, get it, meat?" David gulped and nodded, slowly.

"Alright Brains" he said to Casper, "what's the big plan"

"First things first, we need to clear this area. Make for those apartment buildings across the way." Casper explained

"Really" Erik quipped "high density housing? That's gonna get up close and personal"

"It's our best option, with all those adjoining rooms and buildings we should be able to make it to the end of the block with out being too exposed" Casper countered, getting nods of agreement from the rest of the party.

"Alright, shit." Erik muttered. "I'm going first, I'll get to that fire escape and cover you." He sheathed his machete and unslung his rifle from his shoulder and moved of slow and low in a shooters crouch to the other side of the street. He climbed the fire escape and motioned for the first person to cross.

Everyone was clenching in fear. Casper, despite his plan, seemed to be unsure if he would be able to handle the pressure if anyone died. Erik, despite his courageous behavior, seemed to be wandering if this plan was actually the best course of action. Anna was clearly frighrened as she made as much effort as she could to make as little sound as possible as she clenched her fists and cried. David was clearly acting cowardly as ever. He would make for a really good fighter, if it weren't for his cowardice.

Tierman however, didn't seemed to care. Everything he once held dear was slain right in fron of his eyes. He didn't cared if he lived or died. He didn't cared if anyone with him lived or died. He would easily leave them all if they screwed up without a second tough, as long as they weren't "usable" anymore, but would seem like a good companion, saving their lives as much as possible as long as sticking with them and having them alive actually helped him.

In the end, Tierman wasn't anything but an egotistical man, aiming for nothing but his own survivial. Like said before, not that he cared. He could die there right now, he would finally have peace. But he didn't wanted to feel the pain of death. And what if death didn't granted him peace? What if a conflict with one of those things... zeds, as Erik mentioned then, would only turn him into one of them granting a whole new and worse level of hell?

He would fight to live, but if he died, then so be it.

He grabbed the hammer from David's hand, walked closer to the infected Erik had spotted and hit him hard in the back of it's head, a crack sound being heard, and blood splattering everywhere. As soon as he unstucked the hammer, the body fell to the ground, the cranial mass, and parts of the brain splattering on the floor.

He walked a bit more across the street, and stopped as he saw two more infected. One of them spotted him, but before it could even make a run, a precise shot hit it right between the eyes. Tierman looked behind him and saw Erik, guns in his hands, a bit of smoke coming from the gun's chamber. Tierman moved forward again, and hit the other one, repeating the same process as before. Any sound they made was being muffled by the screams and groans of the mob surrounding the dead family's bodies, eating them relentlesly.

As soon as he made his way to the other side of the street, hiding in a dark alley, Erik mtioned for the next person to go across. First David, then Anna, then Casper. As soon as everyone had crossed, Erik came down from the fire escape and met with them.

"So far so good." said Erik. "But we still have a considerable distance between us and the quarantine zone. We'll won't be able to make it like this."

"Yes we will." countered Casper. "Right after this alleyway there will be a hole that links directly to the sewer. We can taverse from underground evading most of the horde."

"And how will we know in which sewer hole to get out?" asked Anna.

"That's why it's always good to have a map." said Casper grinning while he brought a small map all bent, from his pocket. "It's quite small but not that hard to read."

"What are we waiting for? Let's go then!" said David rushing trough the alleyway. Tierman put a hand on his shoulder, making him stop.

"Don't be stupid. We're better off if we stick together." he said.

At the eyes of most peole on the grou Tierman seemed like a pretty altruistic guy, caring for the life of those around him. It wasn't the case. David would be a valuable bait in case things got ugly.

They passed trough the dark alleyway as they heard shuffles and more groans from inside the apartments around. A body fel trough one of the windows, cracking in the groun, blood splattering to the walls. Anna almost screamed of terror, but Erik put his hand on her mouth and told her to be quiet. She recomposed herself.

"I'm ok... I'm ok..." she said. Erik then grabbed his gun from the ground and continued moving with the rest.

As soon as they made it to the edge of the street, the sewer hole was there. However, with a huge horde of those things right on top of it.

"Shit."said Erik. "No way we can take all of them. What do we do?"

Casper remained there, motionless. Most people would think he was immobilized in terror but that wasn't the case as he suddenly turned to his group, especially to Erik.

"Erik, do you have any flares?"

"Yes, in fact I do..." he said, grabing one from his backpack. "I got it from a dead guy a few hours before I met y'all."

"Good, that's good... But that's not enough yet." he turned to David. "David, you and Tierman go back and grab one of those bodies."

David felt disgusted to do so, but he had no choice. Tierman didn't objected, and both of them wnt back, and came just as fast, David holding the body of the last one they had killed.

"Right. You see that ambulance over there? It's clear, go over there, and drop the body at it's side."

"You're crazy? I'm not going to do this shit!!" said David.

"Stop being such a coward for at least one second, you piece of shit." said Erik obivously irritated torwards David.

Before a fight between the two could erupt, Tierman interupted both of them. "Why can't we just thrwo the falre over there and be done with it?"

"They can hear pretty well. The sound of a flare would attract most of them, but would also make tem more alert to any presence around. Also if we attempted to open the hole, they would immediately hear us, and come for us. By using the body, and throwing the flare at it, we make sure that they are attracted to the sound, and have something to keep them busy. Busy enough for them to not listen to the sound of the hole opening, becuase they have a better thing to do."

"I see..." Tierman replied.

"If this scumbag ins't gonna do it, I will." said Erik.

"No, you are our gunmen, you are a valuable member for us to send n such a rsiky task. It needs to either be David or Tierman." Casper answered.

"I'll won't go in there!!" said David shaking in fear.

Tierman got up, grabbed the body and just went. He managed to bring the body to the ambulance without attracting any attention to him, while Erik covered him, in the worst case scenario. As soon as he dropped the body and came back, Erik lit the flare, throwing it at the body. The flock went as fast as they eye could see, and they screamed in a twisted pleasure, all while their faces showed incredible fear and regret. They all started tearing the body apart. The party made their way to the sewer hole, opened it, and climbed down torwards it.

"Holy shit, it really stinks in here!" said Erik, putting one of his hands on his mouth and nose. Anna vomited on the ground.

"You ok?" asked Casper.

"Yeah I'm... fine... let's just get this over with..."

"What's the next step." said Erik.

Casper grabbed his map and checed it. "We have to go that way."

"Ok." said Erik, as he slunged his rifle on his back and unsheated his machete. "Y'all stay close to me if you wanna live. And it would be good if you could actually help at least once, you pussy." he said staring at David.

David however remained silent, altough clenhcing his fists with anger. The group made their way trough the sewer tunnels, hoping to make their way unharmed to the so sought 'safe haven'...

Beverly walked swiftly and silently down the nearly abandoned city street. At this time, Beverly was in Boston. She flew in a couple months ago to visit her father & brother. Her flight back obviously was probably not ever going to happen now considering the fact there had been an enormous outbreak of a newly found deadly virus with no cure. The street was almost completely silent except for the few sounds of moaning and groaning coming from a couple of the undead figures walking around. Luckily, it wasn't very hard to avoid them.

Beverly threw her last cigarette on the road and stomped on it. It wasn't really the time for her to be lighting up smokes but she couldn't help herself. Being alone in this kind of time and place was putting a lot of stress on Beverly. She's luckily to have even survived this long. Beverly recently lost her only companion, her brother, to a hoard of the undead. After that she really hadn't given a shit about what happens next. Beverly was mostly lost in thought half time or busy fighting for her life.

Upon her walk, Beverly spotted an extremely large hoard of "zombies" over by an ambulance. It seemed as if they were violently ripping apart the body of a once alive human being. The thought absolutely sickened her. How was she supposed the avoid this? This was nothing like what she'd dealt with before. Before it was just a couple of them that she easily took out her the small pocket knife she would carry for emergencies. Beverly had a small pistol on her but barely had any rounds. Plus, the sound of the gunshot would likely just attract more and end up in her dying.

Looks like she'd half to take a risk. Beverly made her way closer the hoard and none of them had even looked up from their 4 course meal yet. This was a good sign. It meant she just might have a chance of crossing the blob safely and unseen. At this point she was only about a couple of feet away from the zombies and had no choice but to turn into the sketchiest alley way Beverly had seen here in Boston. Making her way into the alleyway, Beverly was clumsy enough to trip over a small pile of garbage which made a quite large amount of noise, and of course, it most definitely caught the undead's attention.

Before she knew, Beverly was running for her life. At the end of the alleyway was nothing but more of those vile zombies. She was lucky enough to find an open manhole that led down to the main sewers. Faster than Beverly could ever imagine she climbed down into the dark smelly sewers and continued running. Who knows if those things could make their way down here without breaking?!

The farther down the sewers she got she realized that she had no idea where the hell she was going. Beverly eventually started to get tired and slowed down to a simple jog. It had been 10 minutes and at this point Beverly didn't know whether she just wanted to give up or keep going just to fail in the end. Suddenly, the shadows of at least 4 or 5 figures came into vision. Although it was almost impossible to tell if they were human or not.

The figures had obviously heard Beverly's muffled footsteps because they turned around with alert faces and even weapons drawn. Well at least she knew they were human. Beverly raised both hands to signal she was not going to hurt anymore. The people gave her dirty and suspicious looks but said no words.

"I'm not going to hurt anyone, I swear. I'm just trying to run from the hoard up above. I guess I'll be going now...I'm sorry." Beverly whispered with nervousness clearly in her shaky voice. She turned around and started to head back the way she came hoping something good would finally happen.

As she turned and started to walk back from the way she came, Casper stepped up.

"Wait!"

She turned around slowly, her eyes meeting his. She was scared. Casper sensed it, and tried to put on a calming smile on his face.

"If you go that way, any of those things managed to track you down here, will get you. It's better if we stick together. You can come with us if you want."

"I... don't know..." she said trembling.

Anna walked closer to her, and tried to confort her by placing her left hand on Beverly's shoulder. She shurgged it off as fast as she could and walked a bit backwards, almost falling into the putrid waters of the sewers.

"You don't need to fear us. Our only intent is to help." said Anna.

"We are making our way to the Quarantine zone. The army will help us then, keep it safe. If you come with us, they will certainly welcome you as well."

Tierman stared at Casper. That boy was really hard to read. Back then, in the top of the building he agreed without a second tough to leave that whole family to die, in order to escape. He agreed to use other people's lives that were in no way more or less important than theirs, in a calculistic and cold manner. But now, he was smiling, and cautiously trying to earn Beverly's trust. Instead of being rational he was being emotional. Wether he was shaken from the surprise encounter, and how she was scared, or wether he simply could not take another harsh decision was beyond him. But one thing was certain, and Tierman knew it already. Casper was unpredictable. Despite his intelligence, that got them all alive so far, his unprectability could cause great harm to the group.

"Would you... let me go with you?" Beverly asked to the group, anxiously waiting for a positive response.

"Of course." said Casper.

Anna noticed that Beverly was shaking and had a gun in her hand. She asked calmly for Beverly to hand it over to her, and so she did. She promised to give it back as soon as Beverly was calmer.

Casper turned around to the group. "Alright guys, we have a new member. But she is unable to do anything right now. We keep the same plan. Erik, you go up front. Anna, you stay in the middle with me. And you David, cover our flank."

Everyone agreed and went to their posts, and started walking again. In an hour, they were at the manhole to the surface.

"Nothing so far..." said Erik, with his machete in hand. "I'll go up first, se if it's all clear."

Casper and the rest nodded. Erik sheated his blade and climbed the ladder. As soon as he reached for the surface an infected jumped on him, screaming like a maniac. Erik sidestepped, dodgind the infected. He immediately recomposed himself, unsheating his machete. As the infected came for him again, he sidestepped once more, and witha precise slice, he cut it's head off. The body fall to the ground, a blood pool forming just as fast as the life drained from that body.

He then turned around rapidly to make sure one of them would surprise him again. But there was nothing. He went back to the manhole, and signalized for them to come up. One by one, they made their way uptop.

Casper had saw what Erik could do. Out of everyone in the group it was clear he was the best at survival tactics and close-quarter combat. He smiled as he saw the decapitated body on the ground. But his smile soon turned into sadness as he remembered it once used to be human.

Erik came closer to it examining its body. "It seems he was infected trough a bite on his left arm." he said pointing at it. "It also seems that he tried to chop it off, but the pain was to much, and he inevitably turned. He could just had killed himself but... He probably didn't had the necessary strenght..." He turned his eyes to Casper. "Don't be sad. These things are not human anymore. And if the person is still inside, you are doing it a favor."

Casper remained there for a few more seconds staring at the bite mark. He then got up nodding positively and turned to the group. "All right, let's go."

They walked for half an hour torwards the designated QZ. It was really easy to navigate to the destination, as countless plaques all around pointed to it, or even improvised grafitti on the walls. However it was all just to easy.

"No infected... That's odd." said Tierman.

As they walked, Erik suddenly stopped, pointing his machete to his left. "That's probably the answer."

A dead body. No. In fact, as soon as they all noticed that single body a putrified smell invaded their senses, making the more sensitive ones of the group almost vomit. There were bodies all around. They were just so intent into reaching the QZ, and into listening to any sound, that they forgot to look around them.

Erik went closer examining the dead body. "All shots to the head or vital organs. It seems the military is keeping the surrounding areas clear to make sure a giant horde does not attack them head on."

After closer examination that showed the same results they all once again, resumed their march to their so sought after heaven.

As the journey went more and more, and they all got even more tired, Casper noticed how Erik went in the front, scanning the area for any of those things the military may have missed. He went closer to him until he was at his side. Erik stared at him.

"What?" he asked.

"Nothing. I just wanted to thank you for anything you've done for us." Casper stopped smiling a bit. "It's just nice to know there is someone I can count on."

Erik muffled before turning to Casper again. "Buddy listen. We're no friends, and I've done nothing for you or any of the group. I merely cooperated to make sure I could survive. And I'll keep it that way as long as it needs. After that, we part ways."

Casper smile dissapeared and his calculistic and emotionless side could be seen deep in his eyes. Erik himself was surprised in the quick change of personalities and behavior. Casper simply slowed his pace down, gathering with the rest of the group.

They kept walking until they saw a metal fence, covered with some sort of black cloth. "That is the improvised QZ." said Erik.

As they went closer a light turned on blinding them all. All they could do was hear a grave voice demanding them to drop their weapons. As soon as their vision adjusted they could see armed soldiers aiming at them. They were all aiming for their heads, the safety of the gun out.

"Hey listen..." said Erik, but he was quickly interrupted by a soldier, as he tried to get closer.

"If you walk a single centimeter, I'll put a bullet in your head." said the soldier.

The group remained silent in fear, and the soldiers remained in their posts aiming at them. Casper however, broke thr silence.

"Listen, we just came from hell. We deserve some peace after all this. Just let us in!" he pleaded.

"No can do. I am sorry."

"What!!?" shouted David.

"We are not accepting new refugees at the time. Turn back now and go back to where you came."

"Are you nuts!!?" he screamed. "There is no turning back. The place from where we came is no more!!"

"We can't allow you to jeopardize the safety of the quarantine and the citizens within. If you try, we will kill you before you succed." said the soldier in a cold and monotone voice.

"What the--" he said, but being quickly interupted by Anna.

"You're the military!! You're supposed to save us!!" she screamed clearly panicking.

The soldiers remained silent. A few of them looked at one another. But nothing changed.

"We are not infected. We can assure you of it." said Casper.

"You are not bitten, you mean. But we know very little of this parasite. From what we know, bites are only one way to get infected. Therefore, trough order of our superiors, and to protect the ones that are completely safe and clean, we cannot let you inside."

"You are letting me inside now!!!" said David screaming and walking torwards them.

"If you cross this light in the ground we will fire at will!!! Stay back!" said one of the soldiers.

"David stop!!!" screamed Erik as he reached for him holding him up. Casper came to help, as Beverly and Anna stayed behind not sure of what was going on, and Tierman simply watched the scene unfold with his arms crossed.

"We are citizens of America!!! We have rights!!" screamed David, as tears rolled trough his face, his irrational fear taking control over his body.

The soldiers started giving orders for everyone to step back, while Casper and Erik tried to calm David down but to no avail. Voices could be heard from both sides as chaos spread, panicking everyone.

"David stop!! Think for once!!" said both Erik and Casper in a desperate attempt to not get dragged down with David to the enormous hole he was digging for all of them.

"Step back or we will shoot to kill!! That is an order!!" the soldiers said, the voices of both the groups, the military, and the survivors mixing in a horrifying tone of melancholy and desperation.

As much as Casper and Erik tried, they couldn't calm David down. He broke free, being stronger than both of them, pushing Erik to the side, and punching Casper on his face, which made him fall to the ground. He ran desperately for the fence.

"Let me in!!! LET ME IN!!!"

The soldiers readied their weapons. "FIRE!!!"

Countless shots were fired at David's body and head, blood splattering all over the ground, as both Erik watched the scene in shock and Casper'sd eyes widened as he cleaned the blood from his mouth. Beverly was shaking again, and Anna screamed in desperation as Tierman simply watched it all, unfazed.

As soon as his body fell to the ground, it's sound echoing trough the aream silence swept in. All their journey, all their attempts of saving themselves were in vain. After all the military wasn't their savior. At least, not anymore.

"Shit! Shit, Holy Shit!" Erik yelled. He'd ducked instinctively as soon as the shots were fired. Casper was still on the ground staring at Davids body, Anna hard started screaming and the other two were going into shock, well With Tierman you never know but it was a bad scene all around. Erik reached down and grabbed Casper by the back of the shirt and started hauling him back until he stumbled to his feet. He still looked to be in a daze after that though, the effect of having someone shot right in front of your eyes, a man you'd called friend could do that.

"Let's GO! We're leaving, we gotta go NOW!" Tierman heard yelling but was still staring at Davids corpse, it had been a damned fool thing to do. Turning he gathered Anna and Beverly and started going after Erik, pushing one in front of him and pulling one behind until everyone's natural instincts, momentum, and herd behaviour kicked in

Casper stumbled on still a little dazed at the whole situation. It was partially the death of David and partially the jarring way with which is plan for the group to get to safety had ended. He had war gamed out so many different scenarios, but never in his wildest imaginations had he though that the Military themselves could be the ones to stop them reaching safety. He was vaguely aware that Erik was talking to him, telling him they needed a new plan. The others looked to him. But right now he needed to reprocess, to start from square one and figure them out a way to beat this turn of events. "Find us a safe place" He mumbled.

Erik couldn't believe it. That was all the direction they were going to get? "Tierman, I need you buddy, you gotta keep these guys going, we're going to push out towards a suburb and clear us out a house. I'm going to push ahead and clear the way. Keep moving, don't stop for anything." He handed him his axe. "Good luck."

It was a slog, They tried to keep moving, sometimes creeping, sometimes running, sometimes fighting desperately. Every now and again, Erik would come back, covered in blood and gore, to point them around an obstacle or gathering of infected that was cropping up. Finally, red eyed and much the worse for wear, the tired group limped into a house in a suburban neighborhood. Most of them falling dead asleep wherever they could find a comfortable place.

Erik wound up sitting quietly in the kitchen, drinking from his flask of whiskey. If the others had been awake, as Casper had, they might have heard him singing quietly to himself as he drank.

"So fill to me, the parting glass, and drink a health whate'er befalls. And gently rise and softly call, good night and joy be with you all."

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

I am sorry for my absence, I had a test back at my university. My post will be up in a few hours, a day at tops.

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

I was just like minutes away to asking where everyone had went. We could have Casper and Tierman engage in a conversation, but I believe that it would be better to do it moments before they leave the house for a safer place (which will eventually happen). It's your turn now, so if you want to wait for someone to put their character forward to work with you, it's fine, but if it takes to long, I advise you to make a normal post, probably about what Tierman is thinking right now, or in conversation with an NPC, which is only Anna in the moment.

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

Well, my character is up for development. Anyone wants to discuss a conversation and interaction between our characters, can just message me. Or even say so over here, if it is no problem.

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

My character and Casper would probably get along somewhat, I don't know if they could be friends they're maybe too different for that. But I feel like they'd have a mutual respect, one survivor to another, one leader to another. Casper is the brains of the group, I feel like he makes a plan and then Eric leads the others in getting it done. They're different in a lot of ways Casper is Methodical, Organized, plans ahead. Eric is very intuitive and will improvise with no hesitation, but doesn't always plan ahead. Eric can be vicious when he has to be and has kind of tossed the rule book out the window which makes him dangerous in a way that I feel like Casper isnt.

Eric and Tierman both have cynical attitudes but I feel like that makes a poor bonding point, however they both share a common commitment to survival and getting things done and ignoring hardships. I feel like they're kind of the muscle that keeps the group going forward.

As for Anna and Beverly I'm not sure but I'm open to seeing where it goes.

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

Alright. Since now they are in the suburbs, and they are safer than before, I think they will need some downtime, especially considering how bad everything went. So I think it's safe to say that now is the best time for us to make some character development.

What I mean is, let's decide now which character wil talk and interact which each character. So this way, we can develop our characters relationship which each other. So let's decide which character will interact with which, and once decided, the two owners of each character get's to decide how their conversation and interaction will go. This way we can develop our characters to build friendship with one another, or even hatred and antagonism.

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

Just put up my post. Also feel free to go back to times I've already written and backfill them with a characters view point if you feel I haven't adequately fleshed it out.

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

I've just posted. I am truly sorry it took so long. Next turn is Legate's. As for the lore that I promissed to tell you here it is.

First of all the Infected. They are not zombies in the sense of dead corpses reanimated that walk around trying to eat people. They are living beings, infected by a fungus called Ophiocordyceps Unilateralis. It generally only affects insects and some arthropods, but a new strain appeared with the ability to target humans as hosts. These fungus enter in their hosts bodies trough the bite of an already infected individual, trough the comsumption of contaminated food and even trough air (altough it's restricted to closed and heavy-air spaces. So as long as you're out in the open, it's fine.) It travles trough the human circulatory system until it reaches the lymbic region of the brain, attaching to it and taking control over it's hosts bodies. The host still has awareneess of his surroundings, can still feel pain, sadness and anything of the like. But they can't control their body, or even speak.

So as mentioned they are living beings, so no headshots-only are required to kill them. They can die from blood loss, dehydration and starvation. A shot in the heart or any other vital organ will kill then, just like a normal human. Which is why they feed on their victims corpses, wether it be a human, or any kind of animal. They also eat the bodies of their own dead, but only after they die from one reason or another, as they never attack another of them. The reason why there are giant hordes, is because it's been only three months since it started, and the outbreak just recently hit Boston. Otyher areas hit from te beginning are bound to have less of them, and fewer as time pases by.

The Infected are divided into: Runners, Stalkers, Clickers, Bloater's and Spore cadavers. Each one of them have different behaviour and ways to be dealt with, according to the stage the infection has spread in their own body.

Runners are the basic zombie. It runs, make noises, attempts to bite you and hurt you in any way possible. Most of the time, if you hear one, it means more are nearby. They have poor eyesight, as the funguns inside their brain pushed their ocular spheres, and their hearing is normal. They are also just as strong as a healthy human, depending as well in the physical capability of the host. They are the easier to be dealt with, but in a mob they are quite dangerous. Sometimes, when dormant, you cannsee the host trying to fight off it's influence, and sometimes, even if you pass in front of it, the runner will not attack.

Stalkers are the "evolution" of the runner. The fungus now appears a bit from out of their head, and sometimes even trough one eye. They walk around mubling but as soon as they manage to see a prey, instead of just chargin at them head on, they run and hide, waiting for the best opportunity to attack. When they do it will most likely be fatal if the person they are after isn't paying attention. Their hearing is better than that of a runner due to their even more horrible vision. They still try to fight off the influence, but to no avail.

Clickers are the evolution of the stalker. In this stagem, any semblance of the human that was once inside that body is gone. They are still living beings, but noe the fungus has taken control over it's entire brain, not just the lymbic regions. They no longer fight against the fungus influence. The clickers are stronger than any of it's past stages, due to the amount of adrenaline, and in the case of males, testosterone, that the fungus makes it's hosts brain release, making then able to hold even a strong adult with ease, and withstand more than a single shot, even in the head or vital organs, even if they are to die later due to blood loss. However in the downside, they are completely blind, as the fungus completely destroyed their eyes. However in order to still be able to catch their prey they evolved to have a bat-like vision, which they use by a clicking sound, giving then their names. Everytime they click, any sound, even from far away can be heard, and they will go after it. They can be blind, but they will pay attention to sounds that stalkers and runners wouldn't even notice. They are slower, and when they sense you, they will come at you, waving their arms like if they were in some kind of macabre dance. If they catch you, and you have no one watching your back, you are dead, you can't escape them.

Then we have the bloaters. Bloaters survived for so long that the fungus now reaches for their entire body, covering it in a sort of organic armor, that makes then even more resistent and strong. They are also blind, and use the same method to hear and kill their prey. But they are stronger, more resistant and bigger. They can also take parts of the fungus on then and throw it at their preys. When it touched the ground, it explodes and a shroud of spores is themreleased in the air, and anyone that breathes it, becomes infected. In the game, they made so that you lose health overtime, probably due to difficulty issues as it would be a distant, one hit kill. But in the lore it is stated that if you breath, you are infected. They are also bulkier and easier to avoid or outrun, but very dangerous in closed spaces with little to no room for maneuvers.

Then finally we have the spore cadavers. Any infected that is about to die, is commanded to search for a dark and humid place, indoors. It will then just sit there and die. Once it dies, it turns into a breeding ground for the fungus where it replicates to insane amounts, coverging even the ground, walls and ceiling, apart from the body. These fungus will then start releasing spores, contaminating the indoor and stagnated air. Anyone that breathes this fog of spores will get infected, so in order to traverse these spaces a gasmask is required. Runners to bloaters, if they die, will become a spore cadaver. However if an infected is killed by a person, it will only turn into one if the place they were killed is ideal for the dispersal of the spores.

It takes an average of 3-5 months tor a runner to become a stalker. 1 Year to become a clicker and 5 years to become a bloater. So clickers and bloaters are rare. In the moment of the story it's been only 3 months, but Boston just recently got hit, so there are only runners in Boston and in great quantity. Other areas that were first hit, back in the first weeks, are bound to have a few stalkers, but they are really rare. After an year passes clickers start to show, and in 5 year, Bloaters. Spore cadavers, any stage of infected that dies from any cause in the required places.

As for the society in itself, it's not lke most of the zombie genre where the military completely failed, and the people are left to their own. The military managed to create QZ's and save the minority of the population (around 30-25%) and inside the QZ there are still rules and society still works, even if under martial law. However, unnatended parts of the country becomes your classic zombie movie. Survivors kiling eachother for whatever they have while evading the danger of the "zombies".

However as time passes by, riots start breaking out in most QZ's, which ends up destroying then. A rebel group that is later formed called the fireflies are made to continue the search for a cure, and the military opposes them, seeing then as anarchists, as despite their noble goals, they are the ones that entices the riots to destroy the military and bring "freedom" back to society.

On fallen QZ's group of people form groups called hunters, where they kill anyone that enters in their perimeter, loot anything they have, and burn their corpses. They usually call those poeple "tourists" and they are highly aggressive.

That is all there is to know. I don't know if I've been clear enough, but that's most of the lore that is important. There is the wiki for TLOU you can check as well, for more information.

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

No problem Legale, I'll introduce it to you later. Right now I don't have the time, and I can't even finish my post due to a circunstance I couldn't predict. I'll be back tuesday. :)

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

Not gonna lie I don't know any of the LOU lore either, never played the game etc. I just love me a good old fashioned zombie roleplay. But yeah if someone who knows introduces the lore I'll for sure follow along with it but I personally don't know any

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

There is no reason to be sorry youth. You did nothing wrong, you simply didn't knew about it. :)

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

oh geez im so sorry! i will defintely remember that for my later posts!! :)

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

Nice post youth, I really enjoyed reading it! It was fluid, and really enetertaining, It hooked me to the last line to know how she would meet them.

However there's just a few things to note. Nothing about your post, but about the lore of TLOU.

The infected aren't undead. They are living human beings infected by a fungus that infects people trough the bite of already infected individual or trough spores in the air in closed spaces. This spore travels to the brain of the host and takes control of their body by attaching itself on the lymbic system of the brain. So they are al living beings, body shots can kill then just as a headshot, they still bleed, starve and dehydrate.

The body that the mob was eating was the body of one of the infected that were killed by both Erik and Tierman. In the game there are no proofs that infected don't eat the bodies of their own dead, and it is quite a rational way for them to keep living so long, even in areas uninhabited for years.

Also, just to make sure everyone is tuned, there are only stage 1 infected for now, since it's only been three months. A couple stalkers (stage 2) may appear, but they are very rare. If I'm right, and please correct me if I'm not, clickers will only appear after an year and bloaters from 2 to 3 years.
I'll get working on my post now. :)

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

Great post Koleu! I really enjoyed the narrative. It was fast and agile, but also solid and detailed.

Now it's your turn youth. You can make a post introducing your character and meeting the party. Just don't make then reach the quarantine zone yet.

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

A great post. You'll get used to this style pretty soon. :)

Just gotta wait for Koleu now.

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

mmk, I'll give it a try

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

I honestly enjoy the way Kojovs wrote his post. Probably because every RP I've ever been in we RP'd like that. I honestly think it's more fun. If we only play our own characters dialogue, just like Kojovs already stated on the rules section, the story will get a thousand replies and go nowhere. Besides he also instated in the rules section that we were supposed to write it as we should write a book. That means big pages of text in were we use each other's characters.

I remember seeing once a Bleach RP on fanpop. I guess it's name was resurgence, if I'm not wrong. They write everything just like Kojovs written. And the story is marvelous for a fanfic, it could even be a book if the creator of the manga wanted to. That's just how good the story is. I'll send you the link so you can see what I'm talking about.

http://www.fanpop.com/clubs/bleach-anim ... e#comments

I suggest you to start in the second page to read how their posts are made. And if I'm not wrong, they're quite popular RP's over there.

And evetytime there is some sort of huge event in wich characters will die and such, or even be serverely modified for the sake of the RP they all talk so everyone can have a sense of where each people wants their character to stand. It's really cool.

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

Honestly I'm not sure how I feel about the structure. I don't particularly feel comfortable with writing other peoples characters nor am I particularly comfortable with other people writing mine. While I do think that it's a god idea to have NPC's we can do that with I think maybe we should only play our own characters dialogue. I'm ok with people taking actions with each others characters as long as it doesn't fundamentally effect the character somehow though. I'm going to try and do that for the next post so you'll see what I mean.

Re: The Last of Us - Outbreak

I just finished the first post. And I would like to take the opportunity and talk about how it will work.

Next will be Legate's turn to post. The NPC's i posted with it are not that important, they are just to add that death that is needed in an apocalyptic scenario. So you can deal with them as you see fit. Kill the both, only one of them, or let them live, you decide. :)

Then it's Koleu's turn. And then EscapingYouth can make a post introducing her character to the group, as unfortunately, the first post is already out.

If I didn't portrayed Erik or Tierman very well, you can always tell me, and I'll change it to the best of my abilities to suit how you want them to act. Also remember that Casper is the thinker of the group, meaning he always traces the plans, but is not a good fighter, so he will need someone to watch his back.

That's all. I'll be waiting for your post Legate. :)
