Personality
Hektor's upbringing left him with a personality much like his father, Agamemnon's. However, subtle differences set them apart, most likely inherited from his mother the Messiah Queen Andromeda. Brought up by his austere and authoritarian father, Hektor learned from an early age that honour and duty were above all else in a man's life. Standing up for what was right, and holding by your word regardless of the consequences was beaten into him over many lessons. Even as a boy Hektor adhered to these principles, defending weaker children in the fights he got into, and accepting the consequences of his actions in the beatings his father gave him afterwards.

Taken away from the comforts of the palace at a young age, Hektor is used to a simple lifestyle, never taking more than he needs. Though he harbours some resentment towards his father for his difficult upbringing, he has come to understand the reasoning behind it. He shares his father's disdain for luxury, looking down on those nobles who revel in it whilst others starve. He feels uncomfortable at court amidst all the finery, especially since, like his father, he cannot get his head round the finer points of court politics. His simple world view is black and white, and the solution to having an enemy is to kill them.

The main way Hektor differs from his father is emotionally. Whilst his father is sealed off to any show of emotion, Hektor, though inexperienced and inept with much of it, is far more open to his emotions. He laughs with his men, and delves into tales of knights and heroes, and even a small book about his father. Unsure around women, he finds them fascinating, having been cut off from them during his childhood. With his royal siblings he is unsure of how to act. Usually he is simply clumsy and embarassed, often seeking excuses to leave quickly to save face. Most notably, Hektor has a deep sympathy for slaves. Though bound by his duties to serve, he hates to see people treated like objects, their honour forcibly removed. He does what he can, but in his world he must keep his thoughts to himself.

Moral Alignment
Lawful Good

Motivation
Hektor is motivated by a desire to win his father's respect, and to surpass him when he can.

Fears
He fears disappointing his father most of all. After all of the hard work and pain he has gone through to prove himself, he is terrified of falling at the last hurdle. As much as he competes with the old man, he longs for his praise and adulation.
Aule, obviously. Though his mother is the conduit for the 'merciful' god, Hektor has horrible inklings of the true nature of Aule, possibly lingering from his connection to his mother.
Paradoxically, Hektor also fears his mother. He fears what she may become and where her power will take her. He sees her hold over people and cannot help but think where things will go.

Likes
Hektor loves being around other soldiers. Their easy camaraderie and simple lifestyles speak to Hektor on a basic level that he has known since childhood and his father's tuition.
Respect, and being respected are big likes in Hektor's mind.
Arguably his greatest love is his father's approval. On the few occasions his father allowed his stoic mask to slip to praise his son, Hektor could not have dreamed of being happier. Now he strives to feel that again. Strangely enough one of his other likes is beating his father at anything, though he is yet to win a duel against him.
Though tone deaf, Hektor enjoys singing, though mainly after a few drinks with his men.
Training and fighting are his main enjoyments in life. The 'battlesong' he calls it.

Dislikes
Traitors and cowards hold the pinnacle of Hektor's disdain, as well as those who kill without reason. He cannot think of anything worse than someone who would cast aside their honour.
Like his father, he hates politicians. The backroom games they play for power and wealth stink to any honourable man, and Hektor is no different.
From experiences he had as a child, Hektor is pained by the existence of slavery. He hates to see people demeaned in such a manner.

Strengths
Youth is one of Hektor's main strong points. He is quick, lithe and resolute, not to mention eager to make his mark on the world.
Hektor is determined to surpass his father, which means that he will fight all the harder, and move all the quicker to win glory everlasting.
As a son of the Queen Hektor possesses royal connections. Though he would never use them to get something he can get for himself, it never hurts to remind people that he is destined for greatness.
His sense of honour and duty also works well for Hektor. He is very much the princely character.

Weaknesses
Hektor's main weakness is his youth. He is inexperienced compared to his elders, and, thanks to his upbringing, somewhat emotionally naive.
Like his father, Hektor is quick to anger, and perceives any slight as an attack on his honour.

Is your character literate? In what languages?
Hektor is literate in the common tongue, as educated by his father.

Bio/History

Hektor was born 'in the purple', as they say. Son to the Messiah Queen, Andromeda Diocles, and the commander of her armies, Agamemnon Komnenos, Hektor came into the world with a vaulted bloodline and one hell of a reputation to uphold. Whilst still a baby, he was ceremonially presented to his father to raise. The man, seething with self-hatred over the show of weakness that resulted in the boy, unwillingly received Hektor to the titters and jokes of the nobles present. As quickly as possible, Agamemnon deposited Hektor with the family of one of his captains, the mother having recently given birth herself. It was there Hektor stayed for the first two years of his life. A simple household, but more of a family than his father had known. The captain was a large and jolly man, prone to chase his many children around the small house they occupied, and read to them in the evenings he wasn't away with the army. A striking child, even at this age, Hektor quickly advanced, walking and talking within his first year. He made life hell for the captain's eldest daughter, who was often tasked with watching him. Any high surface, or place he shouldn't go, Hektor went. Many bumps, scrapes and bruises were the result of his adventures, that and the tortured expressions of the captain and his wife, fraught with worry. However, this was all to change when Hektor's father returned to collect the boy.

Agamemnon returned a different man from before. The anger and shame had sunk beneath a hard, stoic surface. The man that appeared to take Hektor into his care was devoid of apparent weakness and emotion. With some trepidation, and with tearful farewells from the captain's family, Hektor went with his father. He took the large, gloved hand offered to him and walked quickly to keep up with the long strides his father took. Introduced to their spartan home, Hektor was immediately cast into the world of honour, duty, and military glory. His father personally took up his training, martialling his long experience of battle and soldiering to instruct Hektor in everything he might need to know. Most importantly, he drilled into his son the importance of honour. Without honour, a man is worth nothing. He is worse than nothing. Enthralled by tales of glorious and honourable deeds, Hektor, though still reeling from the changes in his life, drank up the principles like water. On his seventh birthday, his father took him into their garden, a bare patch of beaten earth with some practice stumps, and gave him a weighted wooden sword. At first Hektor struggled to even lift it, much less learn the complicated strokes and defences his father was trying to drill into him. However, over time Hektor eased into the use of the sword, sparring daily with his father for long, painful hours in the yard. Sometimes his father would bring the other officers' boys to train too. In one of these sessions, Hektor broke the arm of one of the boys when he dropped his sword. Immediately Agamemnon had swooped in, thrashing Hektor hard. There is no honour in attacking an opponent who can't fight back. That day, Hektor earned his first scars.

Over the years, Hektor trained both his mind and his body hard. Hours spent in the practice yard were matched by hours spent with books. His father taught him how to read and his sharp mind picked everything up fast. He thirsted for more knowledge and soon read all of the few books his father owned. Borrowing from the captains Hektor read tale after tale, as well as some books on magic, but those he kept secret. His training well progressed, Hektor was taken on infrequent visits to court with his father. Oftentimes he would end up with his half-siblings. Their fine dress and luxurious pampering repulsed him, and though he wished he could become close to them, the differences were too great. Whenever it seemed like they would begin bonding, his father would storm in and drag him away. Back home, back to training. At thirteen Hektor first enlisted in his father's regiment. Known as 'The Phoenixes', every man had died, or was expected to die, in the line of duty. They had been imbued with the power of Aule, and rose again and again to destroy the enemies of the Queen. Alongside these hardened warriors, Hektor trained. The number of bruises on his body, bloody noses, chipped teeth and broken bones increased with the level of his training. But he learned fast. Soon he was laughing and, when his father was elsewhere, drinking alongside these hardened veterans. Though he was yet to serve in action, they treated him as one of their own, nicknaming him 'the pup', a jibe at the name traitors gave to his father, 'the Queen's Dog'.

On his sixteenth birthday, Hektor stood proud. His body was honed by years of combat training, his mind by the books her had poured over in his spare time. Now he was a man. The celebration was lavish. The Queen held nothing back at welcoming her son into his prime. Gold and red banners flew from every part of the palace. Minstrels and fine foods were scattered everywhere throughout the capitol. Men and women praised the honourable prince, and none more so than his father. In private, Agamemnon pulled Hektor into his arms and told him how proud he was. Hektor was everything he could have hoped he could be, and more. To commemorate his coming of age, Agamemnon gave Hektor his signet ring, bound with the symbol of a hammer. Hektor clasped it close to his chest, and both men, though conditioned to hold back emotion, could barely hold back the tears after long years of hardship. In a lavish ceremony, the Queen knighted Hektor, and presented him with a drake. The lizard had black scales, and watched him closely with intelligent eyes. The rest of the celebration lasted three days. During this time Hektor, despite all the lessons from his father, got drunk, got in more than a couple of fights, and was slapped by a couple of women, though that may have been more to do with the fact he had never really been around one before. A man at last, Hektor returned to the Phoenixes with a new pride, and a strong desire to win glory for himself.

Image

The opportunity fast arose. Marching under one of the Phoenix captains, Hektor and the rest of the company was tasked with hunting down a band of rebel slaves near Nydeocia. Fast locating the group, Hektor saw the majority of them were gladiators, fierce fighters given no option but to fight to the death in the pits. Behind the gladiators were some other men, with women and children, all panicking at the sight of the soldiers. Given the order to advance, Hektor and the others advanced on the gladiators, who, with howls of rage, plowed into the orderly line. Limbs and blood soared into the air as the veterans grappled with the gladiators. Hektor found himself facing a giant with a horrific looking axe. Ducking the giant's first swing and slammed his shield into its stomach. Seizing his opportunity Hektor rolled behind the giant and quickly cut his hamstrings in a vicious slice. The skirmish was over quickly and the rest of the slaves rounded up. Hektor watched the other soldiers kicking the slaves into line, beating them mercilessly. Shame washed over him. Was this the honour his father had taught him about? Was degrading these poor people in any way justified? Seeing one of the soldiers about to slit the throat of a screaming woman, Hektor threw himself between them. The glare he gave silenced any opposition, and the slaves were quickly returned to Nydeocia. Since then Hektor, fought many times, often beside his father.

Now Hektor strives for independence from his father, to lead his own commands, to win his own glory, and to right the many wrongs his honour will not permit him to allow. His open heart yearns for adventure, physical and emotional. But something lurks beneath the surface, something he feels is wrong with his mother. Time will tell, but Hektor will not simply wait to be swept up by fate, he will carve his own destiny.

So begins...
