A Brother Awakened

Grove of AuroraSetting: Grove of Aurora

The statue slowly slid away from its fittings, grating against its stone base. Slowly, very slowly, it opened. Not for lack of trying. Not for lack of caring. However, the man wasn't in a rush. He could feel the air against his dead flesh. He could feel the subtle light of twilight reflecting in his eyes. He was awake, for the first time in centuries, Frederic was awake. And it was glorious.

His robe mostly open to the world, his inhibitions abandoned, it was like being born again. And he wasn't even hungry. Yet. He was sure that the years of suppressing the hunger would catch up to him soon enough. "Ahh...yes...This is the world I left...and I the world to which I returned." Finally free of the grave, he admired himself. Tall? Check. Hair? A little shaggy, but he would fix that soon enough. Eyes...well, he needed a mirr-oh wait, nevermind. His body was in good shape. He could smell his kin near by. Perfect. He could use a conversation to stretch his long, neglected jaw muscles. And tongue. And cheeks. Yes. Talking would be good. His robe swayed in the breeze as he waited, leaned against his 'grave'. "Ladeedeeda~~."
"Ladeedadeeda, indeed," Ten soldiers armed to the tooth in black hard leather and silver marched into the small clearing from all angles of the grove. Casren himself pushed past two that were unfortunate enough to have stood in his way. They were protecting him, he was certain, which made him all the more annoyed.

"Where have you been?"
"Sleeping. Right down there. Didn't even bother to look for me, eh, brother? Disappointing. Very, very disappointing. That my own brother would just abandon me!" He feigned, well, feinting, before dissolving into giggles and chuckles and all kinds of laughs. Shaking his head as he slowly pulled himself from the dirt.

"What is with the soldiers, dear brother? Am I not trusted, dear brother? I've only been asleep, dear breather." Another hearty laugh, this one with a darker inclination. "Where is our sire? Why have I been awakened?"
"Abandon!" Casren feigned shock, a hand falling to his heart in sheer mockery. He snorted, then looked around the the guards. His expression slipped from humor to mild annoyance.

"What can I say, old friend. I'm important now! The threat lies not in you," Casren smiled winking at his brethren. "Our sire is mucking things up, as per usual. Playing the part of the ass!" It was Casren's turn to laugh exuberantly.

"I know not why you were awakened," he sagely shook his head, "But your timing is impeccable. I'm a Very Important Person in a large Supernatural Organization here, in this time and place. Technically," He quipped, "Two times!"
"OH! May the Lord have mercy on us all. Get it? Hah. Like that bastard would ever be kind to us or our kin." He couldn't help but chuckle again at his brother's matched reaction.

"So...why do you say that my timing is impeccable. I mean, I know that I always am. I know that whenever I'm around, things get better. The charm of being your little brother is that I'm the favorite, right?" Frederic mocked right back at him.

A sigh, a scratch of his chin, a yawn. "Hmmm...Hmmmhmmmhmmm...Do you need something from me? Is that why I was woken up? Hmmm?"
"The favorite," Casren grinned, "Yes. It also means I must baby sit you, little brother." He bat the air before him, hiding the smile that had grown despite his brethren's prodding.

"Perhaps I need you, perhaps I don't. Do you want to be important, too?" Casren gestured at the guards, who shifted nervously. They didn't like being pointed out, they were supposed to be in the shadows.

"Still like politics?"
"If they are still like they used to be. Grease hands. Shake others. Bite others. Fear, love, and money. Thats all there is to it." He hopped to his feet and stood in his brothers face, laughing. "Yes, of course I still love politics, your insistently chatty, old, decrepit, old, annoying, old fart." Normally, he was calm. But he'd been asleep for so long.

And he was a tad bit peckish.
"That's all they'll ever be," Casren couldn't help but grin still. Damn his little brother!

"Fart? Me? You're the one who smells of one," Casren pointed out, smirking and sauntering in a circle. "I simply reek of undeath."
"...Hate to admit it. But you're right. I do smell a tad...off putting." He couldn't help but laugh. "Anyway, mister important man. Show me to this land and power you claim to possess, and I'll take a look. And a bathe. And preferably a bite to eat or two. If you would. Let us, let us, let us gooooo~." Frederic all but sang as he leaped over his brother's head, twirled, and strolled towards the nearest source of fresh blood he could smell.

Of course, he had no idea where he was going.
"You're standing on it," Casren proclaimed, then marched off into the woods. The guards hurried to surround the quick moving vampire as he made off for the Forbidden Thick.

"Follow me, dear brethren!" Casren called back through the brambles of the Grove of Aurora.
He corrected his course as soon as he could, yawning while he did so, all the while shooting a glare in the direction of the guards. "Stand back from me, vermin." Was all he would say before returning to all laughs and smiles, almost skipping to catch up. "Politics are so much fun, brother. I am glad you're cutting me in on this."
