A meteor streaked across the clear blue sky; a raging ball of flame and smoke accompanied by a cacophonous roar. It landed with a thunderous boom in The Ruins, toppling many of the aged and crumbling walls. A crater formed in the earth where the meteor landed. It was several feet deep and filled with smoke.
When the smoke began to clear, a look inside of the crater revealed that it was not a meteor that had struck the ground. It was a person; a female by the looks of it.
And she was alive.
Dhaelhel's wings were broken and torn. Most of her white feathers had burned away into ash. Soot coated her pale skin and her blond hair had turned black. She coughed to clear her lungs as she attempted to lift herself from the ruin of the earth. The woman was weak and blood seeped from multiple small wounds on her arms, legs, and back.
Dhaelhel collapsed back onto the earth and laid her cheek on the rubble. There was so much pain. It hurt. She had never felt it before.
