Alyssum is a quite, kind beauty. She thinks of others before herself, and always seems to have a small smile on her face. She has a certain way about her that can bring anyone in the room to a calm silence. But when she gets brought to a deep sadness, she must be left alone to cope with it herself. She does not like sharing her secrets, mainly because she doesn't truly know all of them herself. She has been deemed “odd”, and “strange”, but she tries to not let these words get to her. The one time they did, half of her hometown was almost destroyed. She regrets doing such a thing. She’s a truly caring girl though, and will do anything for her friends.

Alyssum isn’t really happy with sharing her past with others. Her mother ignored her, and she didn’t know who her father was (only that he too, was a Telepath). Her mother was ashamed to have had a child who was “different”, and spared no mercy in telling her daughter this anytime that it came up. Alyssum didn’t even bother reading her; she didn’t need to, to know that it was true.
Her mother didn’t abuse her, but she didn’t really love her. So Alyssum spent a lot of time with her next door neighbor; an elderly man by the name of Simon Crims. He was the one who told her about Babylon School. His brother had attended there as well.
Alyssum made the decision that she, too, would attend the school that was geared towards people like her.
When she found out that she was accepted, she was overjoyed. She had never really made any friends, so she didn’t feel bad for leaving.
When she was in the process of packing, her mother walked into the room and announced, “Finally. I’m going to have a normal life…”
She just shrugged at her mother. “You enjoy your normal life. I’ll enjoy my extraordinary one.”
And with that, she was off to Babylon.
