Description

Features:

Annabelle has waist-length, shimmery, dark bronze hair. She has never been to a hairdresser so it is long and thick. It is also slightly matted because she can only comb it with her fingers.
She has a slender frame that is marred with tiny scars. Her most recent one is a semi-circle on the tip of her thumb that came from a large piece of bark splintering in her hands.
She has deep hazel eyes that draw you in, but show no emotion.
Her mouth is small and drawn tight because she has never used it.
Her nose is medium-sized and is slightly rounded at the tip.
Her skin is slightly pale from the little sun exposure, and from living in the darkness most of her life. [NOTE: She is not a vampire! She is human!]

Clothing:

She wears a dark green, hole-ridden scarf. The tears come from the ends getting snagged on tree branches. The scarf accentuates her eyes.
She wears a thin brown leather jacket that covers her shoulders.
Underneath she wears a light brown dress the color of a newborn fawn's coat. It is slightly torn at the bottom from getting caught in the snarled undergrowth.
She wears dark brown lace-up boots, the soles caked in mud.

Personality

Annabelle is witty and charming, but does not understand anything about the world because she has been deaf since birth. She studies people's actions to gain knowledge about life.
Her wit and charm only appear in her thoughts.
She is lonely and does not understand much about human interaction.
She is not sure what she lives for. She knows that if she disappeared, it wouldn't matter because no one really knows her.

She wanders in the woods, her footsteps barely making a sound as she sits down on a rock. She drinks in her surrounds as the static silence plays around her. She touches a finger to her ear and wishes desperately that it wasn't always so quiet. People, the moved their mouths and things happened. And then more of them opened their mouths, their facial expressions changing. She touched her own face and sighed.

The mud beneath her clings to her boots and she sighs again. She traces things in the dirt, things she knows but which have no meaning to her. She draws a loop, then adds a stick onto it, diagonally downward. Then a straight stick going up, and another loop. Then, carefully she traces half a loop, and following a stick and a lopp that look almost like the second symbol but backwards. And on and on until there are 26 symbols traced deep in the mud and her fingertip is soiled.

She sighs again and traces her boots over them to wipe them out. She stand up almost silently as she continues deeper into the forest.

She wanders around until she is right back where she started from, near the fountain by the two people. One of them is standing now, shifting her weight back and forth almost nervously, but not quite. The other's mouth is moving carefully and slowly, and the corners of his mouth turn down before he stops with his movements.

She watched closely to see if the girl's mouth would open. If she would react to his action.

Her mouth does move, eventually, but her mouth is turned up at the corners instead. Confused, she draws closer to the two, wondering why their faces did not match. Sometimes this happened, but not often.

Suddenly, a chill runs up her spine. She glances behind, and nothing but the darkening woods meets her gaze. But something is different; something is not right.

The sudden urge to warn these two people that there was something here was tremendous, but she had no way of doing so. And since when did she care what the mouth-movers did with their lives anyway? The only thing she needed to be focused on was survival.

But still she lurked just at the edge of the woods, hoping the two would notice something and leave.

She enters the bar, her eyes weary and searching. She studies each person as she chooses a seat alone. The quiet buzzed in her ears as everyone moved and talked in absolute silence.

Instead, the boy's mouth had turned up to match the girl's. She couldn't stall any longer, but she couldn't bear the think what would become of these people. The tingling sensation grew stronger and stronger and she desperately wished she could hear something. Shutting her eyes tightly, she took a step out into the moonlight.

The boy's eyes make contact with hers and her eyes widen. She begins to tremble as she berates herself for ever thinking this was a good idea.

How could she make them understand the danger? Another shudder went up her spine and she glanced anxiously behind her, looking for some sort of figure or spirit. There was nothing, but the urgency hit once again and she desperately pleaded with the boy.

Even though she was silent, she hoped he would understand what she was saying with her eyes.

The boy and the girl were not understanding. She tried to gesture broadly in the opposite direction of the sinister force closing in on them. Never before had she wanted to speak aloud, and hear what the boy and the girl were saying. Their mouths were moving, but their features were not panicked; they held the same calm pleasure as before.

She watched as the boy drew the girl closer to him, and then behind him. She had never seen this action before and was puzzled. Suddenly, the pond behind them stopped it's flow. It was a thin sheet on ice now. She watched in awe as the boy grabbed a stick and stood before her again. Never had she seen something like this from the depths of the woods. She lightly grasped the extended piece of wood, for it seemed he wanted her to take ahold of it.

Something flashed into her mind, a phrase taught by her mother long ago. 'If you need help, if there is something bad happening, write this for us.' She grasped ahold of the stick and sketched in the ice. First, a loop connected to a line going upward. Then, a loop with a diagonal line going downwards. Then, a small half a loop facing downward. After that, I drew a loop with a line downwards, curving at the end. The next one was a hard symbol to draw; it was a half a loop with a line underneath, then a line downards with a curve at the end attached. And then, a half a circle sideways.

She glanced up nervously at the two people and then motioned to the ominous woods. She cringed involuntarily as another shuddered wracked her delicate frame.

I look up, the stick still clutched between my fingers. I watch for their reactions as I fidget nervously in place, the silence echoing eerily around me.
