Auric Synod stepped into the Library, seemingly unseen due to his silence, his black boots made almost no sound as they touched the floor with every lightfooted step. He adjusted his glasses as he came around a bookshelf to find an Order member waiting for him at one of the tables, a small smile crossed his face, revealing the very tips of his oddly pointed teeth for a brief moment. He took a seat across from her and set down his bag, folding his hands infront of him and resting his elbows on the table. Each finger was uncovered by his gloves and all possessed a different ring. "I assume you represent the Order?" he asked, his voice was smooth and cultured with a faint elven accent as well as traces of something else that was impossible to place. His yellow eyes regarded the woman before him from above his black rimmed glasses.

Auric Synod nodded, "I will take a look and see if my services can be rendered to your satisfaction." he replied. The book looked to be closed with twine, not the usual locking clasp, this was going to be interesting and perhaps slightly challenging. He extended a hand for the tome, casting a quick glance at the golem, not often was it he saw one made of wood, most seemed be stone or metal these days. "Synod is my family name." he replied, might as well be civilised and introduce oneself, having an ambassador for a mother had taught him that.

Auric Synod didn't touch the gloves, respectful as he was he didn't need to touch the book as of yet. He closed his eyes and held his right hand over the primary knot in the twine that held the book closed. After a moment a runic circle appeared with two more inside it. "Hmm, interesting." he murmured, he had a choice to make, he could attempt to solve the puzzle of the runes, or use force and smash through the enchantments. "You have a choice to make Ms. Burke, I can take my time and try to solve this puzzle, or I can open it more forcefully at the risk of some slight damage to the text." he said, still keeping his eyes closed as the circles slowly turned below his hand. He doubted he could solve the puzzle, the runes sealing the book were ancient and from a dead culture he know little of. He did recognize the runes on the book itself, so some one other that the writer had sealed it.

Auric Synod nodded slowly, "As you wish, please stand back, some seals don't react well to being broken." he said, slipping on the white gloves and moving the book to a clear spot on the floor. This done he stood over the book and held his hands above it, closing his eyes the wind seemed to pick up around him, blowing his coat and hair about. The circles reappeared, accompanied by several pointed runes hovering above them. As the circles began to turn a pointed rune would fall and strike one of the sigils, many times it failed to have an effect, but one struck correctly and the outer circle changed from purple to yellow and ceased to move.

Auric Synod broke the second circle much faster than the first but try as he might the last circle remained uneffected. He was sure that if the last one wasn't openned shortly after the first two he would have to start over. He gritted his teeth as the pointed runes coalesced into a vaguely sword like shape before plunging into the center of the circle. The runes passed straight through the circle and the book, leaving the text seemingly undamaged while the final circle cracked and shattered. The force of his small explosion was enough for Auric to shade his sensative eyes and take a few steps back from the book. With the seals unlocked or broken the book lay with the twine untied next to it.

Auric Synod lowered his arm and smoothed his hair and coat, not quite expecting the final circle to break so forcefully. He kneeled down and gingerly lifted the grimoir before handing it back to Verena, "I trust it was satisfactory." he said to her. It was possible the explosion of the final circle may have done minor damage but the majority of the text would be intact. His yellow eyes flicked over to the roaming golem for a moment, just now noticing that it had been moving around while he worked.

Auric Synod slowly removed the white gloves that she had requested him to wear for handling the tome. "I believe it was five white iron half crowns." he replied. Fairly pricy but they got more for their money than some other sorcerors would have charged them, considering he didn't charge for reagents or travel. After he had the gloves removed he adjusted the slightly darkened glasses that covered his yellow eyes, they still stung from the flash of magic on breaking the final circle.

Auric Synod raised an eyebrow at the golem's response, he had seen very few with the ability to speak, and this one spoke an actual phrase not simple statements in two or three words. "I am not a member of a guild if that is what you are asking." he answered. His past was long and often one in which people had removed themselves from him, as such he stopped putting himself in positions for that to happen. As far as being safe was concerned Auric was only in danger if taken completely off guard and quickly incapacitated.

Auric Synod looked around the room they were standing in, as far as he knew there was only two entrances, the one he came in and the one Burke and the golem entered from. A faint blue haze formed around one of his rings for a moment as he contemplated its activation. "Ms. Burke, perhaps we should move your merchandise to less vulnerable location before some one gets ideas." he said, his eyes still travelling around the room as he thought he caught a shadow in the light from a window.

Auric Synod turned to face the door he had come in from when the door itself exploded and a squad of soldiers stepped into the room. They wore white armor with black suits underneath and purple orbs glowed in their shoulder and chestplates. Two soldiers stood out from the others, each one had spiked armor and the leftmost one had flames emblazed across it while the one on the right looked like it was frosted over.

"Hand over the grimoir," commanded the fire soldier as his squad raised its rifles, most aiming for the golem. Both the ice and fire soldier seemed be holding something in their right hands but it was difficult to tell what they were.

Auric's right hand flashed as a blue mask appeared in it. He quickly placed the mask over his face and blue light covered his body for a moment. When the light faded Auric was replaced with a new being clad in a dark blue armored robe with two curving extensions attached behind its shoulders. "Stay close, don't give them the book." the being said, its voice was deep and resonating.

"Open fire, spare the girl, she has the item." commanded the fire soldier. At this the troopers openned up on the Golem, tiny rapid fire blasts of arcane energy streamed from their weapons. The ice soldier charged at Auric, a blue beam had extended from the object he was carrying. The soldier swung his weapon in a high spinning arc aimed at the transformed Auric's neck.

Auric raised his hand and formed a barrier as the soldier's blade came near, ice spread over the barrier at the impact point. The Guardian formed a second shield and pushed forward, catching the soldier in the stomach and throwing him into a book case.

Meanwhile the fire soldier made his move, in the midst of the chaos he ran for Verena. A light purple beam extended from his weapon, due to a different color it likely had a different effect that the ice soldier's weapon. It was meant to numb her limbs and incapacitate her so he could complete his mission.

The fire soilder felt his blade deflected and just as he lost his footing the golem's wooden arm knocked him back into two of his comrades. The soldiers still upright scrambled to regroup, continuing in their rather feeble attempts to bring down the golem.

Auric moved up the ice soldier to make sure he wasn't gettig up anytime soon before throwing another shield into the soldiers' formation, knocking most of them to the ground.

After this two soldiers that had yet to be hit with an attack ceased fire and dropped their rifles at their feet, holding their arms up in surrender. "I don't the LT we should have brought a Bruiser," muttered the taller of the two, the other glared at him invisibly from behind the visor of his helmet.

Auric Synod The troopers looked at each other and tapped their belts, disappearing from the scene in a fraction of a second, their out cold comrades disappeared as well.

The Gaurdian took his time moving to Verena's side before placing an hand on either side of his mask as he flashed into blue light. When the light faded Auric had returned to the way he had been before the fight. "Locals?" he asked, he hadn't seen those soldiers before, and why would they want the grimoir? He would have been suprised if she didn't ask about what he had done.

Auric Synod smiled and held up his hand, another mask appeared in it, this one was gold. He placed it over his face. This new form was wearing a white robe trimmed in gold with wing patterns on his chest, shoulders, arms and sides, as well as wing shaped extensions coming from its back. "I am the Cleric, the one you saw before was the Gaurdian." he said, his voice was calm and soothing.

After a minute for it all to register Auric removed the mask and returned to normal. "I am inventive," he said. His actual lineage was far more bizarre than any she had listed. Though his pointed elven ears were easily visible, he didn't look quite like an elf, black hair, actually having a beard, and yellow eyes.

Auric Synod chuckled softly, his sharper than normal teeth visible for just a moment, and sat down across from her. "I assure I am mortal, and probably far older than yourself." he said, taking off his shaded glasses so she could see his eyes clearly, and tucking some of his long black hair behind his ears.

Auric Synod shielded his eyes for a moment as he looked at the shield before putting his glasses back on. "Different, is the simplest way to describe it. I am not a vampire." he said with a small laugh. "My mother was an elven embassador to a race known as the Aivoni, at some point she met my father, whom I have never met." he said, beginning his story as if it took place long ago, which it had.

Auric Synod laughed softly to himself, "The Aivoni are a briliant race, communal ownership of all necessary items. The only money they maintain is for dealing with outsiders. They are also tallented in the arts." he said, half to himself. He had spent most of his early years with Aivoni and had great respect and admiration for them.

Auric Synod shook his head, "It is no suprise that you have not heard of them, they keep to themselves and rarely leave their homeland." he said. Auric Synod couldn't see Roy's entrance since his back was to the doorway. "It took me a long time to learn my skills. Perhaps I can solve your menter problem, show me what you know." he said, standing up and dusting off his coat. If he could see her at work he could possibly give her some pointers, he wasn't an expert at summoning, though he knew some one who was.

Auric Synod turned as Verena spoke to find a young man watching them. For a brief moment blue haze formed around one of his rings. He didn't need to speak, Verena had already spoken what was on his mind. He simply regarded the newcomer through his slightly darkened glasses, there was magic in this one no doubt, he could see it.

Auric Synod shook his head, another who sought information, that was a quality to be admired. "My family name is Synod," he said, mostly because he hadn't even givin Verena his first name. She was right, he was distracted now but it would likely come back to haunt her. So this one was a magic user, but what school of magic?

Auric Synod glanced sidelong at Verena's mention of a rather sadistic librarian. "Roy, hmm. It seems we are all magic wielders here, all of different skills and disciplines." he said. He held up a hand and formed a small runic circle as a demonstration. He wasn't planning a more drastic demonstration, though he had a few tricks up his lseave if he really wanted to make himself known.

Auric Synod closed his hand and turned to Verena. "I can say with absolute certainty I have been at this a lot longer than both of you, given time and proper guidance you will learn." he said. Perhaps he would take her under his wing so to speak. He was suprised to hear draconic from Roy though, the words stroke his ears in an odd way, almost harsh sounding.

Auric Synod chuckled softly, understatement on Roy's part and Verena's oppinion of him. "Magic can be quick to learn but lifetimes to master." he said, smiling that he had actually said lifetimes in the plural, as far as a human lifespan he was about on his second. He knew his mother was a long lived being but what of his father?
