Description

His Butler, My Brother

It didn't seem possible for the cold night air to be so...comforting. Even with the bitter chill that caused the noes to run,ear lobes to burn and sheer amazement of seeing one's breath falling out in a gentle mist. The very reason for such feeling of comfort, was the sound. A gentle whisper that cut through the air, the sound of a magician and his violin. The depression of the world was soothed, eternal darkness was finally given a small spark of flickering candlelight, as a demon-of all the creatures to exist- played his tune, to breathe life into the overwhelming oppression.

Darius was brother to a famous demon named by his previous master as: Sebastian Michalis, having made his name with the Lord Earl Ciel Phantomheim...till his time came to pay the toll of Sebastian's services.

Now, Demon's are not usually what you would expect, though being born from the deep hellfire and screaming pits of boiling flesh would have given anyone the right to assume, and it would have been wise to assume that a few where a little...twisted. It's the quiet one's mainly, that wear the guise of the norm that need to be avoided, for they are among the most dangerous but also-amongst the most polite and rather charming.

Quite like, Darius.

However, the violin that played was not meant for malice, not to lure the people of the small bar known as Gambits into a dangerous pied piper conflict- he was just pulling life into the place. And in doing so, the fire began to roar and waver in the hearth, candles within the chandeliers burst wildly into life, flickering and dancing to Darius' inspired tune. Much like his brother,Darius lived to serve the will of others-to fulfill their needs and give them their wants. And where he was needed the most, was Gambits. With crimson eyes that gazed out at the patrons, they remained behind his rectangular glasses which where slowly sliding down his nose, and yet made no move to adjust them- not wishing to stop in the playing of this melody.

For months he served the people of the bar, everyday with the polite bow and smile that was required of him, holding the dear patrons in his highest priority, well, if a bartender of Gambits couldn't think that, what kind of a tender is he?

His attire was always smart, clean pressed and spotless. His hands where next to always seen within a pair of smart, white cotton gloves, yet for certain times-like playing the violin-they where removed. Not that they where to hide anything mind you,it was completely for practicality and not wanting anything to dirty his hands while he worked...and, for a slight measure of aesthetics.

He loved his job, everything about it. The people, energy, everything! It made him feel like himself and without restraint, he was glad that he hardly ever had to deal with trouble...which was defiantly a large bonus. Even though Darius was, or certainly appeared to be a gentle creature, he despised those who made his evil side pull through, but yet luckily, that had not happened in a long time, and still he held much more destain for the unnecessary show of force...such an ugly thing.
Sometimes, Sebastian would enter the bar and usually when Darius played his violin...however, with news reaching the bartender's ears of his brother coming to wed...he gave his obvious disapproval against the idea, knowing his sibling was going to meet his eventual end. The sibling rivalry was more apparent with Darius than Sebastian, his brother made a number of contracts, became famous and no matter what Darius did he was always: 'just copying Sebastian' which as you can imagine-was infuriating, often leading the poor demon tender into serious circles of depression.

Slowly though, he came to a stop with his playing, the bar was thriving and all sorts of patrons had entered within his time of playing. Now was his time to really get to work, people where lined along the counter, each different in their taste- to which Darius was inclined to oblige too.

Once he stepped behind the bar, orders where instantly given, each met with a calm and polite bow, as was customary for the demon bartender, each met with a kind smile, and the soft acknowledgement of:

"Yes, how may I assist you...?"

Darius's Story

Darius gave a deep, sigh that slipped passed his pale lips as rich crimson eyes glanced around the bar slowly, this place heaved with life, much more so than anywhere else. His hands where placed into white soft cotton gloves as his entire attire consisted of black trousers and waist coat, a set of sharp tailored tails where worn over it though lengths of black hair framed long pale facial features. What could this demon be doing here? Yet he was unemployed currently, so...perhaps a way of killing the monotonous boredom that came with the life he held, and perhaps a soul or two to devour.

Darius let a disgusted expression cross his gentlemanly face, though this soon passed as he moved up toward the bar counter, tall lengthy frame standing by the bar as he appeared to be looking over the alcohol lining it. The choices, not much that he cared for...yet the people here where so young, no one he would serve willingly at all, loud and brash, no self control at all. What a pity. Gloved fingers tapped across the wood of the surface, my my...what poor service too, this surely could not do...the tall demon appeared behind the bar counter, narrowed eyes glared at the bottles with destain, honestly, how dirty these humans where.

Darius blinked in slight surprise, not moments before getting behind the counter, the young, girl who sat at the counter seemed too young to consume any alcoholic beverages, however just by her being there he concluded that they sold more, than just alcohol. Flicking up a clean towel, Darius' hand folded it over the edge of his arm, and brought it toward the side of his body, giving the girl a small, cat like smile. "Miss, i believe...i shall have to act as your tender." He cooed in a comforting tone.

Darius slowly made his way down, from the hotel above-Darius, was a demon without work, and without a purpose. For now, he took care of the small things up in the hotel, while the strange and large robots took care of everything down in the bar area. In truth, Darius was not much for the crowd, but only tended to focus himself for one person at a time, unlike other demon butlers. His white cotton gloved hands, pushed at a pair of glasses that balanced on the edge of his nose with his middle finger-slightly bent as so his index could remain straight.

He held a white cloth within his grasp, tall frame taking a glance around the room very briefly before he stood himself just toward the side of the stairs, musing over what he could possibly do to fill his time.

Darius continue to look about the room, slowly moving up toward the counter top, his coat tails moving just a little with his pace as he stopped himself, allowing the cloth that was occasionally draped over a portion of his arm to rest onto the wooden surface. He noticed, that there only seemed to be a couple of persons' who served these patrons on duty right now, maybe he should have gave a hand?

He pondered on this thought, glasses slipping down his nose just a little more before he pushed them up again, in the same manor as previously.

Darius glanced over at the rather unruly entrance of a young woman, and gave a very small sigh, closing his eyes slightly against the light of the bar, rather glad that he held a choice, of whom he served as a butler. It was then, he noticed that the male tending, had not noticed the angry female at the other end, proving that indeed, this bar seemed to be strife with oddities at all times, almost overwhelmingly so.

He hated disrupting in on a conversation, however there would have been major consequences if the female was not noticed, from the looks of things. Darius moved toward Isis and Garel, giving a slight incline of his head and a hand pressed across his chest. "Excuse me-" He began, obviously uncomfortable with the situation.

"But I belive that lady, seems in desperate need of a drink." Darius informed the tender, motioning a hand toward Andraste, keeping his dark eyes onto him, as a messenger.

Darius felt his eye twitch, frozen a little in his spot as the insanity seemed to sky rocket, no sooner had his words come across, had the male turned from him and the lady, jump up on the counter and begin some strange ritual. Darius was not too sure how he could handle this, watching Garel trying to contain the woman, he glanced at the bar which occupied only one tender now.

It wouldn't be his fault, if the young woman decided to tear the place apart, he had tried to warn them. And yet, nothing had come from it. A heavy sigh of exasperation came from his lips, as the butler takes it onto himself to move behind the bar while Ivan and Garel focus onto the lady who seemed bent on disrupting the peace.

His frame stood toward the seething lady that barged in Andraste, eyes unfaltering behind his frameless glasses.

Darius noted that the lady who had previously been barking for a drink, had engaged herself with a smaller male, he remained where he was, arms, held neatly toward his side yet eyes slid off toward the side, how could the tenders here possibly think to uphold a high enough standard? Darius swallowed heavily, not out of nervousness, oh no, this demon was hardly phased by such things as leaping women and rush of orders.

To pass the time, he waited, slowly removing his glasses from the bridge of his nose, to wipe them slowly on the cloth that held its self over his arm, making sure that they where spotless and unmarked, just like the rest of him. Deep crimson eyes looked over at the man who seemed rushed with all orders at once, remaining behind the counter as he waited.

Darius could not help but let his eyes drag toward the one that had addressed him, Andraste, as he had yet to replace his glasses. His eyes which seemed to appear constantly to be in a slight narrowed state, looked at her, a small, cat like smile appearing on his pale lips as he replaced the glasses to the end of his nose, pushing them up to their appropriate place with his middle and index finger, wrist slightly bent with this action to make sure he could keep his eyes in full view of this lady.

"I must assure you, that I held no desire to wait for your impending explosion...after, not being served directly. Do you still require a drink, or shall i attend to the boy you have sent to do your bidding?" Darius questioned her, raising a slim brow slowly.

Darius quickly, spotted the table half come flying toward the serving area of the bar, he heaved a small sigh, raising a hand toward the shadows that gathered behind him, lurching upward, to swallow the table half, much like a large hand that gripped it, and devoured it down into itself. Remaining there for a moment, before Darius looked over at the eye-patched woman, if he was going to help, then he couldnt rightly let the stock be damaged, could he?

Darius turned to focus back onto Andraste, allowing the great shadow to mold itself back into the floor, before he gave a smile, eyes closed before they where opened with the little boy's words, and took up the money.

"It appears that you where rather vicious with the door, and you're entrance." Darius informed her, holding the coins within the palm of his gloved hand. "How may I be of assistance, my Lady?" Darius questioned her, holding a hand across his chest as he gave the very slightest of bows.

Darius allowed a small twinge pull at the base of his spine, as he became aware, of the other demonic presence in the bar, and not only that, he appeared very much like him, trying to blend in among these strangers. Darius however, never allowed his stature or eyes to move or adjust while he awaited the order from Andraste, and as she faltered to give him one-he straightened upward to his feet.

"I am afraid I am not 'kidding' you Miss." Darius stated, as he realized that he and the robot where the one's behind the bar, the demon was never one for those sorts of things, and yet he felt that if security was tight, then there would have been more time and money, gone into the drinks and services.

"What is it that you require?" He asked her, still holding the coins within his hand, and, if she held no desire for a drink he would gladly and swiftly return them to her.

Darius slowly turned around to face the rather large robot, after hearing the lady's order he gave the strange, almost faceless thing a smile. "This lady requires something strong." He stated swiftly, holding out his gloved hand, to the robot, trying to hand over the golden coins that he had been given while he had tried to help serve.

Darius gave no word to what he himself desired, it was just simple, he only needed to serve...and as long as that was being met-he was a fulfilled demon. He couldn't help but desire to know, who it was that actually owned the serving rights of employment at the moment, Darius felt the need to enquire about the job. Yet, now the robot was taking care of the woman, he moved out from behind the bar, standing, just at its end as his dark eyes looked about the room, choosing to leave his demonic brethren alone for now.

Darius continued to stand, and look about slowly, adjusting his glasses on the end of his nose, he kept his middle finger there for the moment, resting on the center of his glasses as he tried to remember, who it was that was shouting at the male named Ivan, about owning the bar. Darius had a keen interest in serving these people, even if he had those strange robotic forms to do the work, he knew that they had to leave sometimes, being around long enough to know, what roudyness these patrons could come up with when left to their own devices.

Certainly, the rather frostbitten male who seemed short on temper, but managed the most out of all the others he had seen.

Darius noted, by the loud shout from one particular male who shouted about being the appropriate owner of the bar, Darius gave a swallow to clear his throat, and brushed down the front of his tailed coat, also known as the swallow-tail design. Darius made sure that the front of his buttons where neat, fastened, and not too awkwardly tilted. He moved toward Captain Arren, politely, giving a small smile and an incline of his frame, bending very slightly at the waist.

"Excuse me, Sir." Darius began, trying to catch the attention of the male before him, and if this was granted to him, he would straighten, allowing his glasses to slip only slightly down the edge of his nose. "I wish to work here, for you...as a tender." He explained, unsure, exactly how one proposed such a notion, he held no need for money or the like, as long as his demonic powers where being used, and not lay dormant. He hoped he made a good enough impression to the man...

Darius stood behind the counter, his posture was straight and correct, and a small cat like grin curled onto his pale lips. Darius was happy with himself, and his new position. His dark crimson eyes looked out at the patrons from his position, taking just a moment to adjust his glasses with his middle and index finger, letting the digits rest there, briefly while he surveyed them and the door for any that may require his assistance as bartender. He appeared to be one happy demon, since, 'what sort of butler could he be if he could not do something so simple?'

It was quoted from his brother, known to him for following the same line of work as he, though he had managed to get himself a master that sought revenge and blood, not the most exciting job in the world, it was so, cliche.

Darius picked up his clean white towel that rested over the crook of his arm, and turned toward the glasses that had been taken out from the washer, long fingers taking ahold of one as he placed it into his palm, other hand using the towel to stroke away the water droplets, careful that he did not smudge it in the process, instantly, his ears gave a twitch as the order was given, and no sooner had the words, fallen from the lady's lips, was a glass, of clear vodka resting on a neat napkin before her.

"My Lady....you asked, for this?" Darius questioned in a low tone, giving her a light smile for being her first customer. "I must ask you for two cubits" Darius informed her, as he was a tender now, not allowed to make exceptions for the patrons and their drinks.

Darius gave a sharp blink as she looked down at the woman, she had given no strict orders as to the amount of drink she required, however, barmaid nor no, he knew that the staff still needed to pay for their own drinks, and most certainly weren't allowed to order so much of the stock in one go.

"Forgive me Miss, but you do not seem to be in the right condition to be drinking." Darius informed her, slowly, letting his fingers guide the glass of clear vodka and napkin more to the side of the woman's head, for fear that it may be knocked off.

Darius raised a slender brow down at the woman as her attitude was less than admirable, and un-lady like. Darius knew that being a tender had its pros, and most certainly its cons...and dealing with over dramatic young women seemed to be top of the list of things he would encounter on a daily basis.

"I advise against it Miss....HellShine?" Darius informed her, taking a glance toward the clock who seemed to announce her name, returning his bespeckled eyes onto her. "If you decide to take that course of action, your job shall be terminated and you will no longer be allowed into this bar." Darius informed her, yet he turned his back, reaching, for the bottle that seemed most safest to give her.

"I require your payment Miss." Darius informed her while resting the bottle to the counter, however he kept his hand to its top, just in case she may have tried to take it without paying.

Darius felt his eye twitch some as she listened to the woman, however, as she did not adress him, he had no place to respond. Picking up the coins, he turned about, biting his tongue back about being hired by the very person who OWNED the bar, and could have rightly terminated her employment for such abuse to a fellow employee. He turned his head however, when he was adressed by the clock.

"It is alright, Clock." Darius said with a small smile, feeling a rather queer sensation with having to speak with a clock, however as it seemed to be functioning with personality, his unrest was short lived. His red eyes glanced over to a woman by the fire, seemingly having some trouble with a task, and yet he felt his need to go and attend to the empty glasses about the place. Darius moved, slowly out from behind the bar, keeping his straight posture as he picked up a few stray glasses on the table tops, a rather, strange shadow keeping to the place where he once was behind the bar.

Darius stood up after leaning to pick up another glass, looking over his shoulder at the clock, finding it rather charming that it could speak so properly, a way that he had missed very dearly.

"Again, Clock, I am quite all right with it." Darius informed it with his small smile still present onto his face, taking his hand fulls of empty glasses toward the counter, as the shadow like creature that occupied behind it, took them up in hands, that seemed to solidify, making itself the mirror copy of Darius as he-turned toward Eva, very gently, as so not to startle her in any way.

"Excuse me, Miss." Darius began in a very gentle tone, deep crimson eyes looking toward the empty drink glass nearby as his frame bent very slightly at the waist, so he appeared to be partly bowed toward her so not to seem to intruding. "May I collect your glass?"

Darius gave a slow bow of his head, sending his glasses slightly down his nose as he did so, taking the wine bottle very lightly into his white gloved hands, holding it with the palm of one hand, as his other had his fingers gently wrapped around the neck of it to keep it in place. Standing straight, he looked downward at the slightly intoxicated female-unphased by it certainly.

"No Miss, I have only started formal work this morning." Darius informed her, always formal and polite to the customers, as the demon held his job very tightly, and knew he should respect people before allowing them to show their true colours. He looked over his shoulder briefly at the new arrivals as they entered, making sure to keep his ears sharp in case they came to the bar counter while he answered Eva's questions.

Darius gave a polite incline of his head, as, of course there would have been a small shift in the air about him, as his hair, seemed to fall forward a little from the back of his head, glasses falling right to the tip of his nose as the empty bottle, sat itself on the edge of the bar near the other glasses, his shadow like creature, attending to the cleaning of them, and disposing of the wine bottle. Darius had moved his frame quickly enough, to place the bottle onto the counter, and pick up a new one of the which she informed him.

"Is this, to your liking, my lady?" Darius asked her, it had been such a long time since he got to serve people, and he felt just in his element.

Darius set the wine bottle down onto the table near her before taking the coins, using that brief moment to allow his middle and index finger to push up his glasses by the small silver arch that connected the frames.

He held the coins in his one hand, enveloping his fingers around them as his other, brought across his chest, bowing toward her.

"Thank you, My Lady." He spoke in gratitude to her allowing him to serve her, turning on his heel, he moved back behind the bar, the shadow of himself, melting back into the wood. He placed the coins safely away, as he looked around,

"Clock-?" He called out, wondering where it had gotten too- before the arrival of a woman came, leaping over to his side of the bar. "Miss...?" He questioned, raising a brow down at Yuki.

Darius gave a small nod toward Yuki, as his attention was drawn toward Eva, seeing her motion he picked up a glass, positioning it very delicately on his silver tray, lightly draped with a white cloth, he wanted this bar to be elegant, and willing to serve with the highest of quality- to bring it back to the way it was. As soon as he moved out from behind the bar counter, his mirror image shadow replaced him, making sure to keep an eye on Yuki, and the male opposing the counter. Darius turned to Eva's side,

"Your glass, my lady." He motioned, lowering his hand with the tray balanced on it to her, so she may take the glass for her own will.
