Description

Image

The jagged edges of her raven locks appeared as though someone had taken a razor to them in a frenzy. Deep chocolate-brown eyes were tainted by a faint ring of red just around the pupil. Her skin was a ghastly white, as though she didn't get much sun at all. Around her neck hung a heavy silver chain with a pentacle pendant, tiny red stones set into the metal at the five points of the star. She wore several layers of dress in varying shades of black and purple, looking altogether overdressed for most occassions. She carried herself with an air of grace and elegance, if a bit of arrogance.

Equipment

Magical Abilities:
~ Soul Drain: a contact-required ability, it brings slow death to anyone she touches while using it. The longer a person is touched, the more energy is drained, until they are weakened, and finally killed by lack of energy to keep their bodies running. In turn, her own energy and abilities are refreshed an rejeuvenated using the stolen energy. It is her only innate and most basic ability.

~ Magic Drain: A modified version of Soul Drain, this ability has the same effect, but operates only on a victim's innate magical abilities. (Learned abilities do not count.) This ability is not fatal, but completion results in the person's magic ability being completely wiped from their system. However, if the process is interrupted at any stage, she can copy their ability only for as long as she managed to touch them.

~ Fire manipulation, level 3: Her first stolen ability. She can summon fire from a nearby source and increase its intensity by ten, but she cannot create fire from will. It also grants her protection from other fire-based attacks.

~ Shadow manipulation, level 2: The same as fire manipulation, though with shadow energy instead of fire elemental. At this stage, she can convert shadow into matter, but only for a short period of time.

~ Self-regeneration: a healing ability that applies only to herself. Small injuries heal within moments, larger ones take longer to repair, though still faster than an average human's. Fatal strikes are still fatal, as the power is not innate but has to be used with some measure of will and concentration.

Other Items: a small purse of coins

History

Image
There was no question that little miss Desidra Gallian was destined for greatness. Born to middle nobility in a kingdom known at the Crossrealms, Lady Desidra was raised as any other noble, taught to read and write, and granted almost anything her childish heart could desire. She grew in grace and beauty, and was betrothed to another noble's son to unite their lands. Alas, our little Lady had a mild case of rebellious princess syndrome, choosing instead to participate in clandestine meetings in the land's local taverns. At the tender age of fourteen, she wed her true love, Derrik DewGahr.

Despite their best efforts to disappear and elope, her Lord father hired several bounty hunters, who eventually tracked the happy couple down. Derrik was killed in the struggle, and Desidra was whisked away to her father's dungeon for bringing such shame upon the family. While prisoner in her own castle, she met a fellow prisoner, a heretical priest who claimed to offer her power unimaginable, enough to overthrow her father and take her rightful place. And it was under the guidance of this priest that she began her training in the dark arts. It was he who discovered her awesome power, and he who was the first to succumb to it. On the night they were to escape, she killed him, absorbing his firemancing powers and setting the whole castle ablaze. Her parents, her siblings, her old friends, they all perished in the inferno she wrought upon the castle- the inferno from which she walked away without so much as a burn.

Having tasted the fullness of her powers, as well as the satisfaction of taking another's life, all in one night, she set out to wreak even more havoc across the multiverse, leaving a trail of death and destruction as she seeks out those with the abilities she lusts after.

So begins...

Around her neck hung a heavy silver chain with a pentacle pendant, a red stone set into the metal at the five points of the star. She wore several layers of dress in varying shades of black and purple, looking altogether overdressed for a place such as Gambit's. A stony gaze swept over the patrons of the bar, seeming to search the crowd for something in particular. Her eyes fell upon the form of Rex, and elegantly sculpted ebony brows rose, a smile pulling at the corners of deep red lips. She strolled toward him, hands locked almost innocently behind her back. "Greetings." The voice was a smooth alto, sumptuous and alluring...in an alarming sort of way.

"I am...a collector of sorts. And you have been pointed out to me as a person who helps in collection." She smiled at that, a wicked twist of her mouth. She sat down opposite at the table from him, disregarding the fact that he hadn't actually invited her to join him. Her voice was low, and her gaze rather hypnotic. "I think I have an offer you might be interested in."

"I'm collecting people, if it pleases you. Here." She reached into the many layers of clothing to retrieve a small photo of a very petite woman with white hair. "I need her brought to me alive, as soon as you can manage. I have it on reliable information that she's been frequenting this place and the surrounding areas, so I don't think she'll give you much trouble." Her eyes focused on him, and if they could they'd be burning a hole through the back of his head (in a figure of speech sort of way). "Name your price and it's yours."

"Your compensation will only come when you deliver her to me, as intact as possible. Her death nullifies our contract." Any smile she may have had faded. "As for her friends, they are your problem, not mine. Do with them as you will. I'm not so stupid as to put all my eggs in one basket. If you manage to bring her in, you'll get whatever bounty you desire. If not, you'll get nothing." She awaited his reply with empty eyes.

She frowned deeply, not moving from her seat. "It seems you already know more about the target than I do." She furrowed a brow in intense internal debate. "The offer of bounty is still to be had, if you desire. I have no more incentive for you." With that, she quite calmly rose from the table and headed for the door. It would seem she had more of her own investigating to do. Though it stood to reason that if this hired scum knew such things about gentle Whisper, she had finally struck the right place to begin her own search for her prize.

Slender black heels clicked rhythmically, like a metronome, as she strode in. She paused, brow creasing in thought as her gaze swept over the room. Her lips pursed slightly as she looked from the bar to the shadowy edges of the room. Her eyes settled on a table half-hidden in shadows, and a smile twisted her deep red lips. It was there that she aimed herself, carrying herself with long, elegant strides.

Desidra DewGahr dark eyes fell on Milo, and a sly smile lit up her face. She pushed off from the table and moved toward the bar, slipping herself onto a stool. "A Shirley Temple, please." Her eyes were alight with delight, and she smiled with a saccharine sweetness that was an obvious feint.

The woman slipped a hand into the layers of dress, and pulled out the asked for money. She set it on the bar, but kept her fingers on it, preventing him from taking it. "I have a need to speak with you, tender." Her voice was smooth, a sultry alto. "And I can give you whatever payment you desire in return for helping. I'm sure it would top out your 'hazard pay'." Her smile returned, with an odd wickedness in her eyes.

She frowns, releasing the money. "Then perhaps you'll merely help a stranger? All I need to know is if you've seen this girl around here lately." She fished in the same pocket she had for the money and pulled out a photo of a very petite woman with pale skin and white hair. "She's a friend of mine, and I've been searching for her for years. Lost touch, you know."

She smiled again, though a particularly perceptive person might have noticed it was forced. "They call me Quicksilver. That's all you need to know. Are you certain I couldn't convince you to keep an eye out for her?" Her nostrils flared slightly at Aequitas, though she offered him a sweet smile as well.

Her face fell, the disappointment sincere. "Thank you for your time, then." She huffed slightly, her brow creasing once again as she sat back in her seat. She hadn't yet touched her drink, and quite looked as if she didn't care for it at all. Her eyes turned to the rest of the bar, wondering which of the mindless drones in here might actually have something useful for her.

The woman would stand with a yawn, then return herself to a shadowy side table. It seemed as though it would be a good place to 'people' watch.

A pair of dark eyes, glimmered as they fell upon Gloreruhl, and a slight smile graced her visage once again. She rose and moved to where the High Lady sat. She made a deep curtsie to the Lady, bowing her head as she did so. "It seemed to me that you needed some company, M'lady..." A sweet smile beaming at the woman.

She seated herself, still a smile on her face. "I am most often called Quicksilver, occassionally the Vampress. My name, however, is Desidra." She smiled at that, waiting to gague the woman's reaction. She reclined in her chair, taking a comfortable position for their chat.

"Oh, I'm searching for an old friend, but that's of little matter. I'm quite a bit more interested in your story, miss Gloreruhl." She said the name slowly, not wishing to mispronounce the tricky name. "I wonder what business a merfolk has spending so much time on dry land." Her smile was more of a smirk, and her chin lifted a little smugly.

She smiled gleefully at the woman's directness, and figured it couldn't hurt to let a little more bait out on the line. "Not an enemy. Prey." The words were simple, spoken with the giddiness of a child on Christmas morning. "She possesses something I desire." Her eyes glazed over slightly as she imagined what it would be like to harness that power...how untouchable she would be.

A brow raised at that, seeming rather amused at the notion. "Because you have little choice, fishwoman." She smiled fully, evil glinting in her eyes. "Besides, I didn't come here to talk about me. It's you I'm interested in. I wonder, is there truth to the lore of the siren's song?"

She frowned slightly. "Ah, remind me to kill the one who told me Sirens and Mermaids were the same thing. I quite told him he was wrong..." The smile returned, if a bit more forced this time. "And I presume you would allow it because it's really of no concern to you. A Lady like yourself has much more important things to worry about than some nobody." She seems to finally notice the drink that was provided for her, and she lifted it in a mock toast before taking a sip.

She frowned a bit. "Well, I'm afraid that puts a little thorn in our burgeoning relationship. Pity, I was starting to like you." She threw back the rest of her drink, and set the empty glass on the table. "Fortunately I am only a visitor here. I'm afraid that my home, and my personal dealings, are a bit beyond your jurisdiction." Her smile returned, a mocking grin. "That being said...you would have to catch me first." Her eyes lit up once again at the thought.

Her smile spread slowly, taking in all the enjoyable information her companion relayed. "I look quite forward to it." With that she rose from her seat, giving the woman another deep bow. "I'm afraid however, there are other matters on my watch for which I must make myself scarce. I do so hope to see you again..." She paused before adding, "...M'lady." With a smile she spun on her toes and headed for the door.

She was still a ways off when her eyes beheld the pile of rubble that had once been Gambit's bar. She let out a sigh, brows furrowing with a hint of irritation. She hadn't been here long enough for the place to be near and dear, but it had been a useful center of gathering in her search. This was certainly going to throw a wrench in her plans, and her expression made her displeasure known. A small snarl came from her lips as she neared the wreckage, her annoyance growing with every step. She glared at the various beings all huddle around the pile of trash as if it were some sacred monument, how ridiculous. But she was glad to see that it was still a gathering place...of sorts. A pair of deep brown eyes fell upon Sophia, and the mage studied the other woman for a long moment, analyzing what she saw.

She saw the woman reach for her weapon, and a slow smile spread across her face. Indeed, this woman might do very well. With long, flowing strides she carried herself toward Sophia, a genial smile on her face. "Greetings," came the word from a sultry alto voice. "I'll not waste your time, so I'll get right to the point. I have an inclination of what you do for a living, and I'm wondering if you might be interested in some employment."

The woman's piqued interest was enough to solidify Desidra's opinion, and her smile was persisitent as she reached into one of the several layers of her clothing, pulling out a photo of a very petite woman with white hair and blue eyes. "I'm searching for....an old friend...and I'm quite hoping you might be able to help me locate her." She held the picture out for Sophia to take. "I have an understanding that she's been a recent visitor in this area, and I'm quite hoping to end my search in the near future."

She smiled, taking quite a liking to this woman already. "Forgive the fluff, as I have met some who wish their dealings be more than discreet. But no, I do not wish her unfortunate end. I quite need her alive, you see. Your only task is to retrieve her and bring her to me. Upon completion of that task, I shall provide you with whatever compensation you desire."
