James Strayer

A man with extraordinary fortunes, one way or another.

0 · 113 views · located in Wing City

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Midnightclub

Description

James is a 5'10'' suave young man with brown hair and brown eyes. He is usually wearing glasses and his leather jacket. All in all there is not much significant about his looks. However, Jimmy has a problem with luck. He has too much luck both bad and good. His day will be going great until he gets hit by a car and then luckily survives. His luck has always been fluctuating and he can do nothing about

Personality

He is generally optimistic and, although his luck can be great at times, he usually wishes that he was more like normal people. He is not certain whether there's some outside force controlling his patterns of misfortune and fortune. He knows that he can't stop it though, so instead he has learned to live with it. A fairly 'normal' man, he enjoys all kinds of music and is usually calm and collected.

Equipment

Jim isn't very skilled at anything that doesn't involve games of chance but he does carry some equipment just to be safe.

Knife: a basic pocket knife with three types of blades, one with serrated edges.

Leather jacket: In his life the only thing that he knows will give him luck is his leather jacket. When wearing it he is rarely hurt, always avoiding danger at the last second.

History

James has just moved to Wing City from up north. He has just gotten a job as a bartender at Gambit's Bar.

So begins...

A young man, about 20 walked into Gambit's. He looked side to side in the bar, his brown leather jacket fluttering a little as if in a breeze. He walked up to the counter holding his forehead. "I'll have two gin and tonics please." His glasses glinted off the light as he looked around the bar once more. James Strayer wondered what kind of luck he would have today.

It was his darn luck again. Although he couldn't tell if it was bad or good, he'd nearly fell and hurt himself but he'd gained a lot of attention that he hadn't really wanted. "Uh, thanks. I-I'm fine, I guess." Then, as he was getting up, the same bard came over and asked for a song request. He noticed the instrument and figured that a song by ACDC wouldn't really be the song of choice for this man. "No, not right now, thanks." He turned back to the Corporal, "Can, can I get you some more beers?"

James Strayer looked from his drink to the kid's. He smiled and put down the G&T. He'd always liked kids. "Hey buddy, come here often?" He asked with a grin.

James Strayer Thought about how his luck had been over the past few days and about how bad this kid's luck must be. He saw a girl about his age with a G&T in her hand. He waved her over as the man behind her crept up. James, of course, noticed none of this. "How do you get in?" he asked, "I thought you had to be 21 to get in a joint like this."

James Strayer noticed the man that had walked over to the girl he'd waved to. They didn't seem to be too much like friends. He was almost ignoring the kid now as he stared at the two facing off. "A teleporter? Never seen one of those..." He wondered if he should step in.

"Do you have any alien tech that can stop a bullet?" He walked over to the two and stepped a little in between them. He hoped he could disarm the situation before it started. Facing Damien, he said "What seems to be the problem here?"

James Strayer was pushed back a few steps but righted himself. "I don't want any trouble man." Then he had an ingenious thought. He turned and winked slightly at Phoebe "I just don't want to see my girlfriend get hurt. Her dad's a cop and I know I don't wanna take the rap if anything goes wrong." He'd seen guys like these before and he hoped the two obvious put offs would make this man simply back down to push his poon elsewhere.

James Strayer had to crane his neck to look at the man in armor before him, and he was standing farther back from Damian. He looked at Phoebe and raised an eyebrow. He nodded to the boy and to her. Maybe it was high time to leave before things got any nastier. He said to the two, whilst the armored giant and Damian talked, "Maybe we should get out of here, huh?"

James Strayer stepped back and turned to the boy, but then the boy took out a gun of his own. Does everyone have a gun in this place? He watched as the huge man bent down to Damian giving him an ultimatum. It seemed to him that the black man was outmatched and outnumbered. He decided to stay and watch the events unfold, it wasn't like he had somewhere else to go.

James Strayer stared openly, how could Damian not back down? The man attempted to push Damian away and James held his breath, here was hoping for happy endings. The boy had a gun trained on the man and the woman looked like she really wished the man harm. It wasn't surprising when he remembered what she'd said before. Now the man was grabbing in his coat again. "Seriously guy, why don't you just make it easier on yourself and leave?"

Now the big man walked up to them and asked questions to Phoebe. Did we just trade one evil for another? James thought. He stayed by the woman none the less and spoke up, his voice came out as a squeak at first but he got it under control and said,"Hey, the man just snuck up on her and tried to get her money. It wasn't really her fault at all!"

As he sipped on the G&T, he walked to a booth. He sat down and held his forehead. Today had been particularly strange for James. While on his way to the bar he had been hit by a car. But, instead of dying he had flipped over the hood and found himself standing on his feet. He had been so excited about surviving the crash that he didn't notice a strretlight until he'd run headfirst into it. He sighed and took a long drink of the alcohol.

James Strayer looked at the seat next to him. There was a large bill there. He looked around and saw nobody close. This seat had been in one of the far back corners and was quite cold when he got here. He pocketed it with a grin. "What luck!" Then he decided to treat himself to some dinner. He called for a waitress or service bot.

James Strayer started eating. He had ordered the prime rib with a side of soup and loaded fries. He ate slowly, enjoying every bite of the delicious meal. The food was practically a delicacy compared to what he usually got, but he hoped to rise from his current job soon.

James Strayer paid and stood up. The meal and alcohol had made him feel much better. As he got up, he looked around the bar. There didn't seem to be anyone alone, so he couldn't really talk to anyone without intruding. He decided to leave and headed towards the door. Then he found himself falling backwards. He found himself on his back and dazed, an ice cube lay near his head. Looking up, he saw a man and a dragon. He smiled at Tikaro and Commander Tsubasa Dragony sheepishly, "Hi there."

James Strayer groaned and sat up. "Well, nice chatting with you guys." He stood up and suppressed a cry of pain. The two ignored him as he walked over and dropped himself into a couch by the fireplace with a grunt. He looked at a sad-faced girl next to him. "Hey there."

James Strayer took the hand and nodded. "James Strayer at your service." He looked at the fire for a second but felt rude so turned back to the woman. "How are you?"

James Strayer inconspicuously looked the woman over. Her clothes seemed a little dark for his tastes but she was still pretty. "I'm alright I guess. The Big Guy has had his laughs today so now I'm just gonna rest." He said thinking of his recent streak of good and bad luck.

James Strayer didn't seem to notice the question. "Yeah, usually if I stay in one place I don't have bad luck for a while." He relaxed back in the chair, trying to stay inconspicuous to the giant Minotaur, he didn't know the beast but with his luck it was probably best not to know him. He looked at the woman again, she seemed to be looking at him in an odd way, "...What?"

James Strayer stared openly, he'd heard of magic of course (In this bar who hadn't?) but he'd never met a witch before. "Wait, how do you stop being a witch, aren't you like born with magic?" He noticed the goings on in the bar, but he couldn't do anything, he'd most likely just get hurt. He kept his interested gaze on Willow instead and tried to ignore the rampaging man-beast.

James Strayer was surprisingly (To himself) unscathed. He absentmindedly picked splinters from his hair and smiled back. "It's ok. Most people," he nodded towards the fighting pair, "know how to fight or do magic. I don't really care about fighting and I think The Big Guy doesn't want me to be hurt." He laughed thinking about his recent fall or when he got hit by a car, "Well, most of the time anyway. So I just don't care enough for those kind of things."
