In the living room of one Lory Scot's semi-detached house in the suburbs of Wing City, a young woman looked up from the installation of a motion sensor alarm with a frown as a knock sounded on the door. Removing the screw driver from her mouth and laying it on the floor, Kaori Walker stood up, adjusting her jacket and walking over to the hallway.

She flicked open the eye-hole that she had installed in the door the previous day and peered out. "Yes? I'm sorry, Miss Scot isn't home right now. Who are you?"

Kaori muttered a curse under her breath. She hated being interrupted whilst she was working. "One moment." she said, reaching down and undoing the latch on the door. And the chain, and the bolt, and finally turning the key in the lock and opening the door.

Kaori was a short woman, with long black hair that fell to her mid back. She was clearly of Asian heritage despite her strong British accent, and she didn't look pleased to be interrupted. "Kaori Walker, I work for a private hire protection and investigation group. I'm setting up some home security for Miss Scot."

"I'm sorry? Miss Scot has hired me to install her security systems. I am not violating the law, but I would be violating a trade agreement were I to not install the security." Kaori scowled, "I've already taken note of the things you require. I can save you time by handing you a floor plan. I won't get in your Special Agent's way, I have more than enough experience in things like this."

Kaori had little intention of following Romanae's instructions -- that would be taking 'interrupting her at work' to a whole new level of infuriating.

Kaori fumed, but after a moment transformed her scowl into a sweet smile. "But of course, Agent Retna." The woman smiled, "I'll wait down the road. I wouldn't want my client to feel worried, after all. She obviously has the utmost confidence in your abilities, or else she might have hired my entire team out, instead of just myself and my partner."

Kaori shrugged, "But I'm sure that you'll be fine, just let me get my things."

With that, the ex-SIS agent disappeared back inside the house, piling the contents of her tools away into her rucksack. As she returned to the doorway, she paused, "Oh, you might want to note -- the doorway to Miss Scot's room on the second floor -- third door on the right, is reinforced, locked and alarmed, and requires a passcode; 873419 enter. The back door is similarly alarmed with an alternate passcode; 983 asterisk 02 enter, and there are motion sensors on the windows that, thankfully, are manually activated as of an evening. I hope you have good memories."

And with that, Kaori departed, strolling away towards a pub down the road.

Kaori paused at the end of the path, turning around and raising an eyebrow, "Oh? I read substantial amounts of 'bugger off' in your superior's undertones. I wouldn't want to get underfoot, really. Besides. Why would I sit on a front step for half an hour when I could sit in a pub instead?"

The woman raised an eyebrow, "I assume that there's nothing that you *need* me for, of course..?"

"If by 'help' you mean repeat the work that I did two days ago, then by all means." Kaori folded her arms and shrugged. "Why not? It might avoid you treading on my equipment, at least..."

The woman turned around. "Fine then. SIB, was it? I've not worked with your department before, but I've had colleagues who have done. I'm ex-SIS. Security Services."

"It was mainly my partner's choice. We're good friends. She's a little too morally ambiguous on the job even for the SIS -- but she gets the job done, that was why they kept her. She had one argument too many with our superiors and walked out on them. She set up the private hire group a few weeks later, and I decided to join her. We get more varied jobs here too, and they aren't all as stressful."

Kaori shrugged, "It was a change of pace, primarily. I get to do more field work." she said as she followed Tommy inside, "Where shall we start? I have a copy of the floor plan I made in my rucksack."

"I have a lot of experience with floor plans, believe me. It was my job to acquire this sort of intel about places that I couldn't even get into when I was in the SIS." Kaori raised an eyebrow.

"I wonder if she's about to try and go into the bedroom..." the woman murmured absently, counting off in her head the number of steps to the bedroom and waiting for a tell-tale buzzing of the phone she had in her pocket, linked up to a chip in the door handle that alerted her if the door was tried without the code.

"A delightful woman, is your boss." Kaori noted dryly. Waiting momentarily to sling her rucksack around and rummage around for the floor plan, which she unfolded and handed over to Tommy, the woman lazily made her way upstairs, as if haste were wholeheartedly something that happened to other people.

"But of course, Agent Retna." she said sweetly, strolling down the hallway and tapping in the key, slinging the door open. The room was average as far as bedrooms went -- apart from the security system in the closet. An array of computer screens providing views from security cameras both upstairs and down, allowing for intruders to be identified from a safe location, and for irrefutable evidence of breaking and entering. Along with that was a 'panic button' -- the twins of which were in the kitchen area and the living room on the ground floor, that immediately alerted Kaori's headquarters to a threat.

"Will that be all..?"

"Should that be a direct quote or a paraphrase?" Kaori inquired politely, tilting her head. "I suppose I'll improv." she added with a shrug, turning on heel and making her way downstairs.

"I suppose you heard that?" Kaori inquired, "She was quite loud. I doubt I'll need to repeat her."

"On the upside," she noted, "She did compliment your lack of being overweight. Possibly. In some vague sense of reality."

"It's easy when you can actually see what you're planning out. Going by security footage and scans is more difficult." Kaori shrugged, "Walk in the park, or more accurately, in the house, really."

Seeing as Romanae was occupied upstairs, Kaori took it upon herself to carry on with her work, kneeling down next to the motion sensor she had been installing and finishing off the process. "Have you met the policewoman yet?" she asked.

Kaori Walker couldn't help but think that holding a handgun in one's sleep wasn't exactly good for the health of other people in the room.

The ex-SIS agent was, unlike Tommy, wide awake and sat in the kitchen area with her laptop placed on a bar-like breakfast table, whiling away the hours messing with data and chatting on the web. Not on anything like a roleplay site, though, that would've just been sad. No, Kaori instead spent her time communing with a tightly knit group of hackers.

Oh, and kicking ass at Starcraft 2. But that was secondary.

But somehow, the overarching issue of Tommy's handgun was taking overall priority. Kaori sighed and slipped from her seat to walk over to him, pondering the best way to remove the weapon from his grip without spooking him enough to panic and fire it...

Kaori Walker raised an eyebrow. Now that really wasn't healthy. He'd end up shooting himself! And how the hell would she explain *that* to his bitch of a commander?

"Oh, yeah, he rolled over in his sleep and shot himself!"

Mind, she did have security cameras. Still, it probably wasn't worth the drama...

Kaori extended a leg and poked Tommy with a toe, to test how deeply he was sleeping. If she was lucky, he wouldn't even start and pull the trigger.

"You might want to not shoot yourself." Kaori said, "So don't squeeze your fingers. Are you hearing me? Hello? God dammit."

The woman ran a hand through her hair, and considered. He didn't seem like a jerky person waking up, that might do something stupid like shoot weapons. But then, he didn't really seem like a person who woke up at all if he could avoid it.

"...Tommy?"

When Tommy jerked up with the weapon, Kaori decided that she wasn't going to take the risk that he was about to shoot her on reflex.

Her hand shot out to grab the bleary agent's wrist and twisted it back, stepping to the side to pull his arm around into such a position that dropping the gun would seem like a *really* attractive option.

"It's me, you snoring twit! Now calm down and have a cup of coffee. I don't feel like having a gun pointed at me twice in one stake out."

"Now that you're not about to shoot me, then I'd be more than glad." Kaori said, rolling her eyes. "Nice reflexes, though." she added as she stepped away, shaking her head.

"You were sleeping on top of the gun. I was thinking I should probably wake you up before you shot yourself." Kaori said as she walked back over to the kitchen area and flicked the switch on Scot's kettle, setting the water within onto boil.

"Coffee, then? Or are you relying on your unerring devotion to prevent sleep again?" she teased.

"Sure." Kaori raised an eyebrow and chuckled, grabbing a jar of coffee out of the cupboard and making up two mugs of it. She slid one over the bar to Tommy before settling back down onto her stool. She tapped in a few messages (updating her chat-companions about the 'snoring guy on the sofa' and his gun) on the laptop before glancing up at Tommy.

"So what sort of stake-out nights have you done before?" she asked, "Same sort of rap, or is it generally more dramatic? I remember in the SIS the stake-outs tended to be more high octane. We weren't waiting for a creepy stalker type, more for a terrorist, or assassin, or something equally ... unpleasant."

"I wasn't usually a field agent, myself -- though obviously sometimes the situation called for it, or the numbers were needed. That was my partner -- she's the one that would go in guns blazing - metaphorically, because in reality that would just get you killed - and take the 'bad guys' out."

Kaori leant back. "I was -- and usually still am -- the techie."
