History

Born in a brothel out west in the late 1800s, her mother was what most would call a common whore. Both her mother and her had no idea who Payton’s father was or even could be. Her mother, being a natural beauty, however aged from her line of work, was always quite being during Payton’s youth. Being allowed to also stay at the brothel, Payton had to ear her keep, as the Madam would often say. She helped out in the kitchen often and would clean room what seemed like constantly. She did however go to school during the mornings, so she received somewhat of a typical education for that era.

Many of the brothel employees figured when Payton was old enough, she would just become one of the girls and ’earn her keep’ like the rest of them. Old enough was 16. It was shortly after Payton began the family business that she began see what goes on behind closed doors after the sun set.

She was most intrigued by the pale skinned customers that tipped well and usually left the girls a little foggy headed. One night one of these regulars noticed Payton for the first time and immediately questioned Madam about her. Payton was never sure what Madam said to him, but from that point on he was her only customer and apparently paid Madam very well for this unheard of request.

Payton will never forget her first night with. He was tall was skin so pale and smooth she could only compare it to a china doll she had once seen in the store window. His hair, the color of goldenrod, was long and always kept in a neat pony tail at the nape of his neck. His eyes shimmered like aquamarine gemstones. Payton’s heart always skipped twice as fast when ever she looked him in the eye.

Madam gave her the instructions to go up to his usual room and wait while he finished a glass of red wine. Payton waited anxiously perched on the edge of the rail bed. She replayed every conversations she had overheard of the other girls about him and his guests. Thoughts were interrupted by the opening of the door. He stepped inside clad in very fine clothes. Rare silks and fine leather she had never even seen sold in these parts. Giving her a closed mouth grin, he bowed slightly and introduced himself as Alistair.

From that night on she was strictly Alistair’s. On nights he didn’t come, she was made to do nothing but sit in her room reading or sketching. Alistair had been known to spoil her with gifts, but not the typical hair ornament or silk scarf or even jewelry, it was always books or art supplies or silly little trinkets from the far away lands he described many of nights to her. It was only natural that Payton fall in love with him, her exotic savior.

During the longest stretch of time he had spent away from her Madam became very annoyed with Payton’s increasingly cocky attitude and also saw opportunity for more money. She booked Payton to meet with another gentleman for the evening. Of course Payton threw a fit, knowing that Alistair always paid for every night, even if he wasn’t there. Madam was greedy and for that night got her way with Payton. After it was over, Payton laid atop the bed, dress torn, her hair a mess, bruises emerging on her skin. She didn’t cry, she just laid. She felt broken and used and angry.

The very next night Alistair returned only to find Payton in this state. He was furious with Madam and demanded that she give Payton to him. Of course Madam refused, this would mean Alistair’s monthly payment would cease. She swore it would never happen again but Alistair would have none of it. He took Payton away that night. Payton, however, had no reaction to this. She just felt dead inside.

After several days of moping in Alistair’s home, she began piecing together his puzzle. One night she attempted to seduce him. When he declined, she attacked him, beating on his stone chest and calling him a monster. He showed his anger in return , “Yes, I am the monster who saved you, a whore, who would be diseased and possibly dead now if not for this monster!” he yelled as she grabbed her wrists and forced her to look into his eyes.

Tears in her eyes, she begged him, “Please… I want to be like you, Alistair. I want to be strong and beautiful… And… We can be together… I could be your wife.” “Foolish girl.”, he dropped her wrists with much force causing her to collapse onto the floor. “Please Alistair… It’s all I want. I will kill myself tonight if you do not make it happen.” This caused him to turn back at her, fire in his eyes. Her breath caught and she found herself slowly scooting backward in fear. He rushed toward her, too fast, in an instant her was leering over her. “If you wish yourself an eternal damnation, then so be it.”

She realized now, looking back on it, she was a foolish, spoiled, brat of a child. But being the perfect brat she was, Alistair did give her what she wished… and all that came along with it. Alistair was furious with her and with himself after she turned. He did little to help her or instruct her barely even being able to look at her face. Thankfully, there was a few others residing in his household that taught her the ways. She stayed with the small coven for several years, learning what she needed to know and testing her own abilities.

There was nothing unique about her vampire abilities. She has heard of and even seen gifted vampires, but she was not one of these special few. Payton spends her days traveling now. Occasionally settling with fellow vampires that she gets along with, but mostly keeping to herself. She indulges in the modern world’s fine arts and book and even the miraculous and addictive television. She kills when she feels she has to and drinks often. She can drink from someone so quickly and with such care, most will not even know it happened, especially in large dance clubs. She has even came across the occasional ‘freak’ who will let her do it freely with knowledge in exchange for the high.

Either way the point is that she is surviving in the new millennia.

So begins...

Payton Bennett Becoming too restless for her liking, she removed a leather bound sketch book from her bag. She unrolled the leather piece that held her utensils. Choosing a bit of black coal, she propped up her feet on the seat and rested her book on her legs. She began sketching a portrait, glancing around the room as she did taking inspiration of most of the other patrons.

Soon most of her right hand was covered in coal dust as sketched and smoothed lines on her paper. She looked up at the mewing, pulling her out of her trancelike state. She saw a kitty walking away and rubbing a man. She smiled sorry that she missed her.

Payton Bennett Payton strolls into the bar, clad in her usual garb. Her topaz eyes shifted around the room as she approached her usual booth near the back of the bar. She gracefully slid into the seat, sat her bag on the table top and adjusted her worn hat. Leaning back comfortably, she thought about sketching or maybe jotting a few thoughts in her journal. Her eyes swept the room once again before making her decision.

Payton Bennett Gives a small sigh as she opens her bag and pulls out a small sketch book. She shifted in her seat to position herself more comfortably as she rolled out a small bundle with various art utensils tucked inside. Pulling out a single, narrow piece of coal, she glanced around the room again for some quick inspiration. Looking back toward the paper, she slowly began to make an outline.

Payton Bennett Soon Payton was totally absorbed into her drawing. Her hand glided along the paper with fast grace as she filled in and shadowed various portions of the page. Occasionally she would pucker her lips and blow the collecting coal dust from the area. Her fingertips and soon the outer curve of her palm with stained black and dust was piling atop the table. After a few moments of this, her hand stopped abruptly and she gazed down at her work so far.

Payton Bennett Finally she gazed down at her picture in satisfaction. She grinner evilly to herself at what she had created and then flipped the sketch book shut and tucked it back into her bag. She noticed that the tender had sat a drink down for her. She was a usual, but he also knew this wouldn鴠quench any thirst of hers, regardless she took a small sip. As she replaced the glass, she frowned, realizing her hands and fingers were covered in coal dust.

Payton Bennett with heavy, for a un-dead girl her size, footfalls, she came into the bar and strode over to a table with four empty chairs. It had been a while since she graced Gambit's, she didn't remember it being so musically inclined. Frowning her cherry lips, she slid into the slightly uncomfortable chair and waved a hand toward the NPC bartender who brought her a house beer in a tall glass. She contemplated kicked her booted feet up in the next chair, but decided it a little early in the day to be un-ladylike.

Payton Bennett arched an eyebrow as the musician finished his tune. She wan't sure if she should clap, judging some some of the other patrons relieved faces. Instead she took a sip from her tall glass and shifted to find comfort in the wooden chair. Over the top of her glass, she spied around the bar with a lazy gaze.

Payton Bennett as she drained the last of the golden liquid, she shook the thought of being a lady. Propping up her booted feet on the chair across from her and crossing her legs at the ankle. Her pale hand motioned for the tender to refill the glass, which he did promptly. "Thank you." she smiled as she brought the freshly filled glass to her lips once more.

Payton Bennett found herself humming a tune about a little lost dog as she took in her surroundings. It was mostly quiet in the bar with the occasional pitch in conversations about the room. She tuned out most of it as she lost herself in her own private thoughts. Her right bounced in time with her soft humming between her sips.
