Pluto Paris

Sometimes it's hard to let go. You just hold on so tight; You bear the storm till it blows away everything that's you. You live simply because you're too afraid to die.

Description

"I was a day into seventeen when I had to kill for the first time. I had fended it off for a few days, but damn did it hurt. It was like something was gnawing on my insides, all over. Digging it's teeth into anything it could get it's hands on." He gazed at the ring in his hand, digging his teeth into the flat of his bottom lip.

"Cried like a baby after I did it. I got the blood out of my hair, but I couldnt get it out from under my fingernails. I grounded them into a stump trying to pick it out. I had this conversation back then too, cept with myself. I didnt want to die, god, I had a girlfriend. A family. I wanted to go to college. I wanted to have a life. I wasn't ready to give it up; not when I had so much to live for." He gazed upwards, shedding his momentary sympathy.

"Now I just live because I'm too damn afraid of dying. I dont live to live anymore, I live not to die, and you better believe i've done worse than murdering a cop because of it."

So begins...

A figure sat hunched against a corner, hanging beneath intricate arcs and above delicate tile work. A thin sheet of fabric draped over his neck, tassels dragging across his chest. He gazed down at a worn guitar cradled in his lap through orange-tinted lenses. He smiled vacantly as his fingers grazed the copper wires of his guitar.

People came and went, yet Pluto remained. Planted firmly in that lonely corner of the city, he watched as faces flew by.

Pluto slowly rose his hand, nudging the brim of his straw hat up and away. He pulled the glasses from his face, grazing his face with the bottom of his palm. "No sir. I'm not alright."

His lip quivered slightly, as if he was readying to cry; But no. They slowly settled into a smirk as Pluto revealed a few glistening white teeth.

"You're here to help me, aye?"

Pluto managed to get to his feet, grabbing the brim of his hat and pulling it off to reveal a slick, black mess of hair. He ran his free hand through it in waves, eyes tracing over the officer.

The thin keffiyeh draped loosely over his neck twisted violently in the wind, threatening to take flight. The gray t-shirt he wore had a broad rip across one sleeve and was partly entrapped by a worn leather belt. The other half laid feel over his dark jeans that faded into a pair of military issue boots. An array of military tags hung from his neck in varying condition, tapping against each other as the wind forced them together.

He still held the guitar by its neck. "I need a lot sir. I need a lot."

Enzo rose a brow, confusion painted across his expression. It took him a few moments to realize what the man was referring to, reaching up to gather the tags in his palm. He stared at the engraves slabs of metal, releasing a light chuckle before closing his fists over them.

"They ain't mine..."

He peered up.

"Jayden."

Enzo turned until he stood with his shoulder to the man. He gazed out into the vast open, watching as night fell over the city, casting shadows where there once was light.

"They say the most powerful instinct any living thing has is to survive. Some things will do anything; Eat their young, slaughter enemies."

He peered over his shoulder, eyes settling on the man.

"Makes me wonder if this is all justified..."

His head returned to it's original position, fingers tapping against the neck of his guitar. And In a moment, things would change drastically. Pluto turned and swung the tail end of the guitar at Jayden at such a speed that seemed impossible.

Pluto held up the neck of the battered instrument, having snapped during impact; The base of it hanging by a sole copper string.
He lessend the distance between the pair. "Admit your sins. Admit them."

His nostrils flared.

"Tell me why you should die. Tell me" His voice sharpened, fists clenching into tight balls.

He calmed at the mans demand, halting temporarily. He allowed what was left of the make-shift weapon to slip through his finger and drop before him.

He slowly turned his vision towards the gunslinger. "This doesnt involve you."

"It's natural selection. Ain't like I'm the one pulling a gun, fuckin hick."

Pluto stared at the remnants of his instruments. He nudged them softly, yet let his foot rest half way through the rubble.

He turned and quick the shattered guitar towards the bystander. He left his foot continue on, making a full rotation and coming to a halt before Jayden. He proceeded to lean solely on the foot, spinning his second foot towards the boys pistol.

Pluto shuddered at the threat of reinforcements. More exposure was infinitely more dangerous than any weapon, and it would hang heavy over the mans head. He briefly pondered escape, yet it didnt seem likely that either of his two opponents would quickly let this little encounter slide. In addition, his hunger was only growing; He began to smell the boys soul as it whipped around his body.

Pluto grunted, turning towards the armed man and raising his hands into the air. His nostril flared, face plagued with slight ticks. "I give up." He struggled to speak.

The sharp cylinder of metal tore through Pluto's skin, easily breaking through his skull and ricocheting out at an angle. The mere force of the shot snapped his the unarmed man's head backwards, cracking his neck as if it was a toothpick. He fell to his knees, Vacant eyes.

Pluto's eyes had settled, gazing at the moon. "Guess you're not a reckless hick like i thought."

He got to his feet, doing away with the act. He yawn, jaw unhinging as his teeth parted wide. He pulled them back with ease, letting them settle back into place.

"Guess playing dead aint gonnah get passed you."

He opened and closed his mouth, tongue flicking across his cheeks. He chased the piece of bludgeoned steal for a few moments before catching it under his tongue and spitting it out at the cowboys feet.

"You always go round shooting people who've surrendered?"

He turned towards Jayden. "Man's gotta eat, boyo. No hard feelings?" He snickered, flashing a set of bright white teeth. His tongue flicked across the bottom row.

"And you broke my guitar. So lets call it even, aye? Actually. Lemme get a nibble of that soul of yours, then we can call it even."

He turned to face Anzo, placing a finger against the side of one of his gun's barrel and attempting to gently push it away.

"Just cuz it dont kill me dont mean it doesnt hurt like a motherfucker. Put one of those things in me again and ill tare off your finger, and thats a guarantee."

Pluto backed up, throwing on a cool facade, masking the fear building beneath it. "Look boys, no need for this to turn into some big 'ole western shootout. This ain't the wild west. All I was doing was surviving. You cant blame a man for surviving, can yah?"

"How bout we just part ways here, aye?"

Pluto turned his head towards the younger of the pair.

"Look kid, I'm trying to settle this peacefully. You aint gonnah be able to kill me too easily, but Ill take out at least 10 of your guys before you've dealt out so much pain that I slink off into those there bushes. So how b-"

Plutos legs flew out from beneath him, forcing him to fall into the ground and rock violently as metal shards ricocheted throughout his body. He struggled to get his hands beneath him as he rumbled beneath the barrage of fire and steel.

"Y-You bastard, stop it before I turn." He shouted as if he was speaking against a heavy wind.

Pluto sat atop the metal tower, taking rest amidst a bridges support structure. He wasn't too far off the ground, he sat maybe 20 or so feet above the gravel. At such a point, he'd be painfully visible to anyone who passed; Perhaps not the best decision on account of his pursuers. Yet, he remained none the less, boot straps dangling over the water. He gazed out into the abyss that the night had formed, lazily watching the ships that passed. His fingers sat intertwined with one another in his lap, toying with his ring carelessly.

Pluto peered down from his steel sanctuary, smiling lazily as he spotted the officer. " Couldnt tell you. Don't remember much from back then." He looked back towards the water, eyes tracing another boat as it traversed river. "You might aswell put that gun down, kid. I'm not gonnah attack you again. I already fed on the way here."

He pulled the ring from his finger, sliding it into his palm. "Whats your name, anyways?"

Pluto's lips twisted into an expression somewhere between a smile and a frown, shaking he head idly. "He was a vagrant, caught him feeling up some passerby. Did you a favor, you woulda brought him in anyways, cept then it would of been for murder, rape, ect." He slid the ring back over his finger. "Used to only go after guys like that, but eventually they all began to fade into one. Convicts, cops, children; I stopped differentiating them. I gotta eat, I'm the predator and they're the prey. It's how the world works."

He looked back towards him. "Fine, don't put it away, but its not like you're going to be able to take me in. It won't let you, even if I did."

"You think I go around slaughtering people because I enjoy it, kid? Somethings lives inside of me, and its always hungry. Either I feed it, or it gets fed up and starts taking chunks outta me. And in exchange for playing daddy to the sick thing, It keeps me alive."

He whipped his legs over the railing, facing him fully now. "So you can keep pointing your little cannon at me, but I'm sorry if its not on the top of my concerns at the moment."

Pluto paused for a moment, eying the officer carefully. He released his grip on the steel pillar, allowing himself to slide down the colossal support beam. He continued on after the beam came an end, dropping before the boy. He placed his hand over the barrel of the man's weapon "I'm not going to argue with you over the morality of my choices. You've never been in my position, you've never had to kill or be killed. I'm not quite sure if any of what I do is right, I doubt it is, but I'm not going to let you and a bunch of your law-making friends act like you do know; Cuz yah dont."

"It's easier this way. If i just see em as cattle, be they criminals or kids; I've been done crying over corpses for a while now."

With that, he quickly stepped up and onto a railing, back towards the officer. "Sometimes I miss these kinds of things. I miss being able to just look at something and bask in it's beauty. I guess it's not as easy to appreciate something you've convinced yourself doesnt exist."

"Well, I guess we can't have that" Pluto took one final look at the vast body of water, now glistening from the light of a slowly rising sun. He spun to face the boy, taking a step down from the railing. He pressed the copper ring far enough down his finger so that It wouldn't be lost amidst the chaos.

He slowly took to his knees, raising his hands over the back of his neck.
