a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by MgeoftheWhtBst

Description

Image

It is quite obvious what this woman does; her profession is worn on her sleeve. Actually, her profession is worn pretty much all over. Her body is tall and slim, covered with quite frankly as little solid pieces of material as possible to still be considered decent. She has several tattoos, tribal markings of all sorts. Her long, auburn hair is entwined with myriad multicolor ribbons that stream behind her as she moves. She carries with her a tambourine, tied with yet more ribbons, that jingles slightly when she walks. Jingles also come from the tall stack of gold bangle bracelets on her left arm, and the anklets with tiny silver bells. She wears a slim circlet around her head, which glitters with an array of gemstones in every hue, set in a rich gold. Her entire ensemble is littered with gold threads, sparkling gems, and sheer fabrics. Never was a poor gypsy so finely outfitted.

Height: 5' 6"

Likes: dancing, being outdoors, a good party

Dislikes: fighting, general evil-doers

Greatest Desire: To find true love and start a family

Greatest Fear: Vampires

Equipment

Weapons: a hidden dagger

Magical Abilities: The ribbons that she wears as a dancer can be turned into her animal guardian: a large gray wolf named Levi

History

The drama began with her parents. Her mother was a gypsy fortune teller, her father was the youngest son of an upstanding member of his small town. Each of them separately lived their life in blissfully ignorant harmony.

But that all changed the day the Caravan came to town.

It was springtime, the flowers just beginning to blossom, his town the first they moved on to after making hold camp for the harsh winters. Never was a springtime romance so passionate, so torrid as their affair, and it was only the beginning.

So it was that he fell deeply in love with the gypsy woman, so deeply that he chose to abandon his home, his family, all he had ever known to be with her. Eventually, he became so close with the gypsies, he could no longer distinguish himself from them. It was this gypsy man that Raelin was born to, the only one she had ever known.

The years of her childhood passed, all typical for a gypsy. Until the day the caravan rolled back up to that same small town...and she met Daralea.

About the time she was twenty, she was having a rather tempestuous love affair with a man from a different caravan that was settled near the same city at the time. Raelin, still naeve and relatively innocent, had no knowledge that he was already wed, nor that the generous gifts he had been showering upon her had not been pilfered from gadje, but his own wife! When her lover finally was caught, the wife (having a typical gypsy temper) decided to curse poor Raelin with the most feared of afflictions: lycanthrope. Though Raelin's wolf form is merely that of an average wolf, no monstrosity seeking human flesh, it is still her most well-guarded secret. No one in the caravan knows of her affliction, and very few outside of it that have encountered her on her unfortunate evenings. She fears for her life if her caravan were to get wind of this knowledge.

Raelin's Ballad
to the tune of The Mummer's Dance by Loreena McKennit

In the springtime of the year
When the trees are crowned with leaves
the gypsies gather in a darkened wood
And there their magic weave

When spirits call the breathless moon
in the blue veil of the night
the shadows of their dreams appear
amidst the lantern light.

We've been dancing all the night
And some time of this day
Now returning back again
from where the gypsies play

Who will go down to those shady groves
and summon the shadows there
to bring the life back to the earth
on the breath of a gypsy prayer

The sounds of the winds seem to fill the wood
and when the fiddler plays
All their voices can be heard
the echoes of old ways

We've been dancing all the night
and sometime of this day
Now returning back again
from where the gypsies play

And so they linked their hands and danced
'round in circles and in rows
And so the journey of the night descends
when all the shades are gone.

A sign of life we bring you here
A trust in your command
Here's a sprout, well budded out
The work of Mother's hand.

We've been dancing all the night
and sometime of this day
Now returning back again
from where the gypsies play

So begins...

Her emerald eyes scanned the bar, a brow raising at all the..erm...strange goings-on. She made her way quickly to the bar and slid herself onto a stool, her body posture broadcasting a rather nervous woman. She cleared her throat, attempting to get the attention of any bartenders that may be present. It was unlikely, however, that anyone was going to hear her above the din.

Motoko> "Hm?" She turns her head toward the sound of a woman's voice, and her gaze meets Motoko's. "Oh, hello." She smiled tenatively. I'm quite well, and yourself?" She shifts uncomfortably in her seat.

"My name is Raelin." She tips her head slightly in greeting, several pieces of jewelry jangling as she moved. "Uh, thank you. And no, I'm sorry. I'm not much of an artist. These are pretty old."

"I'm just a traveller, passing through. I needed a place to stay for the night, and in my experience, most bars are inns as well. Convenient that way."

She blinks, not quite knowing what to say to the rather..forward invitation. "Well...thank you." She forced as sweet a smile as she possibly could, though the unfamiliar surroundings still made her clearly uncomfortable.

She fishes out a bottle from behind the bar, since it's quite obvious there was no tender at this particular watering hole. She poured herself a glass and took a long swallow before she spoke again. "I don't suppose you know of any people or places that require an extra employee, do you?"

The dance made her way to the bar, jingling softly with every step. She reached over and grabbed a large decanter of something- what it was she could not say, but certainly it would do. With the bottle in hand, she made her way to a table nearby the hearth that such establishments seemed required to have. A warm fire and warmer drink..perhaps only warm company was missing.

A woman enters, slowly at first. Her steps are deliberate, methodic. Her eyes are closed, but she seems to have little problem navigating her way through the room. She jingles softly with each step, and the reasons are obvious. A stack of bangles on her wrist, anklets with tiny silver bells, and a tambourine in her hand. She is a beauty, deep auburn hair falling carelessly down her back, entwined with myriad multicolor ribbons that float behind her as she walks.

Her steps became a little quicker, and a little more rhythmic. She began to sway a little, and slowly raised the tambourine over her head. She twirled, once, twice, the billowy skirt she wore doing exactly as it was designed to, raising ans swirling around her body like ripples in the water. Some unheard music was driving her movements, and so she flowed into a dance.

Raelin Ballard The gypsy entered in a blaze of sparkle and color, twirling 'round and 'round, until she found herself smack in the middle of the establishment. The ribbons that adorned her hair and clothes followed her spin in a graceful, streaming rainbow. The tambourine shook, keeping a quick, lively beat as her body flowed to unheard music.

Raelin Ballard Indeed it was. As were the stack of gold bangles on ger wrist and the silver bells on her ankles. Still she moved, mostly in wide, sweeping motions. Up, down, in circles...she was as talented as she was beautiful. Her auburn hair flowed in perfect harmony with her dance, the colorful ribbons and several twinkling jewels in her clothes made for quite a show.

Milo> The woman smiled at him kindly while keeping up her dance. "Raelin," she answered simply, her focus obviously taken up by the motion that flowed through her form.

Milo> The dancing stopped momentarily, she wouldn't like to be rude. The smile persisted on her face and in her gentle green eyes. "I would be honored, sir." She bowed to him deeply, and then struck up a beat with the bells on her ankle. It was light, joyful...like a spring day. Her arms slid into movement, slow and deliberate.

The beat quickens slightly, and with it her movements. Every motion seems to well up from her heart and flow out through her hands and feet. She was quite a sight, glittering gems and colorful ribbons, as though she were a living painting, color and emotion swirling in real time.

The gypsy's garments floated effortlessly with her, like watching ripples in a pond. Her body moved lithely, muscles rippling with a toned athleticism that did not seem to detract from her inherent feminity. Slight beads of sweat were forming at her brow, adding somewhat to the overall glitter of her spirited performance.

Eventually, her movements slowed, and she ended with a flourish, striking a pose as her tambourine clashed for a final note. She stood still a moment, her torso heaving heavily as she concluded her dance. A slight line of sweat trailed down the side of her face, but her smile was huge. A way to make a living, perhaps; but it was infinitely clear that this woman quite loved to dance.

She lets her posture fall, and bows slightly at the appreciative audience, no matter how small it might have been. "A drink would be quite ideal." Her voice had an ever-so-slight lilt to it, perhaps from the British Isles of Earth. She led the way toward the bar and seated herself upon a stool, still slightly breathless from the exertion.
