Sangrei Friedn

"Hey. Ya need somethin?"

322 views · last seen in Gambit's Bar
a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by HitoriRaven

Description

Sangrei is about 25 years old, and has silver-white hair, cropped short. His eyes are dark turquoise and he stands at about 6 feet tall, but tends to slouch a bit when walking, making him look shorter than he actually is. His body has various scars, mostly nicks and scratches which still left a mark. His most prominent is a healed gash stretching from his left shoulderblade to the middle of his back.

Personality

He's a fun-loving, adventurous and in general nice guy. He's also a huge flirt and prefers crowded places. Sangrei would never describe himself as brave, and tries not to get involved in dangerous situations, but finds himself getting involved nevertheless.

In a fight, his demeanor is more serious. He becomes more analytical and cold, the mindset of a fighter with intent to kill. However, he also has self-restraint, aiming to injure only while intentionally overestimating all his opponents. He will usually try to stop fighting if the other person is about to get heavily wounded or killed.

No matter which way he is, Sangrei tries to uphold his own code of honour. He will never run from a fight that he has engaged in. He will never let a person die by his hands - one of the reason he gets involved in so much trouble; he applies the good samaritan rule. Finally, he'll never go back on his word. He realizes that it is a code that is cliché and a bit dated, but he follows it anyway.

Equipment

The only things that Sangrei carries at all times is his sword, Stahl Schmertz. Stahl Schmertz is a steel broadsword, standard issue from the army Sangrei used to be in. It has seen its share of wear and tear, and has been reforged a couple times. He refuses to abandon the sword out of sentimental value, and it hasn't given up -
yet. Stahl's scabbard carries the weight of his allies; whenever Sangrei loses a friend, he tears a strip of cloth from their clothing and adds it to the wrapping around the sheath.

The only special talent Sangrei has is his sword-fighting training. His is a bit unorthodox, his self-taught style making him unpredictable and wild. His training to overcome his lack of a mentor has made Sangrei slight faster than a normal person, and also stronger.

*added
It looks like she has a silver spiral in his left pupil, the sign he holds an Echo crystal within him. This power allows him to:
Slows the passing of time mentally for a brief period of time - the equivalent of an adrenaline rush.
Allows Carrier to draw on Echo Energy for enhancement, assault, or defense.
Allows Carrier the ability to read the memories of the past.

History

Sangrei rarely tells his full past to anyone. He will only tell a short version to anyone who is not a close friend. Sangrei was a young boy who was drafted into a war. It was there he picked up his battle skills. He survived the war - his side lost - but in the final battle, his sword broke and he was forced to watch his allies slaughtered. In anger and regret, he was forced to grab his best friend's sword and run. Since then, he has been a mercenary, but quit after he obtained enough money get by. Now, he travels around seeing and exploring the world.

Sangrei walked into the bar, ignoring the commotion that was dying down outside. He sat down, and motioned to the bartender. "Hey bartender, a beer, please. Whatever's local." As he payed for his beer and took a sip, he made sure that his right hand was within reach of one of his two swords, Joyeuese, the rapier. As he gulped down the rest and set the mug down, he took a look around at the people in the building, making sure to pay special attention to the women.

As the bartender gave Sangrei his whiskey, he took a quick sip, and looked back to Iason. "Oh, I'm sorry. I guess I haven't introduced myself properly. I'm Sangrei Friedn. I heard your name when you walked in, and thought you looked like a regular who would know the place well." Upon closer inspection of the man, he noticed something. "Are you blind, perhaps?"

Sangrei Friedn chuckled a bit. "I guess you caught me. I don't exactly know how I came across your name. But back to my question. You come here a lot?" He tilted his head towards Iason. "Cause I honestly don't know what's goin on here." At this, Sangrei took another look around to confirm his statement.

Despite knowing the man couldn't see, Sangrei grinned a bit at Iason's words. "I see. Well, I'm really looking for anything to do, but to me, the ladies are important." He figured he should thank the man for his conversation and gave a small wave to the bartender. "Next one for this man's on me." He pointed to Iason.

Sangrei Friedn scratched his head a bit. "Well, I won't bore you with my past, but the recent version is that I was a mercenary, now I'm just traveling around. I figured, ey, why not stop in a famous city like this?"

"Well, you're now you're just blocking me on purpose." Sangrei threw his hands up in false exasperation while smiling. "What else am I supposed to do here? There's no women, there's no fun..sheesh."

"Well, now you're really depressing me." Sangrei slid his glass towards the inside of the bar and also turned to face the rest of the people. "Hey, you can't just ruin someone's fun like that without compensation. Got any recommendations for somewhere to go?"

Sangrei laughed as Iason spoke to the bartender. "That was a low blow, my friend. But to be quite honest, I would enjoy something like that right about now.

"That's a shame. I guess I'll stick around a bit longer, see if anything happens. You mind the company?" Sangrei settled into his seat and positioned himself to get a good view of anything that might happen.

"I wouldn't call this commotion 'not action' exactly...but I take your point. But hey, your definition of crazy bitches include the men here too?" Sangrei's eyes flickered to the barkeep. "Looks like he is having some problems. Wonder what's goin on there."

Sangrei nodded knowingly to Iason, running a finger down the scar on his right cheek. "Tell me about it, man. Problems, no kidding." Spotting the newcomer, Sangrei gave a quick two-fingered salute to Iason, hopped over the bartable and walked down to the woman, smiling. "Hey there, can I get you something? The bartender's busy over there. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if I took his job for a bit."

Sangrei grinned at the woman. "Sure, one vodka, coming right up." He grabbed a glass and filled with a nearby bottle while also pouring himself a glass. "Hey..." He gave the woman - maybe a few years older than him - a look over. "I'm new in town, but I feel as though I've seen you before, Miss...?"

"I guess that wasn't very polite of me," Sangrei laughed. "My name's Sangrei, like I said, I'm a traveler who just happened to walk in." He offered her one of the glasses and raised his. "A toast to our meeting?" This woman certainly looked like she had some background, and he always enjoyed meeting interesting or mysterious people. As long as it didn't get him killed, that is.

He watched Arianne drink a fair amount of her vodka before taking his own sip. He swilled the liquid in his glass, remembering how much he had already drank. "Nice to meet you as well, Arianne. Looks like you're enjoying that quite a bit. And now that you mention it, I do enjoy good company. Being on the road alone can get a bit dull."

Sangrei had served in war, and while he hadn't done things he was proud of, had picked up a few habits. He carefully watched her face and noticed her eyes flickering towards the street He gestured in the general direction of it. "Is there something that you're worried about over there?"

Sangrei raised an eyebrow in worried. She spoke normally, but he still felt as though she was still nervous. "I understand what you're saying. People find...ways...to bother you. And I agree with you on your point of technology." He raised his two swords. "I know there are guns, but I still prefer my rapier, Joyeuese, and dear friend Stahl Schmertz, a broadsword."

He continued watching Arianne's face for any hint of what exactly was happening. Sangrei was definitely sure that something was happening, and his left hand instinctively reached for Stahl Schmertz.

"So..you wanna tell me what's going on outside there? That car seems a bit suspicious." He downed the rest of his vodka, and peered out the window.

Sangrei reluctantly took his hand off of the handle, but grinned a bit and bowed his head. "If you say so, I'll take your word for it." He looked in the direction of the TV, a bit surprised. Was that Arianne's name that he heard through the cacophony of the bar? Couldn't be..

He tapped the bottle of vodka with a finger. "Care for a refill? You sound a little bitter at whatever or whoever's out there. Old acquaintance?" He thought of his own "friends" and chuckled quietly.

"Of course, of course." Sangrei poured them both some more vodka before tipping the rest of the bottle's contents into his mouth. In case she was going to say something, he interjected, "It was almost gone. I'll cover the cost." He smirked a bit, but the TV had finally caught his attention. He stared at the screen with confusion and interest. "Is that...you..up there?"

In one swift movement, Sangrei swallowed the rest of the liquor in his glass, plunking it down. He popped the top off of a bottle of whiskey. "Care for some?" He poured himself a shot, and was reminded of having a drink with his friends during the war. He unconsciously started to fiddle with the handle of Stahl Schmertz, but snapped out of it, realizing that Arianne was still there. "Trivial, huh? Well, I haven't heard any of this. What's it all about?" He leaned in a bit, giving her his full attention. "C'mon, humour me. I won't judge."

"I'm sorry for confusing you; I meant after you're done with that glass." Sangrei tapped his forehead in a apologetic manner. He noticed her stool move, and one near him do the same, but didn't pay it much attention. After all, weirder had happened before. "Drinking games, eh? I vaguely remember those with my company. I'm sure they're not the same as the ones right now, but I think I got the idea." Sangrei noticed the TV's channel change, but ignored it. He was determined to press a bit more for his answer, and hear it from the horse's mouth, so to say. "When you're on the road as much as I am, you don't pick up a lot of news. But hey, if it's no big deal, then why don't you tell me about it?" He raised an eyebrow and gave an inquiring grin.

Sangrei poured some gin down his throat before answering in a reminiscing tone, "Undergrad, huh? I never got past high school because they drafted me.." At her next statement, he grimaced a bit. "Now, as for the government...don't like 'em. For the same reason I didn't finish school. Damned war.." He inclined his head towards her respectfully. "No offense intended. I dunno if it's different here." He sighed a bit as he noticed a small "thing" moving towards them.

He could only describe it as a "thing." It looked similar to an old man crossed with a machine. He wasn't quite sure what it was, and even his time at Gambit's had not prepared him for this. Sangrei's eye twitched a bit as he looked towards Arianne. "The hell is this thing? You know it? It know you? In fact...does it have something to do with the car outside?"

Sangrei listened carefully to Brains' explanation. "So is that what happened, that you didn't want to tell me?" His tone softened a bit, but not to the point of sympathy - someone like Arianne probably wouldn't appreciate it. At this point, the information was a bit much, so Sangrei washed it down with his glass of gin, pouring himself some more. Gonna hurt in the morning...oh well.

At Brains' cheeky quip, he turned to the little robot, giving an evil grin and reaching for Joyeuese the rapier. "Organic or not - Brains, was it? - I would watch your lip, unless you like being skewered on orichalcum." He tried to have a little fun, but Sangrei couldn't help noticing the woman who had entered earlier, and who seemed to be watching Brains. "Hey, Brains. That woman over there. What's up with her?" He avoided looking directly at her, and whispered this quietly, hoping that the robot could hear at a lower noise level.
