Battleship
Image

Battleships are truly massive starships, equipped with enormous numbers of weapons and potent Void Shields, and usually serve as the flagship for an Imperial Lord Admiral, though this is not always the case. Although very powerful, Battleships are slow and cumbersome to manoeuvre. The Imperial Navy employs three main classes of Battleship: the Emperor (which can carry an immense amount of Attack Craft in addition to its normal weaponry),the Victory (known for its heavy Lance batteries) and the Retribution (which is noted for its powerful broadside firepower and its large number of torpedo tubes). The Battleships of Battlefleet Armageddon are based on the older Apocalypse and Oberon-classes. Other Segmentae's battlefleets may rely on yet other starship classes, but the Emperor and more recent Retribution-class vessels are by far the most common Battleship classes in the Imperial Navy. Imperial Battleships can have crews of anywhere between 25,000 to 3,000,000 men or more depending on the source consulted, including large numbers of Imperial Navy armsmen (marines in modern parlance) to defend against enemy boarding assaults. Battleships can be up to 8 kilometres from prow to stern and displace billions of tons. Because they represent such a vast expenditure of resources to construct and require a fairly advanced technical base to maintain, Battleships are typically constructed only in the largest Imperial shipyards in orbit of the major Adeptus Mechanicus Forge Worlds. These vessels are precious assets of the Imperium and are carefully husbanded, usually employed in only the larger fleet formations and the most critical engagements.

For the Imperial Navy officer class (admirals, captains, commanders, first lieutenants, etc.) on board, an entire section of a large Battleship's command deck may be divided into huge, luxurious staterooms, with vast bedrooms, offices and wardrobes, bathrooms and toilets mirroring those of an Imperial Planetary Governor's palace, and even harems of concubines and handmaidens. Lower-class bridge officers and chief petty officers would have fairly large, moderately luxurious quarters, and the armsmen, mid-class crewmen and petty officers would all have decent accommodation, generally consisting of a sleeping area, chemical toilet and storage locker. However, the bottom-class enlisted conscripts and slave ratings would have little more than a flea-infested sleeping pallet and a single toilet shared between ten ratings.

Grand Cruiser
Image
Grand Cruisers are smaller than Battleships, yet larger than Cruisers. These vessels are usually much older in design and do not incorporate many of the features that are typical in the more current classes of Imperial Navy vessels, like the armoured prow, and are not quite compatible with current Imperial Navy tactical doctrine. As such, many are retired from active duty, but are still used by the Imperial Navy's reserve fleets. The Avenger-class, with its powerful broadside firepower, is one such example of a Grand Cruiser. There are also some modernised versions of Grand Cruisers in active service, but since these are much larger and more heavily-armed than their predecessors, they are more often classed at present as Battleships. These kinds of vessels are usually purpose-built or modified from Battlecruiser hulls and are not commonly encountered in the Imperial Navy.

Cruiser

Cruisers make up the majority of an Imperial Navy fleet. Though not as powerful as a Battleship, Cruisers are much faster and can still deliver a deadly blow. There are multiple classes of Cruiser, most based on the same general hull design but incorporating different combinations of broadside batteries, Lance turrets and Attack Craft hangars. Examples include the all-round, ubiquitous Lunar-class, the Gothic-class with its powerful Lances and the Dictator-class Attack Craft carrier. Cruisers can carry a crew complement of anywhere between 10,000 and 1,000,000 crewmen (including Imperial Navy armsmen and military police squads), depending on the sources consulted. While Cruisers are still particularly technologically complex, it is not uncommon for them to be constructed on smaller Forge Worlds or any Civilised World that has an orbital shipyard suitable for constructing vessels of their large size. Of particular note was the Lunar-class Cruiser Lord Daros, constructed in orbit above the Feral World of Unloth in 11 Terran years by relying on the forced labour of most of that planet’s population for materials.

A note on Imperial warship classes: while naval warships can be defined along a fairly limited number of classes based on weapon configurations approved by the Adeptus Mechanicus, the physical form these vessels take varies widely throughout the Imperium. For example, a Lunar-class Cruiser constructed above Cypra Mundi in the Segmentum Obscurus may bear little resemblance to a Lunar-class Cruiser constructed above Kar Durniash in the Ultima Segmentum and even less so to a Lunar constructed among the vast shipyards of Mars' Ring of Iron. Nonetheless, they will all have roughly the same operating characteristics and weapons configuration, and thus can be easily serviced by any orbital facility throughout Imperial space.

Note there are also classes of Battlecruisers. Although based on a hull-design that is similar to the regular Cruiser types, these starships are generally somewhat larger and more heavily armed, incorporating more advanced power distribution systems capable of supporting Battleship-grade weaponry in a Cruiser hull. A notable example is the Mars-class Battlecruiser, with its fighter bays, broadside batteries, dorsal Lance turrets and an immense, prow-mounted Nova Cannon capable of attacking targets at extremely long range.

A subset of the Cruiser type is the Light Cruiser. These warships fall in size between Cruisers and Escorts, mixing the firepower and durability of the former with the speed and manoeuvrability of the latter. The Dauntless-class is a very common Light Cruiser class in the Imperial Navy. Extremely self-sufficient, it is fast and has enough firepower to be a threat to Escorts and larger capital ships alike. There are other classes of Light Cruiser in common use in the Imperial Navy, most notably the Endeavour-class, which serves in varied forms and hull types throughout the Imperium. Light Cruisers are a fairly common warship class, for they are relatively simple to construct for a capital ship, and they are uniquely suited for reconnaissance patrols and for ensuring a presence where their speed and manoeuvrability are an advantage, and where having a larger number of smaller hulls allows the Imperial Navy to monitor a wider area of space.

Ironclad

Ironclads, much like their contemporary Imperial Navy counterparts, the Battleships, are vast, 8-kilometre-long vessels which lack the Void Shielding of their Battleship counterparts in favour of metres of adamantium plate armour. These warships, built before the advent of Void Shield technology, have since been phased out of production by the Imperium to be replaced by more modern designs. However, those remaining in service have been recommissioned for a variety of purposes; various pattern Ironclads may be retrofitted with a gargantuan, ship-, station- and even planet-killer cannon running the entire length of the ship's keel, linked directly to the stern fusion reactors; others may simply be braced and reinforced for the purpose of ramming into -- and through -- enemy vessels. These starships are rare in the Imperial Navy, due to their archaic design and the lack of facilities still capable of repairing them at existing Forge Worlds, let alone manufacturing new ones.

Escort Ship

Escort ships are the smallest type of warship in the Imperial Navy's fleets, found in two distinct sub-classes. The larger of the two sub-classes of Escorts are Frigates, which are better armed and more heavily armoured than other Escorts. Destroyers are generally smaller than Frigates, but they are by far the fastest and most manoeuvrable interstellar warships employed by the Imperial Navy. They are usually organised in squadrons of 2 to 6 vessels and will always operate as a group or "wolf pack." The main task of Escorts is to serve as a screen for capital starships against enemy torpedoes and Attack Craft so that they can get into position more quickly and safely. They are also employed behind the gun line to finish off enemy Cruisers that have been damaged so that the larger vessels can concentrate on the most dangerous capital ship threats in an enemy formation. Most Escort classes specialise in a certain role, such as the Cobra-class torpedo boat Destroyers or the Firestorm-class Frigate with its armour-piercing prow-mounted Lance. Escorts are normally not more than 1.5 kilometres in length, with Destroyers generally being only 750 metres to 1.5 kilometres from prow to stern.

  1. Edit needed: Largest ship is 5KM

"Admiral, unknown ships in force arriving in the sector. Scans read the enemy fleet's largest ship is 3KM long sir. Orbital platforms are arming weaponry and the fleet in preparing weapons. Issuing hails sir." A crewman spoke as he, along with possibly one million souls began to power up the gargantuan 8KM battleship arming Void Shields and weapon batteries.

Not only that, but perhaps 75 other ships ranging from 2KM long to 8KM long all were prepared to engage the enemy fleet if neccecary

"Attention unknown fleet, This is Battlefleet Terran of Terra. This is the 'Halberd Of Faith' and we have picked up a massive force belonging to your fleet. State your purpose immediately, any attempts to stall or divert the conversation will be met with lethal force." The Admiral would either appear on any holofeild projector they had or through regular vocal communication.

The great Imperial Naval Fleet was an awe striking sight for many. Gargantuan ships that appeared made for the sole purpose of war. Each ship decorated with the Imperial Eagle and the massive Star ports served as massive defensive batteries. Every single aspect of this fleet just oozed war. Possibly from the many battles each ship suffered.

Of course the weaponry of the ships seemed similar to some forces they recently encountered. "Admiral, some reports say that some of their weapons are similar to a previous fleet that recently engaged other Imperial assets awhile ago. However their make, and design are highly different. I advise caution Admiral" A crewman reported.

Kinara stood and answered the hail, her face appearing in either a hologram or on the screens in the bridge, looking to the Admiral. "Battlefleet Terran, this is Kinara, Jedi Commander of the Grey Battalion, on the Obsidian Eagle. Our purpose is to aide in the protection of Terra and her assets, as well as establish a base of operations from which to operate ourselves in a professional manner." She stated.

"We have no intention of attacking or incurring the wrath of the Imperium, we may outnumber you, but you are far more experienced in the art of War, we wouldn't stand much of a chance." She added. "As stated before, we wish to aide in the defense of Terra, not attack it." She said.

Her voice was calm, and exact. She could sense the willingness to decimate her fleet in his voice and stature, and though she would last long enough to get away, she'd sustain heavy damage. She waited for a response, hoping it would be positive.

For a moment the figure remained silent however the man quickly spoke up looking at her figure through their holo display. "Understood Kinara. For now your intentions are considered friendly for the time being. However we are the shield of this planet, we shall transfer this communication to a figure with the power to grant your request." The man soon swapped frequencies so she did not heave to hear the unnecessary chatter.

"Lord Dorn, my apologies but a force known as the Grey Battalion wish to establish a base on Terra. If you wish to spare some time I have the communication ready to transfer at any time." The Admiral spoke in another transition before a voice replied. "Understood Admiral. I can negotiate with this Grey Battalion. Transfer the communication when ready."

In a minute the figure of the Admiral was replaced by a massive man cladded in yellow power armor. He was perhaps ten feet tall with a symbol of a black fist of his chest. "Greeting Kinara of the Grey Battalion. My name is Rogal Dorn, son of the Emperor and primarch to the Imperial Fists chapter of Space Marines. If I have heard you correctly you wish to establish a base of operations on Terra. We see that you wish to help defend the planet but all is known that not everyone tell the truth. What is the purpose of your base? Is it military? Social? Or perhaps spiritual in nature?" The massive man replied. Remaining well postured without any trace of any uneccecary emotion.

Kinara offered a small bow when greeted by Dorn, politeness would aide her in her quest she thought. "Primarch Dorn, The nature of my base is twofold: Primarily, it is a military base, where my soldiers can train, rest, and live off of their ships when they are not being used for their primary purpose. It can also be used as a refugee camp in crisis situations, under the guard of the Grey Battalion's soldiers. Secondarily, it aides in a sort of Spiritual Nature. I have an sensitivity to something known as The Force, you and your Emperor are strong in this Force...though you may know it by another name. Terra in and of itself is strong in the Force, I wish to use the comfort of a secure base to meditate, and gain enlightenment through it. I was present in the Wing City Main Gate Incident, it was my abilities in the Force that slowed and calmed the torrent of energies coming from that poor woman who exploded." she explained.

"That rift is still there, If allowed, I would like to build a monument around the rift, one that would allow it to breathe, but not allow those who shouldn't be touching it to do so. However, that is a personal matter." She added. She couldn't read him as easily as the Admiral, but he was strong in the Force, it radiated off of him like a reactor.

"That is my purpose, Primarch. Do I have your consent?"

"Under our normal circumstances allowing an unknown force station a base in the city would be inconvivable where we came from. However, due to new events we do not have any reason to turn you down. Just ensure you keep your military presence low, we will allow you to gather arms, vehicles and weaponry. However do not expand too big without consulting with us. Another note, some people on the planet follow the Imperial Cult. We ask that you must never disgrace the Emperor's name. Other than that, if you are going to protect this planet then we of the Imperium welcome you to Terra. You are free to enter into the planets orbit now." Dorn nodded his approval and soon the weapons of the Imperial Navy began to power down to give them some ease of comfort knowing they were not going to have a space battle. Of Course Dorn had a question of his own.

"I do have one question Kinara of the Grey Battaltion. Do you by chance know of other fleets that use your design of weaponry? We once had Imperial assets under heavy attack by three unknown forces. One fleet in particular had similar weapon designs to what we have seen from your fleet. I ask because many Imperial lives were lost and we were hoping to find some answers which may lead us to whoever attacked us." Dorn asked. By no means was he insisting on the issue of course.

Upon being given permission to build their base, which would come to expand to outside the city for the most part, allowing for optimum usage of Wing City's grounds for the civilians, the fleet began to move as one, and the main hangars of each Venator opened. From every hangar in the fleet, every Transport and heavy Transport began their approach towards their projected base site. They were escorted by ten squadrons of Shadow Wing fighters, and went down to the planet's surface to begin while the fleet slowly entered orbit and turned to face away from the planet, to aide in its defense.

Kinara was about to switch off communications when Dorn spoke again, she looked up to his holographic image and tilted her head, thinking for a few seconds. "Before I left, I encountered something similar to which you speak. They call themselves the Sith, or have "Sith" somewhere in their name." She said. Their dreadnoughts are of an ancient design, and though by today's standards they are old, they can prove to be a significant threat." she explained. She paused for a moment, reading Dorn's expression.

"However, if those were not the ships you encountered, I have a friend who is an expert in building ships. I could contact her, and ask to give both of our forces council on how to quickest defeat these ships." she added. "She built my fleet, and is building another mighty addition that will dwarf even my Flagship." she sighed, and pushed a few buttons on her console. "I will send the plans for my own ships and for other ships I have encountered in my travels, so that you may study them and find weak spots to target once you get past their shields. This is all I can do besides assist in defense if and when they attack again." she smiled, and nodded.

"If that will be all, I will take my leave to oversee the construction of my base, which will be primarily outside the City walls, but just barely expand to the inside." she gave a bow, and ended her side of the transmission.

Dorn nodded as he received her reply. He had no more questions to ask and cut the communications feed. With that, the Imperial fleet returned to its standby duty wathing over Terra for any sign of hostiles.

Roughly 500,000 kilometers from Terra's high orbit, just beyond the Imperium's defensive perimeter and slightly off the formation of Grey Order vessels, several distortions could be detected as roughly a dozen ships winked into existence.

One of them was the Reverence II "Solemn Penance" which bore obvious markings of the United Aschen Empire. Completing its jump the ship found itself among several of its escorts. Specifically two Iconoclast class Battleships, two Punisher class Battleships, eight Hastati class cruisers and roughly a dozen Vigiles class escort destroyers, additionally the fleet was protected by a formation of Imperial Aegis cruisers, which would supplement the defenses of the reverence II.

Temporarily attached to the Solemn Penance, Admiral Éclaire Hanley would be in charge of the entirety of the planned operation.

With the anticipation the Imperium ships would shoot first, immediately upon exiting FTL, a massive canopy shield enveloped the small group, along with a Planck field to prevent boarders from teleporting aboard, a hard lesson learned from the Aurora incident.

With the shimmering aegis field up, capable of withstanding a sustained barrage from even the mightiest of weapons, the Aschen fleet settled into position, and waited to be hailed.

"Admiral! Energy signatures detected. They are the same as the forces that attacked Imperial assets." A crewman spoke as the Imperial Navy was arming weapons again. "I want a communication transmition to the enemy fleet!" The Admiral spoke as the crewman instantly nodded.

"Attention! You are now entering Imperial space hostiles. Turn around immediately or face destruction in the Emperor's name." The admiral hailed the enemy ship. In ten seconds the whole Imperial Navy armed with Lance Batteries, Heavy Macro bombardment cannons and long ranged torpedo's were now trained on the Aschen ships.

"You have much nerve to show your face to us after you dare strike at us. Give us one reason why we should not condemn you all to die and be done with it instead of letting you go free." The Fleet Admiral spoke as the ships Nova Cannon was aimed right at the center of their fleet.

"Defensive formation Foxtrot! Medical Ships and Tartans to the surface, oversee Base Construction." Kinara barked as the Grey Battalion ships formed with those of the Imperium. The Venators all formed the rear of the formation, the Two medical ships and four Tartan Patrol Cruisers continuing forward to the planet's surface. The Obsidian Eagle, the 5KM flagship of her fleet, was in the center of the formation, with the Venator Class Star Destroyers around her in a Heptagonal protective sphere. The Main hangars atop the ships slid open, and pilots readied the fighters and bombers. The Sabre Class Star Destroyers, newly made and upgraded to be more than double their original size, formed the bulk of the fleet, forming an anti-capital ship screen with what appeared to be only eight Super Heavy Turbo Laser Batteries at the ready, however, something was off about them.

The Point Defense of the fleet was weakest at the very front, however, every meter further into the formation would prove more and more difficult to navigate, and the level of Point Defense upped itself massively with the Venators and Obsidian Eagle, as well as the Acclamators. At Kinara's word, the entire fleet would begin firing, but for now, everything was silent.

Pressing a button on her chair, a claw came from the ceiling and picked it up, giving her mobility over the bridge. She moved to a large hologram projector, which projected hers, the Imperium's, and the Aschen fleets all clearly. "Fucking hell...." she grumbled. She opened comms to her fleet. "Grey Battalion this is Kinara." she started.

"Before us is the Aschen fleet. They're big. They're strong. They're smart. But you were bred for war, and if that's what they want, we'll give them one." Kinara spoke. "All ships await my command, let's hope this doesn't turn into a shit storm." she called back the fighters she'd sent to the planets surface, and they turned around, set to return in a few minutes.

The tension could be cut with a butter-knife, let alone a Lightsaber.

The CIC of the Solemn Penance was quiet as Admiral Hanley listened intently to the transmission, slowly cantering her head in slight confusion at two alien fleets that the empire had little contact with.

With a swift gesture, she keyed up the tactical display, a large holographic projection showing the three fleets shimmering before her, showing movements and tactical formations in real time, along with highlighted tactical suggestions and energy readouts.

Sweeping her hand she zoomed in, manipulating the hologram, and then panning back out.

"Hostile?" She asked herself, before querying the datalink with both ship designs, searching the logs of every ship in the aschen fleet for engagement reports, of which there was only one remotely close match.

"Hmm..." Hanley said. "There are contact reports here from the Navo Vasta Solitudine... entered by Admiral Clegg; but there's no engagement reports here, weapons were readied but not fired, the fleet observed and engagement between these ships and and two unidentified alien fleets, later identified as the Sith Empire and the 6th Order..." Hanley mumbled.

Keying up the communication, Hanley spoke, her voice firm yet her words clear as they rang across a wide band communications frequency.

"Vessels of the Imperium of Man, this is Admiral Claire Hanley, of the United Aschen Empires Imperial Defense Force. Be advised our intentions are peaceful, and we have no records of ever attacking vessels of your kind, I've reviewed all contact logs with your people and have found no indication of past engagements." Hanley hailed, looking at the logs.

"Be advised that opening fire will be considered an act of war, and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of our military capabilities. However I will reiterate that our intentions here are peaceful, and we will not attack unless provoked." Hanley said calmly.

"I have been sent by my government to discuss a matter of importance to all of us."

Bringing up a data file, she transmitted a video recording of the aschen engagement with the forces of Chaos to the Imperium Fleet, and then continued her message.

"A few days ago one of our patrol fleets were attacked by vessels similar to yours, yet they utilized some form of magic that was beyond our understanding and our fleet was lost, we were hoping you could shed some light on this matter."

Silently she awaited a reply.

"Chaos..." The Admiral muttered watched the footage, their greatest enemy and a great threat to the universe itself. However, this still did not excuse one thing. "You may not have noticed us because we were stuck fighting two fleets...however this may change your thoughts. We recovered data-slates from one of our ships that were destroyed." The admiral sent a feed of the massive space battle from one of the Imperial battleships as it engaged three different fleets with all of its holy firepower. The call to retreat was ordered, however a few remained behind to stall the enemy. And this data-slate was one such ship.

"We have faced this enemy for millennium. Despite your assault on our fleet, it is more wise to share with you all we know about that toe you encountered known as Chaos. Under the Empeor, he has decreed that we keep violence down, and to start negotiating with...aliens..." The Admiral almost spat the last words. But to do so would be heretical under many circumstances since to order came right from the Emperor.

"Chaos only has one goal. Drown the universe in endless war and blood until all life in the universe is estinguished. Wether it be man, woman, child or alien. No one is safe from the assault of Chaos. Chaos serves the Four Gods of Chaos, malevolent being swept that grant their blessings and minions to them. The first thing you should keep wary about is that once you see and engage the forces of Chaos, your very soul is forever tainted which slowly eats away at you. The more you face Chaos, the further the corruption spreads until you start to hear whispers, demonic voices persuading you. No matter how pure you are, or how faithful you are...Chaos will eventually claim you either in life or in death. Thanks to our venerable Emperor he keeps our souls safe from being dragged into the jaws of the Warp."

"The Chaos forces are comprised of fallen Adeptus Astartes, or Space Marines from the days of old. They are genetically enhanced super humans that are worth a hundred men in almost all cases. Other forces have also joined with Chaos being our brave soldiers from the Imperial Guard to millions of other people. Civilian or soldier it matters not. They also use demonic entities from the Warp, from a sacrifice to keeping a portal open to the realm of the warp, these demons under whatever foul God they serve can change the very battle. And with greater demons...their very presence could cause many people to retreat in terror. In any case, enough ordinance will force them back to the Warp but any attempt to truly kill them is only in the hands of our Emperor."

"As we said before, the Warp is like the 'spiritual' world opposite of our own. Warp travel is vastly different from normal means of FTL travel. To start, Warp travel can bypass almost all means of defense and go past physical obstacles making it a 'safe' means of travel. However, Warp based travel is highly dangerious for anyone without a Gellar Feild or an experienced psychic user to navigate the Warp. Warp based technology harnesses the power of the warp wether it come from a person or a warehead that even the mightiest ship would have no match for. The only defense against the Warp is a Gellar Feild. Without it, any planet with shielding will prove useless against stopping the Legions of Chaos for they can bypass it using the warp to enter."

"As for Chaos itself, they can also corrupt anything they with. From flesh or steel to even a planet, their very presence must be stomped out as soon as possible for there is one important thing to note. If you do not stop Chaos forces on a planet in time, it will change into a Demon Planet, in which case any means to actually destroy it will not work as it is now part of the Warp itself. Keep that in mind that no matter how small Chaos appears to be, it should be treated with high priority for lest you know it the entire planet and its defenders will fall."

"For the Chaos Gods themselves. Their followers are divided into five categories. Followers of Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle, Slaanesh, or Chaos Undivided. Servants of Khorne are war made flesh, blessed by the foul war God of Chaos, their followers boast even more strength and speed than any regular Space Marine and are resistant to magic. Followers of Tzeentch are usually sorcerers, or clever individuals who can craft many plans or even peer into the future. They use psychic magic, or can find means to better improve themselves through knowledge. Followers of Nurgle are walking, plagued filled beings that love life or death. They boast an inhuman amount of resistance against weaponry and can walk through an entire squad's worth of firepower for a period of time. The worst part is that once any infected blood gets on your skin or armor it will be a slow and painful death which will even rot the soul. And finally...followers of Slaanesh...Having fun is what they live for from parties filled with drugs and pleasures of the flesh. They don't seem bad until you realize they love to torture anyone until they are mind slaves to Chaos. They are rather...not useful on battle but when it comes to corruption, they are rather good at it. For Chaos Undivided, they worship all Gods equally."

After the Admral finished speaking, he cleared his throat. "I can explain about technology, however we do not have a few years to sit around. You may face the same foe, however after your assault we will not let you access Imperial Records for personal offtime research. Until amends are made, we will only speak with you at this distance. You now have what you need to know about our our greatest foe. In due time if our Emperor wishes you may scheduale a meeting with our venerable Emperor to talk about peace terms." The man soon finished speaking.

Kinara stayed silent when it came to the negotiations. She knew nothing of which they spoke; it would be out of place for her to speak. She listened however, to the description put forth by the Imperium, copying it down to a holo-journal on her wrist-mounted comms pad. She leaned back in her seat and narrowed her eyes, the fighters she requested returning to the fleet and docking in the hangar bays of their respective ships for refueling and rearming.

Chaos....an unending War....it sounded like Sith and their underlings. The numerous wars against the Republic for whatever reasons there were. She sighed, her microphone muted. The Aschen didn't want a fight. Good, neither did she. She rubbed her eyes and put her feet up, reaching out with the Force to feel the intentions of the Aschen, to try and discern if whether or not they were telling the truth. It was the least she could do in this situation.

Once again Hanley opted to check the records, the AI once again returned no record of any engagements with Imperium forces, this caused her to slightly purse her lips, and disconnect the search interface.

With another swift motion, she keyed the communication back to Admiral Dorn.

"We have no records of any aggression displayed towards your people, and our military keeps meticulous records, likewise we continue to harbor no aggression towards your people, and seek to work together to eliminate this Chaos threat you have described; as they are a threat to us both." Hanley explained.

"If we work together, we can swiftly put an end to this threat; or we can consider the alternative of a long drawn out campaign against these demons you speak of."

Heaving a sigh, Hanley paused and looked around the CIC, before keying up the communication.

"Even if we have no record of any hostility, if it's compensation you seek, name your price and I will bring your demands back to my Government for consideration."

"Lord Dorn, the fleet is willing to compisate. Shall we respond sir?" The fleet admiral spoke to the space marine Primarch.

"Aschen fleet, this is Rogal Dorn. One of the sons to the Emperor. All we ask then is for raw materials. Mostly steel if available. We have no need of monetary benefit. As for the demonic threat, we will be forced into a long drawn out war. For trying to crush the heart of Chaos is all but impossible...But we of the Imperium wish to establish a hopefully non hostile alliance. We have many enemies of man that's needs to be slain...we don't need to spill uneccecary blood when we can." The Primarch spoke.

The Imperial officers simply remained silent as his word was almost the word of the Emperor.

Admiral Hanley considered the request for several moments, they could spare the resources, light-mass-fabrication allowed for the easy fabrication of raw materials, which meant they could provide the Imperium limitless resources. The same limitless resources that allowed the Aschen Empire to wage it's wars of aggression.

She decided that they could spare something.

Keying up the communications, she spoke her reply to Admiral Dorn.

"I will arrange for thirty thousand cubic tons of Steel to be transported to this world, In exchange, I request the schematics so that we may construct these Gellar fields you speak of, if we're to defend ourselves against this threat."

After a long pause, Hanley spoke again.

"Do we have a deal?"

Rogal Dorn thinks for a minute, this trade would be a bit beneficial...however, he was not willing to trust this Aschen Empire at this moment. Not until their Emperor deems them a suitable ally. "I will have to decline that deal. The schematics for the Gellar Field are highly prized in the Imperium. Keep in mind we are still highly untrustworthy of your people. No records on such an attack on Imperial ships, continuing to deny involvement despite the evidence we have show you. Even if the Imperium require the resources we will not strike a deal until the Emperor himself decides to give your people a chance. You shall make due with what you have, even against our mortal enemy. We do not need to arm any Empire with Imperial technology. Unless the Emperor himself decrees such a thing." The Primarch declined the deal.

"You are on your own for now Aschen Empire. We must prepare against the coming storm. We do not need to worry about your Empire as well." Soon communication was cut. Even if Chaos was on the horizon, Dorn knew he could not just trust this people as easily he had hoped.

The Admiral simply frowned as they declined the deal. It was no matter, the Aschen had technologies they could compensate with.

"Then we will withhold our shipments until such time you've deemed us worthy to trade with." Hanley said, making a long somewhat disappointed face. "We're a pragmatic civilization and are willing to work even with our enemies, but only under the circumstances that benefit us. When your Emperor has deemed us worthy of working together, we will revisit these negotiations."

After a few more moments, Hanley keyed up one last transmission. "I am transmitting coordinates to the Aschen world of Tal'dor, if your Emperor wishes to pursue talks with us, this is the only world that has been set up to receive foreign visitors."

Once the coordinates were transmitted, Hanley turned back to her XO.

"Set course back to the Empire, even if it's limited this intelligence will be of value to us." She said, the word passed to her XO, the Reverence II and it's accompanying fleet promptly winked out of high orbit, disappearing without a trace.

Orbit Above Terra: Imperial Naval Fleet, Battlefleet Terran

With sensors and visual feed flaring up, ships of the Imperial Navy began to flare up. "Fleet Admiral, visual feed is picking up an attack from an enemy ship! Sensors indicate it belongs to the shadow legion!" A crewman called out and the order was immediately given. "All ships, focus all firepower on that ship! I want all battleships to ready Heavy Macro Batteries for broadside on the surface! Cruisers prepare to fire Lance Batteries at the ship! Escorts prepare fighters and deploy available units to the surface! Space Marine assistance will be expected! Finnaly Orbital stations arm Nova Cannons! I want that ship destroyed faster than they can even think!" The fleet admiral issued his order as all ships aimed weapons down from orbit at the ship on the surface.

The first strikes came from concetrated Orbital Beams, Massive orbital lasers began to focus on the ship from the heavens. It was a focused beam so it was a constant beam of raw energy burning them like the wrath of a sun. Heavy Macro Batteries from a few battleships, each 8KM long rained down heavy kinetic shells down from their broadside, unleashing all available ordinance down at the ships.

For the Stations, they carefully aimed the exceptionally powerful Nova Cannon down at the ship. Arming them with a Plasma Warhead, these warheads have a diameter of at least 50 metres which burn with the ferocity of a small star for a fraction of a second.

Though innacurate, situated on a stable orbital station crafted by Rogal Dorn himself. These stations could handle the immense recoil from the ship rendering their strike true. It was only a matter of time before they prepared to fire.

However the Imperial Navy were not the only defenders, nearby the planet Space Marine Strike Cruisers were in orbit painted many different colors. There was not one chapter this time...no, there were perhaps eight different chapters each armed with their contigent of Space Marines prepared to strike at the surface. Of course a hundred of these Strike Cruisers fired orbital beams directly at Draco's ship.

Surface

On the surface hundreds of Imperial Valkaryies were sailing to the surface of the planet, alongside them Space Marine drop pods painted in many different color schemes. Alongside them one in particular stood out of place, The Emperor himself was leading the assault. "So be it then Draco! Soldiers of humanity it is time we take the fight to the Shadow Legion! We will assault their stronghold and banish them from this planet once and for all! Forward to glory soldiers!" The Empeors voice boomed in every last soldier of the Imperium.

Preparation were soon made by Imperial Ground forces to stage an all out assault on Draco's stronghold. Today was the day the Imperium did not stand idly by as they were invaded. No! Today! They would bring their enemies to their knees! This was now war...

Draco's eyes snapped open, and the ship rumbled from the shock of being targeted from orbit. Well, he didn't expect them to use their orbital grid, but it was of little concern. The Dragon-Forged Duradaeden armor of the Drakon was strong, nothing short of pure Light fire fired from another ancient Dragon would pierce her hull. However, the superstructure was demolished in the blasts to come, leaving only the bridge and the numerous turrets in view, giving the ship only a more grotesque and intimidating look. Another massive Salvo rocked the ship backwards, and it began to descend towards the mountain side, the metal slicing through the earth and rock as she planted herself into the very mountain. Snapping his fingers, all battle stations came online, and the ship roared to life once more, the grey markings glowing red, and more secondary batteries and point defense guns coming online to combat the forces undeniably coming from above. Atop the tallest mountain stood Draco, his arms outstretched as a Dark cloud began to pour forth from his body, covering the sky over the mountain range and Solinus City, hopefully blocking view and targeting from above the cloud cover. If they wanted a fight, they could come and get one.

"I hear your call, Emperor of Mankind!"

Draco's voice boomed across half the continent

"If you truly wish to face me, meet me in single combat. Step through the portal, see what you will fight for, what lengths I will go to end you, and proclaim myself ruler of this land!"

Before the Emperor and his forces a great wall of darkness emerged, a single swirling vortex of purple energy standing before them, acting as a portal to the other side of the mountains, where Draco awaited and the Shadow Legion flooded the streets of the city from tunnels beneath the streets. Stepping through the portal would put the Emperor and his men directly in the center of the demolished city, the smell of death and corruption filling the air as the corrupted Light fire rounds did their work. The sheer presence of Draco could be felt even though he was still miles away. Two great wings spread on the horizon, blacking out what little of the sun that shone through the cover of Shadow-Magic Clouds. First the great claws gripped the peaks of the mountains, and then he reared his massive head, the great horns casting a shadow on the darkness itself while the great eyes opened. Glimpses into what could only be described as hell, the great orbs of Crimson glowed, back lit by his Draconian power.

Within the blink of an eye, the monstrous Dragon was gone, and before the Emperor, approximately one hundred meters away, was the ten foot tall avatar of a man Draco used, swept-back black Draconian Duradaeden Armor gleaming in the fire, and monstrous looking swords humming with Draconian Lightning.

Behind the Emperor erupted chaos, the Shadow Legion sprouting up from the shadows of the very men sworn to defend Terra, hounds skittering around while moaning in agony, slashers slinking around and slicing the throats of the first unawares soldiers they saw, Bashers in their now trademark Roman Legionnaire armor slamming their shields down on knees and toes while pouring forth maelstroms of high explosive or incendiary .50 caliber rounds from their guns held in one hand, soulless red eyes peering out from behind those helmets only increasing the fear factor they had from their appearance. Screaming Minotauri decked out in full combat armor and weapons charged into the lines of the men from the broken buildings and Commandos danced through the ranks with dual Duradaeden swords channeling Draconian Lightning, allowing them to cut through most anything with ease.

Before the Emperor was Draco in rare form; nigh full power yet still in a mortal body, only capable in the past while within the Mythic Realm, now possible by such close proximity to Draco's fortress on the other side of the Mountains. Orbs of Shadow descended into view, About the size of a bowling ball, each one hovered around the battlefield in a seemingly random, or perhaps thought out, pattern. Lightning arced between them in random directions and intervals. Slowly, Draco lowered himself into a rather balanced Stance, one sword out in front of him, while the other was side ways, forming and L with his body, his stance was adjusted accordingly, bending the knees and widening the gait while also turning his feet to resemble the L as well. Slowly, the blade in front turned until the Dragon's palm was facing down wards.

The ground rumbled, another Salvo went off from the Drakon, and the fight was on.
