Topaz

A young woman attending university who would do anything for chocolate in any form, or for a good book. Paper Master.

a character in “The Multiverse”, originally authored by Guest, as played by Prose

Description

ImageTopaz is the normal young woman. All her thoughts revolve around men, more men, studies, chocolate, men again, and what she wants to be when she graduates as a journalist. Her nose is usually always in some form of book, or journal, newspaper, anything that is printed on paper. Paper, paper, paper. It's always around the young woman, and there never seems to be a legitimate reason why. But there lays a secret in those soft brown eyes—eyes that seem nothing but innocent and good natured. Topaz doesn't keep it too well though, for she has the tendency to talk too much, and gossip when she can.

Topaz is what is known as a Paper Master; one who can control and manipulate paper. She can make bulletproof shields, the most awesome paper airplane you've ever seen, or just a simple origami model. Topaz can even slow the burning rate of paper, but not stop it entirely. When paper is wet however, she loses the control of it, aside from when it is just barely damp. In that instance, it is still workable, but only to a degree.

Paper. That was all that anyone would see if they were near the door. Full white sheets of paper flying through the air. It was the distraction from the young university woman that had just tripped over the bar door, and fell onto her face. Worst part of that was, Topaz was wearing a skirt, and now her knickers were flashing white to all that would look down past the pages of her report.

Topaz had fallen from Kaitlynn Lessard yanking the door open at the exact moment that she was going to push it. That little bit of leaning forward apparently didn't do anything good for Topaz's bad balance, and her clumsiness.

There was a bright blush on the young woman's face at all the sudden attention, and Topaz reached up to hide it with both hands. "Oh my goodness. I am so sorry!" She blinked a few times and noticed that Kaitlynn Lessard was down and attempting to pick up all the pages that had split.

"Oh no no no! You don't have to do that! Really!"

Topaz eased herself away from the man, who had touched her. He may have been the main reason why she was blushing. It was unsure, than again, Topaz was a young woman full of hormones. Hastily her clothing was brushed off, and she waved a hand through the air.

The paper was moving, and moving quickly to stack itself neatly onto a nearby table, even the ones that were currently in the possession of the other lady's hands. Telekinesis? No, if someone had said that word to her, Topaz would have just stared at them blankly.

She blinked at Usui Kamijou, and curled a hand near her chest while leaning away from the odd man. He chatted almost as badly as a gossiping woman. But that was a contradictory thought. Topaz could definitely do the same.

"Oh, well have a good day then," she said to Kaitlynn Lessard with a perky smile. Topaz then looked back to the man and arched a brow, before walking to her papers to collect them. He was strange, and gave her a most strange feeling...

Gathering her papers to her chest, she watched Kaitlynn and Usui step out of the bar. Odd couple, they were. They must have been having some sort of fight. The man did seem like a bit of a prick, or that could have been her imagination.

"Odd."

Topaz made her way to a table, specifically Conn Laise Kerr's table.

"Hello! Can I sit here? You look a bit lonely, and I need a table for all my papers. There's no more open tables..." She had started out strong, but as Topaz continued, she seemed more vulnerable.

The young woman smiled ever so happily, one could see the stars floating around her head. Well, in metaphor at least.

"Thank you ever so much!"

The wave from Hunny was rewarded with one from Topaz, as she sat down and slammed the large stack of papers on the table. It made a loud thump, and shook the wooden structure.

"It's a report for my classes."

The commotion in the bar was easily noticed, for how could someone not notice what was going on around them? This was like ignoring a speeding train, blaring all its horns, that would coming right at your face. A shiver ran down Topaz's spine in fear, and with a wave of her hand, all those pages of paper moved.

A dome was created around their table, securing them from the fight, and it would be good protection against melee attacks. Bad thing about being stuck in a paper dome though, Topaz had no idea when to bring it down. She panted lightly while staring around at the paper.

"I think we're safe now."

Topaz seemed completely comfortable at what she had done, and blinked at the panic states of Hunny and Conn.

Oh that's right. He did say that they would act this way if I did things like that...

"Uhm." She decided to play along with them. "Oh my God, what is going on!?" Her efforts at playing frightened though, were horribly over dramatic and clearly false.

Okay so the gig was up. Conn was obviously not a complete idiot. Actually she was relieved that he had caught the game, or he just might have been mentally retarded in some fashion. Those people were never really good conversationalists.

"Okay, so... it's obvious you've never met a Paper Master before. How to explain..."

He never did not say that I couldn't tell them or show them. So it's not against the rules, right?

"I can control and influence paper?" She had no idea about Hunny's phobia of small places, after all, not like she knew the woman, and most things were oblivious to Topaz, unfortunately. She'd have to come straight out and tell her.

The scream from Hunny made her scream too. Topaz was always frightened so easily like that with surprise, and that was surely a surprise. When she had opened her eyes and unclenched her fists, Topaz instantly noticed the disappearance of Hunny and Conn from their seats.

"Oh. Where did they go?"

Oh you did it again, Tops, they ran off because you are too stran -- wait, the barrier is still up.

She leaned over and saw Hunny looking at her.

"Oh no! What happened to your friend?"

Seeing as her paper manipulation skills were unmatched, Topaz could create shields that were bulletproof. A bat or a body would hardly do any damage aside from frighten the occupants inside.

A piece of paper stood straight up, nestled between two of Topaz's fingers. Just where she always had paper handy was a complete mystery to all.

"Well neither do I. This is not good, not good at al --"

Something hit her barrier of paper, causing a loud thud to be heard. No damage was done, but it angered Topaz. Her eyes narrowed while the page in her hand shifted and folded into an impossibly sharp dagger. Sure, her barrier was tough, bulletproof tough, but defeat-able.

The paper dome would burn, but far more slowly than it should. Eventually a small hole was burned through the sheets, and a growling Topaz was revealed. That wasn't just paper he was burning though, but her report that was due tomorrow!

Instantly, as to save what she could, the pieces that were aflame suddenly gathered into a large, but very neat, stack on the table.

"How rude..."

Her right eye twitched.

"I spent all damn day working on that report!!!"

She eyed the baseball bat, and spread out a few sheets of paper beneath her fingers.

"What. You gonna be rude again, asshole?"

That right eye twitched again. She really really did not like this person.

And that force would be intercepted with a single sheet of paper held between two fingers that belong to Topaz. Paper Masters seemed weak, and oh how they were so easily underestimated. Being the most adept at paper mastery, Topaz could easily stop bullets if she reacted fast enough.

"I don't like people that ruin my reports."

The hand that still held the paper dagger from before, it being as deadly as a normal one, and it now made a course to stab him beneath his arm in the nice, soft, easily penetrated area.

"Ehn!"

Okay so this guy, thing, was totally not normal and was doing something very not normal. Yeah, like manipulating paper was normal. Topaz, always so contradicting.

"Aiiyyaah!"

She ran for cover, any cover. And this seemed to be right between 'Ike' Kontio and Doji Kiriko, oh and Trinnia too.

"Look out! It's a creep!"

There was no time before Topaz had jumped on the bar and scooted over to the other side of it... in a skirt.

Fingers were seen first, edging over the top of the counter, and then the top of a brown haired girl, and finally those large brown eyes. All of this of course had been followed by the scream and "Umph!".

Topaz remained quiet and still. Maybe no one would notice her. Surely they noticed the flying paper around her though. Honestly, there was always paper on the girl. Where exactly did she keep it all?!

Topaz disappeared from the counter, or at least, what could be seen of her. She crawled across the floor on her hands and knees, ignoring the woman that had collapsed behind her on the floor.

"What did I do this time. This is so not fair. And I am going to have to spend all night again working on the rest of my report. Utterly ridiculous. Honest--"

Topaz ran into a pair of legs, Garnet's legs. Oh the irony of two people in the bar that both had birthstone names.

"Shh!!"

She rose up and drug him down from his seat with a hand clasp over his mouth. Or at least, Topaz had made the motions to do that, but naturally it wasn't like she could force him. It was just the desired result.

"There is something after me, but I think its after all of them now."

Silently, and quickly papers flew up around Topaz and Garnet, trapping them in a small shield. What was neat about this one though was that it wasn't there to be strong, but to perfectly mimic the end of the bar as to hide its occupants. They were totally concealed.

The girl, Topaz, kept her grasp over Garnet's mouth and whispered into his ear: "Don't be scared. I won't hurt you, but that thing after me will."

Beads of sweat pop up onto Topaz's forehead as she strains from the weight atop her shield.

Okay so, note to self; get colored paper.

The girl let go of Garnet and concentrated on the paper dome. Maybe she could reverse the shield and trap him instead? No. That was possible but she liked being safe inside. Plus, it sounded like there were two people up there and not just one.

The paper again did not burn as fast as was to be expected, but far too slow. Yet still it did burn. That's what paper did, it burned. And it was burning. Burning with two people inside it.

"Uh oh," Topaz whispered out while looking back at Garnet in the cramped space. Was he eating? Really?! Eating at a time like this!? Her right eye twitched, and Topaz reached out to smack him in the back of his head.

"You twit this is not the time to be eating!"

"And what would I do with a real sword? I make far better swords than that one!"

As if to prove him right, the girl peeled off a layer of good paper and quickly fashioned it into a short sword. Okay, the barrier needed to go down now. She had a weapon to defend herself! Ha! Take that weird glub blub tub stub thing!

"Okay on the count of three, you run."

A pause...

"On -- three!"

A hole opened in the side of the dome and Topaz rushed out before the entire structure collapsed into a heap of flying paper.

The girl pointed at the thing that was Drench, whatever it was... It was gross.

"Ugh, ew. Nasty."

And then she noticed her report papers beneath him. Burnt. Crinkled. Folded. Generally ruined.

"I hate you so much!"
