"They've taken everything from me. Now I have nothing to lose."

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by SugarNspikeS

Description

Image

Name: Vance Hemolian
Race: Phaige
Skin color: light violet
Hair color: iridescent blue
Eye color: Bio-luminescent glowing blue
Abilities: Empathetic, Psychic (only to the degree of reading minds), Cryomancer.

Profile: Vance is the sole survivor from an attack on his star system by the galactic council. The council has since covered up this crime that destroyed the entire Phaigean civilization and the Phaige have since become the stuff of terrible legends and nightmares used to get children to behave. Vance has put his abilities to use helping others in need whenever he can in an effort to get justice for his people. However, he is not above mercenary work.

Background: Before his people were murdered, they were a race of elemental magic users. While they had advanced technology, they also used magic as a part of their everyday lives. The race as a whole had empathetic and mind-reading abilities. When it came to using magic, at the age of ten, a Phaige would choose the element they wanted to master and they would go into a state of elemental lock for that form of magic. When Vance was ten, he chose ice as his element. When the attack on his planet happened, Vance was with his parents on a geological expedition on the planet's moon. His parents made him take the only shuttle craft to get away before the weapon was turned on them as well.

So begins...

Vance made his way through the crowded plaza. He wasn't a fan of large gatherings like this, but he hadn't been on the planet long so he didn't wish to stand out. He did his best to suppress his empathetic and psychic abilities while he walked through the crowd. He hoped that his ship was safe in the galactic port, but just in case he had activated Ravi's self-defense systems.

He was inspired by the words of the king and was curious about what the festival entailed. He wondered what was going on on this planet to warrant the need for new heroes. He walked slowly through the crowd until he found a spot that seemed to be out of the way underneath a tall tree where he stood and observed the crowd. He gradually let his empathetic abilities reach out through the crowd. There was a lot of joy, an emotion he hadn't felt in a long time, but he had a sinking feeling that something bad could happen easily and very soon. He kept his hood drawn down over his face so as not to draw attention to himself as he didn't look like anyone else at this festival, but being the last of your kind will do that.

"Hmm, strange that this planet uses advanced technology, yet they still believe in demons and magic." Vance muttered to himself as he watched.

N'dal stood in the plaza, more accurately over at one of the stalls set up for the festival. His feline eyes gazed long over the fruits being hawked by the merchant hoping to make money off of the crowds bounding about the festival. His ears twitched and swiveled at the incessant noise and voices that filled the air, and his tail swished in irritation.

On the one hand, the crowds and loud noises did not agree with him. On the other, he was curious about this Hero's Festival. Back at his home, in a time long distant in the past, he was considered a warrior. He had been a Hruth Val'r, a "World Wanderer", And his purpose had been like that of an adventurer, to go where others in his tribe feared to go, to learn what he could and bring that knowledge back to his tribe, to help them grow stronger.

Of course, that had been the very reason for his great sorrow. In his travels he had come across a strange storm that ripped reality asunder. He had been caught in it, and flung across time and space. He had later learned that his homeworld had, several billion years prior to the present date, been obliterated and recolonized by a fleet of imperial humans. Thus was he truly a Hruth Val'r, for he wandered world to world, belonging to none.

He smiled sadly. If his people had not been obliterated, he would have been lauded as a legendary figure, having gone further and learned more than any of his kind before him. Even his father would have been impressed.

It is was a strange thing, that spot of vision out of the corner of ones eye. Some could swear that in certain lights it looked as though drifting wisps dragged alongside them and when they turned to look there was nought but empty air. Others yet swear that the small edge of blurring vision that is just outside of focus is where you really see the world, that without it everything would be shrouded in darkness and mystery. Perhaps it is these same people who spread the fear that to look at the creatures that lurk just outside of sight, that one should never ever turn their head at the sight of movement just beyond their sight. Perhaps it is these being who speak the truth. Perhaps there are darker things than that which mortal eyes were made to behold.

"Hmm, strange that this planet uses advanced technology, yet they still believe in demons and magic." A thought spoken aloud by one so alone and so isolated from the rest of the world fell upon deaf ears. Unheard by any, but for one singular being.
"Strange? You speak of it as though such things are an impossibility." Came a reply unasked for. Almost impossibly it seemed, a figure dressed from head to toe in black robes was stood next to the boy, not an inch of bare flesh could be seen on this robed figure. A plain black mask covered his face and black gloves covered his hands. Peeking just barely from under the hem of his hood were a few stray strands of silver hair and from the eye holes of the mask, the which had neither mouth nor nostril holes, were a pair of amber eyes that seemed all but golden.

The masked man turned to look at the blue haired boy, he was only just at average height and was hardly of anything of an impressive build, without the robes that hung around him and off of his shoulders no doubt that man would seem painfully thin to a normal man. His golden eyes seemed to bore into the boy next to him as he looked sideways at him, a gaze that looked both into and through him as if assessing his very position within the universe itself. "And what precisely is it that makes you so absolutely sure such a thing is a mere belief?"

As the King finished his speech, the festivities went into full bloom. Cheering, laughing, munching, Dragon Roars, Robotic Beeps, all could be heard throughout the entire area. The Plaza, where people often met up, played around, or what not, and could find food and beverages of all types, had also been used today to hold a large part of the festival. There was also the Bazaar nearby. Even the Adventurer's Guild HQ loomed nearby, shining brightly as if it was resonated with the crowd. Sure enough, there were famous adventurers all around as well, enjoying their time.

There were shooting booths set up, as well as fish catching booths. Ring tosses, and Remote Control Advanced Robot Fights. There were games that used magic, and there were people flying up overhead, leaving rainbow trails or trails that matched the colors of the nation. The smell of mouthwatering food wafted through the air, encroaching on all party goers. The lights were dazzling, not too bright or too dim. All sorts of music could be heard all over, but the people were careful to space it out to not interfere with the others. Surely enough, you could see people waltzing over in one area, but in a separate area a distance away they were doing disco.

"Now!"

Up overhead, the people flying on brooms and with jetpacks releasing the colored streams of the nation formed the nation's insignia in the sky, as it seemed to glitter. But that was not all, suddenly a finger snap could be heard from all over...and the streams lit up with light, as they had been activated! The reaction caused it to glitter, and show to the festival goers a truly breathtaking sight.

"...awesome..."

Zeebee was amazed by what he saw, and how the king had spoken. He had his phone in his hand however. With an active call.

"Yeah, it was awesome Zeebee. Well, lets hope we can meet up later okay?"

"Yeah, sounds good Sora".

With that, he hung up, and ran off into the middle of the festival to play some games and see even more entertainment, like the firedancers he had spotted earlier.

Vance turned to see the person in the black robes similar to his own in their void of color. While Vance didn't wear a mask, this figure did, and all he could see were his honey colored eyes and his few strands of silver hair. "I'm sorry, you misunderstand me. I've been to planets throughout the galaxy and I've seen things that I could only describe as magic and I come from a highly advanced technical society. I'm well aware that magic is a very real thing. I found it strange that this planet embraces both it's magical and technological advancements so completely." Vance smiled and looked around the festival. "Nearly every planet I've been to has either embraced one or the other, but very rarely have I seen one that embraced both and those that have will usually still lean toward one or the other. But this place... it's like the perfect blend of both." Vance used his empathetic powers on the strange masked man. He wasn't getting any hostility, but he was getting some curiosity from the masked person. "You are intrigued by me aren't you? If you're wondering why you've never seen anyone like me, it's because I'm the last of my kind."

The masked man looked impassively at the blue haired figure, it was already hard enough to discern his thoughts through that plain black mask. His gaze seemed almost lazy in it's burning intensity, a thin dull shimmer of disinterest seemed to spark through that cold glare for but a moment as the boy gave a speech almost practiced as though he were some sort of tourist guide to this strange planet.

"Indeed, it is fortunate that they have yet to begin a witch hunt on this world, no doubt it is a matter of time before such a thing descends upon the planet. Such would have to be the way of things if they occurred, it is not my place to supplant the strong with the weak."
"You are intrigued by me aren't you? If you're wondering why you've never seen anyone like me, it's because I'm the last of my kind." There was a brief pause, only to be followed by a brief, mocking scoff from within those hidden features. The masked man stepped forwards, turning on his heel, robes whipping around his feet as one hand raised to gesture to the crowds.
"Intrigued? Believe me child, you are far from the unique in this location alone. At but a glance I can cast my eyes over the gathered throng and spy with a wondering eye three individuals who are the tragic sole survivors of a doomed race or the only one of their kind. Such a thing does not interest me, your race died, your people failed the test. You, like they, are an echo of what could have been."

The masked man stepped closer to the blue haired boy once more, pausing before he talked once more. His golden eyes glimmered with that cold, detached disinterest once more as he maintained eye contact. "Your peoples future has ended at you, and such it lays unto you to lay their legacy. Tell me, will you allow it to fade into ignominy or will you perhaps utulise your abilities to achieve a purpose that will immortalise yourself and their legacy?"

"For the record, my people were murdered. As for their legacy, I'm it. All traces of their existence was destroyed when a certain galactic council used a vile weapon to commit genocide so that they could strip my planet of a valuable crystalline power source." He spoke with pain and hints of anger in his voice, not at the masked man, but at those who had destroyed his world. "My powers I put to use to help others... in my own way." He paused for a moment trying to get a read off this man that was accurate. "If you don't mind me asking, what brought you to talk to me? It clearly wasn't my tragic past, that doesn't interest you, so what would such a secretive individual like yourself want with me?" He was genuinely curious about this person.

Vance quickly glanced over the invitation. The masked figure's true intentions weren't clear, though he hadn't yet tried to read his thoughts. He had only picked up on the confusing lack of emotion. "I'll consider it." He stated plainly as he put the invitation into his robe. He truly didn't know for certain if he would go yet. He was skeptical of this figure. "If there is nothing else, I will go back to enjoying the festival. I hear there's food here from all over the galaxy and I would love to try some new cuisine." He smiled politely at the figure before bowing his head. He didn't want to tell the man how wrong he was. He did have a goal in mind, but it was not an easily attained goal. Vance was the last of his kind, but as far as the council was concerned, his race never existed and his method of "helping others" he earned him a reputation. The whole reason he had paid any attention to this figure was that he thought he might be a potential client. It was clear he wasn't but he still wasn't ruling out the possibility of a trap being set up at this ball of chaos. The man knew a lot, but not as much as he thought he did.

It took a lot of ducking and weaving between legs but the cat sized girl, running with all the agility of her feline kin, lost the bulky workers who had chased her away from the docks in the excited crowed of the Plaza. Boo was just in time to hear the king's speech. Boo didn't mind the crowed. In fact, she loved all the excitement and fun! These events usually meant free food and big crowds meant a little pick pocketing, if needed, should be fairly easy. At her size, however, Boo couldn't see much more than legs and feet. Curious to a fault, the bare foot little girl put those sharp claws of hers to use and climbed up the side of a stall selling fruit to get a better look around.

New heros huh? Boo could be a hero. The little girl mused to herself. A school sounded boring though. Who needed school when they had talent? All the explosions and glitter at the end of the speech got a squeal of delight from Boo. Despite all the noise already hurting her sensitive feline ears, the child simply folded them back to protect them and clapped along as her tail flicked behind her in excitement. What should Boo do first? The girl just couldn't decide at first. Big, violet eyes drifted around from a couple of dark figures, to a feline man, to a boy a bit older than her running off, and the rest of the crowed.

Eventually, Boo decided to hop down from her perch and follow after the boy. It looked like he was heading towards the fire dancers and games. That was always fun! The little girl kept her eyes open for free food along the way though. She could never turn down free food! Especially sweets.

Sploooooosh!~

That was a sound that echoed in one area of the Plaza as two cats, a normal black cat and a cat made of fire, danced around each other. Then, after gaining the people's attention with the weird Sploosh sound they made when they arrived, the two cats ran towards each other. At first, everyone thought the fire cat was going to burn the normal cat, however...the fire cat suddenly seemed to turn into a ring of fire with its scattered embers as the cat jumped through the ring. But instead of a cat coming out, it was a woman dressed in some flashy and eye catching clothing.

She quickly turned around, and jumped into the air. The ring of fire turned back into a cat after she went through, and jumped up with her, turning into a spiral of fire. But this spiral of fire never seemed to touch her once, as she never got burned. Furthermore, now she was seemingly flipping in place, a never ending flip, inside the spiral of fire.

There were others doing this with other elements as well, drawing attention and making a show.

"Ama...amazing..."

Zeebee was totally captivated by the display in front of him, that sparks were flying off him. Literal sparks of electricity, enough that he was unconsciously charging all the phones in the nearby area.

Zeebee was currently eating a huge amount of popcorn too, while he watched the show. There was also a breakdancing robot nearby, as well as a few others. As Zeebee ran by, he crossed paths with a few other people. He still had failed to realize he was giving off sparks though, so he had started drawing attention more then he realized.

But there was still so much to enjoy, such as the Hovercoaster that was set up! It was even enchanted with gravity magic so that while extreme, was perfectly safe!

Vance had excused himself from the shadowy figure and went to enjoy the festivities. He felt the emotions of someone in the crowd who felt similar to himself; the last of his kind. It was a unique form of sadness that couldn't be mistaken for any other. He looked around the crowd to see the feline being standing alone. He wished there was something he could do for him, but he knew the pain and he knew that it never went away, one simply got used to it.

Just then a child, looked to be about ten, ran by with the biggest eyes filled with joy Vance had ever seen. He had sparks flying of of him as though he were a firework, but Vance could feel the electricity make his hair stand on end. He didn't see an adult with the child anywhere and he knelt down so he could talk to him. He wasn't sure if it was even a child or just a member of a smaller race that only looked like children by comparison. He smiled at the child. "Hey there, did you know you got sparks flying off you? It's pretty cool looking, you're like a living sparkler." Vance chuckled. "So are you an electricity elemental? I can control ice myself, see?" Vance held out his hand and formed a large spinning ice sculpture of a kitten out of thing air.

Boo lay low as she chased after the boy she had seen run into the crowed. It was a game in itself just not to loose him in the crowed. It helped that that he was giving off sparks though. Even in a crowed this size such a sight was hard to miss. On all fours the cat sized girl wound her way around the legs of strangers and nearly cause more than one person to trip until the boy came to a stop.

The feline child stood upright and took a moment to dust off her hands as well as her ragged tunic. It was then that she noticed that the fur on her ears and tail, and even some of her messy pink hair was standing up on end. She couldn't help a giggle at that, but quickly clamped her hands over her mouth to look sidelong at the boy. There was a lot of noise, maybe he wouldn't even notice. He seemed pretty enamored with the show... which was quite amazing. Boo however, was more concerned with the giant tub of popcorn the boy had.

She would have to stand on her toes and give a hop to reach it but Boo was pretty sure she could snag a little popcorn before the boy even noticed. At least, that was her plan before a man knelt down to talk to the boy from the other side. Poo. Now even if the boy didn't notice, the man probably would. Boo contemplated trying anyway. She could 'accidentally' trip or bump into him and still get the popcorn. Boo was distracted however, when the man did something rather fun. "A kitty!" The little girl squealed as she attempted to squeeze right past the older boy, sparks and all, for a closer look. She didn't try to take it, but how could the little stray not be interested in a kitten miniature?

Zeebee looked around as he witnessed other marvels, such as an aerial movement done by the Dragon Knights of the Kingdom, with both them and their Dragons clad in high tech power armor and wielding laser rifles. There was also a display off in the distance, advertising MagiApps, Apps capable of casting magic. It was a brave new world, for those unfamiliar with what Origin could offer.

"Hey there, did you know you got sparks flying off you? It's pretty cool looking, you're like a living sparkler."

Suddenly, a man knelt down and spoke to him. Zeebee didn't even notice the man, but even more importantly, he failed to notice again he was giving off sparks.

"So are you an electricity elemental? I can control ice myself, see?"

As the man showed him the ice again, Zeebee got interested in it...and started letting off more sparks with amazement. He immediately tried to stop, his cheeks a bit red.

"Uh...no I didn't! Thanks! And...yeah, I guess I am, its something I can do. My name is Zeebee!"

There were several reasons Zeebee didn't want to throw off sparks. First off, it had been a long time since he last discharged because of the whole "getting kidnapped by scientists" thing, and the whole "escaping scientists" thing. Zeebee was an infinite electricity generator, he generated it constantly and using his abilities also generated a sort of electrical charge in his body. It wasn't harmful to him too much, though it might stimulate his body a little, but his body had a max threshold of what he could hold. If he reached the limit, it would forcibly discharge all the electricity stored in his body in one go. He could not use this charge for his abilities either, oddly enough.

He could discharge himself manually, but discharging was hard to do and quite painful unless he let it build up. Therefore, he had to let it build up to a certain point. But at that point, the amount he would be discharging would be bad. He would fry or set on fire anything near or on him, and any metal would become burning hot for a moment. The only safe option was discharging inside a bathtub, as he could direct it all down and not fry anything with the exception of what he was wearing, but it was a bathroom so that was usually fine. He was already high up, so while this would not do much, he had still built up quite the charge.

The second was that it drew attention. He had escaped from a lab that clearly had economic backing. He wanted to avoid drawing attention to himself, so giving off sparks was dangerous.

The third was that it was just plain embarrassing he thought, letting his powers leak like that.

As he was trying to calm it down, a girl pushed past him, interested in the ice kitten that he through was really good.

"Are you an ice sculptor by chance?"

Vance smiled at the two children. "ZeeBee? That's a cool name. My name's Vance." He looked down at the cute pink cat girl gazing at the ice sculpture. He reached down to scratch her behind the ear. "I don't really sculpt the ice, I form it in the shape I imagine it. I also have a few other powers. I can read minds and I can read emotions as well. Like I know how this one here was plotting to steal your popcorn before she got distracted by my ice kitty. And I hope you'll forgive my intrusion of your mind, but I heard your thoughts when I told you that you were sparking. Someone... these scientists are after you? I also felt that you were scared of them. I'm on the run too, and someone your age shouldn't be on the run alone. Would you like to travel with me? My ship also has something that might be able to help you with you're overcharging so you don't hurt anyone. If you would you need to let me know now, I gotta leave soon to go to a fancy party."

Boo lowered her head, flinching away when Vance reached for her. However when he didn't try to grab her or pull her ears she relaxed slightly. The little girl didn't generally trust random strangers to touch her unless she was the one that initiated contact. Boo didn't have Vance's gift for mind reading, though she tended to be somewhat resistant to it given everything she'd been through, so she couldn't know what was going on in Zeebee's head. She did like his name though. "Teehee! Zeebee is a good name!" She chimed happily.

Boo nodded in agreement with the Vance's words. At least until he ratted her out. At that point she flattened her ears and snorted. "Boo was not! You can't prove anything!" The street child quickly countered. After a moment's thought, Boo tucked her hands sheepishly behind her back and gave the two big, sad eyes. "Boo wouldn't take it all. She was only hungry." Hopefully that would smooth things over. At least it was the truth.

Vance's mention of the boy being chased piqued Boo's interest instantly. You can never trust those scientist types with their cages and painful ex- Boo let the thought drop when she glanced at Vance again. Better not to think about it. While Vance invited Zeebee to join him, Boo looked him over curiously. A ride on a space ship and a fancy party sounded fun... but who was to say this mind reading, spoiler of food 'finding' plans could be trusted? "Will they have food at the party?" Boo finally asked. Her curiosity almost always got the better of her.

"Thanks....though, why do I get the feeling the B got capitalized when you said it?"

Zeebee thanked the man, however he was then dropped a rather large bomb.

"Wha....wait, what?!?!"

Zeebee was caught totally off guard when the man told him he could read minds. After all, Zeebee had just thought about VERY embarrassing moments just there....from the scientists, to discharging electricity in the bathtub, to a few others....and it made him get very red, and a bit sparking.

"Hold on, so....so you just saw everything in my mind right then and now?!"

Zeebee had every right to be embarrassed after all, he was naked in several of them. In fact, for some reason it was harder to not think about what he didn't want to...

Zeebee immediately receeded and squatted down in embarrassment, hugging his legs with sparks flying off him like crazy. At the same time....it was just a little, and in small volumes, but gravity distorted. No one went flying up, but objects sort of did. It was more like being blown up since other things around or attached to them had not been affected. It was as if gravity had been inverted on some level...

Actually, that was exactly it. Through the Link established between Zeebee and Sora, Zeebee had accidentally accesses Sora's Inversion ability and inverted gravity, at least partially. Anyways, this guy called Vance...Zeebee considered the fact he might not be a good man. What if he was a pedophile? Or a criminal? Or working for the scientists, and there was no mind reading?

Zeebee didn't think he could trust the man, and he definitely was not leaving at all without consulting Sora.

Vance felt terrible for making the kid feel embarrassed. "No it isn't like that, I can't see thoughts or memories. It's like I can hear the words and feel your emotions. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to make you feel this way." Vance genuinely apologized. "I understand if you don't trust me, so I'll explain something to you. I'm the last of my kind. My people were killed by a weapon called 'The Cloud' which was a bunch of super tiny robots so tiny they looked like dust. These robots destroyed my people on a microscopic level. These robots were created by scientists and used by another group call the galactic council. So I'm not a fan of those type of scientists either. I understand that you don't trust me, I was just scared for your safety as a child on the run from such powerful people. I'll give you the time you need to think it over. Here." He gave Zeebee what looked like a garage door opener. "If at any time you decide you want to trust me or if the scientists ever come after you again, you can push that button and it will send a signal to my ship and I will come to get you." He wiped away a tear from his own eyes as he felt like a complete jerk for making the kid feel this way.

He then turned to the cat girl. He did his best to put on a fake smile for her. "Boo? That's a cute name. If you want to come to the party you can. I would never let you go hungry again if you wanted to hang out with me. But after this, I'll understand if you wish to stay here too." He hung his head down in shame. Sure, I have no issues helping people as a mercenary, but no try to help a child that genuinely needs it and I go and make the kid freak out and cry. He thought to himself

Zeebee seemed uninterested in the fact that Boo had been after his popcorn. At least as far as Boo could tell. He seemed more worried about the fact that Vace had been in his head. It made sense to Boo. Though, now she had to wander what was in Zeebee's head. "Uh, is it true you' have the bad white coats after you? Why's you're face all red?" Now that he was closer to the miniature neko's level, Boo could see he was blushing... and seemed quite distressed. "It's okay, Boo will bite them." She promised. Boo even reached out to pet Zeebee, but thought better of it given all the sparks.

When Vance spoke up again, Boo turned her violet eyes back to the man with interest and watched him hand the magic button over with interest. He was the last of his kind? That must be lonely.... At any rate, any enemy of the scientist was a friend of Boo. It was the little girl's turn to blush when Vance said her name was cute. "Teehee, Thanks! It was a present." She answered. When asked about the party, Boo was quick to nod. Zeebee was clearly making the smarter choice to at least think it over, but Boo was an impulsive little thing. "Boo's not scared of you. Boo's not scared of anything!" She answered cheerfully. "Aaand loves parties! With food an music and dancing and games... like this party!" The cat child motioned to the Plaza around them, then started bouncing on her toes in excitement.

It was Vance's last words that made Boo let out a squeal though. "Never?! You never run out of food?! We can go on adventures -and- have all the food?!" She asked, as if the concept was simply unbelievable. "Lets do that! Boo can help on she ship too! Boo is a good pirate captain! Ooo! When do we have to go?! Wanna play games first?! Zeebee?! Zeebee play games with us!" This festival just got a whole lot more fun!

Vance smiled at Boo's exuberance. "Well you're just full of energy aren't you? Well, I'm the captain on the ship, but you can be my first mate. I think we have time for a game or two, there's a wormhole nearby that will get us there in time." He picked her up and took his hood off, he figured he was being paranoid to have it up, and he set Boo into the hood like it was a seat for her to get a better view. "There now you can see everything and you don't have to climb a tree or anything." He grinned. He waited to see if Zeebee was going to come with.

"I...see...and, my face...its just....I remembered something bad is all!"

Zeebee was greatly relived the single worst, most horrific, and also most embarrassing moment of his life was not seen by others, and that it was just words he got. He sort of tried to respond to Boo's comments, but was thrown off a little still from earlier. After calming down a bit, he took the button, although a bit sheepishly. "Okay then...and, uhh...thanks..."

After that, a huge show was put on, with robots, lions, dragons, and all sorts of other things all worked in. It was a truly amazing show, and it temporarily drew Zeebee's attention, causing him to miss some things that were said.

"This really does seem like...a great place to live..."

Zeebee was captivated by the sights, and ended up muttering something accidentally.

"I hope you are doing okay mom...I wish you could see this..."

Suddenly, at that specific moment, Zeebee felt a pinprick on the back of his neck letting him know to stop moping. That was Sora, through the Link established between them, scolding him for moping.

"Alright! Time to enjoy the festival and have fun!"

He was (probably) talking to them, but ended up running off ahead again, excited by everything he saw. If he had a tail, it would be wagging.
