What was once a defensive construct left behind by the fallen empire of Netheril rose to intelligence and now dedicates itself to the defense of Mankind in Nethril's name.

Description

Given Title: Wen

Race: Ascended hairworm, satellite being.

Age: Not applicable

Gender: Asexual, appears neuter

Eye color: Grey

Overbeing/Faction: Myrkul's Vein

Birthplace: Genesis.

Religion: Apatheist

Identifying characteristics: 2.5 meter tall burly biped bearing pale cyan armor all over its body except for the red-colored eye that signifies a Jinhai inhabits. Its surface is covered in plates of psi-armor of various sizes and densities. The Wen has two smaller claws at its midsection for manipulating objects and interacting with mankind.

Physical Condition: Newly furnished, wholly immune to the environmental problems other Ascended Hairworms experience in conventional space.

Languages: Common, English, Draconic, Dethek. A native Wen's language capabilities are extremely poor.

Current residence: Itinerant

Occupation: Inkwell

Personality: A largely docile animalistic intelligence that does not speak but protective of mankind and suspicious of nonhumans. If the Wen has a Jinhai inhabiting it the creature has a sapient intellect even if the Jinhai is not written into an independent body. Should the Jinhai leave the Wen returns to a largely docile animalistic intelligence that speaks rarely. It otherwise shares many of an Ascended Hairworm's curt characteristics but exhibits a great deal more interest in the well being of mankind around it.

Background: Wen are created for the defense of mankind as they can be inhabited by more sapient ascended hairworms or psionic humans to armor them far better against powerful threats. This Wen was created in Genesis in response to a Jinhai returning to request reinforcement of man to demonic threat. As they represent an allegory to mechanized infantry in conventional armies they are equipped with psi-plate capable of regenerating battle damage.

Equipment: Carries cognizance core to use for marshaling its power. It's otherwise equipped with several manifestation slots for psi-blades suitable for human use against demonic or psionic threats causing damage to the attacker. It also has its own larger ferroplasm gladius suitable for close combat with demons. Thick ferroplasm shields are also often used.

Limitations: Wen have a limited mobility compared to Jinhai. They have no worm form and thus cannot fly. They also cannot disincorporate due to the psi-plate and have concerns of accessibility than their more corporeal human counterparts would have. Its central diamond-shaped eye has a very high acuity and through psionics have a much more volumetric sense of the area which would otherwise make their sight monocular. Due to the psi-plate covering its body Wen has a much smaller field of vision and must turn to look at things.

Powers:
  1. Throne of Mind - One may control the seat of the Wen but other hairworms can fit inside. A Wen can eject the one that inhabits it if required though losing a great deal of its sapience. It nonetheless will not permit a being to enter if a Jinhai does not allow it. This partly dematerializes the being inhabited into self-bonded psimass if not a hairworm. Punctures to the Wen that do not incapacitate it or cause explosions in its interior do not pose a significant direct threat to the occupant. If the occupant breathes the Wen must have access to oxygen or use its own reserves of power to manifest a breathable atmosphere. Punctures are less important if that occupant is a Jinhai that has no integrity of organs maintaining dematerialization. A human that inhabits the Wen has full use of their own powers as their latent self-image directs the use of their abilities. Psionics will find the Wen a prodigious fount as the cognizance core of the Wen supports their mind with its pale wellspring of power. Wen are poorly suited to emotional bases of power and will be sluggish to such efforts. Wen must first be breached psionically before the inhabitant on the throne is exposed. While within the throne the dematerialized inhabitant does not need to engage in physical needs if it has to as biological needs are sustained by the Wen's exceedingly tolerant consumption of organics to feed the dematerialized body.
  2. The Throne's Eye - As Wen sight is partly psionic, in the same arc as the eye's visual range, that makes it preternaturally aware of psionic energies in its vicinity. Camouflage or technological cloaking may hide from the inhabitant however depending on its own capacities employed through venue of the throne's eye. The inhabitant will have monoclular vision and volumetric psionic awareness at least.
  3. Psi Armor - Unmarred psi-armor's natural affinity prevents demonic presences from ethereally reaching into its confines to touch the inhabitant on the throne. The armor is strong though predominantly built to resist demonic powers than physical attacks. It is regenerated using eaten metals and its own energy and composed of ferroplasm with a psi-stone scale on its outer layer to resist the passage of metaphysical energies. The Wen must commune with the throne to repair at any speed and in any case mutes its defensive powers to repair and re-weave the armor. The armor can be worn in the absence of pressure or at fairly high pressures but the inhabitant would be wise to bring any protection it needs if it intends to leave the throne.
  4. Hand of the Throne - At the end of its arms are two projectors of the inhabitant's psionic or magical energies. A Jinhai's disintegration beam or other self-destructive powers do not cause the occupant nearly as much damage when projected through a Wen. The projectors can turn to large four fingered hands for use with the ferroplasm gladius and conduct energies through the weapon to those capable. The two smaller three fingered claws on long arms can be controlled by the inhabitant of the throne and are generally used to interact with humans and their constructs at that height.
  5. All-consuming - Wen can eat nearly anything with its large toothed mouth and uses that material to repair its armor.
  6. (Jinhai inhabitant only) Call of the Throne - When it carries a Jinhai upon the throne a Wen can reassemble an instance of mankind at range as long as enough intact parts exist nearby and the head is undamaged. This leaves the person vulnerable but resurrected as their mind must fully inhabit the new parts to employ them with any strength. Often even the memories or psionic power from the bodies used comes with them. It's frequent that those raised by the touch of a Wen have a hodgepodge of memories from the differing parts used. Wen cannot allow a a person it raised to inhabit as that will dismantle its efforts until the person has fully manifested into their body.

So begins...

The black-suited courier left Cain some time ago and it may have left but it had not retreated. The living emperor was somewhere here and a threat to mankind would not stand. Myrkul's Vein had breached this dimension and resources could be fielded though the way would suffer for it. So it returned to a city in chaos now changed with what Myrkul's Vein could manage in so short a time. They hadn't needed a Wen in a very long age. It took a great deal of the wellspring to muster.

The heavy gait of something well-armored waded through miasma standing over 2 meters tall. Hairworm were incapable of breathing and Wen-Jinhai a creature well hidden behind a pale cyan psi-plate. As it pounded into an intersection the silver-eyed biped's kneed a wraith unable to pass through the partly gellar nature of its armor. It took a few hits from the psykers but ignored them suddenly aware of the threat mankind had put under fire.

Wen produced a glowing haft from its mouth the edge of its psionic gladius flaring into existence once in a projector turned armored five-fingered hand. It swung hard at the creature now satisfied it a threat to mankind.

"IMPERATOR VULT!" Jinhai's voice echoed down the street to Cain as its sword came down to dismantle a wraith with showers of disintegration energy.

Skipping down the streets of Wing City, Flandre Scarlet had her hands behind her back and a cheerful smile on her face as she went along without a care in the world. There was certainly a lot of commotion going on around her though! She was curious as to why that was? Looking around, the sights of soldiers and the like were around her...was there a fight or something?

Something didn't seem right...

Her eyes glanced at the various events taking place around her...curious, though at the same time cautious. She saw Jinhai attacking a wraith, the magic from the psykers, and the other guy who looked really spooky with his Winchester rifle! She began approaching Cain's ship, head tilted and those scarlet eyes focused on him curiously. Watching.

William looked confused as Cain told him the situation. Some words that he said didn't sound familiar to William. Psychic and Magic were two of them that did not make sense.
Sir, I'm a bit unfamiliar with several of your words as I was taken from my own war. However, I might be able to provide Medical Assistance to some of your men if they've been shot. If it's physical, I might be able to help. However, I'm afraid that Psychic and Magical injuries are beyond my skills.

As William finished speaking, he saw a young girl approaching Cain's ship. He walked up to her.
This isn't a safe place to be little one. There's some kind of battle going on. You might want to find shelter in cause they start bombing.
He said to her.

The second Wen was too much for the Way to follow the courier ahead. This Wen could feel it collapse but did not worry. There was none sat upon the throne. It merely anticipated the damage Hairworm were not writ with the varieties of emotion for demons to exploit. It violently tore to the fabric of reality as the distended tunnel of the Way shattered around it.

The light Cyan creature was ejected into Jerico's reality with a loud whine of strained dimensional energies furious to reknit themselves. Wen dug a furrow into the path pushing pavestones in front of it. It stood on all fours and shuffled the dirt off with a high speed burst of silt and small rocks. Its cyan carapace was cracked but sealing. The four legged creature bent down with its mouth paved with cyan and black teeth to eat a dislodged concrete bench.

She was feeding birds in the park. Yeah that was right. She was one of those ladies. She was not embarrassed by it either. These birds were not going to eat any other how, this whole city was one industrial middlefinger to nature. Well besides this nice little scenic retreated. Asanj was perhaps content with just feeding the birds and allowing time to pass in her leisure when suddenly a hole in the fabrics of space bended and ripped open rather violently.

The woman was strangely not at all unphased by this. Sitting there staring vacant at it even as the birds flew away. Suddenly the creature made of machinery popped through getting on all fours. Still she did nothing, it was only when it started to chew on her seat did the stranger actually rise from it. Hey.

Despite the calm and very dignified expression on her face her hands slightly shook holding her bag. Deep! BREATH! With an exhale she calmed herself. “I was sitting there.” She spoke to the thing like it somehow understood English.

Allan was woken up from a nearby bench by his phone ringing. It was work, great just what he needed! He reluctantly opens it and to his surprise the message was for a job not too far from him. He looks around the area in a sort of daze and spots the woman and a creature. Jumping to his feet he draws one of his consealed pistols and makes his way over them.

"Ma'm I am going to ask that you try not to panic, I'm here to help. Please don't make any sudden moves." He says calmly approaching her. "I'm Allan from the MSDC, that is the Magical Servalience and Destruction Commity. I need you to start backing up towards me. I'm not sure if that is hostile or not."

A Wen's eye wasn't so much one noticed point your way as feel it upon you. It pivoted slightly to centers single diamond-shaped eye on the human. It smelled human. Without one atop the throne it couldn't discern better. It was unhappy was it eating their home? It shouldn't eat their home.

The large creature opened its mouth and pulled away slowly but a chunk of hard concrete fell out. It hunkered down close to the ground and its bench for the long thin three-fingered claws to try and put the chunk back on. It made a thin pitched reedy noise at its failure and sat on the ground knees placed close. It grabbed a large broken paving stone in both large pincer hands and pantomimed the rock at its open spiny mouth. It waited to see if it had approval.

Asanj chewed her cheek tapping her foot as the massive creature was trying to put together the bench. The crumbled up concrete literally just fell back down to the ground leaving just an awful mess. It seemed hungry and actually responsive so perhaps it was not just some stupid animal brain machine.

At the same time some sort of authority figure arrived on the scene aiming their pistols defensively. The middle aged woman took a long time to sort of assessed him up to down. She very calmly and quietly moved behind the stranger leaving this sort of work to the actual experts.

She looked back to the creature which was giving her a strange look. “You can’t just eat public property.” She told the machine from behind her new magical agent buffer. “Drop it.” She commanded like one would command a pet.

Well that's new. Normally it took more then just producing his weapon to make the target docile but he wasn't about to complain. He makes sure to put as much distance as he can between the woman and the...creature? He couldn't really tell what it is. It looked very advanced but he wasn't about to let his guard down. After motioning to the woman to get behind him he turns his attention back to the creature.

"Do you understand what I am saying?" He asks waiting for a response from the metallic looking thing, his gun still pointed at it.

The line of demarcation between concepts was murky at best to a native Wen. It at best "understood" often only figuratively. Its hardened immovable object of a mind was certainly not an agile one. Blasts of air gave its assent as base noises as it got to its feet, "Pfhah! Pfhah!"

This Wen stood a man and a half tall and nearly a man thick. It backed up and crouched over the hole to put the stone back into the mostly square hole. The dirt was in a pile now but the paving stone fit into the dirt.

"Qvum", it sounded when satisfied with its work.

It then turned sideways to try and sidestep past so it could get in line behind the human.

Much better. Asanj was slightly pleased with herself though the younger man who was protecting her seemed rather on edge. Perhaps he knew something she did not. Still, at the moment the agent felt as long as she could exert some confidence she could keep thing under control. This creature. Was very new.

She should know because she honestly examined the console she kept on her as the creature started to encircle them to reach her. Heh. Nothing. It was as though they were the first or one of the first to encounter it. She noted it’s diet of well concrete and stone. Deciding because of its unusual way of arriving on the scene to dub it JANUS until otherwise corrected. Meaning loosely that it was the master of the doorway.

“Good.” She told the creature. It had done good this time. Hm. Seemed a little attached. She wandered over away from the scene just taking some regular rocks off near a running waterway and making her way over. “Good boy.” Alright. She should not be treating it like a dog, but it was very easy to. She tossed the stones on the ground for it to eat as a treat for its good behavior.

“I leave this in your capable hands.” She commented to the magical agent. She well. She didn’t want to be too much of a distraction or a factor into this authority trying to subdue this still dangerous creature. She made her way out of the park for now.

Dark nights around even a well kept prison were always somehow more dour. However to the figures that waded their way through the dark was where they were born. However not all things evil are away from the light. The a group of Jinhai eroded paths through the undergrowth along with another mind packed four deep. They could afford the expenditure of individuals with appreciative guards that provided materials. The Wen were the first thing they brought across as the Way node expanded. They'd have to move it soon and this secure area seemed the best location. If it suffered from more demonkind then that's what the Wen were for.

The ten foot high Jinhai known to themselves merely as Four emerged from the dark forest with a constellation of sixteen swirling grey eyes. They moved about scanning the grounds for enemies since the Imperial Guard took up defense of Terra. With that purpose so did Myrkul undertake observation of Terra in the Emperor's name. Each eye peers independently from beneath its hood. Behind him emerge four more single unit Jinhai in tow with two Wen each.

The Wen were simple creatures without a human to wear them but were competent fighters on their own unlike the Ductu. They sported pale white armor shells of psionic resistance over plasteel shells. They hadn't any bones to break nor blood to bleed what leverage they maintained were plasteel rods to leverage speed. Their legs shrank as the plasteel moved to allow them to four legs now that there was level ground. Their bodies elongated the head the mouth opening to a inner maw full of white, black, blue, and grey plasteel spikes. A chainsaw grinder for shredding meat and steel.

Four rose a hand pointing to the grounds a psionic command directing Wen around the perimeter to expand the Jinhai's understanding of the layout. Jinhai approached the grounds directly, by way of the gate, pouring through simple bars of physical barrier. Four waited patiently referring the memories of the Wen back to Myrkul.

A figure arrived, cladded in pure golden armor and exuding an aura of holy light. This man did not have much reason to assist such a random place, however a debt must be paid for his return. He wanted to continue passing his knowlage to the many enginseers of his nation but whatever was going on here needed his attention and assistance.

The Emperor walked up to the tall Jinhai before speaking. "Greetings...I heard you required assistance in defending this place? Unfortunately many of my marines are working on rebuilding lost technology, so I am here to assist. What are we defending this place from exactly?" he spoke.

Four turned all sixteen eyes brightening as Jinhai recognized that Imperial voice from the mind to whom it belongs. They had a general idea where the Emperor was when the wake of his mind rattled the Way but found headwinds hard to push tendrils close. The single unit Jinhai at Four's feet kneel toward the Emperor their shroud perturbed to different shapes from radiance by the Living Emperor.

Four spoke the eyes in a rigid pattern regarding the Living Emperor the placid emotionless pattern unchanged, "Honor to you, Living Emperor. I see the tithe of Myrkul's Vein finds you well. It pleases us greatly to once more to be possessed by an Emperor of Mankind.

The gloved hand of Four gestures to the dark building, "We have just arrived to find this place a locus for nonhuman powers and came to investigate. Perhaps to create a better gate to the Altar of Myrkul but we are the tools of your mind, Emperor. Fill us with your will."

In the distance a Wen made an endlessly declining howl as the living chainsaw dismantled a living creature in its path.

"I see...This place houses unknown things. Then let us depart, one less location filled with evil the safer the universe becomes." The Emperor spoke as he began to march to the dark building. No fear or hesitation in each thundering step. And from the sound of things, there were creatures here that required cleansing.

In proximity to the Emperor the Jinhai tuned implicitly. As much as they'd said nothing in them called themselves a people. Merely weapons and tools for Mankind to use doubly so the Emperor. Making themselves as similar nodes as they could for the mind they observe now that they had a point from which to observe. Their own awareness available to the Emperor of Mankind as much as the very deep expanse of Jinhai's collective memory.

Inside their awareness was many things. Such as the map of the Way as Jinhai stretched out throughout this new universe. A deeply nested and vast corpus built over centuries of isolation formed the basis of the psiforms that predicated their technology. The link to Genesis where Myrkul's Vein remained was a far more murky view but view from there of thousands of Wen haunting a black mountain in the warp can be seen. Myrkul itself busied itself with management tasks keeping a tally of psimass of various descriptions as they expand their resource gathering equipment along the vast wheat plain. Thin spires there still under construction were in preparation for creating a wider channel to Myrkul's Vein across the Warp. Some Jinhai in Genesis already bean labeling their constructions with the likeness of the Emperor of Mankind.

There was no doubt in their minds and neither loyalty. No joy and no hate. Dicta held in the Altar of Myrkul that shaped their being named them servants of the Emperor of Mankind but the face curiously missing. Once they'd found another worthy their loyalty hadn't hesitated but now it had a face. They thought of themselves weapons and no more. The robust intellects of Wen were built to resist the influences of some half-remembered enemy of which they knew little and Demonkind. Wen were far more simplistic creatures much huge dogs but held a well-crafted a man sized space in their minds to insulate a human being. They'd consumed several rabbits along the way but paramount in their intellect was the space dedicated to senses and defense. With it they'd tasted the fabric of reality and found it wanting. Defenses held the space together but the walls between here and the Warp weaken badly at the density of the truly mad. While hurling themselves forward at breakneck speed the pair mapped the whole of the outer fence in opposite directions. Their mental leash is minded by Four whom walked quietly alongside the Emperor as no concern of status or approval had weapons.

As the Emperor entered the building, his psychic mind could easily tell that the veil between reality was thin here. It was clear any use of psychic powers here could tear unwanted holes where demons could pour from. Of course the Emperor did not need to rely only on his mind, his very sword was enough to dispatch whatever creature lurked inside. The question was why would anyone build such a building? Some crazed cultists perhaps? Researchers studying powers far beyond their understanding? Such a building was a threat to man itself if the creatures here got loose. Subjecting the place to orbital destruction would be more harmful due to the unstable nature of reality in this place.

The Emperor simply remained quiet, even his footsteps produced no sound. His ears open and alert to even the smallest of sounds. He may be back, but he was still rusty in actual combat. Getting used to a physical body after staying in a spiritual form for a long time was certainly something to get used to. He should be back to normal in a few weeks at most.

Four bent down to inspect a guard station its awareness spreading from roving constellations of eyes. Surfaces where the memory lingered over papers. The freshly rancid taste from motes of food left on a wrapper in a trash can. A place of defense that shouldn't be empty and was used recently. Four pulled on the reins connecting it to the Wen directing them inside it didn't like the iron taint it felt that muted all the other psychic impressions. Something cleaned away negative emotion from the shack like the red human fluid that likely caused them. Demonkind were predators they were desiring the minds and body of mankind but often not the simple creatures Wen were. It's that subterfuge under the skin of mankind to explode out at their corrupted motivations that made them the most dangerous.

As Wen leapt over rear fortifications making their way across the grounds psychic defenses meant to incapacitate fleeing prisoners. Crackling over their white plated armor in the air above the wrought iron fence bombardment rumbled against their dense mental bulwarks but found lacking. The effort grounded into their earthy minds like their sharp toed feet ate into the grass. In a pair they rumbled across the courtyard looking at windows and doors for targets and defences. The creatures easily noted a careless patient peering out at noises too rashly. Wen were seen in the distance arched up to silently peal an alarm across their link to Four. Their third eye saw a taint in the eyes of the bent mind. A carefully tuned psychic filter caught the scent roiling from tears in the fabric serving as barrier to the warp. Their minds categorized the black ripples across the shadows as wrinkles from aftershocks of some distant penetrative event.

Four considered the raw sense of Wen. One of the four smaller Jinhai loped forward to the Emperor to vocalize the thoughts as is custom for Mankind, "There is a breach in progress. We feel human defenders have been destroyed and the suffering cleansed to avoid notice. Wen smell cracks and see tainted human minds. It is possible the event of a shadow being near our current Way gate has buckled the weakness here. Our conjecture is it may crack soon so the enemy hides but it may be yet be too sturdy for many proper Demonkind to cross. Jinhai must observe the void behind defensive walls to know the scope of our work."

At dark stone and burnished wood door carefully laid with protective patterns of some sort he continued, "The Jinhai can repair cracks if the taint is removed."

"So something did eliminate the guards stationed here...Obviously since we are here to eliminate whatever is inside this place. Whatever is here is cunning enough to not leave any trace behind. But tainted human minds? Is it Chaos in origin? Or is it some unknown cult doing the work here? Whatever it is they clearly intend to shatter the barrier here and unleash deamons onto the mortal plane. If I was not here the local Guardsman would not be enough, the planet would be overwhelmed and we would have to resort to cleansing the whole planet in fire...I shall locate the source myself, my mind can pick up on their hiding spot." The Emperor spoke as he closed his eyes and channeled his psychic might. He soon began to search for the presence of the enemy he was looking for, he had no time to wait around hoping to bump into them.

As the spread of the Emperor's mind washed over ominous stone buildings and found noxious minds that gibber there. Inside thick walls built to resist superhuman prisoners pockets of sane minds walled themselves off against the intruders as best they could. The shadows crawled here with feral things wild animals of the shadow plane driven out from weakened space by hellish predators of the dark. The guard that was left held line with strong minds and honor but gained no territory. They'd managed to improvise a high-gain projected beam communication with the imperial guard to send their call for help. In the center of one building the darkness in between buildings buckled with a shockwave imploding it out of reality. The flotsam held the hole shut but the Emperor's mind could feel what it was doing to prisoners caught nearby. The most violent fell first and ardently worked to clear the blockage. Others lost their minds to the dark and howled along the halls loud shouting vestiges of men who once were. In the deep of the basement humans could be heard suffering the familiar whispering of demonkind. A Dispayre that crawled through the cracks along with deepest shadows worked there tirelessly trying to rend its way into a room with equipment that held the cracks in reality together and the barrier intact. The humans a waiting sacrifice to demonkind but the Psi stabilizer kept a Daemonette from manifesting fully from one. She shouted litanies and directions to the bondless Dispayre unable to act herself for now.

The Jinhai responded in time beside the emperor when it felt the emperor giving it notice, "We expect it to be feral shadow in origin but a demon presence of interest to conceal may aggravate matters. We feel stitches in reality holding the dying barrier together. We are unsure of the shadow dragon's allegiances but it is presumed an enemy of mankind. Umbralkind are known intractable hostiles that attempt to access the Fallen Emperor's city fortress that lies empty. We bring umbralkind into the light by a Wen's disjoining claw or by Psiblade."

A small island-continent of Azeztulite once white now turned black floated in Ætherius at the whim of the winds there. Its color to those creatures that try to breach its gate into Genesis found to be a thick layer of Wen hiding their armor plates until reaching out of the throng to capture interlopers. Their assumption that this place was of the Warp and to not gain notice by Demonkind until prepared to defend this piece of earth had not impressed upon Myrkul's Vein its mistake until just now. The light at the top of the crystal mountain blinked wildly as Wen were called home to be redeployed. Jinhai instead emerged to gather Wen for forays into the fluid by merging together into a worm that could carry one. It took roughly six Jinhai to carry the creatures packed inside their segmented bodies. So off the stubby meter wide meters-long worms into the depths of Aetherius the beacon of Myrkul behind them to navigate the dark.

Most more distant motes suffered the peal to crawl through rubble for succor the fluid things that they were. They headed for their own version of mechanized infantry as with the advent of Deiyi's influence Myrkul was left free to dispatch Wen from Genesis.

On four legs creatures clad in dark ferroplasm and bright white psi-stone quite burly enough to support a space marine on their back loped into the theater. Simple animalistic minds without an inhabitant they were isolated from psychic effect limiting their intellect. Even Jinhai had to give them their purposes verbally. On their back a five inch thick ferroplasm shield with a relief of the Emperor upon it. As 1. rounds hit the shield they loud clangs ring out stuck metal left inside the clay-like surface. Underneath it a conduit gladius suited to amplify the efforts of Psykers than idle mankind. Slowly threads of ferroplasm forced out the rounds through their thick hide as well the shield though Wen did their best to evade through broken cover. Others pounded their way up walls to get to sniper positions the maw of a Wen a circular grinder that could disjoin patterns in shadow, flesh, and matter alike. Glass and detritus falling through pumped out as grey dust from thin slits in its cheeks as the aether from whence it came. Myrkul knew it couldn't merely kill the umbralkind or consume the corruption - they must be wholly dismantled lest they return. As soon as Wen mounted rooftops or pounded through windows the they pounced at shadowy targets aiming to to pin them long enough to get wailing chainsaw mouth around a limb or commando's head. Teeth both immaterial and physical flew down their gullet eager to reduce enemy pseudo-matter to dust.

Four others diverted down an alley where beleaguered bleeding imperial guards were assaulted shadow hounds and tainted Mankind. A leap crushed the hound the other pounding the tainted one pulping its rib cage. Two forming the rear planted their shields in the earth for cover as the two facing the guards angled their own and huddled under it. The armor on their chest clunked and unwinding the armor to split the chest. Underneath a shimmering hole shaped like man small metal handles with which to grab on each side. Jinhai couldn't get into the area with Draco's screaming to repair the loss of hearing but the Wen could at least keep the soldiers of mankind in the fight dematerialized until they could be ejected into healers. A Wens' minds were well armored but too slow to ponder much more nuance. That was what the gleaming throne of mind was for.

As she looped the head off one Grey Knight she felt her beloves roar and dark energies wash over her, like a wind in a meadow his voice, his echoing wonderful voice echoed over her, washing her as if in a rainfall. The shadow Queen looked up and let the echo of Dracos roar wash over her, it felt strengthening. Energising. Wonderful.

Her beloved was whole. which meant there was little that could harm him. She heard the screaming of the sodliers calling for bombardment, well this was gonna suck. But she had made up her mind, As the Grey Knights started moving again she put her swords away. Once again she stood in their path. with two of their number lost to her blades. it was time for the rest to behold her dark fury.

With a ripple of shadows, black scales seemingly bleeding of shadows rippled across her fair skin as she gained hieght and mass. A feral roar was heard from her as shadows shifted around her to emense size. When it was over, gone was the young woman so skilled with a pair of deadly swords, in her place stood the feet of a massive creature. Not quite the same size as her beloved, Kethend was a third smaller than he. Yet even in her true Dragon form, she was ready for battle

A sweep of the tail wrecked a Baneblade as its crew scrambled for safety, another sweep and she plucked a pair of Grey Knights into the air and juggled them briefly before letting them hammer to the ground before stepping her massive feet upon them. While her black toothed maw bent downwards, aiming to take a bite or six of the remaining Grey Knights.

But the damage was done, the Shadowlings had failed to keep the portasl open long enough, not even her Aaetherspace army could get through if she even tried to open a portal. these creatures, clad in armor making them twice as heavy yet extremely silly looking when she thought about it, had her attention

She was ready to end this

A ritual gone wrong.

As the orbital bombardment came, the Shadowlings dispersed, not wishing to be caught in the fire that would cleanse the area of all who were unholy. And as such, the rest of the Legion in the square vanished as well with the fire, leaving only those righteous few of the Emperor's forces.

And the Portal.

Now unstable, the thing began to pull. Pull everything it could towards it's center of mass with great force, strong enough to uproot centuries old trees and topple buildings. The pull occurred for a good minute in total before the portal had shrunk down to the size of a walnut. The Shadow Commandos had ceased fire long ago, and vanished to help the fighting on the front lines.

There was no sound, nor light, as the portal exploded violently, as if a small thermonuclear warhead detonated merely five feet above the ground. Darkness spread out, and began to corrupt and assault the very souls and bodies of all those it touched. The surrounding area was now pure Obsidian, for one mile outwards, a singular crater of Obsidian, steaming as it cooled, had formed.

The Churning tide of Battle.

With the arrival of more reinforcements for the forces of the Righteous, and the assault upon the Legion's lines, the shadows replied in turn, unveiling the Screaming Minotaurs, huge, twelve foot beasts weighing two pounds of muscle, screaming at the top of their agonizingly pained lungs while wearing great battle armor, swinging around axes with blades chipped and rusted, but strong and sharp as well ready for battle, large enough to cleave ten men in half at once with ease, the poles that formed their handles, a dark and mysterious wood that was resistant to most if not all forms of assault as well.

As the Shadow Commandos were attacked, they would respond with quick and expertly trained martial arts and blade work, silent as ever, their visors showed no emotion, nor did their body language for that matter. They were told and trained to do one thing: Kill. So that's all they did. That's all the thought, that's all they breathed, that's all they fed upon: Killing.

The Legion continued its slow and steady advance, filling in the ranks as more and more of their numbers fell. The Slashers and Hounds stuck to the flanks , boxing in each contingent of Guardsmen and cutting them off allowing for the Bashers in their Cohort armor to advance, gunning down all those in their paths with .55 Caliber rounds or slashing them apart with their corrupted weapons such as swords and spears.

Draco's tail, as it moved, destroyed buildings and sent chunks of them flying towards those fighting, uncaring of who or what the chunks struck or killed, only that damage was done.

The Main Event.

Draco's wing moved with incredible speed and merely deflected the slash of light off of its scales, sending it arcing into the buildings off to the side. Not only was he large he was still practical. As his wing moved back to its space behind him, the Dragon King of Shadows blinked. The Shadows were moving, however he did not need to search them to find the source, and raised his head proud as he looked down upon his wife and fellow Shadow Dragon, Kethend, in her own glory.

'Interesting that she is here...' he thought to himself before returning his attention back to the Emperor of Mankind, and then moving quickly, aiming to slash across his body with his fore claw and then smash it after forming a sort of fist with the clawed appendage. He moved faster than anyone would think he could in that state, as fast if not faster than he did in his more humanoid form, his movements blurs and whooshes of winds as he assaulted the Emperor with slash after slash after smash. His wings would flare out and flap once to create a wind powerful enough to likely pin the Emperor to a wall long enough for the Dragon to smash the building on top of the man.

From his nostrils, Shadow Fire rained down along the battle field and began to corrupt the land once more, the black and purple flames nigh inextinguishable as they raged on. Draco's tail slammed into the ground to create a shock wave that would topple more buildings, and claim more souls for the Legion as well as likely knock many off balance, allowing for the Legion to surround them and attack mercilessly. His movements were accompanied by various snarls, growls, hisses and roars, none of which hinted at fatigue nor pain.

He could do this all day.

Ritual Zone
"Our job is done brothers! Relocate from the area immediately!" The Brother Captain shouted as the remaining Grey Knights either not killed during the battle, or sucked into the unstable portal activated Teliporter Homers and teleported out of the area to return back to the front lines.

Imperial Guardsman, Front Lines
Lemen Russ battle tanks shook the battlefield in more ways than one. Demolisher Battle Tanks armed with a Demolisher Cannon, a short-range, large-bore ballistic cannon. It fired large calibre, rocket-assisted siege shell right into the massive concentrations of Shadow Legion soldiers exploding huge hordes. Executioner Battle tanks armed with a Plasma Destroyer. An extremely temperamental weapon whiched fired superheated Plasma at the enemy hordes almost chewing them out as it fired in bursts. Exterminator Battle Tanks armed with a Twin-linked Autocannon, an automatic, self-loading heavy ballistic weapon that fires a high velocity hail of solid shells. It fired like a machine gun into the enemy ranks chewing up lightly armored infantry and making work of the more armored creatures such as the minotaurs. And Finally the Baneblade, with 11 different weapons from Heavy Bolters, Las-cannons, A Demolisher cannon and the Baneblade Cannon. The super heavy tank of the Imperial Guard led the assault gunning down all in its path.

The Guardsman all across the district died in droves, either gunned down or slashed apart. However they were all inspired to fight, for everyone that was killed the Guardsman faught with more vigor for each man that died. Lasfire opened fire, grenades were used, even attempts to fight off the enemy slashers with their bayonets at the end of their rifle. More continued to advance as Infantry reinforcments arrived.

Orbital beams continued to fire, and as soon as the smaller dragon was spotted some of the ships and even fighters began to target Kethend.

Grey Knight Terminators
The remaining four Grey Knights stood together as Kethend went down to take a bite joping to devour them all. "Our fury is made manifest! Face the might of the Emperor demon!" The Terminators stood shoulder by shoulder and combining their Psychic might their spears began to now glow yellow. They also felt the effects of a Librarian and surprisingly they went on the offense. They Teliported all across on her back. Spears imbued with the Emperors Holy Light and impaled her back with them. "Retribution for the fallen! Holy vengeance shall be delivered!" They roared holy accusations at her as they continued to stab at her.

The Duel
As the Emperor charged at Draco, the Shadow Dragon would attempt to slash at him to shich he blocked it wit heae with his sword despite the Dragons speed, he was keeping up with him. The dragon soon tried to smash him with wist to which he used his strength to redirect the fist to his side punching the street and shattering the ground.

The Dragon continued to strike like a blur, unleashing a flurry of slashes at The Emperor, he continued to charge forward blocking each attack becoming ga blur of his own. Steel met claw head on. However he was soon thrown back by the powerful wings of the Dragon sending him into a building which fell on him. In a matter of second the Emperor burst from the rubble and this time bending the warp to his will he appeared right on the dragons arm, he would then attempt to impale his sword into the dragons arm before dragging it through the dragons arm to make his way to his head. If unsuccessful he would just begin slashing the dragons arm and chip away at its scales.
