Zephyrus

An old anomalous automaton with dreams to "Reach The Stars". Literally.

0 · 1,655 views · located in Eden

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by CaptainGrue

Description

Race:Pseudo-sentient automaton. ergo A robot whose mannerisms emulate sentience.
Appearance: Steampunk aesthetics, bronze/copper look and rusted. His eyes stand out as bright yellow lights and he has a latch on his chest that opens up to store things. A chest-chest, yes. That is it's name.
Personality: Eccentric, excited and curious. Also emulates feelings of envy. His personality is subject to change, however, due to Adaptive Self-Programming (ASP).
Equipment & Abilities: Zephyrus has very well articulated speech and a chest-chest in his... chest. He also has a Photomemory Amnesia System (PAS) which locks Zephyrus from accessing parts of his enormous knowledge of lexicon until he comes into contact with the subject. eg he will only learn of a spoon when he sees it or hears someone talking about one. Once he unlocks a piece of information, it is permanent unless deleted.
Background: Old Zephyrus was originally a nameless bot built in the 30th 19th century (whatever that means) and was built by a Captain Darky Diggins to provide the world with the first robotic intelligence that could develop aspirations. Sadly, he took the programmed memo "Reach for the stars" literally and quickly became antisocial due to becoming obsessed with building a spaceship with no real understanding of spacial engineering. He was shutdown mid show by Captain Diggins and was never turned on again until a coincidental rock in the wind bumped him back to life.

He had been abandoned on Blackrock. Had he traveled the stars without being active? Preposterous! Captain Diggins would never abandon him! Feeling lonely, he bickered to himself when a rush of wind and sand blasted through the bot's body and caught him by surprise.

"TSSST!" He buffered as the sand moved his circuitry, rusting paint and tearing some metal off of his chassis. He churned as he spoke, determined to spark speech with the anomaly, "Designating subject as 'Zephyr'. Greetings Zephyr! This unit does not have a name!"
The sandstorm did not stop to speak, however, and hurried past to the east. The robot ran after it.

"Zephyr, wait! I wish to engage in a conversation about the uses of opossum ink!"
The robot eventually slowed to an easterly walk. He thought extensively about the zephyr. It could fly, it could reach the stars that the bot longed to touch. What was it searching for? The robot decided then use the name of Greek God Zephyrus to remind himself of his plight, acting as the west wind. Well, It was really much more complex than that (programming and all ikr) but to appeal to human minds that was the explanation he came up with.

Other: He has some really strange quirks which may or may never come to show. nt tlln u enything moar lel

Jarrod questioned Jena about why he should set Malaficus free and she laughed in a tone so wicked that it felt like the blood in his veins had froze. After she finished laughing her eyes began to glow a bright white and the entire bar around Jarrod began to shimmer and shift. Jarrod was no longer standing in the bar and Jena quickly explained that they were in a place called Katash. Jena's voice was filled with hatred when she spoke the word. Then a scene played out in front of Jarrod as he watched a man wearing a dark green robe approach what looked like some kind of summoning circle. Jarrod never fully understood or trusted magic of any kind and he soon found himself loathing his idea to come to Blackrock in the first place. Despite Jarrod being unfamiliar with the situation he was in he stood silently and watched like he was trying to piece together a puzzle and understand the big picture. Jarrod watched as the robed man summoned Malaficus and Jena explained that the man's name was Karzam. Karzam was a court mage that was responsible for Malaficus's imprisonment and Jarrod could see that just mentioning the mans name infuriated Jena to no end.

Jarrod crossed his arms as he watched and he quickly figured out that there must have been some kind of war going on and that Karzam desired help from Malaficus to win the war. Malaficus told Karzam that there was a price to be paid that was equal to the help Karzam had requested. Jarrod had no doubts about where that would lead as the price was undoubtedly going to be more than Karzam was willing to pay. Instead of doing the smart thing and walking away Karzam took out some kind of amulet and attempted to force Malaficus to do his bidding. Jarrod was far from surprised when two shadowy figures appeared behind Karzam and impaled him. As Karzam fell to the ground he managed to bind Malaficus to the tower they were in before the life faded from his eyes. Jena then explained that the amulet was unable to compel Malaficus to obey, but it was able to force spirit rules upon him and that he had been imprisoned for over six thousand years.

"God your old.....that said I hope I look that young when I'm your age", Jarrod said with a smile.

Jena then moved towards the balcony as Malaficus screamed in pure rage. Jarrod followed Jena to the balcony as she pointed downward and told him to take a look. Jarrod was no stranger to death and had seen more than his fair share of deplorable acts, but he watched stunned as he watched the entire city being drowned in sand. Jarrod looked over at Jena with a mix between shock and disgust for what Malaficus had done. She had a tear in her eye as she said she destroyed this world on that day. She then told him that her lord was displeased for what Malaficus had done and that he took away his powers as well as bound his soul to Blackrock. A living being had to break the necklace of their own free will in order to release him.

"Pfft well I would feel bad for you if you hadn't destroyed an entire world! Now I'm thinking you deserve every second that your bound to this rock! ", Jarrod said angrily.

The world around Jarrod began to shimmer and shift again as the vision faded back into the bar. Jena the explained that she believed she had suffered for her crimes and asked if six thousand years wasn't enough.

Jarrod glared at the woman and said," Well you killed billions of people so the way I see it maybe you should spend a few billion years stuck to this rock".

Jarrod could understand why Malaficus was angry, but he could see no justification for wiping out an entire planet. Jena then proceeded to tell him that she had manipulated, seduced, made deals, and even begged in order to be released, but everyone that agreed to help Malaficus ended up trying to enslave him. She then proceeded to state that Jarrod seemed different from the others and that he showed compassion in his actions. She talked of how he treated ARI like a person instead of a tool. Jarrod looked over at the flying drone with a smile as Jarrod knew that at least in this Jena was not lying. ARI was far more than a robotic tool to Jarrod instead the AI had become his best friend the only person he trusted completely. Jarrod turned his attention back to Jena as she continued by saying that she thought he could resist the temptation to enslave and succeed where so many others had failed. She then added that Malaficus still had the ability to wipe out Blackrock and would do so if Jarrod didn't free Malaficus. Jarrod had to admit that Jena was a master manipulator as she was using his greatest weakness against him....His conscience.

"I.....I guess I don't really have a choice then do I? Fine, but if I'm helping you I'm setting a few ground rules! One....from here on out no more lying Jena if I catch you in another lie I walk. Two.....no more frolicking about in my mind without my permission....If you do then you can rot for another six thousand years. And three.....Once your free you will spare the people of this world and other world's cause if I bring about the end of the universe my boot will find your ass in the world of spirits", Jarrod said giving Jena a slight smile.

"Would it not be a good course of action to make financial gain one of your conditions Jarrod", ARI said.

"That a girl ARI!", Jarrod said smiling at the drone before turning back to Jena.

"Yes and I do expect compensation for this......double my usual rates since your having me play around with spirits and magic.....those are my conditions you can either except them or.....you can wipe out the entire planet and count grains of sand for another six thousand years....your choice Jena.....err Malaficus.....err whoever you are", Jarrod said as he sat back down in the chair and awaited her answer.

An electronic voice coupled with releases of steam bickered with itself from afar, heading from the desert nowhere-s to the bar. The voice became more and more coherent the closer it came.

"TSSST! Rerorearseezeffer-TSST! Stareorechpaace- RERR-pffft-TSSS-Reach for the stareeoooor..."
The voice powered down just before it reached the door. As another more seldom wanderer brushed past the robot with a hostile mutter the bot began booting back up, flicking his head back up with his spotlight-eyes switching on with an audible *CLICK*
He then began to quietly utter prompts as he twitched his limbs back into action, yelling much louder at the end-prompt of the sentence.

"TSSST! Reinitiating booting up power couplings-ONE HUNDRED PERCENT!"
A winding up noise rose like a toy rose as he began moving again, thrusting one left arm forward to force open the battered door. It survived.

"TSSST! Recalibrating start-up command engines- METERS ARE IN THE GREEN!"
Sand was now buffered out of all the robot's nooks and crannys, releasing dust into the musty air for with the robot did not care for.

"SSSsss..! REGENERATING STABILIZING ZEFF-ER-US IS NOW ACTIVE!"
Zephyrus took a moment to pause, quickly jutting his head to observe everyone in the bar. He then spoke in a much more tuned voice. He no longer spoke in a genderless monotone but rather a light and whimsical British accent with an electrical undertone, tying it together. It was vocally male, as well.

"Gree-Gree-Greetings and saluta-tations, sirs and ladies. Has anybody seen the w-w-w-w-w-wind?"
Zephyrus continued to situate himself on a chair opposite table to where Zeck was sitting. As observed in the past minute, this sitting on chairs seemed to be the norm here.

A man seated at another table stood up and moved to speak with the authoritarian figure at the bar. He returned to his seat with a glass of liquid. Obviously, Zephyrus figured, this was an establishment of the distribution of beverages. Of course, information was lacking in his department. So then Zephyrus too stood up to speak to the authoritarian figure at the bar.
The bartender had scars, his skin almost rock. Zephyrus deduced this man had been in some fights. The nature of this world was reason enough for his skin.

"Sir-r-r?"
The bartender seemed the least bit amused by Zephyrus' getup. His voice had the sound and splinters of the sandstorm outside.
"You look like shit. Now before you start rattling on, I want to know who sent you in?"
"Why if I were to speak literally it would be Zephyrus, sir."
"Who the fuck's that? And why doesn't he come in here himself?"
"Z-z-z-Zephyrus is the Greek God of the Westerly wind. He is already in this room with us, and technically he h-h-has no gender."
"Is your programming faulty? Who sent you in. Now answer the question."
His eyebrows seemed to correspond with his frustration.
"This unit is Zephyrus, sir. I wish to know if this establishment distributes spaceships as well as beverages."
The bartender chuckled shortly before pulling out a cheap looking hand cannon and directing it at Zephyrus's head.
"Get the hell out you delusional bot."
"Please, sir, I o-o-nly-"
*BANG*
It was only to the right of Zephyrus' head, causing a woman entering the bar to flinch. Zephyrus would have to give up here.
"Your point has been made, sir. Farewell."

The rusted robot clinked his way out of the bar and back into the sandstorm, to head west again in search of the zephyr's secret.

Zephyrus continues to wander the Blackrock deserts, heading East. Occasionally a gust of sand and wind rushes past him, at which point Zephyrus will attempt to engage in a conversation. But his fellow interlocutor would never speak, and instead continued to blow from the West.

Pieces of metal would erode away from his chassis, and quickly become blown away or buried in dust. This would be Zephyrus's fate.

It was a moment of calm in the otherwise sandstorm ridden Blackrock. But Zephyrus hobbled on, buffering out dust when need be. He spoke senseless jibber jabber about "hypercake sumodrives" and the wind he was following. But then the bot stopped, for in his path there was a very curious individual. Perhaps this was the zephyr, who had finally come to speak with him. But not a moment too soon and a second individual appeared beside them, seemingly out of nowhere. His ASP unit began wheezing as Zephyrus processed the situation at hand. A cooling fan turned on inside the bot's head, where the core of the ASP was located.
PROCESSING... IS THIS UNIT MALFUNCTIONING? ENTIRELY POSSIBLE. UNDERGOING MAINTENANCE.
A large puff of dust was expelled from Zephyrus's interior, escaping from all his joints and cracks.
ANALYSIS COMPLETE. SEVERE DAMAGE TO OUTER CHASSIS SUSTAINED. VISUAL AND PROCESSING CORES OPTIMAL. INITIATING GREETING SUBROUTINE.
The rusty tin can of a robot began to make his way over to the two figures. Each step was accompanied by a whirring noise and the sound of something being knocked around inside his chest-chest. Zephyrus would appeal to these people. He had to.

Lukas stared at the woman that had appeared, thanks to his concoctions. As he looked over her, he also heard another thing moving towards him. He turned rather abruptly, and saw it was a robot. Although he didn't know why, he rummaged through his backpack until he found an acid brew he had readied back at his lab. He hoped the lady could hear him, and he began: "I'm sorry if I've inconvenienced you, but right now, I fear for your health. An... android of sort is approaching. Get behind me."

Mae got up and steadied herself, walking timiidly behind one nof the men as he had instructed. Looking over his shoulder, she observed what looked more like a walking trash-compactor than it did a robot coming towards them. Slipping on a pair of brass knuckles, she watched with unease. Whoever these guys were, it was clear they were fans of alchemy. The man in front of her had quite the collection of bottles filled with mysterious contents. She hoped with all her might that these two (well I suppose three) beings wouldn't harm her. From the looks of them, they appeared to have no hostile intentions, but you can never be sure when you are on Blackrock. Just in case, she slid her hand over the hilt of one of her katanas, if the need to attack arised.

Zephyrus positioned himself roughly 10 ft/3 metres in front of them. His eyes flickered and his head turned to maintain eye contact with both of his audience. A puff of dust was expelled from Zephyrus's chest. Their feelings of anxiety were lost on Zephyrus, who waited still a very awkward amount of time before speaking. But when he did, an array of orchestrated hand movements and polite body gesture accompanied him. "G-G-G-Geh..." A puff of dust was expelled from Zephyrus's head. "Apologies." His voice was definitely electronic and would've been entirely monotonous if it weren't for the subtle changes in pitch and volume.

"Greetings and salutations, sirs and ladies. Has anybody seen th-the wind?"
Suddenly Zephyrus stopped in his movements, with his arms stretched out and hands open. His head continued to swivel and flicker every now and then.

"Um... The wind? I don't understand, what do you mean?" Lukas responded to the robot. He then took a few steps back, pushing the lady behind him, making sure he covered her. He stared at it; it was badly damaged. He thought for a moment, and then he sat down and pulled a few things from his backpack. He asked the robot: "Um, sir? Do you mind if I... attempt to repair you? Gimme a minute to see what I can do." He pulled a variety of things from his pack; moss, rust, metal shards, a few shiny stones, and his secret catalyst. He took a water bottle, and poured it into an empty flask, and began brewing something...

Once he was done, he stared at his reflection in the bottle. It was a greenish, brownish mix, and it smelled a bit like the lush forests of Terra. He took a small slip of paper and labeled the bottle "Regeneration; Mechanical Mod. Untested". He slowly approached the robot and gave him the flask. "Drink it, if you may. If I'm right, this can "fix" you." Once the flask was in the android's hands, he retreated back to the lady.

"I'm pretty sure I can protect myself, sir. But if you insist, I'll comply." Mae rolled her sleeves and folded her arms in thought. Should I run or wait and watch? Her mind was busy in thought, assessing the situation with utmost care. Chances were, if that bucket of bolts turned out to be hostile, (Which was highly unlikely,) than She most likely could take it on. If the man decided to turn against her, she reasoned that he looked a bit scrawny, and probably wouldn't last long. However, he had a great advantage considering all his potions and buffs. He might make a considerable opponent If he used his alchemy to its best effect.

Cracking her neck, she examined The man's features. Most likely human. Probably from Terra. A little on the thin side by the looks of him. "What is your name, by the way?" He seemed to preoccupied to notice until he began walking towards her. Shrugging, she pulled her hood up over her head. A gust of wind flew by, filled with sand and grit. It stung her eyes a little, but Its only so long after being on Blackrock that you get used to that sort of thing.

Examining the automaton, she noted the fact that it seemed to have a storage compartment located in its torso region, a "chest-chest" If you will. Its outer chassis was quite worn and weathered from the planet's harsh conditions. If the man's strange concoction did anything, it would have to be much more than subtle to have any effect on the robot. It seemed to be made of brass and copper alloy, but It was hard to tell through the damage. The poor thing probably had trouble moving without falling apart in some way.

Mae reasoned that the situation was most likely safe, so she stayed where she was.

"My name is Lukas," said the alchemist. "And you're probably wondering why you're here." He kept eye contact on the robot. Was his potion working? He couldn't tell; he hoped it helped to some degree. "Well, I've summoned you to request assistance. I need to reach an oasis a distance away from here. There, I'll find the herbs and ores I require for keeping my potion stock. I'd appreciate some company; for safety, of course. If you'd rather return to wherever you were, then take this," he explained, as he passed her a flask labeled "Clearance". In all honesty, he hoped she'd choose to stay.

Mae examined the rather unappetizing bottle in her hand, but then handed it back. "I'll help you. But let me give you one warning; Great Remæus, If you try to turn on me, my mastersword will be lodged in your neck faster than speed itself. And I doubt there is a potion that can cure that." Straitening her hair so that it was not in her face, her attitude softened. "My name is Mae Dawkins, swordsmaster of Arkende village. Apologies for my harsh tone, Lukas. i tend to get a bit....frustrated with people when I'm anxious." She glanced back at the automaton behind Lukas. "So your name's Zephyrus? Interesting. I haven't seen the wind, and I doubt my friend here has either. However, I would suggest looking for something a little more tangible than 'th-th-the wind', Zephyrus." She half-smiled at the naive little robot.

"So where to first, Lukas?"

MAE AND LUKAS UPLOADED.
Zephyrus was holding the flask in his bronze hand. He observed it, analyzing the components and predicting the effect if he were to take it. CONCOCTION SAFE. HE TELLS THE TRUTH. He raised the potion to what would've been his mouth, and hesitated. "I d-d-d-d-do not have the ability to drink. Reparation seems unlikely, sir." Zephyrus then decided he had better acknowledge their questions about the wind, so he opened his chest-chest and placed the flask in there. He noticed Mae's sort-of-smile, and as such his voice became a little more excited. INITIATE HUMOUR-RESPONSE. "A pleasant joke, madam! I hope my hilarity has been realised in your eyes, for I am confounded by wit! You see, I am searching for the Zephyr. It-It-It-" Something fizzled and whirred deep inside Zephyrus's head. "... It always gets away from me. Perhaps there are those that avoid niceties with purpose." Zephyrus recalled his confrontation with the bar manager. "Yes. My search may have been in vain, indeed." DEVELOPMENT IN ATTITUDE ACKNOWLEDGED. ASP FUNCTIONAL. EXCITING.

"I would enjoy nothing more than to accompany you on your escapades, but I..." Zephyrus spun around, searching for something. POSSIBILITY OF SPACE TRAVEL HERE: NOUGHT. POSSIBILITY OF SPACE TRAVEL WITH NEW ACQUAINTANCES: EXISTENT. He spun around again to face Lukas. "May I join you? If that wouldn't b-b-be a bother, of course. I have a chest-chest." Zephyrus opened and closed the latch on his chest. "It seems this unit-It seems that I don't have all too much to do now."

A flash of light Shines in the distance. It was bright. Bright enough to see from miles. It was as if a nuclear bomb had been set off, but no crater had been left. Nor radiation. But a man was left there. Wearing a blue and white jumpsuit with the numbers 101 on it. his name, was jack. Jack looked around the new territory. It was dusty.....must be back in the capital wasteland. He took another look around.....no destroyed buildings. Mohave wasteland? He look up and he saw a planet. It was daylight.....and it wasn't the moon. Defiantly wasn't the moon. He wasn't even back on earth. "DAMN IT! You do one, ONE modification on a tele porter, It sends you to a different planet......and its not even pretty." Jack yelled at himself. He needed to get back to Janet.....but for now, he was stuck here, and his teleporter, or the "ransportalponder" Was fryed.

Lukas was about to say welcome, when a bright flash blinded him momentarily. He yelled rather loudly and suddenly, and even threw one of his liquid grenades up in midair. He felt his amulet trigger, and he recovered almost immediately. He saw that the flask he'd thrown was above Mae, and pushed her out of the way. Soon after, he heard the crash of his bottle fall, and the hiss of one of his acidic grenades burn through the floor. He looked at himself, and at Mae, and at the robot. Were they OK? Was he OK? FUCK, he was NOT okay. He yelled at the top of his lungs as a small portion of the brew fell on his left hand, and reduced it to raw bone.

He calmed down as his hand went numb. He took a water bottle, and washed off the remaining acid on his bony hand. He stared at it; the only reason his skeleton hadn't fallen apart is because of his magic amulet, which he had filled with his strongest medicinal brew that morning. It would take a few hours, but his hand would regenerate. He was sure of it.
