Setting
The man, if that is what you wanted to call him, had many feline features. ears, eyes, nose, all those of a tiger or lion. His hands ended in claws, and his legs were digitigraded, as he walked upon the pads of his toes. A long furred tail curled around him, twitching from the pain he felt from crashing into the tree.
He hissed, baring his teeth, sharpened canines mostly, opened a single green eye to glare at the portal, which promptly shut. This had him on his feet in moments, as he leapt and jumped, vainly attempting to pass back through the gateway.
A moment passed, and then another, and he looked around slowly, fear filling his eyes. He was in an unknown place, sent here by a mistake in a spell that should have been simple. He had opened world gates before, used them many times to travel between major cities. He didn't think that a cracked hereafter stone would make such an impact on the spell, but alas, his mistake had placed him here, in a land he did not know, with no way of returning home.
Flynn's tail furled as her third eyelid crossed over to allow blue-veined black slit-eyes to flit in. Her retina gleamed silver at the feline male and with all that jumping made it apparent he at least didn't have any obvious weapons. Flynn was a small female with a stooped posture of her kind that left the top over head barely over an average human's hip.
Flynn called out in her broken common a hard singsong and fluted edge to common given her syrinx, ♫It goes one way, male. No knowing if other way too! Stuck, like me?♫
He sniffed the air, taking in all sorts of foreign and strange scents, until he caught one that seemed at least not to be from a plant. He pointed his nose directly at where it came from and continued to snarl, waiting for the creature to come out of hiding, even as he prepared to leap away from a surprise attack.
He didn't come from a kind world, and he knew very well that caution was given well before trust could be earned.
Flynn smelled of ozone, copper, and carbon. Her black feathers fluffed for a moment as a small 1" diameter floating worm emerged from her neck. It floated like it couldn't fall and extending an illusory line over to a plant began turning greenery into dust as it sucked the life from whatever crammed into its maw. Flynn's blue crest raised high looking over N'dal with overlarge blue-veined black slit irises.
"I just... Something went wrong, I used a world gate and it, well it didn't take me where it should have." He spoke in halting words, very much unsettled by the creature before him. "Whatever you are, I'm no danger to you. Leave me be."
A mouse tried its luck to sneak through the greenery but failed to Flynn's agile hands. She talked as it squeaked, ♫Still look for interesting things in too much plant!♫
She dangles the flailing mouse dangled from her claws at the worm. Four quadrant-vanes of the long worm's mouth show a hollow center with a cloud inside. It shoots upward then crawls inside the furry creature desiccating it from inside.
Shrugging Flynn chirps at him ♫ReeReeRee. Well if not dangerous then good for me. You are interesting in stupid forest of too many trees!♫
When he finished speaking he turned his back to the creature, those his ears were on high alert for the slightest sound of movement. As an old friend once told him, the best way to know if you can trust someone is to give them an opening, if they take it, you can't trust em.
To himself he thought Just hope I am fast enough to escape if I have to, Lornen
The feathered Deinonychus descendant just clucked at him, ♫*Pok* Easier to hunt in here anyway. Sun drowns heat from mice. Hard to see them. Thane must eat fresh things when looking. I have rations.♫
She popped her jaw at him gesturing upward,♫Homes here, above, I not climbed up to see them yet. Constructed but not grown like ours. You know them? I see no heat there but is far away. Maybe empty.♫
N'dal went over to one of the trees and started climbing it, his claws finding easy purchase in the wood. It would be slow going, but easy for one of his kind. After he was a few feet up he looked down and asked "Would you like to join me? If your lost as I am, it would also be a good way for you to find your home."
Thane busily nipped at vines that gripped about her front clearing the way to the tree. She looked up at N'dal as her white third eyelid flicked across. Underneath the iris and the rear of her eyeball pulled away. The world switched from bright greens and blue sky to moving red and orange eyes and pads moving up the cool tree trunk.
Flynn started climbing her claws and tow talons digging into the trunk her breathing a soft pulsed continuous rush. Her climbing was a little ungainly but smooth and She looked to make sure Thane was coming. Once the worm floated beside her talked as she went, ♫If your houses are like these I think they need stairs. I could probably fly from up there though! Ours are large fungus. We do not have trees because there is no dirt or sun. Our world is black and has a ceiling. Or at least maybe you do not have a ceiling I have not flown so high before.♫
