The Other Side of the Coin

There are a lot of high school roleplays about students. What about a high school roleplay about the crazy things teachers get up to?

1,071 readers have visited The Other Side of the Coin since Milady created it.

Introduction

There's already a bunch of high school roleplays about students on Roleplay Gateway. Fantasy, horror, supernatural, romance...you name it - there's a high school roleplay with that genre out there. However, have you ever wondered what would happen if there was a high school roleplay about teachers? Yes, you read right, teachers. What crazy, strange and absolutely hilarious or melodramatic things would they get up to if someone only gave them a chance?

This is what this roleplay will be about - the life of teachers at Withernsea High School, in England. There are a variety of teachers to chose from - from the cool ones that all the students love to those old, cranky maths teachers that would hit you with a ruler for getting a question wrong. The question is, which one would you be?

About Withernsea High School

Headteacher: Mrs Alana Fickles

(Most of this information is important for roleplayers who are not familiar with the British Education System. It is important that they get a gist of this as we will be playing teachers - and it would be stupid for a teacher not to know this. If you already are familiar with British Education System, you can skip this however, it would be good to skim through this just to refresh your mind. And everyone should read the bullet points, as it has the list of subjects available to teach there. And anything past the bullet points is important to everyone.)

Withernsea High School is in North Humberside, Great Britain. It is an English School, therefore it will follow the British Education system. The students are aged 11-16 years old. The youngest year - aged 11 is called Year 7 and the next year is Year 8 and so on, until you reach Year 11 which is the last year of High School and the students graduate at age of 16.

Students in Years 7-9 take majority of subjects that are later available for them in Year 10 and 11.

The students take formal exams at the end of Year 10 and Year 11 for their GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education). At the end of Year 9, students are to pick three subjects apart from English, Maths, Science, Physical Education, ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) and Religious Studies & Citizenship - as these are compulsory subjects. They then take the courses they have picked along with the compulsory subjects for the next two years. Most of the courses have exams at the end of Year 11, are based primarily on coursework or are a mix of both. However, subjects like Science have their exams spread out throughout the two years.

At the end of their High School Education, students have a choice of either getting a job or continuing their education in College or Sixth Form to gain A-Levels and other training. Some students later chose to go to University after completing college with their A-Levels.

Work is graded using the level system in years 7-9. The levels range from Level 2 to Level 8. However, Level 8 can only be achieved in few subjects, such as Maths and Art and only a very few students get past Level 6. Each level has three parts to it, for example Level 5 can be either 5a, 5b or 5c - with 5a being a strong Level 5 and 5c being a weak Level 5. When students start Year 10, the grading system changes to letter one. With grades A*, A, B and C being passing grades and D, E, F and G being failing grades. Student can get an U for not attempting work or not attending lessons/exams.

Also, each student belongs to a Form - or Homegroup consisting of roughly 20 Students in their year. Majority of teachers have their own Form and their job is to pass on any vital information, monitor attendance, punctuality, behaviour and grades. If some student in their form is not on track for any of these, the Form teacher is generally the one who has to deal with it, while working alongside with parents to do so. Parent-Teacher meetings are also done twice every academic year - once near October time and once somewhere around April.

Withernsea High School offers these subjects to students:

  • Mathematics (worth 1 GCSE) Exam based subject.
  • English - Students in Sets 1&2 take English Literature&Language (worth 2 GCSEs) combined while sets 3-5 take Language only (worth 1 GCSE). Students have to take multiple Controlled Assessments and two 1 Hour exams (Reading paper and Writing paper) to gain the qualifications. Students taking Language only take less Controlled Assessments.
  • Science - in Year 10&11 students have a choice of taking Core Science only (worth 1 GCSE), taking Additional Science along with it (worth 2 GCSEs) or taking the previous two along with Triple Science (worth 3 GCSEs - 1 for Physics, 1 for Chemistry and 1 for Biology). Exam based subject: Core Science has to take 3 Multiple Choice Exams. For Addictional Science they have to do Core Science exams + 3 Multiple Choice and 3 Structured Exams. For Triple they have to take extra 3 Structured Exams.
  • Physical Education - compulsory PE is worth no GCSEs, however students can take BTEC Sports which takes up two out of the three subjects you can pick alongside the compulsory subjects (worth 4 GCSEs). Course is mainly coursework based, however they have one 1 1/2 hour exam.
  • ICT (worth 1 GCSE) Coursework based.
  • Religious Studies and Citizenship (worth 1 GCSE each). Students of sets 1&2 take both subjects while sets 3-5 take Citizenship only. Each subject has 1 exam that lasts 2 hours.
  • Design and Technology - Graphic Design, Textiles, Food Technology, Electronics and Resistant Materials (Each worth 1 GCSE). Students have a choice of picking one of them. 60% of the course is coursework while 40% is a 2 hour exam at the end of the two years.
  • History (worth 1 GCSE) Course has Controlled Assessments and Exams.
  • Art (worth 1 GCSE) Course is coursework based with a 10 hour practical exam at the end.
  • Modern Foreign Lanugages - French or Spanish. (worth 1 GCSE) Course has controlled assesments - written pieces, speaking pieces and then two exams - a Listening and Reading paper.
  • Geography (worth 1 GCSE) Exam based course.
  • BTEC Music (worth 4 GCSEs) This is a 100% portfolio (coursework) course. Students have to perform and evaluate their performance also.
  • BTEC Drama (worth 4 GCSEs) This is a 100% portfolio (coursework) course. Students have to perform and evaluate their performance also.

The School building is three floors high. On the ground floor there is the cafeteria, reception, Design&Technology Department, Physical Education (With a large gym and sports hall) and Humanities (RE, Citizenship, Geography and History). On the first floor there is the Staff Room, Headteacher's and Deputy Headteacher's Offices, Science Department, Mathematics Department and Modern Foreign Languages. On the second floor there is English Department, Performing Arts Department (Music, Drama and Art), ICT and a school library. Toilets are situated on every floor and food is only allowed in the Cafeteria. Drinks (apart from water) are not allowed at all in Science Department for Health and Safety reasons. All outdoor clothing is to be left in lockers upon entering the building (teachers have lockers just like students, however the teacher ones are within the small offices they have in each of their departments).

The dress code for teachers is pretty loose - you can look like you want as long as its not too revealing or inappropriate. Like, belt-like skirts are not exactly the best thing and neither are latex dresses. I think we are all mature enough to know what is fine for a teacher to wear to work and what is not.

The school day start at 9:45am for students with form time and lessons start at 10am and finishes at 4pm. Lunch is at 1pm for students. Lessons are 1 hour 30 minutes long and there is four of them in a day. Any clubs or revision sessions are held in the morning from 8:15am. Teachers have to be in at school from 9am at least and can finish at same time as students, unless they have a meeting after or they wish to stay. The school building is open from 7am for cleaners and closes at 10pm.

There can be more than one teacher from each department, but I don't want more than two - unless its the Design and Technology department because they have more subjects. That is because I want a variety of teachers here - not all of them being History teachers or something.

If you have any questions, ask in the OOC or PM the GM (Milady). I don't mind which.

Toggle Rules

  1. Only dedicated players please. I don't want people disappearing in the middle of this and ruining it for everyone else.
  2. Post regularly. That does not mean everyday, even if that would be fantastic. It means every other day - as long as we know that you will post. It would be great if everyone posted at least once every three days. If you cannot post for longer amounts of time, please mention it in the OOC or send me a PM.
  3. Proper spelling and grammar, please. I expect literate people in this roleplay - I don't mind the odd mistake but if you consistently do so, you will get kicked out. Use spell check at the least.
  4. No Mary-Sues, Gary-Stus, God Modding, etc. Its boring and stupid. Don't do it.
  5. Use the OOC thread to discuss any ideas, etc.
  6. Romance is allowed, but follow the RPG rules - i.e. take certain things to PMs.
  7. No one liners. I expect paragraphs here. At least try to write a bit, I know that you can pull of a couple of sentences even when doing dialogue. Short and sweet is nice, but so are long paragraphs and if the shortness is taking it too far, it will get you kicked out eventually.
  8. Put 'Carpe Diem' at the end of your application to show that you read the rules. If its not there, your character will not be accepted.
  9. I reserve the right to kick you out of the roleplay if you do not follow the rules, are being mean to other roleplayers or if you're gone for more than a week without notifying me.
  10. If you want to reserve a certain subject for your teacher, put it in the OOC or PM me. I will make sure that you'll have a spot in case of large amounts of roleplayers trying to teach the same thing.

Farrin felt like banging her head on a hard, concrete surface. She also wanted a Caramel Frappuccino but that was a completely different story.
The reason why she felt like banging her head on a hard, concrete surface was sat right before her. Thirty eleven year olds, her Year 7 art class. Most, if not all, of them didn't even know how to hold a pencil properly, much less create art. It irritated her so much to have students who cannot create art, and have no interest in it what-so-ever.
Farrin sometimes wondered just why did she become a teacher. She hated teaching children who had no sort of interest in the best subject on Earth (as she called Art). She sighed and let her face hit against her desk. "Oww." She groaned. This definitely was not a good idea. Starting a lesson, on the other hand, was.
'But I don't wanna~' She whined in her head. Year 7 were troublesome and wild. They reminded her of a less-cool version of the First Years from St Trinian's. Farrin liked St Trinian's movie, and she liked the First Years in it. She didn't like the Year 7 she has to teach.
Groaning, she stood up. "Right, brats." A few 'hey's came from the crowd of eleven year olds. "Oh shut up, you. Welcome to Art, I am your teacher. My name is Miss Farrin Frost. You can call me Miss Frost. I guess you can also call me Farrin if you want a detention." She continued.
She moved to stand in front of the interactive whiteboard, her heels clicking as she walked. "Majority of you will absolutely despise this lesson by the end of this week. Why? Because you have no talent or interest in art at all. How do I know that? Easy," Farrin paused for effect. "You're a group of kids who don't really care about school. A group of brats who will more likely get a job straight after you leave school rather than go to college and actually achieve something in life."
She stopped as a cry of disagreement was let out by the class. She waited patiently, knowing that they would shut up soon. "However, I have an obligation to teach you none-the-less. You don't have to like it. I don't have to like it. We just have to do it.
"You are here to learn about the subtle magic behind art and the age-old secrets of artists. There will be little mathematics or other more academic subjects here, many of you with the more logical minds will hardly find this fascinating. I don't expect that you will really understand the beauty of Michelangelo's Statue of David, the delicate smell of new canvas or the pages of an artist's sketchbook, each filled to the brim with the artist's ideas, their personality, soul...I can teach you how to access your inner creativity, how to pour your ideas into a painting or a sculpture. I can guide you to become the artist that you could be - That is if you're not like the bunch of uncreative fools that I usually have to teach."
Farrin let her speech sink in with the class, wondering if any of them got the subtle reference. The children mostly sat quietly, a few saying something to their friend in a hushed voice. "Now, we shall start the disaster that will be this lesson. And since I have no idea at what levels you guys are at art, I'm going to throw something super hard at you and see how you do with it. The best one is going to get a chocolate bar from me next lesson, so do your best."
The kids cheered up at the idea of a prize. Farrin took the remote and turned the interactive whiteboard on. Narcissus by Leonardo Da Vinci went up on the screen.
"How are we supposed to copy that?!" Exclaimed one of the children.
"I never told you to copy it, brat. All I'm telling you to do is to do your best at creating your own interpretation of this." Farrin replied. "This picture is called Narcissus and it was created by Leonardo Da Vinci in 1495. It is one of my favourite pieces of art, so don't fail too badly on it. Anything you might want or need to create it with is on the desk beside that kid with the afro - Marcus, is it? Never mind, you have paints, crayons, pencils, charcoal - use whatever you want as long as I get your work back at the end of the lesson. If you need any help, ask me, but I won't draw anything for you. All I'm going to do is help you with the techniques, etc. Good luck, and I'll be back in ten minutes, just gonna grab a coffee from the staff room. Don't kill anyone - Mrs Winstead is next door and will be keeping an eye on you."

"Welcome all strange wonders of the world!" Bryon said to an unfortunate class of Year 9 students. They stared at her in disbelief, her toothy smile seemed to scare them, "I'm the new ICT Teacher after the last had to be admitted to a hospital for severe trauma," she chuckled a bit. They were thirty-two students in her class, at least one of her Year 9 classes. She sat on her table, next to her interactive whiteboard. The students were sitting with a Macbook on their tables.

"I am remember the times when I was a high-schooler," she gazed somewhere at the ceiling with a wry smile, "Jessica Jones threw me in my own locker on the very first day. Good times, very good times," a few girls pulled back from their seats, was this chick serious? Bryon snapped back to reality after mere moment, realizing she was suppose to be a figure to them.

"I'm Ms. Danville and teaching all about Technology on a Year Nine basist," The class was filled with with fourteen year-olds who were still in puberty stages. Bryon wondered if she shouldn't have worn her skirt, even though it was knee-length, "Technology is around us all and it's changing. What I'm going to be teaching you today are the main components of a computer. A computer can be anything from a PC to a calculator but we're focusing mainly on the every day computer," Bryon felt that it was a good introductory, they weren't any sleepers yet and she had picked a student to tell her what they had learned the year before.

"Misha Ali," She called out from her clipboard, "Stand up please and tell me what you learned last year," a light brown-skinned girl stood up with a scarf covering her hair, Misha smiled politely and was about to speak when another girl snorted.

"'Cher, the Paki's new so how would she know?" the chubby but vivacious girl said before going to a girl next to her, "As if her fucking pea brain would let her," The two snickered as Misha slowly sank into her seat, mumbling that she wasn't even Pakistan. Bryon furrowed her eyebrows, "What's your name?" she asked nicely, pointing at the girl with her finger.

"Kelly, 'Cher,"

Bryon smacked her lips, glancing at the floor before looking back at Kelly, "Firstly, It's TEAcher, not 'cher and stop being such a chav or Saturday morning detention is in your way," She gave a triumph smile, she refused bullies. She stood up, walking around to her own computer and typed in some words. A RAM and ROM appeared.

"Can someone tell me the diffrence between these two?"

The piano played the first three notes.

It took Jas most of his morning to transport the piano to school. First he had to push it out his front door, an easy enough event, but it was sullied by the sharp cries of a cat he ran over. The cat still had three good legs, so Jas didn't trouble himself too much about it. Next was connecting it onto his bike. He refused to let Lalita, his wife, drive him to school. Jas didn't exactly say no, because he never could say no to her. Jas just took her hand; he squeezed it gently but firmly and opened the front door for her to leave. They communicated best this way and Lala didn't mind. She left without a fuss. The car furthered the destruction of nature as she drove away.

Jas wrapped chains around the piano and hooked those chains to the back of his bike. The next issue came when Jas discovered the effects of a hill on a heavy object. The piano decided it was ready to go and, before Jas could get on his bicycle, it left. It soared down the hill, narrowly avoiding cats (its natural enemy), cars and morning joggers as it dragged his bike along. Jas rushed after the piano while he apologized to the crowd of people cursing his name. It was very difficult not to roll down the hill like a tumbleweed after it, but he managed to stay on his feet. The piano sat comfortably atop a park bench at the bottom, resting its 88 keys in preparation for the day's activities. Jas left an apology note to the hobos who traditionally slept on the bench and continued on his way, pushing the piano down the street with his bike atop it.

Three hours later, Jas made it onto school grounds. First, he tried carrying it up the stairs. That ended immediately when he saw the elevator sitting nearby. He moved the piano into it. They rode up and although Jas feared the elevator would commit suicide, they made it to the appropriate floor. Now in front of his classroom - he couldn't see the door past the piano, but he believed he had a pretty good feel for where the classroom was - Jas played the three notes described above and then launched the piano inside. He jumped atop it and accidentally kicked his bike to the floor. From there, the bike hopped onto his desk.
~"A piano with chains rules more than a piano without, a piano with chains connected to a bicycle plays - beautiful melon melodies without a doubt!"~ Jas sang at a ridiculous decibel, then landed on a stool and pushed it in front of the piano.
~"I'm your teacher! Doctor - Professor - Mister, Call me Jas or call me sister,"~
Jas played a piece reminiscent of a Dracula movie,
~"and I am going to teach you music today! YEAH, YEAH, YEAH!"~

Breathing heavily, he turned to his class. He was the man!

But this wasn't his class. He looked around.
Oh no!This is the frozen abode of Dark Snow, the evil version of Snow White!

"Sorry kids!" He called. He picked up his bicycle, dropped it, and then picked it up again. He tossed it on his piano and pushed it out as quickly as possible.
Oh my shiva, oh my shiva, she's going to catch me and kill me and - oh no!
He found his classroom and pushed his piano inside. He saw his kids and absentmindedly waved hello. He really did not want to get into trouble - again. Especially not from that abhorred Dark Snow. Then something donned on him.
He stared at it closely.
"Oh." He said. There was a piano sitting in his classroom already, courtesy of the school.
It had always been there. Jaswinder had no need to bring his own. He was swiftly proving himself to be a disorganized mess. He sighed, his darker feelings circling up his throat. Casting them away from him, he faced his students,
"Hey. . .guys," He said. "Like my chained piano?"

Some kids consented and some did not. He was most anxious about the ones who said nothing. The ones who gave him that hard, complicated look. That look he knew all too well. It said: Should you even be teaching?
He gulped. Jas didn't need to see that look today. He quickly turned to the board, streaking a line across it with his chalk.
"What is this, my heroic students?"
"A rainbow?" A girl said. Her hair was the colour of a rainbow, incidentally.
"Please raise your hand." He said, although he knew he had given the impression that they were to speak openly.
Another mistake.
"A line drawn by a really lame teacher?" Another female opined. Everyone laughed. Jas did, too.
He tried not to take it too seriously, although he wanted to.
"Any other guesses? Yes - you." He couldn't remember the boy's name.
"It's a string of an instrument."
"Hmm, interesting." Jas said.
"Maybe a line where a note is placed on the grand staff?" Another female guessed.

In fact, Jas just wanted them to think. He wanted them to see more than just a streak on a chalkboard. That was the whole point. He didn't tell them that, however. Instead he said,
"Cool!"
and pushed his chained piano aside. While students whispered in confusion, he prepared himself in front of the piano the school provided.
"Today I want us to learn some basic finger positions. We'll start with the C five finger position. Can anyone tell me where that begins?"
"Middle C, mister. . . sir. . ." The rainbow girl said. Then it occurred to her, "You never told us your name?"
"Yes, I did. I did a song and. . ." Oh right. That was the other class.
He was messing up again! He laughed it off,
"Um, my name is Jaswinder Jakkamsetti. Call me Jas or call me si - well, just call me Jas."
"Jazz?" The evil female said, "Like the type of music? Do you wake up in the morning with the intent to be so cliche? Oh, I'm a musician, and my name happens to be something related to music. I might as well call you Cadence Melody Andante!"
"Well, that's not my name. . .It's Jas," He tried, not successively, to defend himself. "But yeah um. . .well, you know. If you don't want to be here. . ."

Jas was really bad at this next part, so he just let it all out in a rush - in the form of a song. It was accompanied by him playing the piano. Yeah.
~"If you don't want to be here, then please take your ugly backpack and leave, because your mother smells like cheese, and your attitude is a venereal disease!"~
"What did you say 'bout me motha?" Evil female said, rising. Jas had made yet another misstep.
"Um, nothing, I am sure she is lovely. . .If a little hard and moldy." He laughed a bit.

No one else did. Damn it.

When Farrin came back to her classroom with a nice, hot cup of coffee she felt a disturbance in the force. Her left eye twitched slightly as she noticed bike tyre marks on her desk. And on the floor - like something was being dragged.
"Brats, I told you not to kill anyone." She said. "Where did you hide the body?"
"But, Miss Frost-"
Ten minutes later, she found out exactly what happened. A strange teacher hauled a piano and a bike into the class, introduced himself as 'Jazz', told them that he's going to teach them music, started playing the piano and then left. Farrin was not amused. Although she was amused by the fact that Jas, one of her colleagues, has been embarrassed by going into the wrong classroom, she was not amused by the mess he left.
Taking a slip of her coffee, she sat down behind her desk and opened up the school website. She clicked on the school email and opened up a new message. Humming for a second, she waved off one of the kids asking for help and started to type.

Subject: Bike Tyre Marks

Jas,

Thank you for scaring my Year 7 class with your strange antics. The piano was a really nice touch, apparently. They're scared of going into the Music part of the Performing Arts Department now, in fear of you being there. However, do you mind telling me why did you feel like leaving bike tyre marks on my desk? And those marks on the floor that look like you dragged something along it?
I know that my class is not exactly the most clean, as it is an art class, but I do not appreciate having black marks on my pretty grey floor.
So I would appreciate an explanation. And for you to clean the mess up, for I sure ain't doing it for you.

Far x

Farrin was pleased with the message. It got her point across. Plus, she's sending a copy to the other teachers, as she knew that they found Jas' fear of her rather amusing. She did too, which is why she didn't do anything to stop it.

Jaswinder's faux pas was interrupted by the ding-ding-ding of his cell phone. He had forgot to turn it off before coming to school. As he pulled it out and looked at it, the evil female left. She mumbled something about complaining to his boss, but he didn't dare listen too closely. The phone was the last straw for her, but at least now he didn't have to apologize to her mother.

On the phone was an e-mail update. The email was from Dark Snow. It was titled Bike Tyre Marks. His hands began to shake and he reached for his anxiety pills, before remembering that he already took them an hour earlier. He wasn't aware of his students now. He just read the e-mail. Every word was a pin in his composure.

Strange.

Antics.

In fear of you.

Telling me.

Why you.

Marks on my desk?

Do not appreciate.

Clean the mess.

Far x

He stuffed his phone away. If he got up now to leave, his students would surely complain to his supervisors. He had to focus on the lesson and go to her later. When their classes were over. Her and him. Alone. The thought made him shudder.

"Um, teacher?" Rainbow girl said. Jas glanced over. "Can we learn something today?"
"Yeah, sure!" He donned his best smile, "LET'S DO THIS!"
He jumped up, grabbed a tuba, and played a hard, victorious note. The sound reverberated down the hall.
"Um do what?" Some students said. Oh, right - the students couldn't read his mind.
"Today we are learning about chaos!"
"But what about the five -"
" - Chaos!" Jas repeated. He forgot that he had already decided to teach them something else today. He didn't want Rainbow Girl reminding everyone else.
"In order to learn anything, one must first be willing to accept mistakes. Music is all about feeling. Feel it, and it will feel you."

He didn't realize how creepy that sounded. Jaswinder circled the students' desk, handing each one a random instrument from the school's collection as he passed. When he was done, and everyone was satisfactorily lost, he sat back down at the piano.
"What I want everyone to do is play," He said. "Yes, rainbow girl?"
"My name isn't rainbow girl," Rainbow girl said, "But um. . .play what?"
"Something! Anything! I want everyone to jump into it!"
"But this isn't my instrument specialty!" One guy said, and the complaints continued as follows:
" - but I'm a cheerleader -"
" - I think that is my violin -"
" - Why is there a creepy skull glued to this thing -"
" - What if the last person who blew into this had syphilis?"
Jas stared blankly at the last boy. He waved his hand delicately and eventually, everyone began to play. They played high notes. They played low notes. They played loud. They played soft. They played quick. They played slow. But everyone was playing some instrument. Jaswinder turned to the keys and played a cheery melody. Then a beautiful sound rung out at the center of the students. Rainbow girl played the saxophone like a god creating earth. She swayed with each note, the notes rising to the ceiling (One could almost see them there!). Then, Jas urged everyone else to rejoin her. Suddenly they were not a cacophony of sound, but a harmonious band of awesomeness!

Jaswinder was really surprised, considering he had no clue what he was doing when he assigned this task. But then he joined in and their masterpiece took over the halls; it took over the floor. The chains of the piano shook and the bicycle danced a little. Jas totally forgot about his previous mistakes. All he knew was the music. All the music knew was him. Maybe he wasn't a failure after all.

Kelly was glad she started the day with a nice cup of coffee. Before she entered the classroom, she could already hear the chattering of the Year 8 students. When she went in, most of the students were chatting with their friends and some were even out of their seats. She placed her things on her desk and stood there watching her students and looking at her watch occasionally. Soon, the noise grew slightly louder as students scrambled to their seats after they noticed her presence. Once everyone was seated, there was only whispering left.

"Good morning. Since this is the first day of school and I'm pretty sure you have a lot to say to your friends, I shall let what just happened pass." She said to her class as she moved in front of her desk and leaned against it.

"I'm Ms. Stevens, your mathematics teacher for the year. Before we begin, I'd like to lay down some ground rules. I do not appreciate any tardiness so please be punctual for my lessons. Of course, I'll give you all a leeway of five minutes because I know that some of you do like your toilet parties in between classes. So, I expect everyone to be in their seats five minutes after class is supposed to start and homework to be handed in punctually. Anyone disagrees?" She said as her students began to whisper to each other.

When nobody raised their hands or said anything to her, she decided to continue.
"So, how many of you dislike maths?" As soon as she said that, about half of the class raised their hands.

"And who finds maths difficult?" She smiled as more people raised their hands.

"Alright then, why don't we start with a little game?" With that, she turned around and wrote "7-up" on the whiteboard. After she wrote that, she heard students murmuring in the background.

"I'm sure some of you are familiar with this game. We will take turns counting the numbers from 1 onwards. Every time there is a number with a seven or is divisible by seven, the person whose turn to say that number out loud has to clap once." The class grew excited and they began talking excitedly to each other.

"Of course, the game is not going to be this easy. I may change the seven to a different number like eight or nine. Let's begin with this row here! Abigail right? Could you start first?"Kelly smiled to the girl sitting in front of her. With that, the game began.

Halfway through the game, when they were reaching the 100 mark, she said, "Oh yes, anyone who does not clap at the right number or in any case, get your number wrong will be getting extra homework in the coming week. One question per mistake."

Kelly watched as her students' anxiety grew. A lot of them were determined not to screw up. After all, who would like to do extra homework in the first week of school? This was going to be fun. Also, it was a good way of testing the mental calculations of the students and giving them more practices.

A short beep distracted her from her class. She had just received a new e-mail. She placed her laptop on her lap and began reading the e-mail. Now, this is amusing. It's only the first day and Jas had already created such a mess, causing Far to send this e-mail. She grinned and shook her head. There was sure to be some very interesting action in the staffroom later. What she did not realise, though, was that whilst she was reading this e-mail, her students had skipped quite a few numbers.

"I like to believe that computers have their own souls," Bryon explained as she pressed a button on her computer, revealing a robot with a heart, "They can grow sick with viruses you don't take care of them properly, they can break down if they're too dirty and can even take your little secrets away if you just turned around," She turned to look at some boys at the back.

"The Motherboard is like it's brain and when not properly taken care of, it goes nuts like Aunt Millie," she mentioned as if it was usual, "Peripherals are just added to make it easier to function like bikes or clothes,"

She pressed another button, with a URL.

"This website is your first assignment of the day," she said, "It's a crossword puzzle I found online. It's all about the components and peripherals of a computer. They'll give you a clue and you just have to type in the answers. First one to get all right will win a piece of chocolate," She showed them her chocolate bar, large and almost shining. She looked at it longingly and shook her head. It would be such a waste to give it to one person. It was her favourite, dairy milk with chewy strawberries.

"Maybe just about half or a quarter," she admitted before clapping her hands, "Start now, the website is already bookmarked on your computer," and with that, most of her students started typing on their computer. and the others just didn't care. She'd deal with them later, turning off the interactive whiteboard. She would do something if she knew what to do. She fiddled with her necklace, toying it aound her fingers and she searched for something to do online. Maybe a crossword puzzle would do the trick. She went to goodle and typed in crossword puzzles and eventually found one about Greek Mythology. It took her mere minutes before a beep and a pop-up was seen, "You Have One Unread E-Mail," she secretly hoped it was from Trevor so she clicked it.

To her dismay, it was just an e-mail from one of the teachers...about bike tyres in the classroom. She snickered, amusing and hauling a piano in. Could the piano even fit through the door? Maybe she should try it sometime, "Miss Danville," a boy raised his hand, "I'm done," She glady walked up to him, holding her chocolate bar.

As soon as the lesson with the Year 7 finished, Farrin found herself in her empty classroom. It was a large room, cluttered with strange masks, fabric, paints and other items among the desks and stools. It was a very colourful place, with the previous years' works on the walls and hanging from the ceiling. It truly felt like an art classroom - an organised mess, as Farrin liked to call it.
She was sat behind her desk, the work done by the Year 7 students stacked up in front of her. She was contemplating whether to go to the staff room for a break immediately, or to look through the work first. A good teacher would do the latter, but a tired teacher would do the first. As she considered herself both, she did not know what to do.
After much thought, she has decided to look through the work quickly before running to the staff room - as she ran out of coffee, again. Plus, the internet on her school laptop worked there better and she needed her daily dose of Tetris.
The first few works did not leave an impression on Farrin. They were either absolute disasters; less than half-finished works or simply very unimaginative works. So far, she wasn't impressed by the people in that class.
Then she saw it.
It was a piece of A3 paper, gridded out into tiny squares. A quick sketch of Narcissus was under the grid. The boxes created by the grid were outlined in seven different colours - each shape created was four boxed big. Farrin immediately recognised the boxes to be Tetriminos. 'No way...' She thought. The kid was creating a Tetris version of the paining? She looked at the way the Tetriminos were placed. He was. Quickly, she checked the name on the other side of the paper - Marcus. The kid with the afro.
"If he doesn't pick art for Year 10 and 11, I will kick his ass into next century." She promised to herself as she walked towards the staff room.

The class had ended. Rather, after a time of waiting for the teacher to speak, the students left. Jas was too preoccupied playing the tuba to remember he was supposed to be teaching. After a few minutes passed, he paused for a breath. That was when his eyes saw a rainbow standing before him. No, it wasn't a rainbow - just rainbow girl.
"Hey. . ." She said.
"Hey. . ." He said.
Then there was silence. Jas lustfully eyed his tuba. Rainbow girl eyed the saxophone in her hand. For gods of sound, the two of them were very quiet.
"Yeah, so what's the curriculum for this year?" Rainbow girl said, "Even more so, what's the agenda for tomorrow?"
"Um, well. . ." He fiddled with something on his desk. He shuffled some papers around.
"Hmm. . .We'll. . .see?"
"O.K. . . ." She said, dejected. She turned to leave, but then Jas recalled that he wanted to say something to her.
"Good job, today. You lead us all into harmony -- that takes some serious dedication. I gather that the saxophone is your specialty?"

"Yeah, it is," She said, then leaned it closely as if to scheme with him,
"I used to be in Juilliard, but they kicked me out because of my hair."
"Oh really. . .?" He said. He made shifty eyes in all directions, pretending to be secretive as well,
"Yeah, you look like you belong behind a rain cloud."
"Are you saying. . .that my hair is ugly. . .?" Rainbow girl said, slow and offended. He was just trying to joke with her. He thought she saw him as a cool teacher with whom one could plot evil. He was wrong. He sighed.
"No, your hair is fine. . .now if you'll excuse me, I have a suicide to attend to. . ." He rose.
She departed, a little perplexed. As he closed the door on his classroom, he wondered if he was really joking about committing suicide.
Don't think like that, everything is fine. He told himself.
Jas only meant that it was suicide to face the fright of Farrin. He walked down the hall, hoping she wouldn't be in her classroom. He could sneak in and . . .
Clomp.
Clomp.
Clomp.
He looked up. He stopped walking, frozen in an odd stature; it looked like he was imitating a scarecrow. There she was - Dark Snow herself, advancing right toward him! He looked furtively about for an escape route. He didn't see one. He gulped. He winced. He prepared himself for his doom. . .

Originally, Farrin wanted to go to the staff room, however when she saw Jas walking towards her classroom, her plans changed. Farrin grinned and skipped towards the man, who looked positively terrified of her.
She knew that he expected her to be this cruel, evil witch. What did he call her again? Ah - Dark Snow. She never understood why. Her hair was green and she was quite a happy person.
Anyway, Farrin discovered that when she is being cheerful to him, he is even more scared of her. She didn't understand why, but she didn't really care. Farrin knew that she really shouldn't make the man like that, but it was so much fun!
"Hello Jas" She said cheerfully. "Ready to clean those tyre marks? They look absolutely horrid on my classroom's floor and desk."

Once they had finished the game with the eight and nine times table and reaching several hundred, Kelly decided that it was enough for the warm up. "Alright then, since it's the first day, I don't think you'll actually want me to go through a lesson. Furthermore, we only have about half an hour left and I don't think it is enough."Kelly said.

"However, don't get too happy so soon. That doesn't mean I won't be doing anything in the next half an hour or so. I'll be going through what you all will be learning this year. It's going to be pretty dry so bear with me for awhile."She continued before going on to talk about their curriculum.

After Kelly had dismissed her class, she sat down behind her desk and closed her eyes for awhile. She had a late night and had only gotten four hours of sleep. She figured that if she wanted to survive the day, she was going to need more coffee. She gathered her things and headed towards the staffroom.

As she was heading to the staffroom, she passed by Jas and Farrin. Kelly heard Farrin asking Jas if he was ready to clean up the tyre marks and she grinned. This was going to get more and more interesting and Kelly wanted the details of it.
"Check your texts." Kelly smiled at Farrin as she walked past them.
She then quickly sent out a text message to Farrin.
"Giv me all the details l8er."
Kelly then went to the staffroom and made herself a nice cup of coffee before doing a sudoku puzzle.

The class ended soon enough after a bit of questioning about the peripherals. She gave the chocolate bar to Manuel in the end. He shared it with his friends as Bryon watched. She was free for some time since her next class would be after lunch. Once every student left, she shut off her laptop and everything inside as she bit into her bar of chocolate. Then her phone rang from her bag, hidden beneath two thick book, useless papers and her knitting kit. Bryon shuffled around before reaching. She beamed when she saw the contact.

"Trevor? Hey" she answered, holding the phone up to her ear.

"Hey Bryon" A thick Irish accent was heard, "I missed you." She could hear shuffles and Quinton's voice screaming, "He really does!" in the distant background. She chuckled.
"We spoke last night," she said as she sat on her desk, taking out a pen and paper, "You guys filming?"
"About to, Quinton and Amy says hi," She heard Amy and Quinton's voice. She smiled happily. Quinton was Trevor's best friend and Amy was someone she respected. Even though she knew he wouldn't hurt her in any way, they were still there to check up on them, "We're going to film soon enough. I promise you, the next holiday you get, I'm getting you on a plane to Cardiff,"

"Lovely but it's the start of school. I doubt we're gonna have more than an early Friday leave," Bryon mentioned.
"That's good enough for me,"

For a while, they just spoke on the phone, talking about their future wedding, how he got a bruise while filming last night, how he would visit by the end of the week for the weekend. Bryon wished it wouldn't end but soon enough, they both hung up. He had to film and she had to get some cocoa.

Oh god, the evil frost creature is skipping!
She plopped herself in front of him, a cheery sunbeam of wretchedness. He had never meant to address her as Dark Snow in person -- such a title was reserved for the shadows behind her back. But he had called her by the name Dark Snow several times since its conception and as such she was quite aware of the less than benign moniker she had been given. Jas was also confident that Farrin didn't understand why it was that he called her by that name; her hair was as green as seaweed, after all, not as black as night. The truth of its origin happened this one time at band camp. . .

Some summers ago, Jas and others were sitting around a bonfire sharing stories about their respective instruments. Jas was a group supervisor at the camp, a title he was proud to hold. He had volunteered last minute for this gig, so he wasn't exactly sure what to do besides sit around and exchange stories. Most of the students in his group were also students in his classroom at school. He asked a student to speak, a student whose name and face he forgot afterward, but he referred to him as 'Bob' in every retelling of the event hence. Thus, 'Bob' said,
"I have a scary story to share."
The students had turned to listen. They played their instruments in a suspenseful melody.
"Oh? what is it Bob?" Jas said.
"My name isn't B - "
"- Oh, do get on with it." Another, grumpier, student had said.
"Right, well I've heard talk of this woman who stalks the halls of Withernsea. . ." He had begun.
"Like a ghost?" One had said.
"Like a hobo?" Another had cried.
"Like a nomad of a soon-to-be extinct ancient civilization?" A smart person had guessed. Everyone blinked at him.
"No," Bob had corrected, "Like a 'woman'."
"Whoa. . ." Everyone had said.
"What did this. . .'woman'. . .do?" Jas had said, his voice cracking with fright.
"Well, you see. . .first she yelled at a septet of midgets for singing carols in her class room," Bob said,
"Then she threw apples at students as she careened out of the parking lot."
"Is there more?" Someone said excitedly.
"Yes, there is. . .She had a rival," He said. "This rival was jealous of the woman's beauty. The rival tried to get her fired. . .but do you want to know what the woman did?"
"What?" Jas said. He could feel his throat tighten as he gulped.
"The woman turned her rival's lover against her. He was a man by the name of Hunter. . .the woman gave him some sob story and he ate it up. Then the woman watched as her rival was murdered by her lover."
"How devious!"
"How brilliant!"
"How unrealistic and mundane. . ." The smart person had decided. Everyone glared at him this time.
"That's not all," Bob had said, eyeing everyone expectantly.
"Lastly, this woman burnt down the whole forest. . .the same forest we're in right now!"
"But these arbors are clearly more than a century old. That means they've been around longer than you've been alive. . . also, I highly doubt that you can provide adequate reasons for why this woman would demolish a densely wooded area!"
The smart person had exclaimed. He left in a flurry of elitist frustration.
"It's completely true!" Jas had said. He had risen to his feet then, "But what is the name of this. . .this dark entity?"
"Farrin. . .Frost." Bob had said. Jaswinder shuddered. Her name exemplified her character -- Frost. She was like the falling snow, bitter and unyielding. But then her story reminded Jas very much of Snow White. The major difference was that Snow White hadn't been evil. It occurred to him then that Frost was the evil version of Snow White! Some sort of. . .some sort of. . .yes, some sort of Dark Snow! He fled to his tent and avoided Bob for the rest of band camp.

And that is why she was called Dark Snow.
"Hello, Jas," Dark Snow said, her voice dripping with apple venom, "Ready to clean. . . those tyre marks?"
He would swear later that she had laughed maniacally here. Then she looked at him with eyes of maleficent,
"They look absolutely horrid on my classroom's floor and desk."
Jas grabbed onto the wall to keep himself from fainting. In the interim, a teacher - Kelly? - passed them by. She whispered something to Dark Snow and continued walking. Was she an accomplice of Frost's?
He laughed nervously. He was taking this to ridiculous extremes.
What would Lala say if she walked by and saw me this spooked? He wondered to himself.
He decided to make light of the situation. With a hopeful smile, he said,
"Pfft, tyre marks? Tyre marks are like the new Egyptian hieroglyphic. . .they are like Sodom and Gomorrah before the pillars of salt and the awkward genocide."

After a short whispered conversation with Kelly, Farrin turned back to Jas.
"Pfft, tyre marks? Tyre marks are like the new Egyptian hieroglyphic. . .they are like Sodom and Gomorrah before the pillars of salt and the awkward genocide."
"They may be, but I'm much more of a fan of Greek culture rather than Egyptian." Farrin replied cheerfuly. "So, how has your day been? Any unfortunate accidents in music?"
If one of her older students went past her right now, they would've ran as fast as they could away from her. They knew that she was a generally cheeful person, but this glee that radiated off her in waves was uncommon ever for her. The reason for it? The look of absolute horror that Jas seemed to be wearing when he entered the classroom and the small attempt at a smile when he spoke. It was simply splendid.

Kyle had first class as his planning class and so instead of actually planning he decided to watch a movie on his smart board. Something he managed to import from Canada and set up with no problem. The smart board played 'Dracula' quite well for Kyle's expectations towards it, aka he thought it was going to screw up and be fuzzy.

When Kyle had finished playing with his toy he went to his desk and started playing with his laptop. He looked to see who would be in his class by bringing up his class list on his computer, he had some Year Niners, he assumed that they would all think that they were the top students since they were taking his 'hard' english class... soon they would see just how hard he can be though.

He looked over at his work that he had ready for his class... An essay on dracula along with some movie questions so he knews they would actually watch the movie, then a quick right up that they would hand in for tomorrow telling him a little about themselves as well as what they expect to get in this class. He also had a right up for them telling them a little about himself, he thought it was cheeky and funny.

Dear students:

I am mister K. You may call me K. I love english and I love my electronics, you take those you will not do well in my class. If you do not follow the rules in my class, you will also not do well in my class. You decide to not do homework and I wish you luck in my class and with your exams. I hope you all enjoy my class and don't be afraid... you might do well.

Mr. K.

Kyle re-read his letter then laughed. All of his students would either laugh at the dumb letter or gasp in shock and be very gullible and afraid. Either way he ould enjoy the reaction. Kyle looked out his door, as he heard the sound of wheels on flooring, a piano was zooming by along with a teacher... ''I have no comment".

"G-Greek? Good ol' Pompeii. . ." Jas said, then in a mutter he added, "I could do with a nice volcano right about now."
But he left out why it was that he wanted to be burnt to ash: to free him from the torment of talking to her. With that said, he began inching away, his hand on the wall at all times.
"I've got to - to - yes! Do that thing, for that person, in that place - yes, right away! So sorry you can't come - not that I don't want you to. . .I just, um, oh look a petunia!"
He shifted into another hall and ran, his feet making loud clomping noises as he did so. After he had put considerable distance between him and his vicious (yet cheerful!) pursuer, Jas decided that he would head to the staff room to get some water and eat some gummy bear vitamins.

But then he remembered that he still needed to clean the tyre marks. His minor mental crisis had distracted him from his obligations. Walking in a round about way, he made it to her class room and shut the door behind him. He looked first at the tyre marks on the floor and second at the tyre marks on the desk. It looked like some documents on the desk had suffered some tyre marks as well. He gulped, fearing Dark Snow's thirst for blood and vengeance. Then he went to the back of the class where he figured some cleaning supplies would be in the cabinets. He found a bottle but the label was torn off. It smelt odd, but he figured that was normal.
One cleaning supply is the same as the next, right?

Jas brought the bottle with a cloth to the front of the room. He sprayed the floor and the desk with the stuff then set to work on rubbing the former area. Rub. Rub. Rub. He felt faint from the smell, but other than that he didn't see a difference in the tyre marks. He got on top of the desk and, on his hands and knees, started rubbing it hard. He was sure he looked funny. It occurred to him then that it wouldn't look funny if Lala was doing it. Then his mind slipped into the gutter and he imagined his wife as a sexy high school student cleaning up the mess on the desk like a very bad girl. He shook his head.
What is British society doing to me?
He wondered, his face red with embarrassment. He had fantasies of his wife before but it was usually a lot more relaxed - controlled. He tried to retain some semblance of discipline with that aspect of his mind, but he didn't always succeed. After a few minutes had passed, he stood up from the desk and faced the results of his work. Horror fell upon his face and stayed there a while.

The thing in the bottle had been bleach.

He fled from the scene of the crime and headed for the staff room to wash the bleach off his hands before the worst was realized. He presumed his hands would be bleached like the desk and floor had been bleached.
In my defense, I got the tyre marks out. . .
He told himself as he twisted through the halls. He entered the staff room in a daze, heading to the sink and washing his hands and face (then hair) obsessively with soap and water. When he looked down at his clothes, he froze. They had various spots of discoloration - he looked like a leopard at a polka dot parade. He was just about to undress when he became presently aware of the teachers in the staff room. He turned around and waved awkwardly.

He really was an idiot.

Bryon thought the day was going on happily, she walked to the staff room with heels clacking against the pavement. She was free for a while so she could spend her time at the staff room. Maybe she could find a way to show a teacher Wrock. Amazing music. She passed some students which she didn't know but they stared at her as if she was an alien. She furrowed her eyebrows, she wasn't alien..she guessed.

"Hello lovelies," she greeted them all once she went into the staff room. No one seemed to greet her back so she simple sat in her desk. Teachers around here were strange, their dress code was more or less the same. She took a scrunchie and tied her hair into a quick side ponytail before going to get herself some coffee. She walked, or skipped to the coffee maker and waitged in line. She concluded that teachers loved coffee.

She thought of finishing the scarf she was making. She could keep it in her collection or give it to her mother. Then she caught sight of Jas just like everyone else. She didn't even think of laughing at his polka-dot clothes. She smiled widely, "Where did you get that outfit? It's lovely," she said aloud.

Farrin could only stare in wonder when he escaped her classroom. She reasoned with herself that he'll be back later, so she didn't bother running after him. Besides, her running? Please, she didn't avoid PE lessons like plague during her high school years only to run through the school.
She has decided to go to the staff room, as that was her original plan. Farrin skipped through the classroom and the corridor only to see the Mother of All Evil making her way towards her. Mrs Alana Fickles, the headmistress of Withernsea High School. She was old, grumpy and Farrin once swore that she was into witchcraft - much like some students thought about Farrin herself. And worst of all, Mrs Fickles absolutely despised Farrin, for many reasons such as:
She has un-natural green hair.
She has unorthodox ways of teaching.
She once scared another teacher so much that the poor woman quit her job and had to be sent to a mental hospital.
All in all, Mrs Fickles hated Farrin, however for some strange reason she did not kick her out. She just seemed to whine and complain about every little think she did.
"Miss Frost" Mrs Fickles called after her. Farrin stopped dead in her tracks and swallowed the lump that seemed to have formed in her throat.
"Yes, headmistress?" She asked politely, attempting to smile. Her mind, she was screaming 'BURN THE WITCH', although that wouldn't be the best approach if she wanted to keep her job.
"I would like to inform you of the staff meeting that will happen exactly at 4 o'clock. All of the staff is going to be present and we'll be looking through the curriculum for the year. The rest of the staff has already been informed through email, however if you see them then you should remind them." Mrs Fickles said. "And for heaven's sake, dye your hair a normal colour, you're setting a bad example."
Farrin wanted to stab her. No one tells her to change her hair colour. She had first dyed it as a celebration after finishing university, and had it like that since.
"Yes headmistress, I shall inform them." Farrin said. "Have a good day."
Then, she escaped the headmistress' wrath.
Seconds later, she ran into the staff room, slightly out of breath. Only when escaping the witch, she is willing to run through the school - as its is the matter of survival.
She caught a sight of Jas with polka-dotted clothing which was not so a while ago. Immediately, she smiled. Then she started laughing and laughed for a while. Farrin laughed so hard that she got hiccups and had to lean against the wall for support.
Minutes later, she regained her composure, however the hiccups stayed. "I just ran into -" Hic. " - Mrs Fickles." Hic. "She said that- "Hic. "We're having a staff meeting at four o'clock." Hic.

Kelly tried to contain her laughter when Jas entered the staffroom wearing what appeared to be clothes with polka-dots. She bit her lips, which were trembling, due to her trying to contain her laughter. She did not want to be mean but it was a funny sight. Finally, she composed herself and smirked when Bryon complimented Jas on his choice of clothing.

"Not bad, Jas. Not bad." She grinned and nodded. She bit her lips and tried not to laugh again. However, it certainly did not help when Farrin burst into the staffroom and started laughing. Her laughter was pretty contagious and soon, Kelly began laughing too. She laughed even more when Farrin began to get hiccups. Then, she heard it.

"I just ran into -" Hic. " - Mrs Fickles." Hic. "She said that- "Hic. "We're having a staff meeting at four o'clock." Farrin told them, with her sentences being punctuated with her hiccups. Now this was no longer funny. A meeting at four?

"Are you serious?" Kelly exclaimed. Just when she finished saying that, she heard a beep. She scowled when she read the e-mail that confirmed what Farrin had told them.

"Oh, come on! It's the first day of school! And how am I going to get a babysitter at such short notice?" She groaned, before taking out her phone and begin making calls to find a babysitter.

K walked out of his classroom and was starring at the floor as he walked. *Why was it so clean in this building? Does the principal have some werid phobia of dirtiness?* He just kept walking and looking down. It was strange to him and he didn't really get why schools like this had usually the werid principals but that was something to bring up another time.

As he was walking he tried to remember where the staff room was and he was actually about to ask a student when he almost walked flat right into the door. "Aha! Here it is. The silly bugger!" He was about to walk in when he noticed that there were students around him staring at him as if he was an idiot. "Don't you have studying to do?" They gasped and walked off. K just smirked.

Heading into the room K looked around and saw different teachers. He waved and headed to go get hot chocolate. He didn't actually like coffee so this would be his caffine for the rest of the day.

"I just ran into -" Hic. " - Mrs Fickles." Hic. "She said that- "Hic. "We're having a staff meeting at four o'clock." Hic."

From what Bryon could pick up, they're having a meeting at four. Mrs. Fickles was the principal who, Bryon thought admittedly, was not very kind in a sense. She knew Mrs. Fickles was a strict woman since the day she entered the school. Something about her to cover up her legs and wonder if she dyed her hair.

To prove Farrin's statement, she just got a message in her e-mail. Yes,it was true. It wasn't as if she had anything to do but she did hope she could visit her mother.

Jas stood there amid the ridicule and sighed. He knew that everyone made fun of him behind his back. They spoke of his poor lesson plans, his eccentricities, and even his ethnic nose. He was a pariah in the academics. He felt himself sinking inside; he almost sank on the outside, too, but he fell into a slouch instead. Then Dark Snow ran into the staff room - she meant to murder him for the crimes he had committed against her desk! But no, all she did was smile at him, then laugh, and laugh, and laugh. He was lost in that laughter, circling around her sinister aura, knowing that soon he would be swallowed whole.

Suddenly, she spoke. Her words were punctuated with a strange growl. It went like this: Hic! Hiiiiiiiiic! Hic! She was unhinged! He didn't register her words at all, well not at first. Then they came to him, slow and unyielding. There was one member of staff that Jas adored and that was the headmistress. While she was stern, strange, and smelt like a cheese trapped within a greek tragedy, she was most importantly the enemy of his enemy and thus, as the saying went, his friend.

Thankfully there was more than one door into the staff room - he slipped out of the one furthest from Dark Snow. As he walked, he began to think about the teachers who were in the staff room. Bryonna was the one who had poked fun at him and his "choice" of clothing. She referred to herself as Bryon, but that sounded like a boy's name! Her hair reminded him of Legolas from the Ford on the Rinks movie he had heard so much about. He didn't understand what the hype was about a ford on an ice rink (he had never seen it, admittedly, just the promotional clips).
Are short people with hairy feet better at ice skating than the taller non-hairy variety of person?
He wondered absent-mindedly, before returning to the original topic on his mind. He would never admit it, but Jas stared at Bryon's bum whenever she left a room. He felt really bad about it; he knew that Lalita would destroy him if she found out (so he presumed). At any rate, he didn't really understand what Bryon did there at the school. Jas knew that it involved a lot of computer access. He remembered that much because of that one time he accidentally dropped a xylophone on one of her students. The resulting chaos caused a laptop to slide across the hall floor and tumble down the stairs.

Has she forgiven me for that?
He thought. Thankfully Jas' xylophone had gone unharmed, although it was a lot heavier than he had estimated. It had broken that student's arm, after all.
Or maybe my falling on top of him had something to do with that?

Jas shook his mind of those thoughts and then slipped into thoughts about Kelly Stevens. She was a cohort in Dark Snow's evil plan, or so he was starting to think. But it didn't really fit her. He always saw her galloping about being a saint to her students. However, In the staff room she seemed jittery. It was probably the excessive amounts of coffee she drank. Everyone knew how much she liked coffee and whenever the coffee ran out, the staff members turned their eyes to her; and there she would be, enjoying the last cup of hot, delicious brew (true story!). Thankfully Jas was not one such staff member in need of coffee. Her hair reminded him of horses and she taught Mathematics. He had this funny theory about Mathematics teacher: he believed that they were the best people to ask for lottery ticket numbers. In keeping with this theory, he had went to her classroom several times to get help with his number choices. He never actually asked her for help, though.

His memories of Kyle Lion (Mr. Rawr) were not especially pleasant ones. It's not like he feared Kyle Lion. It was more along the lines of hate. Yes, Jaswinder Jakkamsetti hated Kyle Lion - mostly because he was jealous. He was jealous of Mr. Rawr's magnificent grasp on the English language - Jas still had some difficulties with words like pineapple and pinnacle (or was it lackadaisical and portcullis?). It wasn't his native language, after all. Kyle's accent was attractive, whereas Jaswinder's accent was the sort befitting bobble heads and racially motivated jokes about India. Plus, he rode a motorcycle! Jas found this aspect of Kyle dangerous and immature. Jas also understood how cool it made Mr. Rawr. He wanted to be cool, too!
And don't get me started on his swagger. . .
Jas thought, sighing. There was one thing about Kyle that he didn't understand and that was his forearm tattoo (Jas hated tattoos, incidentally); it said "Forgiven".
Forgiven for what? Did he murder someone? Rob a bank? Sacrifice himself for a bunch of sinners and rise from the dead three days later?
Jas considered. It aggravated him that Kyle would put something so ambiguous on his body. He found Kyle all too mysterious - plus, he hated his personality. His personality was like spring in Pompeii demolished by Mount Vesuvius. Yeah, it was that bad.
Plus, I think he is a little racist. . .

Jaswinder texted his wife. It was a strange thing - texting. He didn't talk to her much so texting seemed like the natural alternative to their communication habits, but he liked the relationship the way it was and felt texting was a danger to the status quo. So, to prevent such relationship damaging conversation, he developed codes. The code he sent now was,
"Code Chicken Burst".
Jas went to a chicken farm once. He couldn't recall now as to why he was at the chicken farm that day, but that was not the point of this story. When he was there, the farmer had taken them to see the coop. But instead of seeing hens laying their eggs, one of the hens exploded in a flurry of feathers and nasty bits. The farm owner said that this was a normal occurrence, so Jas didn't question it too much. However, the wardrobe for that day was completely ruined like it had been today. This code told Lala that he needed a change of clothes. He sat outside and waited for her, but she appeared rather quickly after the text had sent. This was good; he didn't have to endure all the pointing and snide remarks. Jas opened the car door and sat down in the passenger seat.

Lalita passed him a backpack as she eyed his current attire carefully. She rubbed her thumb along one of the stains for a moment.
"We're going to have to throw these out," She said as casually as money laundering,
"Good thing I bought an extra pair. You'll have to get it down from the attic once you get home."
He smiled in that way he did when he was sorry for an inconvenience and a little embarrassed. She nodded, placing her hand over his and squeezing it tight. Then he started taking his shirt off and she had to stop him, pulling it back down.
"Jas, remember what I told you about appropriate changing locations? This isn't one of them." She said. He gave a displeased grunt: he had never been very embarrassed about changing. In fact, he had a bad habit of changing in an area not suitable for such. Still, he knew Lala was right about most things. They stared into each other's eyes a moment, then he stepped out of the car. She drove off and he went inside.

Appropriate places to change . . . Behind a tree plant? No. In the stairwell? No. Elevator? I wish! On the roof? Seems a bit much. . .bathroom it is!
With that decided, he went to the boy's restroom and began to undress. Unfortunately, before he could put on the new clothes, three students walked into the restroom. He waved absentmindedly at them, not really registering the gravity of the situation. They said some things, laughed a bit, and fled; he was confused by that. The clothes he changed into were very casual and not something he felt was appropriate for a teacher: it looked like he was one of the students! He put on the backpack and walked out. He was immediately accosted by a teacher.
"What are you doing?" The teacher said. Not sure what to say, Jaswinder said nothing. This seemed to infuriate him even more.
"I'm going to tell the principal on you and they'll contact your parents!"
"Wha. . . huh? What? But whatever you do, do not contact my parents by telephone! It will be a disaster!"
"Aha!" The teacher said. "That is exactly what I'll do!"
"No, you mustn't!"
"I will!"
"I'm innocent of all crimes! Well except for the bleach - and I think I just stripped for a bunch of thirteen year olds. . .but otherwise quite innocent!"
"You what!?" The teacher said, quite shocked.
"Oh don't worry about it, I'm a teacher." Jas explained, although he had left any proof of this in his classroom.
"Aha! Impersonating a teacher now, are we? I'll just add that to the list of things I'll tell your parents." He said and then he stomped off.

He was a rather old man - Jas was pretty sure that he was about to be retired. In fact, wasn't it next week or tomorrow? Either way, Jas saw it as a good thing that the teacher was leaving the high school - he was clearly senile. Jas heard his phone beep from inside the backpack. He pulled it out. It was a reminder of the staff meeting about to happen soon.
Hopefully I won't get in trouble for the various discrepancies I have committed today. . .
Jas thought as he went to his classroom to grab his work satchel. When he came out of his class, satchel at the ready, he found himself in a thicket of zombies. Well, students dressed as zombies.
"Hey Jas!" Rainbow girl said, now Rainbow Zombie. Jas wasn't sure what to say to a bunch of zombies.
"I came by to show you my toupée of zombies!" She said. Her zombie troupe clawed at doors and passing students.
"Um. . .I think you meant troupe. Unless the lot of you are here to cover up a giant zombie's baldness?"
"Oh," Rainbow Zombie said, embarrassed. Her troupe snickered at her wildly. "Yeah, troupe."
Jas and Rainbow Zombie stood around awkwardly. What was he supposed to say? Congratulations on your brainlust? It wasn't even Halloween!

"Why are all of you dressed like zombies?" Jas hazarded.
"Because zombies are awesome! We want to start an Undead Club, except minus the lame vampire cliche." Rainbow Zombie said.
"Yeah, we no want no sparkles in this hood!" A student said in an attempt to sound cutthroat. He managed stupid?
"I have a staff meeting to get to now. . ." Jas said.
"Oh. OK. We're going to go eat some cow brains to start adjusting our taste buds to synapses and squishy bits." Rainbow Zombie said. Jas nodded, slowly. The zombie troupe went to the elevator and Jas went toward the staff meeting.
Do we even have clubs?
Jas wondered idly. He'd have to ask someone about that later.

Re: [OOC] The Other Side of the Coin

I began work on my post tonight but I must postpone the actual submission until tomorrow morning. . .I am much too tired. Look forward to it?

By the way, Jaswinder talks about his impressions of Bryon, Kyle, and Kelly. He'll be stating a few things that may or may not be true about your characters - it's only his perception and his flights of fancy. Just something to be aware of!

EDIT: Several days late. . .but I finally got it up. It's a long post and I had to edit it. . .@_@

Re: [OOC] The Other Side of the Coin

I'm sorry that I haven't been posting. I've been trying to find something to post but had nothing. Congrats, Milady! :D And HAppy New Year everyone!

Re: [OOC] The Other Side of the Coin

:O WHAT!? ZOMG! That's great, Milady!WOOP WOOP!

Well I'm not one for Holidays, although this Holiday is more of a technicality than the others (I can't exactly AVOID the first of next year lolx). . .anyway, I am writing my novel so I would say I am ending this year on a good note. =] That's what is important to me, anyway. No one is confessing their love to me today but I'm OK with that lolx.

Re: [OOC] The Other Side of the Coin

Just want to say:
Happy New Year, everyone. I hope that 2012 will be a great year for all of us.
And I also hope that you're ending 2011 on a good note - I definitely am. I found out that the boy I fancy likes me too and I spent four hours walking around and talking with him today :)
So, have fun at your New Year parties or wherever you are!

Re: [OOC] The Other Side of the Coin
