Terreth: A world where the cities are all on floating islands, a fantasy universe full of strange and magical people. The only mode of transport from city to city is airship. There are always the specialty airships, the ones equipped for certain tasks, whether it be the marines, cargo transport or people transport, each has a specific design. Except for one; The Phoenix. The crew of this airship are highly skilled and take almost any job that pays. The Phoenix can take on any job and anything that it needs to. Terreth is home to a variety of cities, each looks different in one way or another; but all are magnificent places that are full of opportunity and wealth. Most people in Terreth decide that they have no need for travel and adventure. But some people have the thirst for adventure. Terreth's cities' may have an abundance of opportunity inside the city, but Terreth also has an abundance of opportunity in the skies, traveling and transport, discovery and bounty. The only question is, will you join this world? ASK AS MANY QUESTIONS AS POSSIBLE IN THE OOC! I WILL ANSWER THEM!

The World Around Us

Image

This world is a tabula rasa of ideas, and we essentially make the world up as we go. There are no limitations to the places we will visit and the things we will see, so this roleplay depends hugely on the imagination of the people who participate in it! This also means that there will be a heavy amount of discussion in the ooc, so there should be active participation from everyone. Lastly, frequent posting will be needed seeing as all the characters, being of the same crew, will be so close at all times, and it is a traditional want to keep the story rolling. Besides that, have fun!

Arc I:

The crew has been flying without dock for several weeks now, and everyone has grown weary and wishes to step on land soon. So, as of now, the crew is deciding where to regain footing and resupply, and there are only three options. The islands of Paradiso, Parada, and Perodo are jungle islands which are each relatively close to one another: Paradiso is a well known thief den and a pirate hideout, Parada is a large jungle island but no one really knows anything about it, and Perodo is a small jungle island that had a peaceful colony on it but as of late has not been heard from, seemingly going dark. This decision may decide the fate of the ship and lives aboard…

Her eyes slightly opened as she watched the voting take place in silence, her leg up to her chest as she rested her chin on her arm that propped itself on the top of her knee. While the warmth did keep her somewhat calm, the memory of her brother and she playing pirates still remained in her mind making the votes seem even more important than before. She was happy with the fact that Parada was pulled from the polls, but Blue was nowhere near being satisfied- she wouldn’t unless the vote narrowed itself down to Paradiso. While it was true that the Black Ship was recorded to be docking at both ports, Blue had earlier decided that Paradiso would be her best shot.

She shuffled on the barrel a little before lowering her slender leg to sit in a much taller position, waiting for the other voters to finish.
“To be completely honest, I’d have to choose Paradiso as well. I doubt we would run into any serious problems we couldn’t solve on our own, not that we ever travel peacefully. If I am not wrong, I do believe that every time we stop, there always seems to be some sort of conflict so it’s pretty unavoidable. Plus, from the research we gather, we know exactly what to expect from Paradiso versus Peredo which seemed to be in complete darkness at the moment.” Blue crossed her arms underneath her chest as she watched them while keeping her complete composure.

Selitos Kammar

Selitos had waited patiently while the other spoke their piece. Their reasons for going to the different places were myriad and yet no decision had been reached one way or another. Most people seemed to be leaning away from Paradiso, all well and good as far as he was concerned. He had gauged his audience carefully, enough opinions had been heard that they could consider the matter fairly deliberated on, yet not so many as to have utterly convinced people to one side or another. Instead of going down and joining the group of crew on deck, he stood up on the capstan where he had been sitting, drawing everyone's attention to him as he did.

He looked around and smiled broadly as he began.

"A fairly momentous choice lies before us and we have heard much discussion as to where we should go. Some of you favour Paradiso as a sure choice. This is true, it is a known quantity. We know it to be full of slavers, criminals, swindlers and crooks. We would have to be constantly on our guard there should we go, and this voyage has been a long and tiring one. I ask you all, do we not deserve the chance to relax? Have we not earned the right to put our feet up, to not look over our shoulders and to hospitality, and welcome? Yes, Perodo has gone dark, no ships have come from there recently, however it is the harvest season and that is always a busy time of year. We might even be in time for the harvest festival." He looked around the crew gesturing broadly with his arms "Think of it! Roaring fires, hot meat so tender it almost falls from the bone, and beer, beer so dark and brown as to shame the very soil it came from. My kinsmen are a generous people for those that can pay and those that offer them aid. We can be more than marked men and women for a change. I urge you to consider what I have said. Perodo is our best hope! Last I had heard they were a prosperous town, even if it has been abandoned there will still be much wealth and loot to be had.

Alexandria listened to everyone rather impatiently. She didn't have a vote, so for the most part she kept quiet. She had already told her information to the captain. As the voting wore one she became more relaxed, since everyone seemed to want to avoid the pirate den. Granted where she wanted to go wasn't an option, but she would take what she could get.

Turning around she headed to the front of the ship while the debate went on. She wanted to keep an eye on their surroundings since everyone else was in the meeting. She looked down at the storm below wondering what sort of creatures, if any, resided there. She also wondered is there was a way beyond it.

Markel watched everyone vote, his head was reeling from the seemingly crazed amount of the voting. Markel hated doing such group-oriented things... Why couldn't he be alone with Caintry to tell him his thoughts in private. Markel watched them all, some votes were louder and prouder than others.

"Cap'N, I vote for Perodo. My brother, he is there now and I'd like to visit him again. I wonder if he is doing alright.." Markel looked past everyone and thought about seeing his brother again.

"Markiemoo!" A man's voice called out, turning quickly Markel felt tears well up in his eyes.

"Kapuchi." Markel ran over to the tall man hugging him tightly tears running down his furry cheeks. He hadn't seen his beloved Kapuchi in forever, a smile brightened on Kapuchi's face as he lifted Markel up onto his shoulders running about like they did as kids. To Markel Kapuchi looked like he did when he left. Markel felt so happy seeing his friend. Although Kapuchi looked sad, then randomly Kapuchi set Markel down and leaned over and kissed his head softly.

"I'm sorry Markie." Then as Markel felt a flush in his cheeks from the kiss, he felt tears as Kapuchi walked away. . .

Markel woke himself up from that, it was becoming very sad and he hated being sad. Wiping away some tears Markel looked up at the captain and leaned on him sniffling.

Elweise paced up and down the dock waiting for everyone to leave the captain's quarters so that she can speak to him, but it seems just as people start to leave more people just go in. Elweise, being probably the shyest member to The Phoenix, didn't want to deal with the other members of the crew, so she didn't go in with them. But soon the announcement of a vote came to the attention of the crew, and everyone was needed on the deck. To Elweise convenience, she was already there. Instead of going to see the captain, Elly decided to just wait for the vote. All the members of the crew started appearing on deck. Elweise tried her best to stay out of everybody's way, and heads to the back of the people crew.

One by one, the crew gave their opinion on which island they are going to land on. Paradiso, an island of crime, or Perodo, an island which has gone silent, were the choices being given to the crew. Elweise knew little of the islands, her isolated upbringing has made is so she knew very little of other places, and she has never been to these particular islands and knew nobody from them. She heard a little about Paradiso from other crews she's been on, but Perodo was mystery to her. There is apparently a small colony on Perodo, but she never heard anything more than that. When she felt like it was her time to vote Elly raised her hand to get attention, "Ummm... I vote for... ummm... Perodo... As the medic, it's my job to advise you to head to the safest island for the crew. Paradiso sounds to dangerous to me. Even if everyone on Perodo is gone, at least there would be nobody there to harm us. Uhhh... Yeah... In a crime hole like Paradiso, it's almost guaranteed that one of us will be shot, or stabbed, or poisoned, or hurt in some way."

Caintry heard the crew’s vote, and he listened, taking in everything from everyone as attentively as the next. He knew he could not please everyone, he would most likely even anger some, but as captain he had to choose what is right for the ship. Not for the individual, not the minority, and on the rare occasion, not even the majority when it lacked the intellectual potence of an educated decision; he had to decide what was best, for all of them despite their opinions. For, not only could they have an irresponsible amount of ignorance such as some drunks that Caintry could think of, they could have what he feared worse than stupidity when it came to voting; they could have personal bias or interest that would cloud their judgment when enacting with the responsibility of other lives on their shoulders. He could not fathom a better example of evil than knowingly leading anyone, even if they were evil themselves, into certain death over a feigned guidance in which you are truthfully only acting selfishly, and so he would have to try and deduce the actual best choice for him and the people he must guide, especially the young ones that he must raise and would die to protect. He thought long and hard about where to go, and them suddenly he recalled one of his many memories from his hundreds of years, this particular year being some time ago when he was still a cabin-boy for the Drunken Waitress. They docked in Paradiso…

“Lad! Get er` damned face out yer ass and let me celebrate us making it over here in one piece!” his former captain roared, harsh and demanding, and it sent the even younger Caintry startled and scrambling to complete his task, it was his first few months on the ship and he wanted to impress. All around them, a coarse myriad of shouting and noises rose from the docks that were alive around them, the smell of foreign spices and perfumes from the far east mixing with the usual pirate stench, and he saw all the strange people walking around wearing anything from colorful silks to tattered brown rags, some men and even women bound in chain were wearing nothing at all as free advertisement for the common sex-slaver. Caintry was excited, disgusted, amazed, horrified, and even intrigued by the scene, his romanticist hunger for adventure and experience raging like a fire, the sights around being the oxygen for it to feed off of as he engulfed himself in his wanderlust flame.

“Got any of the finer batch left for the captain?” asked Caintry as politely as he was taught to a fellow crew member he understood to be the acting Quartermaster, seeing the other just died last week, as he passed by, but Caintry realized that his geniality was soon to be scorned as the man’s face, painted by scars and purple-red bruises, soured into a rather hostile scowl. His furrowed brow showed his hair loss not only was on his balding head, but also patches were falling off from his eyebrows and his scruffy beard.

“You dat ittle` twat, ain’t ya? I’ll let ya lern a lesson dat ye er` never forget.” And with his cacophony that he must call grammar, he let out a grunt as he hit Caintry’s cheek with the back of his large and scabbed hand with as much force as the stout man could muster. Caintry took the blunt force unexpected of its coming, and so he whirled to the side as pain seared its way through his cheek all the way to the entirety of his face. Caintry, with his vision blurring from his already swelling eye, looked as most of the off-deck crew was staring at him with amusement, the others only missing his embarrassment because they were “prospecting” some of the slavers’ merchandise, and Caintry knew if he did not show strength soon they would leave him in Paradiso without a second thought. He had to show strength, zeal. So, he reacted as he knew his new captain would want him to.

With a boyish howl that was his best attempt at intimidation, Caintry jabbed the man’s throat with a concentrated and hard punch, feeling his fist driving the man’s bulging adam's-apple deeper into his throat, and when the man was brought unto one knee, holding his throat with wheezing gasps, Caintry grabbed the man's head with both hands. With a quick motion, Caintry brought his knee up as hard as he could, also pulling the man’s head down with equal force, and he felt his knee shatter the man’s nose, quickly spewing crimson blood unto the dock wood. Within another few seconds, the makeshift Quartermaster was laying in a heap, barely breathing with red liquid gushing from him unto the ground, and Caintry stood out of breath as the fresh pain of the slap still was on him. The captain walked over with even more amusement than before, and then with a grin he chuckled and spoke with a slight laugh in his words.

“Oh meh own Quartermaster is beatin by a boy! I em serry for yer embarrassment mate, but I am more serry fer dis.” Caintry watched in horror as his captain, his smile never faltering, kicked the bloodied man off the pier, and Caintry winced as a shriek of terror pierced the air when the live body disappeared over the side of the dock, flailing in a desperate attempt to grab abhold of something, so he listened as the wails slowly faded and grew fainter until he heard no more, knowing that the man had finally fallen to a distance out of earshot. Caintry was petrified as the captain came closer to whisper in his ear.

“Take that as an example, my dear lad, and know that fear and strength rule a ship. You shit-head Denaucane need to understand that democracy is fucking dumb idea.” Caintry was shocked at his words, for they were, although vulgar, more proper than he had ever heard his captain speak, now clearly his informality was a front to relate to his men. Caintry decided he would indeed learn much from this man, but he would not learn how to be a captain by following the captain’s example, he would by going against it…

Caintry returned to reality and thought on of his other occasional times to Paradiso, he had been many times, and he came to realize for the first time that the colony was one of the few places left he had not been. Also, to add to that, he could be the first to make contact to a lost colony or even play detective a bit and discover some new volcano that wiped them out or even hunt down the pirates that savaged the innocent colony, no doubt the Avanessee paying them heavily for gracing them with revenge, but any way it played in his head, he saw grand adventure and danger that bested some of the more ostentatious pirate tales even. He felt the gravitational pull of the uncertain, of adventure, tug at his soul just as it did when his intuition drug him away from the peaceful island of Denauc, with its quiet rolling hills and tranquil streams flowing through lush forest, and into a life of gunpowder, splintered wood, and the love of the future, not of the gains it may hold but just the possibilities. Also, for a selfless reason, it was ,in fact, safer, so he made his decision.

“We will go to the island that holds the most safety, and also the island that won the vote. We go… to Perodo!” Caintry shouted with as much charisma as he could muster, his voice powering through the atmosphere of the deck, and he raised his saber high in the air, it gleaming a sparkling silver in the intense and golden sunlight. His signature smirk devilishly crept across his lips, and his eyes twinkled with the excitement for the coming events.

Onwards we go!

Drifting towards the island of Perodo…

The Phoenix was on the direct path towards the island, its green wilderness emphasized by the bright blue that the upper-sky held, and the mountains blocked the view of the inner island. The Phoenix gracefully neared the island, coming almost in shooting range to the lush and grown shores, having no good place to land for the mountains went straight up leaving no flat ground for standing or makeshift docking, so to find any hope of landing one would have to circle the island for a spot to set foot, hoping there was one at all. The Phoenix trudged along as if it was tired, being out at sky for so long, so the need to land was immediate, its back rotors now seemingly sluggish compared to the usual spritefulness in which the ship operated. It was mid-day now, the sun towering high and powerful in the middle of the sky, causing a radiated heat if one were to sit still too long, but a breeze would occasionally come in almost as if to save the day, cutting through the humid heavy air giving the relief of a cool feel on the skin and a clear breath in the lungs. The ship turned to avoid getting to close, and now hugged the island to circle it in the search for the landing spot, and the man that was making the maneuver at the wheel was none other than Caintrty himself.

He was alone on the deck to his thoughts while everyone else was someplace other than there, under the deck or in some other nook and cranny they find themselves in, so he was contently steering in peace. Food had grown to near none now, no one having what they preferred anymore, but nothing else had really happened on the peaceful drift towards the island from where they were, a boring affair. It was not long, however, before hunger would set in, no doubt setting in too soon for some already, and that meant that any differences or arguments that were small before could be catalysed by the hunger. So, it was imperative that they find a source of food soon to keep up morale and save some needless fights, and Caintry was doing just that, keeping both eyes wide for anywhere to land but hopefully the colony, wishing the navigator was here to help. The day was continuing with no doubt troubles ahead, from within crew but definitely outside, however the Phoenix had more daunting tasks before.

And so the crew would come to find that Phoenix had not had a more daunting tasks...

Alexandria sat in her room oblivious to how close they were to their destination. Her tail was swaying in annoyance as she tried to figure out how to make the rations work. The stew had become soup and the soup had become thinner and thinner. Finally giving up she poured a bowl for everyone and again skipped her bowl. Only those who had known her awhile could tell the true amount of weight she had lost. She had taken it upon herself to have only a nibble here and there, only enough to keep her alive.

Setting the bowls on her tray she set about making her rounds. Setting their bowls on the outside of their doors as they were getting more and more irritated and she didn't feel like dealing with their crankiness. Her new way of letting them know their food was up was a series of five knocks exactly. She took the Captain his last, knowing that he would be steering the ship.

First thing she noticed when stepping on topside was the heat. Looking around she saw that they were near land and she headed up to where Capt. Caintry was a smile on her face. The wind ruffled her hair a little sending small strands everywhere. The sun showed just how pale she was from staying below deck and skipping meals. Halfway up the stairs she ended up ripping off her sleeves and stuffing them into her pockets the head getting to her. Her tail flicking back and forth she finally approached him.

"I see we made it Captain Cainy. Err I man just Captain." she looked down and held out her bowl, her hand shaking slightly from weakness. "Heres yer meal. I ope ye enjoy it. put me heart and soul into tryin to make it bearable. I just hope there be somthin here ta feed the crew. They're gittin hungry and cranky, like them bears I be feadin about sometimes." she said then went quiet watching as they looked for somewhere to dock. She lost herself in her thoughts and the feel of the warm sun.

When Blue was enrolled in the military, she dreamt of being a part of the Court Guards. While she knew it was a long shot considering that only four mixed breeds ever got into the Court Guards within the Tonagi history, it didn’t matter to her. Blue wanted to be one and for all she knew, she was going to accomplish her goal. Blue stayed up late, studying for written exams and everyday classes. When she wasn’t studying, Blue practiced her fighting. Even when she was sick, she was determined enough to study and push herself to the edge. Blue even got into the specialized training that occurred after the military service if you were gifted enough to be eligible for the Court Guards.

She didn’t cease and continued her hard work. It got to the point where it was abnormal to see her without bandages wrapped around her hands and arms or plugs up her nose. Blue worked so hard and got so close, she could almost taste the Court Guard’s position. Unfortunately, she wasn’t enough. No matter how hard she tried, she was always surpassed by a full blooded Tonagi- whether it was physical skills or intelligence. After two years enrolled in the program, she was dropped. Blue was torn completely and spent two full weeks at home doing nothing productive but sleeping. She couldn’t take having her dreams smashed- all the hard work she did and all those sleepless nights. Even the injuries which littered her body from all the intense training she did ached from the shattered vision.

Willsih, however, excelled through the specialized training. He was even recruited by the Royal Family themselves to serve as a Court Guard. Blue, swallowing her greed and envy, smiled and urged him to join. When he rejected, Blue felt enraged. She felt as if he was poking fun at her dreams and the unattainable goal hit her once more. Blue thought it was completely unfair that he so simply rejected. While she knew it was her personal dream, she was unable to comprehend why he had said no so easily. When she confronted him about it, his answer of ‘Because it was too much of a hassle’ only angered her more and before she knew it, the two began to fight about the matter- literately. They went all out yet still kept themselves controlled so no major harm would be inflicted on either of them.

Once more, Blue lost to her younger brother. She remembered that time so clearly. She lied face down in the dirt with tears in her eyes as Willsih treated her wounds and his own. Even though she was silent- with the exception of quiet sniffles- Willsih continued to speak. He told her stories about his time while he was enrolled in the military and even asked her about her own experience. When she continued to stay silent, Willsih began to play with her hair. This was something he did so very often and while it was a pain in the ass to untangle and brush, it was very comforting to Blue. It was completely soothing.

So she allowed him to tie in knots, to pour sand and dirt over it, to try to braid it then pull on it until it became matted. He did this all while rubbing her back, trying prevent her from actually crying. When Blue cried- which she rarely ever did- it was an ugly sight no one would ever want to see. Even though Blue wasn’t exactly weeping, she could feel the tears of frustration threatening to drip out so the fact that her brother also sensed her discomfort and malice made her feel as if she wasn’t alone with the feeling. When Willsih yanked her hair to try and loosen a knot, Blue quietly threaten that she’d cut her hair. That she’d chop it all off so he wouldn’t tangle it or dirty it. Willsih smiled, he chuckled before putting another stick in it.

“If you cut your hair, you will be ugly and I will not play with you anymore.”
Of course, Blue simply snarled and kept threatening but in reality, she never did cut her hair. Her brother meant everything to her. Even when she had relationships with the men on the Sharnown Islands, she always made sure that her brother was above them all for she had developed a dependency on him. Even when the Royal Family ordered her to stay within the Sharnown Islands and marry the future Island Head, Blue didn’t hesitate to leave to try and rescue him, even if it left her as an abandoning traitor. She would not return unless Willsih was by her side. That is, if she decided to ever return.

Blue’s eyes opened against the sun’s penetrating rays and the sticky, humid air that seemed to have collected itself in the navigation room. She sat up from her hammock and stretched, grateful that the Captain had allowed her to catch up on her sleep after she had talked over the plans, routes and how to get there. She stopped and stared at the tattered dress that rested in front of the hammock to separate the view from the windows, her arms still up in the air in her stretching position. She had another dream about the memories of her and Willsih- how disheartening.

Nonetheless, it didn’t stop Blue from scooting off the hammock, her feet touching the sweating floor as she turned to the chest underneath the hammock and pulled it gently. If she was correct, Blue would have one last change of clothing that was currently clean. It had been seemingly forever since she had done laundry last and even longer since she had a decent bath that didn’t involved rags and bucket of water. The humid air clung to the nape of her neck, causing her unkempt hair to eagerly stick to it. She opened the chest and pulled out her last clean pair of clothing. Blue deemed it lucky that they were heading towards a destination soon- even if it weren’t the choice she wanted.

Though, it wasn’t like Blue really remembered much of the vote. All she did recall was the choice that they would be heading towards Perodo and the fact that Markel had a brother. It wasn’t the fact that he had one more like the fact that he was able to visit him while Blue still had nothing. The jealousy she received from this attacked her like a monster and before Blue could even realize what was going on, she was asking the Captain if she could retire to her room for several hours to catch up on sleep. Perhaps it was a good thing she did since the envious creature that lurked behind her heart before was now much smaller with little to no presence. She felt better too; no more flashing memories or headaches.

Blue began to pull off her clothes, throwing the dirty ones that were now sweaty thanks to her sleep in a burlap sack that sat in the corner. She shimmied herself out of her black boots and tan pants, tugging on her new and clean clothes which consisted of a white button down shirt and black pants. Her favored jumpsuit was already dirty but Blue knew as soon as she washed it, she’d be back in it in no time. She tugged her black boots back on and let her hair down, cringing at the grimy feeling. It didn’t take but a second to braid it and pull it back into a braided bun, pinning up the loose hairs so they wouldn’t stick to her face.

With a sigh, she pulled the tattered dress aside and dragged the burlap sack away from the corner and positioned it at the door so she wouldn’t forget about it when they located an area where she could do such tedious chores. To allow the air to circulate more, Blue opened her door, propping the sack against it to prevent the door from closing and met a bowl of soup. It had seemed she had slept through meal time. Blue picked it up and spooned the liquid a little, wondering how Alexandria ever does things like this. When it came to kitchen work, Blue was as useless as a rock.

She slowly ate the meal while she watched the sky from her windows. Once again, she made her way towards them and created a seat on the sill, hoping that a breeze will dance themselves towards her. Her head went back against the frame when the rest of the soup was gone and Blue’s eyes lightly closed as she thought about her dream, wanting to reminisce in such sweet nostalgia once more. As if the pins where of no help, a strand of hair fell lose and curved itself around her neck, causing Blue’s eyes to open and to grasp it, looking at the long black thread as if she was seriously debating on cutting it.

Without a moment to spare, Blue tucked it behind her ear and raised herself off of the sill, placing her bowl on the table and grabbing the apple that Selitos had left off of her desk. She tucked it into a large pocket and left the navigation room, making her towards the deck where the Captain was located. When Blue had made it on deck, she could see the island’s shore and how close it really was. It would only take but a few moments to dock the ship if they found an accessible port or landing area.

Selitos Kammar

Selitos observed the island as it passed by. A curious sort of place that had trees that grew from the leaves up into a root system that connected to the earth above it. That was probably only because he was looking at the world upside down as he hung with his knees wrapped around a spar. They had gotten a little drunk last night upon seeing land in the first time for a while, and he couldn't remember if someone had dared him, if it was just for morale, or if he had boasted that he could play the lute and sing upside down better than any of the crew could standing right side up. That was how he now found himself in this predicament.

He briefly strummed a chord and then began his shanty

"Farewell to all the sweet girls of Avenay, I'll miss your sweet presence and wish that I could stay, but the Captain says we go and the First mate roars below and much like the sun this ship shall rise again,

So here's to the lasses that we've kissed and to all the others we're going to miss, Their hair just like wheat and their great big round ............."

He trailed off as he saw Markel, he couldn't be sure but it seemed as though his next words were the subject of some scrutiny for the deck below. This might not be the time and place for this kind of education. So with much struggle and not a few curses Selitos made his way back down to deck level, with a flourish and a bow.

He decided that he wouldn't mind figuring out where exactly they were going. There were two possibly people who might know and he knew where they might be found. He walked along the railing feeling the cool island breeze play along his face. It was hard not to grin at being so close to land, and at one of the colonies too. His status as a member of the Imperial Talon, albeit a rogue one, granted him a certain amount of control and privileged in the Avenesian lands. The lions share of his authority came from the fact that Talon had a fearsome reputation as the long arm of the Emperor himself. The Emperors Watchers were often hand picked from the ranks of the Talon. In theory his authority was near limitless, in practice it extended as far as the favour of the Emperor allowed it. Those high in favour could effectively ignore him if not worse. Anyone lower down the pecking order however walked in fear of his gaze.

"Ah good captain, fair Blue," He said adopting a somewhat foppish manner and making a courtly leg,"I pray I find you in agreeable moods, for it is a most fortuitous day. How goes the navigation?"

Aurea

Rubbing her eyes, Aurea felt the sun kiss her face gently, peeking over the edge of the sky to shine down upon the world. Rays of light pierced her eyes, causing the woman to exclaim in pain and duck back down below the edge of the window. Grumbling quietly, she sat up, taking care to avert her gaze from the sun. Beneath her stretched a sleeping roll, crafted from cotton into a thinly woven piece of fabric for laying upon. Beginning a week ago, Aurea had taken to sleeping out in the hold, away from people and out of the stuffy cabin which she 'inhabited'.

Glancing around to ensure her privacy, she leaned over to open a haversack which she had utilized as a pillow for the night. From the bag she extracted her clothing, a cloak and dress of black. The leather she had left in her room, leather being much too warm to wear in this weather. Leaving the cloak on the small mat, Aurea wriggled into the dress, arms and head popping out as the cloth expanded to accept her body. Reaching back into the bag, she withdrew a small comb inlaid with silver, delicate lines of the metal running along the handle. Running it slowly through her hair, she chanted slowly and softly, meaningless words dropping from her lips in a similarly useless ritual.

Finishing with the combing, she restored the sleeping pad and sack to their hiding spots among the cargo of the ship, tucked away out of sight. Slipping the cloak over her shoulders and placing the pistol she had brought with her under the apparel, Aurea walked up to her room, pondering the situation. Perodo. Without any information as to its state, the chances of something being there could not be determined. Danger could at least be allocated to Paradiso in known amounts. If the others saw her apprehension, let them think nothing of it.

Passing by Alex as she was distributing the morning meal, Aurea thanked her. The cook really did too much for the crew. Sympathy washed away as she then recalled that the woman was a former pirate. A grimace flashed over her face as she continued onwards. Knowing the Caintry was wont to remain awake guiding the ship, she stalked up to the deck, leaning at the entrance and watching Blue, Selitos, Markel, and Blue as they interacted.

The scraping of stone against steel filled the small cabin in which the massive Varsh dwelled as he sharpened his blade to a razor sharp edge, though it was already sharp enough to slice through just about anything. A rumbling growl exited his stomach, and he set his sword down for a moment to rub it ruefully. He was hungry, but there was nothing to be done. They were on austere rations, but they should be close to land. These thoughts ran through his head, and then he decided to go up on deck in order to do one of the exercises he had learned on Skrael: The Hrash-rin-Marask, or War's First Dance. As he moved out onto the deck, his thoughts flew back to that blood soaked island...

"There's too damn many!" a voice streaked with panic called out over the sounds of grunts of exertion, screams of pain, and the never ending chittering of skraelings. In this little known island there was a never ending war between the Hashar clans of Skrael and the Skraeling Queens. Every few months a new swarm would descend upon the coastal settlements and the Hashari would move out to fight. Varsh had been sent to this by his father to season up as a warrior, but in this case it seemed he would die, for his warband had moved into an ambush.. Eighty Hashari warriors surrounded by over five hundred skraelings, giant ant-like creature. Varsh was coated in blood, but he kept fighting. He had tears on his arms and legs where he had been bitten, but the sword kept swinging. A great roar came from him again and again, and his fellow warriors took heart. Step by bloody step they pushed, and heaved, and fought, and died. The skraelings kept coming, but against that wall of muscle they had no chance.

Then Varsh took a stance on the open deck, making sure there was no one in range, and then began. His stance consisted of holding the blade parallel to his torso, his feet shoulder width apart, and then he began moving. His right foot moved forward in a confident step, and the blade began moving. He whirled and slashed, and thrust, all in carefully managed movements that were surprisingly graceful for a man Varsh's size.

Sebastian was constantly hustling around the ship. While he was glad that the vote swayed in favor of the dark colony, it had its downsides. For one, the crew would need to arm themselves properly if they were to meet considerable combat. If say the colony had been taken over by hostiles, then the crew would need every bit of ammunition available to them or possibly find injuries, perhaps even death.

The quartermaster rushed to each cabin, to each room placing sacks of ammunition on tables for each crew member. The amount varied on their job. Of course the gunner would get the most bullets, then the captain, and everyone else would get an equal distribution of powder and shot.

Sebastian himself was the lowest priority to arm, since he was an automaton after all. The advantage of being a machine was that he was less susceptible to taking damage as his more organic counterparts. On the other hand he could take more risks in a fight because of that factor. Of course a strong caliber shot at the right place in his skull could take him out easily, but that was unlikely. He armed himself with his pistols, knives, his sword, and two granadoes. He placed a thin leather vest over himself for deception. He felt they were ready for near anything.
