Introduction

The Story: Welcome, new trainers! You're about to embark on a Pokemon Journey with your faithful companion. Say goodbye to your family, for you may not be back for a while!

The Roleplay: This is a game-style Pokemon roleplay. You can do pretty much whatever you want to here. I will be narrarating the roleplay as a GM rather than an actual character. This means that I'll be whatever characters are needed. Travel companions, Gym Leaders, Rivals, Team Rocket, that's me. I'll add where I need to.

There are a few regulations on your character. You may only start with a single, unevolved Pokemon. You may not capture legendaries. You cannot kill, steal from, or greviously injure other characters (without their permission, of course). Other than that, it's a free-for-all. Travel with NPCs or OCs.

You may also begin anywhere in the original four regions, excluding the Rainbow Islands. Just give me time to create the world up to your hometown (which is where you'll begin) before posting. Also, make sure to select your location from the dropbox at the right of the "Posting" screen.

Also, you can become an explorer! After you gain some much needed experience as a trainer, you'll be able to travel to the uncharted regions of the map. Just make sure that you bring a companion or two out there, because it may get mighty lonely...

The Rules:
1 No Godmodding. Duh.
2 Cursing is not allowed.
3 Romance is allowed, but keep it PG10. Nothing past kissing, please. I mean, COME ON, it's a Pokemon roleplay.
4 Please subscribe, bookmark, or post to the OOC thread so that you'll know when I post information regarding how to Pokemon battle and other important information.
5 Speaking of the OOC thread... please keep OOC chatter or questions there. Please and thank you.
6 Literacy, please. I'd like posts of 2-3 good paragraphs. Please do your absolute best to use proper spelling and grammar. One or two mistakes are fine, but I want to be able to read it...
7 Check back here often. Let me know if you're leaving.
8 Leveling up is not part of the RP. Evolving pokemon will be based on the characters abilities. Use good judgement when you think its time to evolve, please.
9 I may make up more rules. They will be bolded.
10 I think that I will be overwhelmed by the number of people who would sign up, given the chance. Therefore, I will stop accepting characters after a few more. Once a few people quit, I will reopen signups. You can submit a character, go for it... but I may PM you to tell you that you'll have to wait a while before actually participating.

Updates:

-Posting: All IC will be located under the Activity tab (see above). Make sure to select the location that your character is before posting. If you accidentally post to "The Pokemon World", it's okay, just edit the post and cut it. Then go back and post it to the correct location.

-Location: It appears that the Location dropbox will not display all areas of the Pokemon World. Anything after New Bark Town seems to have been cut off. However, there is still a way to post to the hidden locations. Go to the Places tab and scroll down until you see the place that your character is. Click that location. Once there, you can see posts that are there

-Battling: To avoid clogging the IC, all battles with NPC (characters played by me) will be held in the Battle Arena, then posted to the IC in a condensed format by me. PvP battles will be held in the same manner.

-Random Events: To simplify things on the GM side, please pick a number, 1-10 unless specified, in every post.

-Unexplored Territories: As soon as I finish putting in all the locations for the known map, I will add the option for your character to travel to new places. You can see the map (linked above) for details. Of course, that's only if you want to. I just figured that I should have some kind of explorer option.

-Map: As of now, I have finished inputting data for all places in Kanto and Johto. Since I have never been a fan of Hoenn, I will have to go back and play some of Ruby in order to get my barings in that particular region. I will move on to Sinnoh, since I'm more familiar. So, until Hoenn's up and (sort of) running, no one start there! Or, if you're planning on it, wait until I finish. But that may take several weeks...

-Catching Pokemon: I will tell you when you encounter a Pokemon. I can tell you the technical way that catching them works, but basically, you can only 'attempt' to do things. If your Pidgey uses Scratch, I'll tell you whether it worked. If you throw a Pokeball, I'll tell you if that worked. So don't post that you catch every single Pokemon, because that would fall under rule #1.

(Wow, you picked up everything. I'll let you choose how to use the information that's given below.)

[Tekno Lahjik] The astute teenager would find that no one knew all that much about Saranna.

The two girls decided that that woudl be the best time to get up and walk away, first returning Graveller to its Pokeball. The suits were long gone, disappeared practically. The old man from the Fan Club took that moment to walk outside his place of work. Smiling politely at Tekno, he proceeded to sit on the bench and puff on an old-fashioned pipe, looking quite aristocratic all the while.

In the Pokemon Center, Nurse Joy looked out across the abandoned lobby. There was no one there to help or take care of, so she felt slightly lonely.

She knew very little about Saranna. The only facts that anyone knew were that she had moved to Vermillion City a little less than a year ago with only her Pokemon, purchased a red motorcycle, and ran an online business out of her home. She kept to herself and was generally very polite.

[Jack Cega] Immediately after Jack's Taillow stopped spouting warcries, timid and wild Pokemon began to poke their heads out from the grass, desparate to find the source of the sweet scent. So much so that when the girl with the Vulpix crossed through the grass, holding her Vulpix high above, the Pokemon didn't run away in terror.

"Looking for something special, are we?" The girl's voice was friendly and slight flirtacious. She sat on the edge of the blanket after helping Jack finish spreading it out. "What is it that you want?" Her Vulpix crooned to the small Spinarak that poked its head off of a stalk of grass. Also searching for the smell were a small Poliwag and a slightly larger Zigzagoon.

[Thach Wilson] Finally the counter opened up, and the two young trainers were able to approach the counter.

[Lee Wilters] By the time that Lee finished leaving his stuff in the room, it was getting late out. The streetlamps of the city began to light, even though it was still early by most standards and the light still shone in the sky.

The said guitarist had sat down on a nearby bench, instead of constantly standing. But when the young trainer approached him, he bolted to his feet, grinning. "Hi, I'm Joey. And this is my band." He pointed to the two Pokemon on the ground: a Chimecho and a Shinx. "Will you be headed to Johto any time soon? I'm trying to travel to Ecruteak City, to try and make a name for myself as a musician, but it's not safe anymore to travel alone, especially when you're as weak as me." He tried to look less helpless. "If you're going to travel somewhere else instead, that's fine as well, if you'll eventually be heading that way."

"Nice to meet you joey" lee smiled and watched the chimecho and shinx make shy introductions of their own to Sparks and Ralts. "This is sparks and Ralts" lee said gesturing to his two pokemon. Ralts hiding behind his legs and sparks seeming to be communicating with the chimecho and shinx. "A band you say?, that sounds interesting" He paused and seemed to be thinking. "Im off to Sapphiron right now with a friend who needs to take a growlithe there". "She's a breeder, you see". "But after that I'm not sure what ill do, whether ill challenge gyms or go journeying and searching for new pokemon". "Thats my goal you see, to catch as many pokemon as i can and become a gym leader, once I'm strong enough". "ill definitely cheer for you and support you when you become a musician" lee said laughing as ralts began to slowly creep around to the others. "Perhaps i could give you my number" he said pulling out his phone. "Shoot look at the time!, the store will close soon!" he said quickly and gave joey his number and ran off waving a quick goodbye and into the poke mart the two pokemon chasing after him,

*(Love Posting #9! ...Sorry, sometimes I can't resist a terrible pun every now and zen.)*

Tekno was a little surprised that his quest for information yielded little result. However, now that he knew she now ran an online business out of her home, he supposed that explained the business card quite nicely.

Still, if she had only arrived less than a year ago, then he still had to wonder exactly why those girls seemed scared of her. Perhaps it was because of her Mightyena? ...Was that even the only Pokemon she had? He figured this would warrant further investigation, although if those two girls were the only ones that seemed out-and-out frightened of her, then perhaps his initial impressions were probably misjudged? After all, Nurse Joy did state she was generally very polite.

Although, he debated, generally meant not-always. And keeping to yourself was also a standard, if possibly cliche, characteristic of people that were likely up to no good. Though, this didn't state her as a bad person--he kept to himself often as well, and he was certainly a nice enough guy. At least, he hoped he was.

~I am definitely putting WAY too much thought into this.~ He sighed. ~I'm being over-analytical again.~

His only two further questions for Nurse Joy would be to see how much a room would be and how much meals normally cost on average. Once he had gotten that information he decided that, if nothing else, he would go with his original plan regarding Saranna and take her up on her offer....and learn what sort of business she ran. He figured he still had some time to kill before he would head to the address listed on the card, so he decided to continue learning precisely what this business was....along with seeing where the best place to stage a show would be.

The Pokemon Center was nice and large--the east side of the lobby against the far open wall could potentially make a good stage--but he didn't want to bother the sick and injured Pokemon resting inside, and while the Center was spacious, it could get pretty cramped. No, if he was going to conduct a show, it would best be done outside. Problem was, he wasn't sure where it could best be performed.

On top of that..."C'mon, buddy." He said down to his partner. "We probably better find someplace to get some practice in." After all, what was the point in putting on a show if one didn't keep at it? Perhaps out somewhere on one of the Routes...someplace nice, wide, open...and maybe, if he was lucky, he could catch a few extra "performers" to help along with the show!

Lee entered the store with his two pokemon following behind him. He walked up to the counter and said a polite hello to the man there. He was tired and the shop was about to close at any moment so lee didnt waste any time. "Can i get a pack of 5 pokeballs, a few potions and an antidote"? The man and Lee exchanged the items and money and lee put them in his bag and left the shop. It was dark now and the street lights were the only things lighting his way back to the pokemon centre. "I wonder where Melissa could have got to.." he thought

The northern half, past a small cafe, is covered by dense fog, but travellers think that it covers an area of high cliffs above a waterfall. It leads to Celestic Town.

Re: [OOC] The Pokemon Experience

Hey everyone, sorry for my absense from the roleplay. I've just been very busy with schoolwork, other work, and other roleplays that I just haven't had time to put forth the necessary work for this.

But anyway, now I'm back. :D

For people who haven't posted in a while or plan to take an extended absense, that's fine, as I've said before. If you're travelling with anyone besides me in the roleplay, you'll probably want to let them know, but other than that, it's just kind of 'at your leisure'.

Anyway, it's back to the grindstone. Hopefully, I'll start to get closer to inputting all the places in Hoenn soon, since people are travelling there. O_o

Re: [OOC] The Pokemon Experience

Ah, okay. Yeah, that makes sense.

It also makes sense my character Tekno (who has never been to Kanto before, ever) would not know of the Pokemon Center charging for rooming, like he was confused, since the Centers in his home region of Vohkani do not. To him, the only thing he is aware of that they charge for meals (since they DO have to make money somehow).

Alright, that clears things up a bit more. Thanks!

Re: [OOC] The Pokemon Experience

Music wrote:((Haha, another thing I'm winging. Since I'm not sure, let's just assume that in Johto and Kanto, they charge for food and rooming at the Pokemon Center, since they don't have enough room for all of the new trainers. By the way, do you remember the name of the big company from Hoenn? It's not Silph Co...))

Oh I know this one since my chara is from the Hoenn universe, the Silph Co of Hoenn is called Devon Corporation (aka Devon Co) an it´s "base" is in Rustboro City.

Re: [OOC] The Pokemon Experience

Yeah, it's kind of like the other roleplay, except I base my moves every turn off of the number. It applies in battles, but it also is out of battle.

For example, if you're in a conversation with a character that I haven't really explored character-wise yet, then I choose the personality based on how close your number was to mine. If it's right on the button, then that character might have a personality that complements yours, or if they already have a personality determined, then they'll be more favorable to the character.

Wild Pokemon also use this method. If it's pretty clear that you're looking for a Pokemon (or even if you're not) then I'll roll to see (a)whether you can find a Pokemon and (b) how good of a Pokemon I consider it to be. A good example is the fact that, since ShatteredMind rolled my number before my last post, she found a Skitty that didn't even need to be battled in order to own it.

A third example: if you're wandering around in the wild, then I'll use them to figure out how lost you get.

Re: [OOC] The Pokemon Experience

I think Music is using a roll system, just like you say, at least according to this post in the arena:

Music wrote:((Just so you are aware, this is why we choose numbers. The closer your number is to the one I pick, the more favorable I make my moves to you. You chose 3, my number was 4... ))

And that would explain how I barely ended without the chance to catch a pokemon... twice.

So yeah, we are playing like dungeons and drangons, rolling to decide which comes next.

Re: [OOC] The Pokemon Experience

I have a dumb question, what's with the number each post, anyway? Is this like our other roleplay where we just randomly pick a number, from a select range, and have the next post (events, outcomes) be determined by luck of the draw?

If it is, I apologize, because each post I had was simply increasing in number with each successive post. >XD And I was a little ignorant otherwise, and I just wanted to ask for clarification. Or does the "roll of the die" only apply to stuff like battles?

Re: [OOC] The Pokemon Experience

Haha, it's okay... after all, that's the idea of the roleplay... since you're travelling alone (for the most part) you can take things at your own pace. So if you have to take a reprieve from RPing, you can always come back anytime you want and it (hopefully) won't be dead.

Re: [OOC] The Pokemon Experience

Okay.

Sorry it took me so long to get around to this--meant to do this, like, a million years ago!

Re: [OOC] The Pokemon Experience

That would be great, if you could PM it to me. Also include an backstory that the region has, such as any Gym Leaders and such...

As for Tekno, it's your choice... XD

Re: [OOC] The Pokemon Experience

Okay, gotcha.

I have a very crudely drawn map of Vohkani (Tekno's home region) drawn and uploaded to my computer somewhere. I'll post it or PM it to you, whichever you'd like.

And I completely understand. I might make some minor changes to Tekno here than in the other roleplay...or I may keep them and integrate them into the other one, not sure. LOL

Re: [OOC] The Pokemon Experience

Haha, go for it. It's kind of a no-pressure roleplay, meaning you can take it at your pace. BTW, I'll be posting to the other roleplay as soon as I finish a ten-page essay that's due Monday. O_o

As for starting in Kanto, you don't have to. It's just random chance that everyone so far has chosen that region to begin in. RIght now, Kanto, Johto, and some of Hoenn is open to start in. And if you want to start in Sinnoh, then you'll have to wait, because it takes forever to input all the places to the roleplay. But you have to start in one of the four regions.

I would prefer if your character was from one of the four regions as well, but if you wanted to make up a region, send me a map or some sort of basic explanition and I'll add it to the list of places I have to add. A made-up region would be fun to toy with.

The only other requirement is that they begin with a basic or baby level Pokemon. But this doesn't mean that they have to be pathetically weak. Your Pokemon, even though it wouldn't be evolved yet, could be fairly powerful.

The only reason I have the whole 'characters must be approved' thing set up is to prevent a buttload of new trainers bombarding me this weekend. So go ahead and submit, and I'll tell you if there is anything that you would need to change.

Re: [OOC] The Pokemon Experience

I'm tempted to possibly jump in as well...not sure, though, as I'm not sure if I want to go with Tekno or somebody else.

I do have an odd question--even though we're starting in Kanto, could I have it to where my character is from another region that isn't in the games? And is it preferable they start out with a weak Pokemon, as like a beginning trainer? Just thought I'd ask...

Re: [OOC] The Pokemon Experience

Alright, thanks for letting me know, Cryovizard. It's no problem at all.

For any wild Pokemon, you'll just post to the IC. All Pokemon you'll encounter in the wild will be fairly weak, so you will only need two or three posts in order to defeat it or catch it. For legendary Pokemon encounters, I haven't worked that out yet, but I'll figure it out if that should become more important. It will be extremely difficult to encounter a legendary Pokemon.

Re: [OOC] The Pokemon Experience

Apologies for the double post, but I have a question.

If we are about to battle an NPC wild Pokemon, regardless of intention to capture or not, do we have to go through the whole Chat battle process? I'm just thinking about flow of RP.

On another note, about 2 hours after this post I'll be gone for the weekend.

Re: [OOC] The Pokemon Experience

Just a forewarning, I'll be gone for most of this weekend. I may get on once or twice, but I'll be at my girlfriend's. No promises on posts.

Re: [OOC] The Pokemon Experience

Ok got it, don´t worry I´m an old school player I didn´t pass from the Ruby/Sapphire versions since barely died from dissapointment with Colosseum (A lot of reasons) so I stuck u in the ruby attacks, and I get the HM thing can´t use surf on a Magikarp (can´t) or a Goldeen (Size) so yeah I will start moving later. I need to think in the starter skills of my Bagon.

Re: [OOC] The Pokemon Experience

Okay, about the Route: I'm pretty sure. *shrugs nonchalantly* If you look under the "Places" tab in the roleplay, you can see all the places that I've added so far. Only halfway there... but it should say somewhere. Just take the road west from Viridian. I'll figure out what it is before you actually leave Viridian.

As for the attacks, you don't need to use an HM to be able to cross bodies of water and such. Just be realisitc. For example, in the games, you could teach a baby Squirtle Surf and then cross the ocean. But that doesn't make sense, since the poor thing would probably die from exhaustion. If you have a Pokemon that's capable of using an ability (such as Surf, Teleport, Cut), you'll be able to. Just post ahead of time (say, Suzzy says, "I want to get to Pallet Town really fast. I'll use my Abra to teleport there') and I'll tell you in the GM post whether or not that's possible.

As for other moves, just be realistic as to your Pokemon's capabilities. I don't care if you use moves that normally wouldn't be there, as long as they make sense for the Pokemon and aren't way overpowered. (Mareeps can't use Horn Drill. Nor can they use Thunder.)

I won't be posting to the IC tonight. Too much work to do. ReEvolution needs to move her post to Pallet Town...

This roleplay is a LOT of work. I may be putting a temporary limit on the number of people that are allowed to join until I get into an easier time. Like summer. That would be awesome.
