Description

Image

Full Name: Dawn Evelyn Memoli

Nicknames/Aliases: N/A

Age: 17

Gender: Female

Species: Human (Gifted)

Original Canon: Dawn hails from a world where the Age of Gifted rules, and is torn apart by the conflict between two superpowers. The young woman is a member of the Wanderers, a splinter group that wants little to do with the conflict, and merely wishes to survive.

Description: Being a teenager girl, Dawn isn’t exactly the most physically formidable. Clocking in at around 4’9” when in boots, her build is more slight than anything, with little muscle mass to speak of asides from that on her legs. Her body is made up of still-developing curves, although these tend to be hidden beneath the loose-fitting outfits she prefers to wear over others. She has thick, raven black hair that falls to her hips, ashen grey eyes, and pale skin, giving her an overall monochrome appearance.

Dawn’s typical outfit consists of a pair of plain denim jeans, boots, and a long-sleeved shirt. Above this, however, she has taken to wearing a dark grey jacket, which is often left completely zipped up. She has a tendency to slip her hands into her pockets when thoughtful, nervous, or excited, and another habit of fidgeting.

Personality: By nature, Dawn is a gentle, maternal soul, opting for more pacifistic approaches if possible, and harboring a strong dislike for getting her own hands dirty. She can be a tad quiet at times, preferring to listen and empathize with others instead of focusing too much on herself. She’s fairly modest, and has a tendency to get flustered with the right questions or comments. However, in spite of these factors, she’s also surprisingly cunning, putting careful thought into her actions and the resulting reaction. Dawn is fiercely protective over those she holds dear.

Skills/Powers: Dawn is a Mental Manipulator, meaning that she has control over a spectrum of abilities spanning under workings of the mind. This ranges from basic telepathy and the power to read minds, to being able to control a person’s very thoughts and body; although the latter tends to put quite a drain on her and her energy. Even further, her abilities are limited depending on how far she attempts to push them. For example, while she is able to read minds in a fairly broad radius, the more minds Dawn attempts to work with, the less control she has; meaning that people can easily slip from her control, blocking out her influence. The stronger the ability Dawn attempts to use, the more limited it is. Currently, Dawn also has a developing Dark Elemental Gift, although at its current stage, it doesn’t allow her to do much other than perform basic parlor tricks.

Besides her Gift-related skills, Dawn is also quite the diplomat, and has a knack for reading people even without using her power.

Weaknesses: Given the fact that she relies more on flight and her Gift in a confrontation, Dawn is physically weak and can be overtaken easily without her ability. If someone was able to bypass her abilities or take her off guard, she can be taken out without much trouble. She also has a crippling fear of fire, and will lock up or panic in the face of larger flames. Besides this, Dawn tends to bottle up her own feelings or worries in favor of addressing those of others, and is somewhat of a control freak at times.

Brief History: Dawn’s earlier years were spent living with her parents and brother in a pleasant, developing town. She was raised into her now-prominent pacifism, and was genuinely happy. However, when her family refused to swear allegiance to one faction or the other, their home was destroyed, and her parents killed in the blaze that followed. At the age of eight, she began her life in the wastelands, soon finding herself alone after being abandoned.

Thankfully, it didn’t take long for another to find her- a fellow orphan-, and together, both survived for several years. The two eventually parted as well, leaving Dawn alone until the age of sixteen, where she met another wandering soul and joined him, forming the early Wanderer group. Currently, she is still very much a member, and works with the group to provide some sense of stability during the war.

Other:
  • Self conscious of appearance.
  • Fond of chocolate chip ice cream.
  • Is a bit of a covert pervert.

So begins...

Cold. That was the first thing Dawn felt upon awakening. The second was the feeling of being completely soaked to the bone by...something. Shivering reflexively, the mind-manipulator pushed herself out of a puddle, wincing as the back of her head throbbed and moving to rub the tender spot once her hand was freed.

What happened? The last thing she could remember was them dealing with...well, whoever that speedster was. Some of them had been taking her to a building for the time being, Dawn knew, but other than that...her mind was hazy. She bit the inside of her cheek, attempting to stir something, only to have her focus broken by a gentle breeze hitting her damp clothing. Wrapping her arms about her torso, she rose into a standing position, squinting in the sunlight until her vision focused enough to let her see where, exactly, she was.

It was only until she laid eyes on the surrounding arena, on the various blurred figures surrounding her, that memory hit her like a brick- she had been in some sort of...darkness. There had been a voice, and according to it, she wasn’t in her world anymore. As the fog in her mind cleared, so did her use of her abilities, and soon enough she could hear faint voices within her skull like radio static. Not the best thing to have when her head was still pounding, but Dawn put it to use nonetheless, giving a brief scan of the area as soon as she felt that she could handle it. Some sort of godlike figure named “Rend”- that was the voice, apparently-...a fight, with a woman leaving somehow in the middle of it after...causing a storm? Some sort of mission to go on “adventures”, and so on, and so forth.

From the sounds of it, these people were, indeed...well, not from where she was from, at least. Even with her Gift, the concept of others coming from another world was still quite foreign to her, difficult to fully wrap her mind about. Deciding not to focus on that for the time being, Dawn began to search for her own duffel bag, quickly finding it (somehow, the slip of paper reading her name had remained intact through the storm) some few feet away from where she had been lying. After checking the contents to see if they had been affected by the apparent storm- which they hadn’t, miracle of miracles- Dawn slung the bag over her shoulder, deciding to look through it in detail once she had a more in-depth understanding of what had happened, instead of a brief summary plucked from the heads of others.

Hopefully, she would get a moment to change into dry clothes soon- while the sun was doing well to warm some parts of her, it couldn’t remove all the water at once. Clenching her teeth to keep them from chattering, Dawn hesitate where she was for a moment before starting her own walk towards the gate. While it would probably be in her best interests to try and get to know the people she was trapped with soon, she thought it better to leave the arena first before attempting to start any conversation with the others. If things went well, there wouldn’t be any death traps lying right outside the boundaries of the arena, and she would have a decent chance to speak with the others while looking for the “goal”, so to speak. With that idea planted in her head, she pressed forth, maneuvering around the occasional puddle and attempting to keep a low profile for the moment. After all, with how things stood, conflict wasn’t exactly the best thing to encounter.

Needless to say, Dawn had not yet noticed the variety of Erubescians littered about, nor a certain winged Gifted.

“No, you’re right. I don’t know what family is like. Not blood family, at any rate, especially at a parental level,” the boy responded bitterly, “What, you think we fed her lies, are you serious? Turned her into a soldier? What the hell are you talking about? We didn’t ask anything of her outside of, ‘Are you hungry?’, ‘Would you like something to eat?’ or ‘did you sleep alright?’ Yeah, we’re real awful, complete monsters taking such good care of her like that and making sure she’s happy. She’s alive. That was the point I was making about my little brother, nothing more. I would much rather my brother be alive and I never see him than I would to know that he’s dead because I kept him around.”

A pause to gather his thoughts. “And she sure as hell isn’t sick as far as I can tell. Open your eyes. She was never sick. Erubesco’s idea of science is sick. I remember being taken hostage by them. I can still feel everything they did to me, trying to figure out my powers, as they claimed it was. Right down to boiling and melting my insides. Yeah, real informative, killing me over and over to see what makes my powers tick. Ever had your insides radiated over and over again? Because that’s only one of many things they did to me. I can only imagine what they were planning on doing to the girl, or what they already have. But gee, what do I know? How dare I help a young child for fear that she might be getting hurt? I must be a real awful terrorist.” The sarcasm was getting pretty heavy on his part. Drake took a breath. A shaky one, at that. His drenched clothes and the cold wind were starting to get to him.

“I get it,” he said after a moment, trying to take a calmer approach, “You miss Hel. I’m sure she misses you, too. Who said you’ll never see her again? Our door is open and as long as you don’t come with ill intent, I know I would have no qualms with you seeing your daughter. Enemy or not, I would never dream of taking that opportunity away.”

Drake seemed a bit distracted suddenly. A familiar aura had appeared, he noticed, one he couldn’t remember being there before. He looked over to the gate, a hint of surprise in his eyes.

Dawn?

She seemed distracted. He figured he should finish this up first before seeing if she was alright. Or if it was even the same Dawn. There seemed to be a lot of different people here from different dimensions, after all.

Adira took a small step forwards. For the most part it seemed that everyone had managed to reach an uncomfortable truce - this would have to be enough. "I hate to interrupt," she said evenly, addressing all those around her, "But it looks like the only way we are all going to get back to our own worlds-" her eyes flicked towards the noticeably small Rasteva who had just dropped her polearm, "-and back to our normal strength, is to go along with Rend's game."

"He said something about going on an adventure or whatever but, though he hasn't specified what this mission will actually pertain to, the first step would still probably be exiting the arena." Adira's eyes turned upwards. The light had been slowly but steadily moving across the sky whilst they'd been standing in the arena. "If we remain here too much longer, it'll begin to get dark. And, seeing as everything that makes up this world seems to be based on Rend's whims, there's no telling what creatures may travel under the cover of night."

"If we can get out of here before night falls, I can find a place for us to set up camp and see if I can trap anything to eat. If we're fortunate, Rend will tell us what exactly we have to do before he'll allow us to return." She pushed a hand through her hair, meeting the eyes of everyone in the little social-circle. "I also... apologize... for my rudeness earlier," there was a small strain in her voice, making it obvious that she rarely was one to apologize, though she didn't look away from their eyes. "I have no excuses as we are all on edge about this whole situation. However, I am as keen to return to my world as I'm sure you all are. So it may be in all of our best interests to hold a truce, at least until escape is a possibility." Fell nudged her hand and Adira blinked. "Oh, yes, and I am Adira. This is my Fanghur companion, Fell."

Drake’s eyes narrowed at Kora’s last comment, having hit a certain nerve. He was half tempted to go off on her. Like she had reason to talk about who the fabricated illusionist was here. However, this option was quickly cancelled out as a certain radiated one came up behind him and embraced him in what may have seemed like a harmless hug to those around him.

Speak of the devil.

The boy stiffened immediately. He recognized that aura anywhere, the only energy belonging to a guy who had mercilessly turned his insides to mush over and over again. And now this man was
hugging him. Like it had never happened.

Heart racing, the boy quickly swept down and under the other’s embrace, slipping out and staggering away from him.

“Ha. You know, I gotta, go, uh
Over there, so, uh... How about you two catch up. Yeah?” he replied, quickly taking flight and flying away from them. He made a mental note to avoid Skip as much as he possibly could.

Now was a good time to investigate the Dawn figure he had seen earlier.

Landing a few feet away from her, silent as always, the boy slowly approached. Hesitant, he reached out a hand to touch her shoulder, only to stop and return his hand. Drake didn’t want to startle her, after all. “...Dawn?” He sounded uncertain, but also hopeful. If it was really her, maybe he wouldn’t feel so alone here after all.

Or so targeted.

Adira Hasidare

"Fell did not receive a bag as everyone else did, and the food that is in mine is not suitable for him to eat long term. So even if you all have food that is fit enough for you I still need to go hunting." Adira answered simply, then made a general gesture towards all of them. "Take a good look around you. As far as I can tell, Rend didn't just make up all of this stuff on his own - he borrowed it from somewhere. Similarly to how he 'borrowed' us from our own worlds - and a considerable number of us your world world in particular, if I'm not mistaken." Her eyes wandered between Kora, Drake and the others that Fell had detected similar scents on (though Adira herself did not yet know their names).

"As for the design of this 'game', it's like a bunch of pieces from different puzzles that a child might've connected together. As far as I can tell regarding the rules and reasoning behind it all..." she offered a lame shrug, "I honestly have no idea. But so far he's make it clear we're to work together and complete a series of tasks which he will assign us. He has even opened the gate and removed it's guardians - which strikes me as a pretty clear indicator that it's his desire is for us to leave the arena."

Adira then looked up towards the sky, shielding her eyes against the slowly descending orb of light. "I don't know how long the day or night last in this place, nor do I know exactly how long we've been here thus far, but time seems to be moving along nonetheless." Adira looked back to the group, making sure to meet Kora's eyes, though her voice was level and lacking hostility as she continued on, "Which brings me to reiterate my previous point: it is unwise to be running around aimlessly in the dark, especially when you're in an unknown and potentially hostile environment. Therefore I am inclined to find somewhere to set up camp before the last of the light disappears."

Fell Vrangr

Meanwhile, Fell had taken an interest in this new kid who'd just jumped onto Drake's back and began talking fast enough to stun one of the faire folk. Where are we? Who are all of you people? Can I pet your dragon? Or like, ride it? I’m Skip the Third. Are we dead? Which afterlife is this? I kinda wanted to meet Cerberus ‘cause I’ve always wanted a dog that didn’t die and that’d be like having three dogs." Now Fell was a touch indignation that this new figure had just referred to him as a dragon, as he was most certainly not, but Fell was also much more understanding than Adira usually was about the misunderstanding. What truly perplexed him was not the hyperactivity this one displayed, but instead the strange scent that emanated from him. Though Fell had encountered many unfamiliar scents in his lifetime, this one was completely foreign to him. Like if dragonfire had engulfed an alchemist hovel. When Drake flew off (rather quickly, he noticed) Fell slowly moved closer to the yellow-eyed being, sniffing his leg in puzzlement.

Azai had been enjoying a night's rest in his web just moments before and now he was falling... and falling... and falling. He wasn't a fly! He didn't have wings! How the hell did that ominous voice think that it was a great idea to have him spiraling down in the darkness like this? He had tried to use his webs to cling to something but this inky blackness had no ledge, branch, or ceiling. It was just emptiness. He did have a strange bag that appeared beside him but that wasn't helping him right now. He almost wished he was back in the mansion he despised. At least things there made sense! Why was it that he was the one that always got snatched away from his home and brought somewhere else? This was the second time, damn it! And this time, he hadn't even done anything to warrant his capture!

Suddenly, the shadow seemed to break open and spit the spider out and he continued to drop. The ground and people were fast approaching. "Ah!" he cried out a bit undignified as he landed on one of the creatures below. Both he and the stranger hit the ground hard though Azai had to admit, he was lucky this guy cushioned his fall. He winced and started to try and get to his feet but the damn bag dropped on his back then and he winced as he hit the man beneath him again. He groaned and shook his head, his dark strands falling against his pale skin. He looked up, his deep amethyst gaze catching a glimpse of the dog in front of him. He had never seen a creature like him before. His eyes widened as he got on his hands and knees, careful to actually use the ground as leverage instead of the man. He pulled himself off the stranger and dusted himself off, his gaze never leaving the strange four-legged beasty. He wondered how the creature's innards tasted like.

The black widow then realized there were others in the strange place he found himself. He tensed and crouched low. He gave a hiss and bared his fangs. He really didn't like meeting strangers as of late. The voice said he was in a different world, but was it really a different world or was the master of the house toying with him? Punishing him for biting that patron? He wasn't supposed to bite or harm the others after all but it really wasn't his fault the man kept poking his face. The guy was asking to be bitten. He didn't recognize anyone or anything here. And being out in the open like this put him at a disadvantage. His only true weapons in this situation were his fangs and claws but he couldn't take on all of these strangers. Some of them looked like their skin wouldn't be easily penetrated.

If it wasn’t for her own common sense (and a well-placed pinch), Dawn would have been long convinced that the stress had finally gotten to her. That she was having some surreal fever dream, where dragons and suits of armor and cyborgs walked about as if they weren’t typically products of fantasy. There was another part of her that mused the possibility of them being some odd variety of Gifted, which, admittedly, made more sense. It still didn’t change the fact that voices were apparently coming out of nowhere, or that all of the surrounding group seemed more fit to be in a novel than actual flesh and blood- or, in some cases, metal and oil.

Dawn had found herself pausing instead of pursuing the exit, given the fact that only a few seemed to be trying to leave at the moment. The girl had sat herself in one of the warmer patches, focusing on pawing through her bag and getting tabs on the supplies she had overlooked before. As expected, the duffel contained the basics of survival that many others held- although in contrast to the same majority, hers held no weapons at all. Of course, there was the basics of tools and some knives, although it was clear that all were used more for survival than not. There were clothes, rations, iodine drops and matches, but little else.

However, she was hardly bothered by the lack of supplies inside. After all, the raven didn’t have a reputation for her skills with a knife or gun or anything of the sort, meaning that any such items would have been pointless. Rising from the tile, Dawn allowed the bag to hang over her shoulder in the same fashion as the others, listening with interest as one girl who looked to be about her age, and one of the more...brow-raising profiles, began to reason that they should leave. That the world outside would be completely safe. Considering that she still lacked quite a bit of knowledge on what was happening, she merely contented herself with listening to the argument, attempting to get her thoughts better settled on the events of their apparent capture.

That was, until a familiar voice caught her attention. A familiar presence, which she knew did not belong- shouldn’t even exist for that matter. While Dawn didn’t have the best education in regards to biology, she was positive that after some time after being dead and covered in a few feet of soil, corpses didn’t have brain waves. Or working vocal cords.

Dawn turned.

She had been holding some amount of expectation that when she did, there would be nobody there, really. Even with the oddity that this world was shaping out to be, she was skeptical in regards to it bringing people back from the dead. However, as she completed her rotation, she found no one else than a certain Coleman.

“Drake..?” The word was quiet, but the shock was prominent in her tone nonetheless. It was like seeing a ghost- the other stood as if she hadn’t seen him buried only a short time ago. Dawn did little more than stare for a few moments, unable to comprehend the sight, before breaking herself out of her trance at the sight of familiar green outfits. Erubescian military garb. While she would have been surprised, seeing a dead friend suddenly back among the living had left her a bit numb to shock at the moment.

Dawn said nothing more for another few moments. Silent, processing this information, before suddenly pulling on a smile- somewhat strained, but a smile nonetheless- and bringing her attentions to the man who had fallen from the sky- seemingly out of nowhere.

This was seeming more and more like a trippy fever dream again, or like some Gifted had decided to drag her into some bizarre...thing. She would fully decide which one at a later time.

Khojin gazed up at the sky for a moment, considering. If she were alone, then sure, she'd go out no problem, probably get 20 malms by the end of the night. But with a group of... how many people were there? Here, Adira, Rasteva, the four or five from the same world, Stride, Lightning Hei-Senn, armor dude 2, white hair boy, girl with worse black clothing than her, Shao in the dress, a dog, and the new guy who apparently fell on... Who was that? Regardless, their number was easily around a dozen, far more than she felt comfortable travelling with.

She clicked her tongue and dropped her arms, swinging them a bit at her sides. "Fine. But I still think we should split into smaller groups. If Rend has somethin' he wants us to do, I'm sure he can organize it in stages. Besides, three of the others already bolted, so..." She flicked her finger to Stride, Rasteva, and Adira. "I call these three. If we do go with that idea."

She picked her bag back up and slung it over her shoulder. No use leaving it in the dust. She lifted her leg to begin walking before another thought struck her.

"Hey," she began, resettling her foot. "If we are s'pose to work with each other, shouldn't we know what everyone brings to the team?"

Choosing to ignore the others, the winged boy focused on Dawn for the time being.

The boy’s eyes lit up at the girl’s recognition. Thank god, someone he could rely on around here. Of all the Wanderers who could have been pulled here, Drake was admittedly glad it was Dawn. She was like a sister to him. The two of them had started the resistance group, after all, and had known each other longer than most of the others.

Well, except Allen, but honestly, who cared about that guy? He could never take anything seriously.

“Dawn, thank god. I was starting to think I was alone here, and with all the Erubescan troups over there-” he trailed off, noticing how distracted the girl seemed. And how
pale. Sickly. More-so, he couldn’t help but notice her aura. It, too, portrayed that she was, in fact, not handling things well.

“Hey
Are you alright? You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” he commented. Drake had no idea the kind of irony that came with that statement. Clueless to the fact that he had been pulled from his timeline only a few days before his life would come to a final end. He had no idea he would be buried by the very family he had spent his life protecting.

The boy decided he should probably explain what he knew so far. “It seems we’ve been pulled from our world and thrown into some alternate dimension with a bunch of other
things. People. I haven’t really figured out what to call most of them yet. But uh, yeah. If it wasn’t for some of the things I’ve seen so far, I’d still be having a hard time believing it myself.”

He was rambling and opted to revert back to his previous topic. “Seriously though, what’s bothering you?” Sometimes he wished he could read minds, too.

He didn’t know.

Even without looking within his mind, his obliviousness towards...well, what had happened was obvious enough. Drake was just as animated as before, as alive as before, just as Dawn had remembered. He brought up the presence of the Erubesco troops, but it was the thing that he had added after that truly caught her attention- the idea of an alternate world. Of them having been taken as the voice had said, and thrown into a place where the beings they had seen were completely natural. It didn’t take long for the girl to put the pieces together, to work out the implications of what had been told to her, and what she had seen with her own eyes.

If they really were in an alternate world, then

Dawn had already seen proof that others had come from her world already. The woman, Kora, and another from the attack, the radioactive man whose name had slipped her mind, and now Drake. Given the fact that they were currently surrounded by walking suits of armor and actual dragons, this...being having the ability to take some from alternate timelines- even alternate dimensions, perhaps- didn’t seem too far-fetched.

Or perhaps the fever dream theory was still plausible.

Either way, there would be no point in making any dry comments of actually seeing ghosts, or even bringing up the subject of what had happened in her own time. Dawn only turned to look at her company once more, put up a smile that was- hopefully- more genuine in appearance than the first, and did her best to steady her emotions for the time being. Brooding over all of...this would only bring more problems than they already had, after all.

“I’m fine,” she lied, a soft, breathy laugh escaping her. “I’m just...a bit surprised at all this, really. Nothing too bad, really- we just need to focus on what ‘Rend’ wants from us, right?” Before Drake had a chance to answer, however, Dawn’s attention was once again drawn away. Not by the brewing tensions, or even the fact that the person who had fallen was now eying a...dog? as if it were a piece of meat.

No; while the eerie nature of how the man was observing the canine was something to be concerned about, Dawn was more focused on the girl currently drowning in a puddle. Eyes widened, she quickly muttered a “hold on” before practically sprinting over to the person. With as much gentleness as she could muster for the situation, she dragged the girl out of the water and onto a relatively dry section of tile, and began to check to see if her airways were blocked. While Dawn didn’t have the same medical experience that others could boast, she at least knew well enough to perform the basics- namely, how to keep someone from choking to death if necessary.

While all this was going on a, a brown haired man entered the arena, strode to the center, looked up at the sky, cupped his hands around his mouth and yelled. "HEY REND! MIND TELLING ME WHAT THE HELL YOU DID TO MY POWERS?! THEY AREN'T WORKING RIGHT AND I DON'T HAVE TO PATIENCE TO FIGURE THIS SHIT OUT!"

He then lowered his hands and head, brushed his hands off on the t-shirt he was wearing, and spun around 360 degrees, waving. "Hello everyone!" he called out. "Sorry about that. Rend decided my powers made stuff too easy so I don't have them anymore!" he announced, looked around once more, and trotted to the group arguing about location. "Missed the first part of the argument, so explain to me why making camp out in a desert -and yes, I checked- is better than in a place with walls and a roof defense? But loudly okay? You're all really unobservant, because a guy fell from the sky over there, and with the yelling going on, you'd think it would draw heads. Aaaaand there's kinda a girl drowning over there, I'm going to go help out, so yell your explanation." he then moved over to the girl in the mask, where another was already lifting her out of the water and onto a drier piece of land.

"Does she have water in her lungs?" he asked with concern. "Or do you want to lie her down?" He asked Dawn, his powers clearly not working right, or future sight would have already given him the answer, instead of him waiting for the answer like a normal person.

Drake watched as Dawn’s aura evened out for the most part. There were still subtle hints of whatever had been bothering her before, but it was nothing he felt was necessary to pry about.
Dawn had always been good about staying strong during bad times. The boy always found it admirable and respectable.

“If you say so.”

He then watched as she darted off to go help someone. Someone who appeared to be
drowning, from the looks of it. Eesh. He hoped the girl was alright. That had to be quite an awful way to awaken. He moved to join Dawn in checking up on the latter, keeping a few feet from the two so as not to get in the way. After all, he was still working on drying himself off. The boy was already plenty weakened from that. As he looked over the girl though, he couldn’t help but notice something familiar about her aura. Like he almost recognized it, though not fully.

Drake couldn’t quite place what was so familiar about it, so he tried not to think about the strange feeling for now. Instead, he focused on the girl’s well-being. “Is she breathing?”

The boy moved to rifle through his bag. Perhaps the all wonderful being of power had provided them all with towels.

That would sure be helpful, at the very least.

Another voice had made themselves known at this point, and Drake found himself looking up in surprise. “Cain?” It was the prophet. The boy hadn’t seen Cain since
Well, since one of the earlier assaults on the Wanderers. Since he’d been kidnapped by Erubesco. “But
 I thought you were
” A pause as he tried to recall, but that day had been such a blur. The kidnap, the trauma, his return
He hadn’t been the same after that. “I thought you were dead,” the boy finished, looking at Cain now as if he were looking at a miracle.

Azai's narrowed eyes scanned the rather numerous members of this arena at a bit of a loss. Most had ignored his appearance which suited him just fine in this situation. At this point, being ignored or missed was a good thing. That meant he could find his way out of this situation as quickly as possible without being attacked or something. Then he could sit in a corner and watch what was happening and try and piece together the events. Right now, absolutely nothing was making sense. There was a tin can speaking about powers and talking in the third person maybe? She was odd. There were a wide range of humans and non-human looking things around and some had wings to. He couldn't tell who was friend and who was foe in this situation. He couldn't be back at the manor that was for sure. Kenner would not approve of this and though the man had threatened to put him in the arena if he didn't shape up, this wasn't the arena he spoke of.

The spider began to calm and shift out of his defensive position. Without everyone distracted he could slip away. Unfortunately a couple did spot him and spoke to him. The one he fell on even extended a hand towards him. He instantly crouched and hissed, baring his fangs again in panicked defense. He glanced to the side when he heard a commotion and saw a couple of people saving a stranger from drowning but quickly put that out of mind. That didn't concern him. He turned his gaze back to creature that extended a hand towards him and sniffed the air. Huh. Strange. He smelled male. Why did he wear female attire? It did look good on him but he was sure a male's outfit or perhaps something more revealing would suit him just as well. Azai's own clothing was airy and exposed to show off the elegant markings on his body. Kenner had refused to allow him the gems that normally adorned his body to accent them, but whatever.

He glanced at the two that had spoken to him. One had asked about his name and baggage? Was he talking about that thing that had fallen on him? Why did he want his baggage? He didn't know what was in it, but still. He said he didn't want to harm him but he did call up that... thing. Whatever it was. It was shadowed but it didn't look very friendly. Its motions confused the shit out of him though. What did he want? Verge... that was an interesting name to. He wasn't sure how he wanted to respond.

"Who are you people?" he asked the strangers then. "What is happening? Desert outside?" He glanced around at everyone again and backed away a bit to keep people in his line of sight. He didn't trust any of these people. That voice had said they were from different worlds. That meant he wouldn't know anything about these creatures. But if there was a desert outside, he preferred being in here. there were darker corners that he could tuck himself away in. It was safer than the open. He didn't care if these people died. If they died, more food for him. He didn't exactly want to go back to his world either. This place meant he was free from slavery. He glanced down at the black ribbon on his arm marking him as a black-tier slave. He grinned. He didn't need that anymore. He quickly ripped it off and let it fall to the floor.

Perhaps he wouldn't be attacked. No one here seemed to be attacking each other. He straightened himself slowly. He could easily spring and run away if he needed to. "Madison was it? Interesting...And Verge..." he mused. "You may call me Azai. Why are you wearing female clothing, Madison?" He glanced at Verge again. "And what is that shadow thing? Is that part of you?"

Even with Stride’s face still completely hidden, it didn’t exactly take rocket science to tell she wasn’t pleased at Khojin’s choice in team-building. Another snort had broken free from the hybrid- this one more of indignation than anything- and, uncrossing her arms, took a step forward before voicing her opinion on the matter.

“Look, Kho-gin, you’re kinda fucked up, but you’re still pretty cool. But she,” a jerk of a thumb in the direction of Adira, “actin’ like she’s, uh, havin’ her ‘time ‘a the month’, and Alphonse over there reminds me too much of a patronizing dick I work with. Gotta pass on that, sorry.” As the dragon rider of the two went on to speak of her various list of abilities, Stride couldn’t help but wish in the back of her head that the girl was a guy; if she had been, Stride could have whipped out several “overcompensation” jokes by now.

Nevertheless, she didn’t get to lament the wasted opportunities for long, as another, more interesting event, had suddenly sprouted up- some random asshole suddenly falling from the sky, and crashing right into Madison. At once, her hand planted itself upon the butt of her gun, but upon seeing her coworker get up not much worse for wear- even going so far as to try and help the guy up- she relaxed, only to be taken aback yet again by another person walking into the arena and starting to yell his head off.

“Jesus H. Christ,” she muttered, although the fighter was very much pleased at the man’s affirmation that not much was really out there. Depending on how far the apparent desert went, it would only make sense for them to stick around a while longer to figure things out. His comment on someone drowning, however, brought more surprise from Stride, and she began to look around in search of this someone- only to spot some girl getting dragged out of a puddle by the same guy, as well as another, smaller girl.

Looks like the problem had been taken care of, then.

At Rasteva’s impromptu concert session, Stride bit back yet another curse and turned to look over at the being, squinting as it began to rant about how it wanted them all to pay attention. At first, she was tempted to go back to talking to Kora or someone else (after all, it seemed that all Rasteva wanted was to say that they were now totally cool with changing their mind), but at the mention of “sparring”, she visibly perked up. Of course, while it was hard to say what the others had in store combat-wise, Stride had a personality fit for her occupation, and her blood quickly began to pound at the chance of getting a good brawl.

“Hell yeah, I wanna see some action ‘round here! We goin’ hand-to-hand, or what?” Grinning broadly, the half-breed cracked her knuckles and glanced around to look for any volunteers. True, she was no pro wrestler, but she had some amount of pride after facing off against some of the more brawnier members of the supernatural world.

Skip III took Drake's failure to respond to his verbal jabs with pursed lips but unusual patience. There was so much going on to occupy his attention that he figured his unwilling foil could wait.

He listened to the exchanges, the tantrums, catching himself up on the situation, valiantly resisting the urge to run and pet Dog or Fell. Or Eze. Or anyone else with scales, feathers, fur, or tails. His patience held, for now.

Rasteva was saying something about showcasing skills.

First order of procedure when he was to be spending extended amounts of time with a new team... Skip checked his pocket. Still there. Probably not enough for everyone, but, he fished out the small plastic container and popped it open as he spoke.

"All right, I can spar," he volunteered, smiling at Stride broadly. He held up one of the small pills from the container and danced over to the masked woman to give her the gift. "I'll try not to produce any gamma rads, because ya know, nonlethal, but uh-- You should probably still have one of these. Actually--" He looked around, pouring the lot into his hand and beaming like nothing was at all alarming, "You should probably all have one." He passed one to Madison and the rest of the huddle by the puddle, smilingly giving Cain an extra for when their drowning victim recovered. To the man who had fallen from the sky, "Hi, I'm Skip the Third, you missed it. Welcome to not-the -afterlife. This'll keep you from getting thyroid cancer." One for Dawn. One for Amos. Not one for Drake. Drake came back to life. One for Makorai, with an apologetic edge to his smile because Skip knew Makorai was among the majority of Erubescans who avoided him like the apocalyptic plague he was. "Um no guarantees about other kinds of cancer. Except there's uh--not enough, but..." He counted the remaining iodide blockers. Three remaining. Everyone in the arena except Drake, Eze and Rasteva had now been handed a pill, and then there were the three scouts when they returned...

Skip looked at Rasteva. "Do you need one, Legion?" he asked, unsure about the suit of armor's mortality status.

He handed one of the remaining three to Ezenvare.
...And now he was so close. Whether or not it was offensive did not even cross his mind. He couldn't resist giving the reptilian man's scaley neck a pet.

Kora, assuming her help was not immediately required, watched the bossy girl and her dragon leave with the one with the face-gap. Ostensibly for scouting, but she did not entirely trust them to return.

There were other options, but that would involve having to negotiate with the filthy terrorist about flying up and getting an aerial view and she was not sure she was really a good person to do so... even if they could trust what he'd got to relay.

She idly listened in some capacity to what Rasteva had to say. She was not exactly feeling terribly amicable considering that thing had just tried to kill her not a few minutes previous, but its suggestion seemed solid enough. Better people knew how much they'd been nerfed now than end up getting screwed later on.

Though she didn't think she really wanted to try her own to their limits.
Kora didn't really feel dramatically different. Indeed on the yard stick of magic and immortality, her abilities were pretty much one trick ponies. But they were ponies that did the one trick pretty effectively, and it was a trick that once started, wasn't really something you could stop. Powering up berserkergang wasn't like a switch on and off. Once you invoked it things tended to get pretty intense.

Ripping an enemy combatant in half at the waist with your bare hands was very useful in a battle situation, but was frowned upon in a friendly scenario.
"I'd be happy to do it, y'know, assuming this homicidal tin man doesn't try and chop me in half again, but no powers here. Don't want things to go sour."

Just then, she received one of the iodide pills, and rested it in her palm for a moment, watching the young man rushing to hand them out..and he appeared to be coming up a bit short. Her expression grew a little more sober for a moment.

"Hey, uh, Skips, you might as well save mine for somebody else." she stated, rather awkwardly holding it back out to the radioactive gifted.
"Cuz uh....y'know..."

Mostly because thyroid cancer had a five year survival rate of about 90% and Kora had a five year survival rate of about 0%.

----

The oddly dressed figure, now pulled out of the puddle, pushed herself onto her front, curling her knees underneath her and coughing up some water fro her lungs onto the stone floor.

From there, she went quiet for a moment, resting her forehead against the floor, eyes shut. Silent. Water seeping out of the ragged layers of clothing.

Then, the young woman spoke, quite clearly...if rather cryptically.

"There are wolves in the sand. Blood sinks and bones rise. A step you take can't be taken back. Even if you cover your tracks the sand will always know that you walked there."

At first, Dawn didn’t seem to react to the sudden presence of someone who, not only was another member of her world, but a former member of her group- she merely frowned at first, brow furrowed in concentration as she continued to overlook the state of the woman drawn from the puddle, but as her appraisal apparently came to a close, she spoke.

“I think she might have some left in her...” Her voice was that of someone lost in thought, eyes still focused on the rise and fall of the stranger’s breathing for the time being, fingers pressed against her pulse. Her heartbeat was steady, at least, but there was a certain irregularity to her breathing that had caught Dawn’s attention. The mental manipulator had just reached out to begin an attempt at chest compressions when the woman had suddenly moved by her own strength, and began to cough up whatever fluid had been left in her lungs- a good sign, Dawn was sure. However, shortly after she had apparently recovered, the stranger began to speak what was, to the other, nonsense- something of wolves and steps and blood and bones. Perplexed, Dawn took a moment to puzzle out what the woman had said, before giving up and instead resuming attempts to assist her.

“Are you alright? You seemed like you were in there for a while.” She reached a hand once more, hesitated for a moment, fingers hovering above the woman, before placing a light touch onto her back. As she did so, Dawn became aware of two new presences nearby- two Erubescians- but reacted with little more than the same distracted attitude she had regarded Cain with. Her fingers wrapped about the pill given to her with a soft “thanks”, and tucked it away in her pocket for the time being- perhaps, later, she would put more thought into what had been handed to her and by who, but not now.

It didn’t take much logic to predict that Dawn’s response towards Kora would continue to follow the vein, and, indeed, her attention seemed to be too wrapped up at the moment to notice just who, exactly, was offering them help. She merely nodded gratefully, taking into account the state of the stranger’s clothes- completely sopping wet. While it was a bit presumptuous to assume that such a figure would be uncomfortable in such an outfit, it was still worth at least seeing whether she would need the warmth- or so Dawn thought.

It was obvious enough that once she wasn’t preoccupied with making sure that nobody was at risk of getting hypothermia or the like, the girl would be in for quite the surprise.

Cain, seeing that the girl was fine enough for now, called back instead to Madison. "Does anyone recognize this landscape, then? Because it looks sorted like the ashland, but less ash and destroyed buildings!" He was then addressed by Drake, and he looked evenly at the younger boy. "Yeah, so did she." he said, indicating Dawn, making it sound like he was speaking of the mind manipulator's belief that he himself had died, instead of the fact that he had long ago predicted Drake's fall in battle but had been gone from the group before he could do anything to change that future. "I wonder why, it's not like you left me alone in unknown condition in an irradiated mansion with not even a note to say "We're heading south west to Helton" or a pack of supplies to get me through the separation." there was no bitterness in his voice, though, only an odd pensive quality. "Say, can you still do your revival thingy? Coming back form the dead and all? Or did you already lose that?" rather blunt, but honestly, the boy would learn soon enough that his immortality was temporary.
In the meantime, the suit of armour declared a tournament, and Cain stood up. "My abilities are stabbing people, luring people into dark alleys to stab, seducing women into dark alleys to stab, haven't used that one in a good many years, interpreting prophecies, indestructible shields, seeing the future and no promises on those last two, because Rend decided that it's no fun if I can predict the plot. I won't be participating, thanks." he then settled back down as Hel began to speak, and nodded along, understanding perfectly. "But it is a rare thief that shares jam made of stolen fruit, much rather would he hoard it all for himself." he replied. "Wolves hate fruit anyway, and sand might remember, but if drowned it can't speak." he patted her on the back. "My name is Cain, miss. What's yours? One of you get her bag." he then instructed the two gifted he had travelled with once upon a time.

As Skip trotted around, giving out pills, Drake half expected him to stop and give him one as well. Perhaps he felt Skip had some moral sense. Then again, perhaps he was wrong. Skip had gone right over him, causing the boy’s eyes to narrow in irritation. Mild irritation, anyway. He didn’t exactly trust the pills, and would have declined regardless, but it was the lack of consideration behind it that peeved the boy. Skip had only passed him over because Drake could come back if he died - he knew.

Well, whatever. The pills were Erubesco science, most likely, and certainly not something he wanted tampering with his immune system anyway.

Though he still wanted to punch Skip again.

Drake glanced at Dawn out of the side of his eye, noting her lack of response to Cain. She seemed really focused on the task at hand, almost as if she were in a trance. It was certainly unusual for her. His attention moved back to Cain as he spoke, eyes softening a bit with slight guilt. “They left you there?” He couldn’t believe this even as he heard it. They never left anyone behind.

The Wanderers were a mess, that much was clear. This was why he needed to get back home, to try and fix things. He felt somewhat responsible, considering the choices that were made occurred when he was not around. If he could just get back and be a good influence on the group, maybe they would revert back to how things were supposed to be. They could go get Cain, bring him back home. That was assuming the winged boy would remember anything that happened in the Rend upon return.

“Lose my revival power? What are you talking about?” He asked, now looking a little troubled, “That can’t happen. It’s linked to my little brother’s spirit, isn’t it?” But even as he said this, it was clear in his expression that he didn’t fully believe his own words. Cain’s prophecies were always right.

Feeling some obligation to the prophet, the boy followed his request and looked around for the girl’s bag. It lay by itself a couple feet away, the only bag untouched thus far. Drake went to retrieve it, looking at the name with some curiosity. Helena
Strange. He didn’t put much thought into it though. Carrying it back over by it’s strap, he set it on the ground by her, opting not to rifle through it.

He had no need to mess around with someone’s personal stuff, after all.

“I believe this is yours.”
