Introduction

The Road to Paradise: A Wolf’s Rain Based RPG

Image

When are we born? When do we die? Why are we born? Why do we die? The world has been destroyed and we've fallen countless times, always resurrecting from the ashes as Paradise. It has happened before, and it will happen again, an endless cycle of life and death. The world is a Paradise that was opened by someone, but this era too is almost at an end. We have acquired the means to exceed our natural span of life, never suspecting that the world itself was finalized in its existence. This knowledge has left me in despair, my fate has fallen and scattered like the petals of a dying flower, like the blast from a sandstorm it has been worn down and weathered away. As if to be purified, the world will be encased in ice so that it can return to the beginning once more. Paradise is a world that is opened by someone... – The Spirit Owl

The Run Down

This game is based on the anime Wolf’s Rain; however, it will be driven differently. You do not have to have seen Wolf’s Rain in order to be in this game. What you read from this introduction will be all you need to know about this game. I will go ahead and state that Cheza, the flower maiden, will not exist. Instead, there will be a lunar flower encased in a glass vial, which is the last of the plant species—the flowers that once grew in paradise. I will only be accepting up to five players in this game. Players who are interested are welcome to post a profile. I will only be accepting the profiles from players who I feel truly worked on them so do not feel discouraged if you see more than five applications. My say is final on who gets in this game. This game is going to be a team effort to run, and it will need the imaginations of everyone. The enemies and bosses are GM-run. With all this said, I thank you for reading this portion of the game.

The game is broken into chapters. Each chapter has a plot and goal, and once it is reached, it will close. This gives everyone a mission. The information below will be for Chapter One. Once chapter one has come to an end, a summary will be written summarizing its events, and we’ll move onto Chapter Two. As of now, I am undecided if I will accept more players later. There is always a possibility, so we’ll see.

For Chapter One, the game begins in Freeze City. Players can post at their leisure, have their characters interact with others, but I discourage your character causing too much trouble. What I mean by trouble is don’t have the whole, human army chasing you. Having a few police officers chase you, and then losing them or what not is fine. I will be sure to let you know if I feel your post needs to be edited due to a possible plot complication.

In conclusion, thank you for reading this portion of the game. Please continue reading below.

The Setting

Chapter One: The setting takes place in Freeze City, a dome in the north in the middle of a winter wasteland. The dome protects the humans from the cold, and although it’s still freezing, the temperature is at a bearable level for survival. The humans of Freeze City are very poor and endure hardships trying to survive every day. The technology-level of this city is modern.

The Dancing Jackal

Once an abandoned, run-down bar, it still is pretty run down, but its inhabitants have managed to spruce it up and make it homely. The bar’s residents are wolves posing as humans, having been drawn to the city by a mysterious smell coming from the government facility. They pose as employees in the day, making a small profit that they split amongst themselves. At night, they are thieves, robbing the supply trains that ship food to the city.

Roles

Bartender (1) Taken
Waitress (1)
Bouncer (1)

Other roles: Wolfish Visitors of Freeze City (3)

I will only be allowing three male characters and three female characters. Technically, just two male characters since I will be present in this game as the third male. As I mentioned in the above statement, do not feel discouraged if you see more than five applications. I will be selecting the applications that I feel are passable in this game.

Chapter One Entities

Wolves: The wolves in this game are not werewolves. They are the four-legged canis lupus, but possess special abilities. They can fool humans by magically setting before their eyes a human illusion of themselves. This allows for the wolves to walk around freely, but in this form, they cast a wolf’s shadow. Wolves in wolf-form and human-form can leap incredible heights, run extremely fast, have powerful jaws than can bend iron, and sharp claws that allow them to scale walls, vertical inclines, and even slash enemies. If wolves are wounded, they heal quickest during a full moon, but the light of the moon is enough to soothe their wounds. Each wolf will have one unique characteristic specific to them alone. As the GM, I will be policing what you have written as their characteristic. Nothing like fire, ice or any element or extreme ability that would make this game seem like X-men. (This is the only playable entity)

Humans: Humans don’t believe that wolves still exist since the last one seen alive was 200 years ago. If any Human sees a wolf, they will think it is a big, stray dog. Some humans don’t mind wolves, while others won’t hesitate to call the dog catchers.

Hunters: There still exist wolf hunters who believe that wolves are alive and have adapted to live among the humans, hiding in human flesh. Hunters track dogs best using their trusty hounds that cannot only sense a wolf, but see through their human disguise. Hunters won’t hesitate to try to kill a wolf. Their interpretation of the Book of the Moon has made them blind and they feel the wolves to be a threat to human existence.

Dogs: Normal dogs aren’t a problem. It is the dogs of hunters that pose the biggest threat to wolves. They can be just as strong and dangerous.

Nobles: They are the remains of royalty. They are wealthy lords and ladies of the sky, living in their flying ships of luxury that soar from one human civilization to another, taking what they need, and doing as they please. They believe in the prophecy of the Book of the Moon and feel they need wolf’s blood to open the gate to Paradise.

Chapter One Objects

The Book of the Moon: a.k.a. The Lunar Tome, “From the great spirit was born the wolf and man became its messenger. When the moon turns to blood, the gate to Paradise will appear, but only the wolves shall know how to find it and be permitted entrance.” The book implies that man was born from wolves. Humans are supposedly wolves that have forgotten their true form. However, once their form is forgotten, they cannot revert to being a wolf again.

The Lunar Flower: It is the flower that the wolves smell and is currently being contained within the government facility. It is the last of the lunar flowers, and it is one of the keys to the gates of Paradise.

You can only make up one, and so be sure no one has the same ability as you.

Clarifications

Your character may have a human form, but he/she is still a wolf. Therefore, if you want your character to be able to use a weapon of some kind, it has to be listed as a "unique characteristic." The reason why is simply, wolves don't have hands. So if they're grabbing anything in human form, they're using their teeth. More than likely, your wolf will not be able to handle a firearm because the wolf can't manage to squeeze the trigger and reload.

There is no pack mentality with wolves. There is no alpha, beta, or omega. The wolves are the first beings, and the humans were born from the wolves, so they co-exist just as humans do. They are logical creatures and do what they can to survive whether as a team or alone.

The clothes on the wolf's human guise cannot be removed because they are an illusion. In actuality, the clothes may just be your wolf's fur. However, the clothes can be altered, but not by physical means. The wolf's human guise cannot be altered for it represents who the wolf would be if they forgot that they're a wolf.

Toggle Rules

Be sure to read the first page of the OOC before you start creating a character sheet.

1. Do not post OOC comments in the IC. Use the OOC when making OOC statements.
2. Use grammar and spelling to the best of your ability and try to post at least five sentences. If you are in dialogue with another character and you don’t think you can produce five sentences, then go into PMs with that person, collab, and post the conversation as one huge post.
3. The enemies are controlled by the GM. I will give you freedom to make trouble for yourself, but the enemies that move the plot along are controlled by me.
4. In the case of duels between players, both players need to use T1 or otherwise known as turn-based combat. You write your actions as an intention, giving the other player a chance to dodge or counter. The GM will be observing these in-game duels, and if he needs to intervene due to illogical movements or play, he will pass the final judgment. If you do not like this, then learn how to fight. ‘Nough said. You should be able to go into PMs and collaborate with the player you plan to duel. Maybe you guys can decide on a stalemate and make the fight look cool. There is no need to try and kill each other or hate on each other over an in-game fight. It’s just a game, so please be civil.
5. Whatever the GM says, goes. I try to be fair. I try to permit most characters, but if I say no, then it’s no. Please don’t argue with me. I’m sorry if you wanted your way, but this is my game and I try to make decisions for the good of the plot.
6. This RP may have mature themes, but there will be no love-making (sex). If pants come off, take it to PMs or where others can’t see it.
7. Do not post ahead of other players. No one wants to feel pressured when they play this game. You may have all the time in the world but others may not. If you post to someone, let him or her have a chance to respond. If you post towards more than one person, let each of them respond. If I feel that a certain player or players are going ahead of others and are not giving them a chance to reply, then I will have to place a limit on posts.
8. No god-moding, no meta-gaming, and no breaking character. The first two are self-explanatory, but just in case you don’t know what meta-gaming is. It is when you have your character know knowledge that only you, the writer, should know. Breaking character is known as breaking the fourth wall when you write a post with implication of OOC knowledge or in response to OOC statements. Another definition for it is when your own emotions filter into your character’s emotions.
9. If you play a character with an Asian name, then I expect that character to be and appear Asian. No exceptions.

No, it wasn't supposed to happen like that. His intervention wasn't supposed to make things worse, wasn't supposed to cause more pain for the domesticated animal but save him from the cruel fangs of another. Yet, the moment he rammed into the she-wolf, she did not release quickly to dodge or out of shock, but had ripped her teeth from him and tumbled backwards, not at all what he had desired. He watched the dog fall to the ground, its blood staining the once white snow with a rather mocking red.

Shit, he thought, panicked as he stared down at the dying animal. He wasn't a savior, he wasn't a healer or a doctor; what could he do to help the animal? At that rate, it was going to die and his actions would've been all for naught -- or all to blame. Leto heard shifting ahead of him as the other brown wolf rolled back to its feet. Afraid that she was going to attack again, Leto stepped over the fallen dog in a protective stance, hovering over its dying body with the goal of protecting what little life it had left.

What was he doing? She was his kin, practically his own flesh and blood. There were not many of them left, and yet he was about to attack his own to kill if need by, just for the sake of some stupid creature, some possession of a human that would shoot him down on the spot if given the chance. He brushed the absurdity of his actions aside and made his will of steel. It didn't matter. None of that mattered at that moment. All that was important was the fact that he was not going back on his previous thoughts, that he would protect the humans and their own; he would not betray his actions due to doubt.

Leto crouched, careful not to suffocate the dog, and bared his fangs at the other wolf, snarling warningly to convey his thoughts: he'd kill her, his own kind, if he had to. Instead of responding, she merely turned her head up and snorted at him through her snout, whether out of pity or disdain he didn't know and didn't care. The dog was safe from further harm, and Leto had managed to solve the problem without having to murder a kinsman, but shots fired from the human had startled him out of his optimistic thoughts.

The other wolf had turned back to a pup and urged to her to run; he hadn't even seen or sensed her presence in the midst of the adrenaline pumping through his blood. Switching his attention to the human with the gun, he stepped back from the dog.

Finally seeing the poor creature sprawled out against the crimson snow with heavy lids, he felt an overwhelming sense of sadness that could not be explained or expressed.

I'm sorry. He nudged its head softly with his snout and then stared up at the man with apologetic eyes for a second, offering his silent condolences before following the other two wolves toward escape. Even if they didn't have the same viewpoints, and even if he had attacked and threatened her, they were still kin, still blood-bound in a way only wolves could be.

Running away from the government facility fence and into residential streets.

With It didn't take a lot of encouragement from the she wolf to make the pup run. She could smell the blood as well as see it. Worry for the she wolf who had just saved her life had been the only thing Keeping Tala from bolting once the shock wore off. Now that her heroin was ready to bolt, the ball of fur was all too happy to oblige. Scarier than the dog that attacked her, and scarier than the man with the gun, was the thought that one of the first two wolves Tala had seen in a very long time sided against them. He had attacked the wolf who saved her from death, which made him one of the 'bad guys' pretty much instantly in the pup's eyes. He was one of -THEM.-

The direction Tala chose to run was random. Away from the ones that would hurt her was the only direction that really mattered at the moment. It just so happened that Tala was running in the direction of The Dancing Jackal, though they were still a ways off. The pup glanced over her shoulder and she was relived that her unhurt savior was right behind her. However, that relief turned into dread when she saw the bad wolf was still after them. "Look out!" The girl yipped to warn her adult friend, though, her heroin probably already knew they were still under attack.

Outside the government facility fence

The German shepherd released a bloody shriek as his throat was torn. Every hair on the guard’s body stood on end at the sight of his partner being killed.

“Jack!” the guard cried in sorrow.

He halted in the snow, staring at these creatures. The wolf mother and how her muzzle was soaked in the blood of his friend. He hadn’t even seen Leto’s gestures. All three of those mutts standing before him were immediately categorized under the same label: beasts—wild beasts. They didn’t belong here.

The guard’s face flushed red with anger. His pupils shrank as he raised his rifle and stared tensely through the scope. The wolves began to run and he set the bead on the gaggle. The little one entered his crosshair, then the female, and finally the male was behind her, obscuring her.

I should kill the little one…but if I kill its mother, then it’ll surely die. It won’t survive this cold. Yes, kill them both. I have to set this shot right, the guard furiously mused.

The red bead was set on the male, and the guard was gambling that the round would pierce through him and then through the female—two birds with one stone. It was a wild shot, but he was willing to try it. He had to avenge Jack. Inhaling, he held his breath and squeezed the trigger.

The crack of the rifle resonated into the frozen atmosphere as the bullet was ejected. It hissed through the air with the intention to pierce the red wolf, but to their horror it passed up the spine of the female and struck her skull with a red burst as a cloud of blood blossomed into the cold air. The female instantly crumpled to the snowy ground, the impact driving her face into the earth before she went rolling limply like a doll. If Leto didn’t dodge her, then her body could trip him and obstruct his escape.

The Dancing Jackal

You all smell worse than I do. [Farran]

The black wolf grinned, his rows of teeth shining in contrast to his fur.

“I beg to differ. No one smells worse than you do,” he laughed.

Gidon gazed up at Aury. “False alarm, it’s just a skunk.”

Feeling Ellie’s nudge, his triangular ears perked as he regarded her expression with what would have been raised brows. He then sighed and walked over to the obscured wolf in the garbage. He had just been about to introduce himself when a fourth gunshot rang out in the distance.

The black wolf raised his head as his ears swiveled forward.

What the hell is going on here? he thought.

A disturbed growl hummed from his muzzle as he then told the trash wolf, “It’s not safe. You should come inside. We’ll talk then.”

Gidon glanced up at Aury. “Let’s get inside. Last thing we need is hunters.”

The black wolf quickly trotted back towards the door of The Jackal.

As he ran after the two wolves, the pup was yapping a warning to the she-wolf, trying to catch her attention to inform her that Leto was right behind them. It was an understandable act, and he was not offended or hurt at all that she had done so; after all, he had attacked her savior. He could only hope that they could understand his reasons, despite the fact that he was probably the only wolf in existence, the only wolf to have ever walked the face of the earth, that loved the humans in such an unconditional way.

"Wait, please," he called out after them. "I'm not going to hurt you!" His words sounded ridiculous, even to himself, but he still had to try to set things right. Increasing his speed, Leto managed to get in front of the older wolf, knowing that if he could convince the she-wolf, then the pup would go along with whatever she said. Before he could stop her, a loud gunshot reverberated through the air, whizzing across the land and piercing the she-wolf with a merciless bite. It had all happened so fast, yet at the same time, the events seemed to play out so slowly in time with his heartbeat.

The blood that blossomed against her head like a rose.

The bullet that grazed his shoulder.

The shock of seeing that it had been the human whose dog he had protected was the killer.

Why? Why had he fired? Why did he aim to kill? Didn't he understand that Leto was on his side, that all Leto had ever wanted was for that man and his kind and all his possessions to be safe from harm? Didn't he understand that Leto would attack his own kin to protect them?

Too engrossed in his own thoughts, Leto didn't see the body of the she-wolf, tumbling viciously toward him; even in death, she could not agree with him. His legs were tangled in her body and he tripped, toppling over in the snow in a wild web of brown and red fur. Opening crimson eyes, he stared at his dead comrade, suddenly feeling a pang of guilt; somehow, he felt responsible for what had happened. They hadn't seen eye to eye, but he surely wouldn't have wished death upon anyone, much less his own.

Leto! Get a hold of yourself!

The brown wolf shook himself out of his thoughts, remembering that the enraged man still had a gun with bullets and that there was still a motherless pup to look after -- and his goal. He couldn't die yet. Not yet. Not until he found what it was he was looking for. Untangling himself from the corpse of a once beautiful wolf, a pain shot up his leg as his body protested against the rough movements. Cringing, he willed himself to ignore the sharp and deafening feeling, forcing one leg in front of the other in slow but quickening movements.

"Run, pup!" he urged desperately, unable to have another dead body on his conscience. "Now's not the time to mourn!" Did he say that for the sake of the little wolf, or did he say that to convince himself it was okay not to lie down and die right then and there, that while the others fell down around him, he still needed to live and move forward? "Move!"

On the run through residential streets. Towards The Dancing Jackal.

The male wolf's words were ignored as another shot rang out, Tala heard someone go down and looked over her shoulder. She had hoped the bad wolf was the one that had fallen, but she was horrified to see it was her heroin that was down. The pup slid to a stop and let out a whimper followed by a yip. Some part of Tala knew it was impossible, but the little ball of fur hoped to see her savior get back up... to react to her whimpered call. It didn't happen. She was dead! He killed her! Terror eyes shifted from the body to the red wolf that had attacked Belle.

It felt like time stood still. Her hero was dead, and another wolf helped kill her! The male wolf's voice seemed to be coming from far away as Tala tried to grasp everything that was happening. Why was he telling her to run..? Did he want to chase her down? After a few moments, Tala turned and ran as fast as her legs would carry her, which was surprisingly fast, even for a wolf. Ether the human would kill her or the red wolf would if she didn't move.... but it was hard to leave the she-wolf behind. The one that had saved her.. the first wolf she had seen in over a year... dead.

Now the tearful pup was alone and running for her life again. She wanted to escape the male wolf as much as the human with the gun. He was on their side.. one of them. No matter how many times the pup went over it in her mind she could barely believe it. Eventually the pup turned into the back streets in hopes of losing the red wolf, streets that ran behind The Dancing Jackal farther down.

For a while, panic attacked his being. Leto saw that the pup could be register what he as saying, and as his mind groped for other possibilities, he turned back to see that the man was still there and aiming to kill. What else could they do? He'd die, and the pup would die, if he didn't run back to kill to the man -- but he was a human. How could he ever raise a paw at those he loved so much? The pain in his shoulder increased with every breath he took, his vision flickering in and out of a black abyss. Had the bullet grazed his shoulder or did it shoot right through in a clean hit? He couldn't even tell with the pain.

Luckily, the pup started dashing down the streets through the back paths, and he felt relief wash over his body. Forcing his body to move, he ran after her and hopefully out of view of the gunner, each step bringing a heightened sense of agony that the adrenaline couldn't cover. His powerful eyes scanned the path in front of them, seeing things that others couldn't see: there were groups of humans farther down; if they kept running in that direction at that speed, they'd hit them in no time. He didn't have a problem with that, but he was sure the pup would be terrified.

"Wait, it's not safe down there!" he called out, cringing as the wound bumped against a rough, brick wall, tearing at the wound. If he wasn't careful and concentrating on his movements, he'd quickly develop more injuries and worsen the received damage. "Pup, don't go! Was she even listening? Would she listen? He couldn't take that chance; increasing his speed, he managed to jump over her with the intent to block her way in the narrow back alleys. His legs were longer, more developed, more powerful due to the age difference and the experience; catching up and passing her through the air was easily enough.

He landed a couple of feet in front of the small, terrified wolf; he could see the fright in her eyes, due to his appearance or the gunshot, he wasn't sure. Maybe it was because of both. The brown wolf could only hope that the pup wouldn't try to escape someway and listen to what he had to say. He had her safety at his heart, even if she didn't realize it.

"Wait, just -- just wait one moment," Leto said desperately. With each step, he felt as though he was ripping the wound further, mutilating the gash to something worse. "Listen to me, listen -- I won't hurt you. I promise. I can see farther than you can; if you keep going down this direction, you'll hit several groups of humans. Just stay right here where it's safe; no one will find you here, and I won't eat you or something ridiculous like that."

Black dots clouded his sight.

"Please believe me. I won't hurt you."

The panicked Tala kept looking over her shoulder as she ran. She wasn't sure if the man with the gun would track them down, but she couldn't see him.. for the moment. What she did see, however, was the wounded red wolf was still after her. He helped the human kill her heroin and now he was after her! Weather he would kill her himself or take her back to the human with the gun, the pup didn't want to find out. ~Gotta get away! Gotta get away!~ The thoughts pulsed through the pup's mind as surly as her heart pulsed in her chest.

Tala could vaguely hear the male wolf call to her, but everything in her screamed for her to keep running, to escape these killers that would see her harmed. When the ball of sandy colored fluff looked over her shoulder again, she was surprised to see the male gone. Did she get away..? Before any relief could set in, Tala looked forward again and saw the killer right in front of her! Tala's Teal eyes went even wider as she yelped and slammed all four paws into the snow, causing her to slide a couple of feet, almost right into the bleeding male.

The pup's slide had brought her within inches of the red wolf, and Tala started back peddling away the instant she stopped. Her ears were back, body low and tail between her legs as she snarled and growled. All of her body language pointed to an animal that didn't want to fight, but felt threatened enough to do so if pushed. She was as scared as ever, and thought this wolf every bit as dangerous as the human that shot him.. if not more so.

"Go-go away! L-Leave me alone!" The snapped loudly as she continued to back away. "You! You killed her! You killed her!" Tala screamed the words, tears falling from her eyes. Then she let out a squeaky, high pitched howl. It was as loud as her lungs would allow. Some part of her knew no help was coming. No mother to spring to her rescue. Not this time. Yet, like any scared child, Tala couldn't help but call for her.

The Dancing Jackal
Aura Gave out a playful pup sounding 'ruff.' As she jumped down from the stairs. She sort of bowed to the new wolf as a greeting, then ran off after Gidon and kept pace with him.

She trotted merrily. A new wolf around meant a new person to seek out attention from.

She steadied her gaze sideways at Gidon, his wolf form was so graceful, she imagined the muscles working underneath the fur. Confidant and strong with each movement they made. He was a beautiful wolf, no doubt--Someone that was nice to look at.

Realizing she was staring, she shifted her view back in front of her.

Still catching glances at Gidon through her peripherals, she wondered what went through his mind. As Aura sought out the comfort of being among others, it was hard to connect with the two current wolves she saw every day. Gidon because she couldn't predict his moods or thoughts, and Ellie . . . Well, She clearly just did not want to be bothered.

Her mind went back to the new wolf, and she wondered if he was someone that would be easy to be around. She hoped he was nice.
She craned her neck around to see if the new wolf was following. And to see what he looked like. Was he as graceful and strong as Gidon? More so? Was he smart? Would he stick around the Dancing Jackal? So many questions she kept asking herself. She silenced her mind, with the content thought that they would probably be answered soon.

Outside The Jackal

Farran's ears tucked back as he bared his sharp canines at Gidon. While he was overjoyed to meet others he didn't trust them yet.
Skepticism, was a trait of a survivor.

He may not have been friendly, but he did not do anything to make them think he was violent.Though he bore his fangs and growled, he remained in a curled up position, having yet to rise to his feet.

It was only when the white one finished speaking, Farran seemed to relax, all be it minimally.

"Declined." He answered quickly. He wasn't going to be walking into some human building with wolves he didn't trust. "I appreciate the offer...but I'm warm enough here, besides I wouldn't want to impose..."

Farran shot Gidon another sharp look meaning his answer would not change.

"I'll take my chances out here." He said flatly. "And if Hunters do show up, I have a better chance of escaping, as well as leading them away from you all in the process. so think of it as beneficial for you to let me sit out here."

There was no denying the smell of another wolf's blood in the air. The gunshot had become a slightly more troubling sound as a result. But Farran would not back down...he was being stubborn.

He finally stopped snarling at Gidon and lowered his head to the ground.

"If you all want to talk, I won't be going anywhere, but if that's all you have to say, I'm going to sleep." He yawned slightly, but kept a careful eye on the backs of the others as they walked back into the building.

In spite of the fact that a handful of gunshots had rung out prior to the final, most notable one, Ellie did not take notice of the chaos occurring a few blocks away from the Dancing Jackal until she heard that pitiful wolf pup's howl reach her from the dark, musty recesses of the back alleyways. Even though the sound was faint, it was duplicated by the sensation of the pup's emotion that rattled Ellie's core. She froze, standing off to the side of the doorway as Gidon made his way inside, her ears pricked, tail sticking out straight behind her as the hair on the back of her shoulders raised.

Something was terribly wrong.

She glanced towards Gidon's form, then shifted to watch Aura saunter back into the bar before Ellie turned to the entrance, taking up her human disguise before stepping out into the snow.

"I'll only be a moment," she said to no one in particular before setting off at a sprint down the alley, and off towards the residential streets on the 'bad' side of Freeze City.

As though there was only one bad side.

Slipping on ice, her feet scrambling for purchase as she rushed towards the sound of the pitiful wolf's howl, she picked up on the panic, the fear, the desperation that became ever stronger, like an odor that filled her mind with the emotions of those she was sensing. She barely avoided knocking over a garbage can or two, finally stumbling out onto open road, somewhere between the group of humans at the end of the street...and the two wolves caught up in a Mexican standoff just off to her left. To the human eyes, she seemed to be just a panicked, cold woman short of breath. To the wolves, well...

Her white fur was bristled as she raced for the pup, unceremoniously positioning herself somewhat over her and stared at the other male wolf, dark eyes glittering.

"Child, hush," she said immediately, lowering her face close to the pups as she attempted to calm her with a reassuring look. Her head lifted then, regarding the other male.

But she did not bare her teeth, or emit any other threatening gesture. Her eyes flickered to his injury, the tense face-down between the adult wolves providing enough friction to melt the ice off of the street.

"There isn't much time." she murmured tentatively. "Quickly, before the others see you."

She lowered her head again, nudging Tala with her nose for just a moment. "Trust me, alright? I'll take you someplace safe." Without waiting for the pup's response, Ellie took the nape of her neck gently between her teeth, lifting her up off the ground and trotting quickly for the alley from where she'd come. She didn't look back for Leto until she reached the safe shadows that concealed all but her glowing yellow eyes.

"Come along, Wolf." she said a bit more sternly, before turning and disappearing around the corner.

Outside the government facility fence

The guard’s eyes were wide and his face tense with concentration. When the rifle round had bit into the skull of the female wolf, he had felt his soul jump inside him. He had actually done it! Her rolling form had tripped the father. He couldn’t tell if that had been the whole stray family. The pup was horrified, whirling around to regard her dead mother. He had the crosshair on the father who was struggling to scramble to his feet. Did he want to kill him too? The pup wouldn’t survive alone.

After a few thoughtful moments, the guard lowered his rifle and watched as the dogs escaped. He strode to the side of the dead shepherd and knelt next to him to brush his gloved hand from his shoulder to his hip, feeling his thick, brown pelt beneath it.

“You can sleep easy, boy. I got the bitch that killed you,” the guard told him before standing to regard the two carcasses he’d have to bury. If they stayed out in the snow too long, there were some Freezing City residents who would be desperate enough to steal them for food. He understood that times were hard, but there was no excuse for crazy.

From the alley stood a man draped in grey who had been watching the incident with the guard and the wolves. The white sky gleamed against the lenses of his black, ski goggles and white, slithers of condensation escaped the serpent’s embrace that his grey wolf scarf had about his face. Sitting obediently to the left and right of his booted feet were a dark-grey Akita and a black Dutch shepherd. The dogs had been studying the ordeal, growling softly every few seconds as drops of froth dripped from their muzzles.

The fool should have killed them, the hunter thought before he turned away from the guard and started jogging down the alley. He didn’t want to lose them. The dogs mimicked their master’s movements, keeping up with him despite the leashes that tugged at their collars. The chains that held the dogs were linked to a harness about the hunter’s waist. It allowed him to keep his hands free in case he needed to make a swift shot.

“Jessup! Sniff’em out!” he ordered to the shepherd.

The Dutch shepherd paced ahead of his master and the Akita sniffing at the cold air as his sharp ears kept cupped to the wind. A soft, distant howl of a pup was the first sound to enter them. Jessup and the Akita had both heard it and began barking and dancing in a frenzy.

“Take me to’em,” the hunter ordered. “Go, go!”

The Dancing Jackal

Just as Gidon entered the doorway, he froze. His white eyes widened, ears became stiff, and his hackles flared at the nearby sorrowful song of a pup. He had wondered if the other wolves had heard it. Of course they must have! The black wolf was hesitant to take action. The pup’s howling could attract hunters, and it might have been better if they had stayed in The Jackal than to intervene. It would have been cold and dirty to leave the pup to die, but it was for their survival.

As soon as Ellie faced him, his snout wrinkled, revealing his fangs as a growl rolled from his muzzle.

“Ellie; no,” he growled. He had seen the glimmer of worry in her eyes. He couldn’t expect the females around him to ignore their maternal natures. As she reverted to her human guise to quickly take to the streets, Gidon had shifted to his own human form, and jogged after her to try and snatch her wrist.

“Ellie; don’t be stupid!” he shouted in protest.

She was gone, running down the street. Gidon was hesitant to follow, the cold air giving him more than just chills. She was crazy, or maybe, he was insensitive. He should have been the first one racing to rescue that pup like Ellie. Gidon frowned as he lowered his blue eyes to think over his actions. Ellie was out there now, and he couldn’t leave her alone to get harmed. She was one of them.

Gidon glanced to Aury. “Aury, come with me please. This might be too dangerous for one wolf to handle on her own.” It could have easily been a trap. He then peered over his shoulder at the trash pile.

“As for you, if all you’re good for is sitting on your furry ass beneath a pile of garbage, then watch the bar for us. It’s the least you can do in case we don’t come back,” Gidon said to Farran.

He then bolted in the direction Ellie had gone. It disturbed him to follow her. She might have been running right into a death trap and here he was about to join her.

Alley before the open road

There were a series of events that transpired as Ellie gathered Tala into her arms and entered the alley. The hunter was on the road with his two dogs pulling him along. The wounded Leto was within their sights and the hunter went to the rings on his harness, releasing the chains of Jessup and his Akita, Mitsuhide. Gidon had slowed his approach when seeing Ellie with Tala between within her chops. He hadn’t known of Leto’s presence until he caught the whiff of wolf blood and he didn’t see any injuries on the pup.

Just beyond Ellie’s shoulder, he saw the two dogs charging past the alley and the hunter in grey that had been following them. He had unslung his rifle and he was prepared to finish the job the guard hadn’t.

The sight of the hunter, alone, caused Gidon’s pupils to shrink in shock amidst his blue hues. He was what spurred Gidon to attack. He dropped his human guise and with a vicious snarl charged into the street, unsheathing his fangs before he launched off the ground to tackle him. His teeth sank into his forearm like knives, and he began ferociously jerking his head about.

The hunter’s rifle went off haphazardly as he collapsed in the icy road. He used his forearm to keep the black wolf from getting to his neck and face, while his other hand was still grasping his rifle. His scarf had tumbled from his face, revealing his teeth clenched in pain before he uttered a pained cry.

Jessup and Mitsuhide had slid to a halt before Leto. The gunshot had the two dogs whirling to see the black wolf eating at their master. The Dutch shepherd’s ears went flat against his head as he growled to the Akita, “I’ll deal with him.”

The black shepherd took off like a bullet, raking up the snow as he went to tear Gidon off his master.

Mitsuhide set his brown sights upon Leto, specifically to the bullet wound in his shoulder.

“Does it hurt?” he asked curiously. The dog then thrust his head toward his shoulder wound with the intention of sinking his teeth into it. “I bet it hurts even more now!”

Dancing Jackal->Alley before the open road
A sick feeling haunted Aura's stomach as the pup's cry rang through her ears. Involuntary, she set out a howl up into the night air. She shook her head, what sick soul would cause such a horrible sound.

Everything was a blur. Ellie took off. Gidon commanded Aura-- she followed, of course. The dogs, the wolf hunter. Everything swirled around her.

Gidon threw himself into battle. Aura was NOT a fighter, she knew how, but she hated it. She have a snort and raced off to help Leto, anyway. She could not just sit there.
She ran with a fluid motion keeping her shoulders low. She bit at the hind leg of the Akita.

A plan formulated in her head. She was almost untraceable. Maybe-- if she created a big enough of a distraction, at least the two dogs would follow her. She could maneuver away from them. Thus getting the pup on a more even playing ground with both Gidon and Elli to help her. She formed the most vicious growl she could form in her chest as she mocked the dogs. She had her back to where she hoped to run to. She had both dogs in view.Teeth bared; hunkered down she was prepared to jump in the opposite direction in a moments notice.

. . . She just needed to get the attention of the two damn mutts!

alley
before
the open road

The pup wasn't listening to a word he was saying; whatever crazy delusion she had thought up in her head, it was powerful enough to keep a hold on her mind between what was reality and what was make-believe. She couldn't see that he wasn't going to do her harm; he actually wanted to help her. Leto bore no grudge against her, and neither did he hate the other wolf -- her mother, possibly? Maybe, maybe not, but either way, he had meant no harm; he just wanted to protect what his heart loved, what he couldn't bear to see torn down.

"Please, believe me! I'm not going to hurt you!" He was getting panicked, unsure of what to do; there was a large gash on his shoulder and a crying pup that hate his guts right in front of him. Down the street were humans that would either ignore them, find them cute, or eat the little one for dinner (because most likely, she'd try to attack them), and he couldn't have any of that. "I can't leave you by your -- " He was interrupted by her cries, her accusations: it was Leto that had killed the she-wolf.

Me? Not the human? And as she howled and cried and hated him furiously, he began to understand. The human had shot the she-wolf, but it was due to Leto's actions that caused her death...? It was due to Leto's actions that caused her death. If he hadn't interfered, if he hadn't shoved her aside, would there have been a chance that she would have survived? The dog was doomed from the start, but maybe they could've avoided another dead body -- and then maybe it wouldn't have mattered. The human was at fault, that guard, wasn't he? But the pup's hatred, her frustration and anger and fury, it was all directed at Leto, the wolf, the one that caused her death, and not the man; wasn't that a good thing? Keep the hate off the humans, keep the burden off their shoulders. He'd carry it for them. Even if it meant carrying it for all eternity, even into the next life, if there was a chance she could learn to accept the humans, to see them for what they were -- creatures of beauty, of invention, of wonder, of awe, of possibilities -- then he'd take it.

He'd shoulder all the hatred himself to the ends of the world.

"You're -- you're right. It was my fault. Blame me, but please, understand that I hadn't meant to do anything; I didn't mean to cause her death. I just want to help you, but you need to be quiet or else others will come." Without the time to wait for an answer, another wolf bounded onto the scene, much like how Leto had appeared out of nowhere to protect the fallen dog; this one came to protect the pup. Her dark eyes glittered from beneath flawless fur; he could sense an underlying message of warning, despite the fact that she did not attempt to attack him. When had there been so many wolves in one place before?

Without much words, the stranger wolf picked up the pup between gentle fangs and carried her off into the shadows. Unsure of what to do, Leto stood and watched, wondering what it was he was supposed to do now that the little one was gone and all he had left was to mend his injury; answering his question was her stern words, commanding him to follow. Leto was hesitant at her words; it had never been as obvious as that moment in time that he did not get along well with his own kind. However, her glowing eyes watching him momentarily from the darkness persuaded him, and he knew that, despite his thoughts and previous actions, there really was no option but to follow. Where else was he to go, if not with her? Leto lifted his right paw, trying to put as little strain as possible on the stressed and bleeding muscle. He limped after her as quickly as his injury would allow, almost breathing a sigh of relief that he didn't have to run or exert more energy than necessary.

"Wh-where are we going?" he asked, straggling behind her a few feet. "I'm Leto, by the way. Uh, what's your name?" He didn't receive an answer because at that moment, a regal, black wolf turned the corner. Suddenly, its blue eyes shrank with the aggression of an enraged wolf, and he shot down the alley as though in a frenzy, rushing past Leto's following eyes and attacking a human -- no, not a human, a hunter; and suddenly, Leto found himself torn between two worlds. The necklace bounced against his neck, reminding him of his compassion for the humans; but this was different than just a mere guard, confused and without the whole facts. This was a man trained to kill Leto and his kind, and this was a wolf protecting him and the others.

What am I supposed to do?

An Akita reared its vicious head at him, growling cruel things that only a dog of a hunter would be able to feel. The dog's head reached out to clamp an angry mouth over Leto's wound, but he swiftly jumped back, cringing in pain at the sudden movement and impact of the ground against the paw of the injured limb. "What are you doing?" he asked it. "Go help your master! He'll die!" Leto purposely opened his fangs and snapped at open air just before the dog, hoping to scare it off and not actually do any damage. "I'm not going to fight you. Leave, before any other gets here -- !" As if on cue, another wolf came and aimed for the hind leg of the Akita.

The smell of human blood had him turn his head away from the battle and at the man on the ground with the black wolf gnawing at his arm; there was another dog running to the human's aid, but would he make it in time?

"No, don't kill him!" he cried out, and found himself rushing toward the hunter -- but what could he do? What was he supposed to do? Which side was he supposed to be on? He could only watch from the side lines, unable to fight for either group.

Ally before the open road.

The ball of gray and sandy colored fluff didn't truly grasp anything that Leto was saying. She was too worked up in panic and sorrow to really listen. In fact, she barely realized he was talking at all. "You killed her! How could you?! It's all you're fault!" She screamed, as if he hadn't already admitted it. He had attacked her heroin instead of helping her! "You're one of THEM! Go awaay! Go awaayyy!" The last scream was followed by more howling, as if it would somehow chase the bigger wolf off, and Tala continued to back away. The pup didn't want to turn her back on the 'killer' wolf, and she was growing tired. The girl felt.. trapped.

Tala had been so intent on the dangerous, red wolf in front of her that she hadn't seen the white wolf aproach. In fact, the pup didn't know she was there until she was standing over her. It was so sudden and unexpected that the pup froze once more. Even her tears stopped flowing. So much was happening this day that Tala was at the end of her rope; emotionally and physically. The fear in the ball of fluff peaked for a moment when the she-wolf lowered her head. Yet she did not bite or grow... She spoke. Softly but firmly as her mother might have done. The relief that flooded the pup was so intense that not only did she go quiet as the white wolf asked, but she had to lay down before her legs gave out.

Against all odds, someone had answered her call and come to help her. Whether it was because this stranger was a female wolf, or the way she had spoken softly to her and stood to defend her like her mother would have, or simply because Tala was so Exhausted , the pup couldn't say. Still she trusted the white wolf enough not to make a fuss when she was lifted from the ground and curled her legs up instinctively to make it easier. The most unnerving part for Tala, was the fact that the red wolf had been invited to come along... after what he had done.

No sooner had she calmed down then all hell seemed to break loose. Dogs were barking, a black wolf was charging towards them, then past them, a gun was going off... Then yet another female appeared to attack one of the dogs... All the chaos made the pup's head spin. Now more wolves could get hurt or even die like her hero. A thought that made the pup whimper in fear, but an even more horrifying thought soon took it's place. The red wolf! Did they know he was on the human's side?! Teal blue eyes scanned for the bleeding wolf, but there was so much happening around them that it was hard to focus.

Ellie met Gidon’s eyes as she slipped further back into shadow, her teeth still clamped gently around the tuft of Tala’s neck. Leto called after her, introducing himself and asking her name. She would have replied if not for the fact that her mouth was currently full. So she continued to walk, trusting that the other male would follow her. The moment she slipped out of sight though, Gidon was off like a shot out of the alley, startling her into turning around so she could take in the scene of chaos as it unfolded right before her eyes.

The anger she felt from the others, the fear and the confusion and the desperation was enough to take her breath away.

She watched as Gidon raced for the hunter with the shot-gun, tearing at his arm and causing the weapon to discharge loudly into the air as he was pulled to the icy ground. Ellie flinched, her ears flattening against her skull as she crouched further in the shadows, silent as the snow banks that drifted up against the buildings on either side of her.

The black shepherd, a dog that accompanied the hunter, raced for Gidon just as the Akita, the shepherd’s companion, turned in an attempt to attack Leto. Before Ellie could blink, Aura was off like a shot, throwing herself against the Akita and dragging at its back leg.

She couldn’t stand back and hide while her kin were attacked in this way. She made up her mind before the conscious thought even formed. But first, she had to hide the pup.

Immediately, Ellie withdrew further, finding a safe, tucked-away nook to place Tala. She set her down behind a stack of boxes and a few garbage cans, running a swift lick over the top of her head to calm her before she lowered her muzzle to the pup’s ear.

“Just stay here, and stay quiet. I’ll come back for you. But do not let them see you.” She growled to the young female before backing up a few steps and racing for the alley exit. Before throwing herself into the fray, she did a quick scan to make sure that there weren’t any more enemies on the way. Aura was dancing on the edge of the Akita’s rabid clutches, attempting to lure it off. Leto was standing and shouting something she couldn’t pick out over the chaos…

And Gidon had his back completely exposed to the terrible fury of the black shepherd’s teeth and claws. It felt like hours, but only a few seconds had passed since the scene had transpired, so with her claws scraping against the pavement, she launched herself towards the shepherd. Moving like a blur against the snow, she raced at an angle for the shepherd, her ears flattened as she pushed herself to a full-out sprint.

Never emitting a sound, the female slammed the full force of her racing form into the shepherd’s shoulder, her head low as she attempted to butt the other animal’s snapping jaws away from Gidon.

Mitsuhide retracted his head when Leto had evaded him. His ears were flat against his head, chest thrust out and golden eyes glinting wickedly at the red wolf. He snapped threateningly in his direction and the Akita bore his vibrant rows of teeth as growls hummed from his throat.

“You’ll die first!” the Akita declared as he near pounced on him until sharp teeth snatched his hind leg. Mitsuhide faltered in his leap to land upon his belly. His head snapped behind him, his eyes wide with fury to see a female brown wolf all of a sudden. Where did she come from?

“Bitch!” the dog growled. His teeth parted and with a snarl, he whirled on her, unleashing a series of vicious snaps.

Gidon remained on the hunter, continuing to gnaw at his arm and fighting his flailing. Out of the corner of his eyes, he watched Jessup’s swift approach, and it wasn’t until he was a human’s arm-length away that the black wolf released the hunter’s arm and turned on him. The two beasts collided. The Dutch shepherd’s momentum throwing Gidon onto his back before he twisted and rolled beneath the dog that began trying to snag his neck. Their teeth raked along each other’s snouts, biting noses, and jaws in their battle.

The hunter crawled away from the fight, pushing himself across the ice and snow with his heels until he was three meters away. His wounded arm was trembling from pain and the ferocity of the bites. Through grit teeth, he managed to bring his hands together to hold his rifle.

Ellie rammed Jessup off Gidon, and the black wolf scrambled to his feet. The Dutch shepherd rolled and twisted onto his belly so to not expose it. His ears were flat against his head and he bore his teeth at the white wolf.

“You’re going to regret that!” he snarled.

Gidon took his eyes off Ellie and the Dutch shepherd to return his attention to the hunter, and the black wolf went completely still. The hunter had his rifle aimed upon him. Gidon’s eyes became fixed in a white-stare upon the hunter. He could feel his heart beating heavily within his furry chest. He kept his eyes off the rifle, but on the hunter. This must have been similar to what his father had felt that day. He couldn’t move because if he did he would die.

The hunter’s aim was wobbly since his forearm was injured and he couldn’t balance the weight of the rifle. The muzzle bobbed up and down in his difficulty. If that wolf made any sort of threatening movements, he would shoot him even if it meant missing. He’d shoot until he actually managed to hit the sucker.

Tala watched the chaos with wide eyed terror until the white wolf turned away from it. At first the pup thought the female planned to make a run for it, but that Idea was quickly set aside when Tala was set in a nook between some trash cans and boxes. The Lick to the top of her head was a little comforting, but Tala still feared for the life of the she-wolf now that she knew the older female was going back to help her pack. "O-okay.." The ball of fluff whimpered before the white wolf ran to help. Peeking from between the trash can and the wall of the buildung, Tala could only watch now.

It was the white wolf and the red wolf that Tala watched most intently. Though, her gaze drifted to the man with the gun and the black wolf every few moments. All of the others were in danger and fighting... they could die.. Another wolf could die. Because of HIM.. and maybe.. because of her? Tala had already reached the peak of fear and started to come down from it a little, but the fear was slowly turning into fuel. Tala had to help them before they died too... but what could a small pup do?

The black wolf seemed to be in the most trouble with a gun pointed at him. A gun like the one that shot her heroin... No. He wouldn't die like that! Not the white wolf ether! Or the other female helping them! The pup slowly squeezed her way between the trash cans and the wall, then inched her way towards the two, along the building until she reached the street, were she stayed crouched for a moment, trying to work up her nerve. Tala was silent, though she thought her own heart beat was dangerously loud in her ears. Then Tala broke into a full sprint. The ball of fluff had just a moment to hope that the other wolves and the human were distracted enough by each other not to notice her mad dash across the street.

If she made it to the human, Tala would have no more time to think, it was too late to turn back. Fulled by adrenalin, the pup leaped into the air, setting her sites for the man's injured arm. While Tala's jaws couldn't bend metal like an adult wolf, she could easily rip through flesh and right into the bone. If the attack landed, The pup's teeth would clamp down as tightly as she could manage and refuse to let go. The unexpected weight and pain on an injured arm might pull the human forward and down, making him an easier target, or at the very least distract the human if it hit. Thus giving the black wolf an easy opening.

Ellie’s ears swiveled, one focused on the shepherd in front of her, and the other taking in the sounds of Gidon’s scuffle coming from somewhere behind her. She stood her ground, lowering her head and glaring up at the other dog. It was difficult to ignore the anger she felt radiating from all around her, the intensity of it building to a slight tension headache that slipped down into her shoulders.

Her fur bristled as her lip curled, twitching once or twice before she relaxed. “If you know what’s good for you,” she said in a low voice, “You will turn around and leave.”

The sudden absence of sound from behind her had her anxiety doubling, and she chanced a glance over her shoulder to make sure that Gidon was okay.

He was certainly not okay.

But what could she do?! Here she was, warding off the shepherd while Gidon was getting aimed at. If she ran for the hunter, he’d probably get shot, and if she just stood there, he’d get shot too!

And that was when the pup launched herself at the hunger.

No!

Her distraction had pulled her attention away from the shepherd for too long, and she still didn’t think to turn back to face him. Her eyes were on the pup, stance shifting as she prepared to sprint to the young pup’s rescue.

Gidon’s stare intensified the moment he noticed the ball of fur darting toward the hunter in the corner of his peripherals. The hunter saw the pup coming and tried to turn the rifle on her, but then the black wolf lunged with a ferocious snarl. In his haste, the hunter misfired against the asphalt as he felt the pup clamp onto his arm that was already stinging with wolf bites. He had raised his free arm to keep the black wolf from getting to his neck and Gidon snagged the hunter’s forearm just as he had done to his right one.

The hunter screamed and the people that had been gawking at the scene began to approach to try and aid the hunter before he was ripped to pieces. They approached flailing their arms and trying to scare the wolves with shouts. Some brought whatever they could use as a weapon: sacks, trashcan lids, and pipes.

Jessup had bolted toward Ellie a step before he heard another gunshot. His ears went flat against his head and his tail briefly went between his legs as his eyes darted to the hunter, seeing him getting attacked again. The Dutch shepherd bore his teeth in frustration. He wanted to run to his master’s aid but suspected the white wolf would stop him.

Mitsuhide stopped snapping at the air when he noticed the wolf that had attacked him had vanished. With ears sitting forward upon his head in confusion, the Akita heard the gunshot and glanced at the hunter. His eyes widened in fright to see him getting mauled. What was Jessup doing?

“Master!” the Akita cried. The black and brindle dog charged angrily up the street to try and save him. He passed Leto, the wolf he wanted to mangle.

Gidon glanced at the humans charging toward them and released the hunter’s arm to grab for Tala’s collar. He yanked her free and whirled around, facing the flustered Dutch shepherd, Ellie, and the approaching Akita. He dropped Tala upon her feet, having only wanted to steer her intentions away from the hunter and also to free his jaws in case he needed to use them.

They needed to get out of there or they would all die. The dogs were making escape difficult, and the only way he could think for everyone to make it out alive was to split up and run until they were no longer being chased.

“Split up and run!” Gidon barked.

The black wolf bolted sharply to his left down an alley. It bothered him to leave Ellie, and especially the pup behind, but this wasn’t the wilderness. These were the streets, a different playground. With only two wolves willing to fight, technically three with the pups recent addition, there wasn’t enough offense to put up a good defense. They would be at the mercy of the dogs and the humans. As he ran, Gidon couldn’t stop clenching his teeth in rage. This was why he told Ellie not to go.

As the humans crowded the hunter, his arms and the snow around him were blood-soaked and his whole being was trembling from hypothermia.

“Jessup! Mitsuhide! Kill them!” the hunter roared.

Mitsuhide turned his charge on Tala, and Jessup lunged at Ellie.

The amount of chaos that had been released in that alleyway was ridiculous. Sounds of barks and fangs chomping together, whether on empty air or jagged flesh, littered the atmosphere, a sort of cruel orchestra performing for free in the streets. There were people that caught sight of the warfare occurring merely feet away from them, but Leto didn't have time to think about that. He couldn't think about their safety, because at the moment, he was frozen with indecision -- a feeling that was worse than fear.

When you were afraid, there wasn't much to it. You were scared, but you knew what you had to do to survive; you knew your options and what you wanted. The only problem was that you were afraid to pick it. On the other hand, when you were indecisive -- ah. Now that's where it got difficult. An indecisive wolf was worse than a frightened one, because a predator that could not make a choice was a dead one. Life was all about choices, and the moment a creature decided to stop and not pick from the doors fate had given it? Well, that was the moment one died. Life was not a sentimental woman, and as Leto stood there, rooted to the spot like a statue, he was in the middle of signing his own death warrant.

"Think Leto!" He shifted his body to where the stress on his other paw would cause a painful strain on his injured shoulder, reeling him back to reality. What do you want? What do you want!

The pendant bounced against his chest.

As Mitsuhide shot past him like a bullet, his heart restarted, the adrenaline kicking in once again. His legs began pumping quickly, following after the dog with the intentions of not impeding him and killing his master, but of saving him, saving the human. Save the human over the wolves; save the human. That thought was chanted in his mind like a sort of spell; each thump of his necklace corresponded with the beginning of a new whisper of the desire to save humans, almost like a spell.

Leto wasn't going to kill the pup -- no, he could never do that, not after what he had done to her, but he'd try his best to remove her off the man's arm. However, before the red wolf could even make his way there, the black wolf -- an alpha, it seemed like -- had already grabbed her collar and yanked her off, dropping her to the ground afterward. It was then that the stranger yelled for everyone to split up and leave, finding the situation grim with the possibilities of death.

But the human? How was the human? People began to crowd around the hunter, and though his advanced sight could not break past the bodies that shielded the man from view, Leto could hear him, hear his pain. Still, he didn't seem to be on the edge of life, because the next thing he heard was the hunter yelling for the dogs to attack.

As Mitsuhide turned and charged at Tala, the other one was aiming for the she-wolf -- another decision: the human, the pup, or the wolf? Leto could only assume that the man would be in good hands now that he was amongst his own, and that thought seemed to satisfy the pendant for the time being, for its dark and alluring voice ceased to murmur in his head. Now, Guilt reigned free, for he was the one that caused the death of the pup's mother, that wolf from before. The other being attacked by Jessup was an adult; he could only hope that she would be okay, because he had a responsibility and a duty to protect Tala. It was the least he could do.

His paws slid against the ice, causing him to stumble and he changed his direction and swerved; that lost him several seconds, but he hoped he would be able to make it in time to save her. He couldn't kill the possession of a human, so aiming for the jugular was out of the question -- a leg, maybe? That would work, and so Leto increased his speed, the blood pumping through his veins masking the pain of his shoulder temporarily as his mind raced against the angels and the devils. When he was close enough, he strained his neck and opened his fangs, snapping at the hind legs of Mitsuhide with the intent to wound.

The very instant that Gidon barked the command, he tore off, fleeing the scene, and leaving Ellie, Tala, and the rogue, traitorous wolf to manage on their own. She only took a second to collect her thoughts, turning to relocate the pup as the hunter lifted his voice in an enraged, panic cry.

In her peripheral vision, she could see Jessup springing for her. Bunching up her muscles, the white wolf threw herself into a mad sprint, kicking up snow in the process as she raced for the pup. Mitsuhide had come so close to clasping his jaws around her…but that third wolf, the one who had gotten injured…he was there to distract Mitsuhide from attacking Tala.

It was perfect.

Pushing herself almost to the point of pain, Ellie raced for the pup, snatching her up in her jaws before turning in the opposite direction Gidon had gone, tearing down the alleyway and turning a corner before putting up the illusion of her human self.

“I’m sorry this is all so abrupt,” she said breathlessly, her voice a little muffled. “Are you hurt?”

She didn’t seem the least bit upset that the pup hadn’t done as she’d asked. Who could make her? Ellie was not her mother. “We’ll go back to a safer place once things have settled down. I know a roundabout route back to the tavern. I can take you there.”

But only if the pup would let her.

Open road before alley

The missed shot on the asphalt made the pup flinch, but Tala still clamped her teeth down on the hunter's arm and shook her head violently, as if she were trying to rip the limp right off. It wasn't far from the truth. Instinct had taken over. It was a matter of survival to bring this human down now. all of Tala's fear and sorrow over her hero's death could be unleashed to help keep others safe. There was no thought behind the pup's frenzied assault once the human went down. Just a need to survive.

It wasn't until the male pulled her away that Tala's vicious attempt to rip the human apart stopped. Only then did she notice the group of human's coming to save their own and the two dogs coming to save their master. She froze. Tala's burst of courage was rather short lived, the fear that the pup had been able to momentarily turn into fuel now kept her pinned in place like before.

The Akita lunched, the red wolf behind him, no doubt ready to kill her as well. With a yelp, the ball of fluff closed her eyes and waited for the teeth and pain. Well the teeth came.. but no pain. Instead she was yanked away from the snow. It took a couple of moments for Tala to open her eyes and see who had saved her. The white wolf!

Tala was amazed and relieved at the same time. The white wolf was not only okay, but she had managed to save her from two dogs and a rogue wolf! The pup curled instinctively to be easier to carry, and tried to stay focused as the white wolf spoke. "O-okay.." Tala stammered. There was no need for the she-wolf to apologize, she had just saved her life again! Tala would have time to wander over the fact that her savior wasn't angry at her for not listening and feeling guilty about putting her in more danger once they were safe, but for now, the pup could still hear the dogs and humans behind them, and the need to survive surpassed all else.

Freeze City Alleys

Gidon’s eyes were clenched tightly as a great pain stirred in his chest—more painful than the wounds that covered his body. It was guilt. His black muzzle rolled back, bearing the whites of his teeth as he ran—the snow hissing beneath his large paws. What a coward…he had been no different than Aury. At first, he had thought she was a traitor for bailing on them, but she must have foreseen the situation escalating into this. If they had stayed and fought to the end, and died together, then what would that achieve? Survival was priority and Gidon prayed to the gods that Elly and Tala were okay. The taste and soft texture of the pup’s fur was still on his tongue, and he could imagine her still in his mouth. He wanted to imagine that he had never put her down only to run off and leave her. She must have been terrified and loathed him.

Bowing his head, his pointy ears went flat against his skull as he quickened his sprint. It felt like there were numerous eyes on him. He needed to find a place to assume his human guise. The black wolf was unsure if it was wise. He would look just as beat up as he did currently, and it may attract unwanted attention from humans.

Please make it back to the pub, Elly, Gidon mentally pleaded. He hoped she had the puppy too. He didn’t know what to do about the red wolf he had seen. He was in bad shape. Gidon had smelled fresh blood and hopefully, he had decided to run too. He would need to ignore the pain of his injuries. If he wanted desperately to live, then he needed to do just that. If he survived until night, the moon would heal him. Gidon thought about searching for him later. He had his scent.

Open road and then down an alley.

Jessup had landed where Elly had once been and was right on her tail when she dashed for the wolf pup. Foam had gathered in the corner of his black jaws and his teeth were eager to sink into her pelt. She snatched up the pup and nearly shook him when she changed directions. Jessup’s paws slid across the snow and ice, his claws raking the asphalt for traction before he chased the white female. He chased her down an alley and watched her turn a corner. The Dutch shepherd turned down the same corner and lunged at Elly with a vicious snarl.

The illusion had no effect on animals, and it had only worked on humans. The animals saw the wolves for what they were, and if Elly wasn’t careful, the Dutch shepherd’s teeth were looking to lethally snag the pup from her maw.

Open Road

Mitsuhide felt his body hesitate and sharp teeth once again clamp around his leg. The Akita growled savagely, and whirled around to see the red wolf from before. He had thought at first that it would be the elusive female.

“I will rip you to shreds!” the Akita growled.

Mitsuhide lunged at Leto. He had every intention to tackle him with his weight and gnaw him so mercilessly that no one would be able to distinguish if he was a dead dog or raccoon.

She was flying, her feet scrambling for purchase as she turned corners, racing through the alleyways and attempting to lose the dog that was pursuing her with deadly persistence. She wasn't going to be able to get the pup safely back to the bar without bringing the dog along with them, and trying to intimidate the creature behind them was doing nothing except putting off the inevitable.

She was going to have to fight him.

She jerked her head to the side, away from Jessup's snapping jaws, and haphazardly tossed the pup forward onto the pavement, before turning and ramming Jessup up against the brick wall of the alleyway.

"Run!" she shouted at the pup. "Run, and don't stop for anything!"

She turned with a vicious snarl, snapping at Jessup's face, his throat, doing absolutely everything she could to keep herself between him and Tala.

With a snarl, Jessup writhed back, twisting his head around and lifting a large forepaw in an attempt to claw at her eyes. Flattening her ears, she ducked her head, butting him in the side of the maw, and yelping when he sunk his teeth into her shoulder. Teeth scraped bone, sending a horrible ache down her spine even as she twisted , latching onto the side of his throat with her powerful jaws.

Jessup immediately let go, wild panic shining in his eyes as he tried to back up, dragging her with him, whining and gurgling as his blood spilled over Ellie's maw.

It was over in a matter of minutes. His trachea had been crushed, and the blood loss would not have been recovered from. Limping slightly, with his blood staining her maw, Ellie stood back from the twitching body, shaking her head of the scent of him before turning and running for the pup.

"Let's go.." she managed, keeping an even pace in spite of the injury.

Open road

Tala was curled into a tiny ball as the white wolf ran with her. Her heart was racing with fear and her teal-blue eyes were wide, but all the ball of gray fluff could do was watch and whimper as Jessup snapped at her. His jaws, capable of ripping her in two, closing just inches from her tail.

Before she knew it, Tala was flying. The pup rolled when she hit the asphalt and let out a yelp of pain and surprise. She wasn't seriously injured, but being thrown and landing on the road didn't exactly tickle. Tala was a little slow to get up, she was starting to run out of steam. It was pure adrenalin fueled fear that got the pup back on her feet.

The she-wolf was yelling at her to run, but Tala paced there for a moment. Ellie had saved the pup's life more than once now. The pup was scared. Yet she didn't want to leave the white one. She didn't want to be alone. Images of Tala's mother, memories of the day she lost her, flicked through the pup's mind. It only added to her fear. The ball of fluff let out a pitiful bark at Ellie, one that trailed into a whine as she finally turned to run with her tail between her legs. "I'm sorry!" She cried. Tears welled in the pup's eyes and she returned to her human illusion as she ran.

The pup missed the end of the fight, but she was relived when the she wolf caught up to her so quickly. At least until she smelled the blood hit her nostrils. She was hurt! "Are you okay?" Tala asked a little breathlessly as she dropped back slightly to run next to the she-wolf. Tala didn't know how to get to the tavern Ellie spoke of before. She was relying on the larger wolf to know what to do now.

lol I feel so sorry for Leto. Abandoned in his condition...the wolf god must be against him!

Re: The Road to Paradise - LF 1 Female Wolf!

Everyone is apparently still here. The only player I know nothing about is Psyduck. I should have tweaked Gidon's post. It just seems so dumb that he would put Tala down and tell everyone to run lol.

Re: The Road to Paradise - LF 1 Female Wolf!

Re: [OOC] The Road to Paradise - LF 1 Female Wolf!

Re: [OOC] The Road to Paradise - LF 1 Female Wolf!

Fizzgig is going to post, and I'll post after her unless showers you'd like to, but just let me know. I felt my next post would give more feed to those who didn't know what to post.

Re: [OOC] The Road to Paradise - LF 1 Female Wolf!

stuck in a writer's block.
i'm sure it'll get pumping and active again soon!

Re: [OOC] The Road to Paradise - LF 1 Female Wolf!

It's not shut down. It's just no one has been posting after I asked for people to start posting. I guess everyone thought I was joking.

Re: [OOC] The Road to Paradise - LF 1 Female Wolf!

hey sonata,
"in the process of reviving"
doesn't mean the game's actually shut down
temporarily or anything, does it?
cause i was thinking about posting today.
