Introduction
Welcome to Zeta Complex, Humans! You have been chosen to participate in the Ultrathon, a flagship reality entertainment programme! Or was it an ancient spiritual ritual? Or perhaps scientific research? Either way, it is a great honour to be chosen! You are free to decline to participate, but you'll have to remain on the compound for the duration of the Ultrathon, during which time you may browse our array of shops and services! However, everything must be paid for in U-tokens, which can, you guessed it, only be obtained through participating in challenges. Since that includes food, some level of participation is highly recommended!
Challenges come in many forms! Some will be combat-based, some will be team exercises, and some will involve voting for or against your fellow selectees. Participation can have great rewards, but also great risks!
That brings us to the best part: to make things a little more interesting, you won't have to rely entirely on your pathetic human capabilities! While you were unconscious, your genome has been modified to include the O-Chromosome, which we can use to safely and conveniently transfer powers and attributes between your person and our central computer.
Good luck! But remember, luck isn't everything...

This RP is inspired by this thread on the GitP forums, where people generate random superpowers and say what they'd do with them. This is a bit more advanced though, with a story and character interaction.
As a player, creativity is essential and a sense of humour is definitely a plus, although drama and strategy will hopefully play a part in the story too. Teamwork and Machiavellian scheming are both encouraged, and some players might want to make use of PMs to coordinate with other players.
To enter, just supply a character application with a realistic human character. They can be of any age, background or temperament, and anyone from a completely normal average Joe to some superstar athlete or hitman, as long as their abilities are plausibly within the range of natural human capability. Don't worry too much about making them balanced or optimized, as long as you think you can play them in an interesting way. They can even be disabled if you like. Often the rounds will be designed to turn the normal rules on their head, and you might find that a weakness can be an advantage!
When your character is accepted, I'll assign them a random power from superpowerlist.com. I might clarify these powers with certain limits or conditions, or modify them slightly to make them more consistent. If you're not sure if a use of a power is 'legal', ask me.
There will be opportunities to trade and acquire more powers later on, but it's recommended you get to know your starting power well. Even the most 'useless' powers can have surprising applications!
I'll be gradually introducing in-game 'rules' and elements of the story as we go. I'll keep a record of the important points here.
Tournament Information:
1) You are trapped in a complex of rooms and machinery that mostly resembles a high-tech shopping mall. There are no exits. There are no living beings except you and the other kidnapped humans, and a few plants.
2) There are a range of automated 'shops' that dispense all kinds of goods and services in exchange for U-tokens, the complex's currency. Most of the interfaces have a holographic display, but are operated with a psychic link established by touch.
3) The main rooms of the complex are connected by corridors and escalators. There's also a system of tubes through which high-speed single-person pods travel between locations, called hypertubes. It looks like a lot of the complex is currently inaccessible.
4) Each person has their own room in the complex, resembling a hotel room. This is only accessible by hypertube, and each room can only be accessed by its owner.
5) Each personal room has a 'biotron' unit, a shower-like appliance which, amongst other things, can be used to read information on current powers. As it happens, it can also be used as a shower.
7) A disembodied voice sometimes speaks. It sounds tinny as though it's coming over a PA system, but there are no apparent speakers. Sometimes it will answer questions or react to things you do, as though it's watching you. Other times it will ignore you completely.
8) One of the applicants is an 'agent' for the Voice. It might be a player character or an NPC.

Looking at his own tokens, he knew he wouldn't be able to do any bidding this round. He wasn't exactly sure how he'd ended up in the negative, but it didn't bode well if they didn't get something for the team soon.

The lot appeared on the screen, the bidding interface lighting up expectantly.
One of the consoles blinked.
We're only interested in Iceworks, read the screen. "We're willing not to bid on this lot as long as you promise not to bid on that."
A message arrived on one of the consoles.
"As we've told the other group, we have no interest in this lot. We're willing not to bid on it if you can do something for us in exchange."

Re: The Superpower Lottery
I know this is late, but I was kind of busy. I can't believe this... I hope we'll be able to revive this in the future.
Re: [OOC] The Superpower Lottery
I do regret that a lot of people never even got to use their powers, but that's how it goes. Many thanks for sticking with it as far as you have, and hopefully everyone had fun while it lasted. Maybe it's even given you a few ideas for the future, I know it has for me! I might do something like this again at some point in the future when I have more energy, and if I do you'll be the first to know.
So again, sorry, thanks, and I wish everyone happy RPing in the future.

Think of it like this: anyone can 'open' a bid, but for that bid to be valid it has to be 'filled' with tokens, supplied either from personal balance or by the leader.

And short answer, no, at least not yet. If you like you can have your character keep a personal tally and buy whatever other characters ask for with their 'share'.
