If Ronan had to be honest, the last thing they expected was for Sven to be understanding. Well, that wasn't to say they thought Sven was ignorant or incapable of understanding. It was more so, they were shocked that Sven was willing to actually listen and accept the apology. However fragmented that it may have been, or even assuming they honestly believed any of it. Even Ronan wasn't ignorant enough to think they had been entirely innocent in everything that happened in the past. They may have been a bit more slow on the updates and understanding how life and the world worked in most regards. But where it counted, Ronan was smart enough to understand.
Sure, coming back to this damned place was the last thing that Ronan had been anticipating, or even really wanting. Coming back to the place that was the focal point of so much torment and painful memories, was't ideal. But here they were. More or less having to face the demons and skeletons in their closet, all because they had to ensure Hargeeves' death. Whatever closure would come from knowing that he was gone, would maybe be what they needed. But even then, Ronan doubted it. The scars, however literal or metaphorical in nature, they still ached and burned. There was no denying the past having ever happened. They'd all need to be pools to pretend it didn't happen. No matter how much they may have wanted to pretend, this was their reality. No matter how ugly it was.
A heavy sigh finally escaped Ronan's lips as they looked down, burying their hands in their jacket's pockets as they thought for a moment. Ronan was glad that Sven didn't want to be angry anymore. Neither one wanted to hold resentment for things neither one could control. As much as Ronan had wished, or wanted this to be the moment where they could all move on and be a proper family, they knew it would never happen. The possibility of that ever happening, was destroyed the day they became Hargreeves' kids. None of them had a chance, and that was the messed up part. They were all just kids, and got fucked over in more ways than one before they even knew what was really going on. And even Ronan hated every god damn moment of it.
"I'm glad, Sven...I, I don't want to be angry anymore either. Even if none of mine was aimed towards you. I'm tired of, holding onto things that need to be let go...So, I'm glad we...That we can agree on that." they gave Sven a small smile for a moment, pausing for a few moments more. What were they even doing? They needed to justify any of this but, here they were. Ronan was only able to guess all of these things were coming out, was because of how they were. Always an open and honest person. Even when at times they probably shouldn't be. However naive and at times ignorant Ronan was, they were honest to their core. Even after exploring the world and seeing some of the more less than kind things humanity had to offer, even if it weren't as bad as the things that Hargreeves did, Ronan never let it corrupt them or change how they viewed things. Whether it was through rose tinted glasses, or their genuine naivety, Rona was unapologetically themselves, in every way. That wasn't going to change.
Ronan's brows furrowed for a moment as they thought, "Yeah uhm..." Ronan cleared their throat as they walked over to the doors that faced out onto the lake. Peering out for a moment, turning back to Sven as they continued, "After I...After I left, I sorta got wrapped up in some stuff and, been on the road with some friends that I met a few years back." Ronan combed through their hair with their fingers, pausing for a moment before chuckling briefly. "Wasn't what I had planned but, it's kept me busy. I uhm, actually just flew back from The Netherlands. It's where me and the others were, sort of live there when not..working, I guess?" their voice rose for a moment, indicating that they didn't even really know what they were trying to get at. "Kind of just, go wherever the wind takes us, I suppose. See what happens, and go from there. I dunno, it's not for everyone but...I like it." they shrugged rather innocently, fidgeting with their hands as they looked down. They didn't exactly like talking about their form of work, even if it wasn't something to be ashamed about. Ronan just didn't want to sound like they were bragging, seeing as they weren't. It was just, an odd thing to talk about for them. They hadn't really thought about it all until being back here. How any of this happened, was just about anyone's guess.
Ronan turned to look back at Sven, "Well uhm...'nuff about me. How uhm...Well, what have you been up to, Sven? I'm sure you have enough stories of your own." Ronan smiled innocently enough at them.
