Introduction

In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars.

From the burning embers of London's East End - there rose a dynasty. For six years the second world war stretched across the continents; from Europe to the Pacific, millions died, countless suffered. Londoners endured the blitz, facing the fearsome firepower of Hitler's bombs as they reigned down upon slumbering families in the depth of night. When the men returned, little was familiar; streets they once roamed with confident treads, now desolate and flanked with piles upon piles of rubble and a littering of burnt and shattered memories of the families that once called this town home. The Earle family were but one example. As Richard Earl and his sons returned from war, little remained of the life they once knew; they were a family of decent means, thanks to Richard's tenacity, intellect and arguably, his lack of morals. Before the war, he had begun to taste success with various and questionable business ventures across the city; war had been an unwanted distraction, yet one that he and his sons endured, all the sake of duty. The Blitz saw the destruction of many of his warehouses and lack of leadership saw many of the others fall into disarray - it would seem that the workings of Richard Earle's empire had crumbled, but Earles never gave up, they had always been stubborn bastards. Fortune smiled upon the family once more when the widow of their once rival offered to sell her late husbands distillery for a very reasonable price and a one-way ticket to America. Piece by piece, Richard Earle worked tirelessly to rebuild what they once that, only this time, he wanted more. He wanted a dynasty; a family business to down down to his sons and grandsons - he wanted London. Today, Earle is a feared yet respected name on the streets of London's East End; they seemingly run it all - the bookies, the whores, the liquor...hell, even the local bobbies are bought off in their droves. Yet there is a fable, one that serves as a constant threat to the Earle family; the higher ther climb, the harder the fall, and don't be fooled, there are many who wish to see the fall of this family.

Some of the FC may be negotiable for canon characters, but please talk to me about it first. All must have FC's of real people, no anime and please try and use people with historical face claims.
  • RESERVATIONS/APPLICATIONS: You may reserve a character for up to 24 hours and after that an application must be submitted or the role will once again be open up. I reserve the right to decline any application, just because you reserve a character doesn't automatically make them yours. You are welcome to embellish the application anyway you wish too, but please ensure that all the information I have included is present.
  • ACTIVITY/POSTING: I perfectly understand that people have lives outside of RP, I myself am at university so I am extremely busy a lot of the time. But I do ask that people post at least twice a week to keep the RP going at a steady pace and I encourage people to post in the OOC and engage with other members to develop plots etc. Any absence that spans 7 days will result in your role being opened up once again; if you know that you will be gone longer for an extended period of time but want to keep your role then please let me know and I shall gladly put you on a hiatus.

DIALOUGUE #4386A5

Elizabeth adored Bowdens; their pastries were a firm favourite of both her and her daughter, Charlotte - especially the eclairs. Often would mother and daughter find themselves seated upon the crimson leather, fine bone china laid out before them upon pristine tablecloths; it was a world away from what she had been use to as a child, yet it was an experience she gifted her daughter with pride and amusement to see Lottie act like such a little lady. Today, however, her retreat to the tea rooms wasn't so much a jolly excursion as it was the desperate attempt to curb some boredom. Only a few weeks prior, Lizzie had discovered that she was once again pregnant. Naturally, the new elated both her and James; Lizzie loved motherhood, there could be no doubt over the devotion she had for her family - but, Elizabeth was not born to be just a housewife and mother. She was an intelligent woman with some genuinely good ideas, she would be a credit to the family business not a hindrance and yet, here she was, reduced to the image of her own mother.

To be perfectly honest, none of that was fair. Alas, pregnancy hormones weren't exactly her friend at this time and often they lead to irrational thoughts and utterances. It didn't take long for the guilt to overwhelm her, however, especially when her frustrations were directed toward her husband. Lizzie had been lucky in love, she had married a man who loved her as fiercely as she loved him; there was no doubt in her mind that James was indeed her soulmate, should you believe in such things. He had never once attempted to hold her back or dominate her - they were equals in everything and Lizzie adored him all the more for it. To some extent, she could understand his reluctance in letting her get more involved within the business; it could be incredibly dangerous and it wasn't just herself that she had to look out for, it was Charlotte and their unborn child too. But Elizabeth needed something - anything to stop her from going stir crazy! Even if it was just the chance to go over their books.

"Mummy, are you listening to me? I asked you a question." Charlotte may have been young, but she knew her own mind and knew how to articulate just exactly what she wanted - in this instance, it was the attention of her far-away mother. Upon hearing her daughters voice, Lizzie shook her grumblings from her thoughts and turned her attentions to her daughter with a sympathetic glimmer. "I'm sorry, sweetheart. What did you ask me?" She responded warmly, reaching over to wipe a bit of chocolate from the corner of the girls mouth. "I was asking about the baby, whether it would be a boy or a girl - I would prefer a sister." Oh how Lizzie was bemused by that. "Would you now? Well, we'll just have to wait and see won't we, darling? But no matter what the baby is going to be, I think you are going to make an excellent big sister. Daddy and I both think so." Charlotte seemed contented by that and returned to her eclair, leaving Lizzie to admire her eldest - she certainly took after them both, a fact which simultaneously filled her with both pride and dread. Heaven know what she would be like in her teenage years; she would be a trouble maker, Lizzie could sense it.

Lifting the ornate teapot, the brunette replenished both of their, equally beautiful, tea cups, before adding a little milk and sugar to both. Only then did she note the figure heading towards them, and with a raised brow Lizzie peered down her nose at them, a nasty habit she had whence plagued by a foul mood."Will you be joining us then?"

Dialogue: #780000

James turned his neck from side to side as he drove to Bowden's to meet Elizabeth and Charlotte for lunch. After a frustrating morning at work, he was looking forward to some downtime with his two favorite girls.

The knuckles of his right hand were already bruising slightly. They had a little misunderstanding with one of their delivery men, and naturally, Jimmy had to rough him up a bit. In the Earle family business, there was no room for mistakes. So they had to make sure that they kept their men in line. He would be lying if he said that he didn't enjoy the physical aspect of his job. He was a boxer, after all. However, that didn't mean that dealing with these situations was easy for him, they often left him tense and stressed out. That was why he was happy to have the much needed break.

Parking his car and entering the restaurant James began to wonder if Elizabeth was still mad at him. Before he went to work this morning, they had gotten into an argument. The exact same argument they have been having since they found out that she was pregnant again. She wanted to do more with the business, and he wasn't having it.

James had never held her back from doing what she wanted. She was a strong and highly capable woman, but the family business was dangerous. Honestly, he didn't want her to have any part in it before her pregnancy and now that she was carrying his unborn child, he was putting his foot down. The safety of his family was his number one priority, and he wouldn't put his wife in harms way.

The problem is that Elizabeth was just as stubborn as he was and she would not let it go. He loved the woman more than life itself, but damn did she know how to push his buttons. Despite his slight irritation with her, Jimmy had picked up a bouquet of flowers for her before coming to meet her as well as a box of Charlotte's favorite chocolates. His anger never lasted long where Lizzie was concerned and admittedly, she had him wrapped around her finger. Now he had to suck up to her and hope that she had forgotten about their spat this morning.

Upon spotting the two of them, he walked towards the table with a bright smile on his face, holding the gifts behind his back. "Will you be joining us then?" The nasty tone that his wife had greeted him with, stopped him dead in his tracks. She had not forgotten.

After handing the chocolates to a very delighted Charlotte, he looked to her mother. "C'mon Lizzie, don't tell me you're still cross with me. You know how I hate it when we fight." Getting down on one knee, he presented the flowers to her with a lopsided smile. "Forgive me?" To help his case, he pressed his lips to her cheek and traced a path of kisses to her ear. "Don't make me beg." He whispered huskily.

Moving his head back to look at her directly, he tried to gauge her reaction. With Lizzie, it was impossible to know what she was thinking.

DIALOGUE #4386A5

Elizabeth watched her husband with a cool air of indifference, at least, such was the emotion her stern countenance portrayed. Despite the warmth that swelled her heart, watching father and daughter Elizabeth would not allow her poker face to show even the glimmer of a fracture; she was too proud or stubborn (dependant on ones view point) to allow such sentiments from getting in the way of what she wanted - more responsibility, and not even the beautiful bouquet of her favourite posies could sway her. One thing that did come close, however, was that stupid lopsided simper of his and the flurry of kisses pressed along her sculptured jaw.

"C'mon Lizzie, don't tell me you're still cross with me. You know how I hate it when we fight." Frankly, she hated it too and yet their similar temperaments often laid the groundworks for a spectacular argument - it was partly one of the reasons why their relationship held such intensity."Forgive me? ...Don't make me beg." Her brow piqued at that and her crimson nails, ceased their repetitive pattern upon the table as she turned slightly in her seat and gazed down at him. "Perhaps I shall make you beg." She paused, her gaze searching his own before the ghost of a smirk tugged upon her lips. Leaning down, Lizzie placed a lingering kiss upon his cheek before whispering,"...later, on your knees." As the brunette pulled away, her countenance had brightened tenfold, an easy smile now steadfast upon her features. Half the fun of fighting with Jimmy was making up with him, whether that be in the privacy of their bedroom or the car...even a closet from time to time. She shifted along, making room for him in the booth and although she highly doubted for one moment that this was the final nail within the coffin of the argument, she was willing to let is settle in favour of luncheon with her favourite people.

Her hand slipped into his and with a gentle squeeze, her other brought the bouquet upwards so that she could savour the aroma."Thank you for my flowers, darling, they're beautiful." A kiss was placed to his freshly shaven cheek as she leant into his embrace, before her gaze slipped towards their daughter."What do you say to your father, Lottie?" The young girl looked up from the box, beaming brightly as she slipped from her seat and clambered up onto her father's lap; small arms flung around his neck tightly. "Thank you daddy, they're my favourite. Although, you didn't have too, I wasn't mad at you, only mummy was."

Elizabeth smoothed down Charlottes curls with gentle strokes and gave a gentle chuckle,"That's because you're daddy's special girl, my love." She spoke fondly whilst reaching for her cup and saucer."How was your morning, love?"

DIALOGUE: #40FF00

He walked behind her a couple of steps. Even with her speeding up, he had to slow down to stay behind her. He could feel the anger radiating off her like a bomb waiting to explode. Leon knew he was the target. Yet, he couldn't help but admire the view from back here. A roguish smiled pulled up one side of his lips, enthralled by the site of her rear in that tight dress. He followed as if he were the snake and she the charmer.

Nevertheless, he needed to snap out of it. He was in a very precarious position. The silence from her made it all the more deadlier. He ran a hand through his thick hair and sighed in frustration. What had he done?! He didn't even know what she was punishing him for. But clearly, he had done something.

Leon Earle wasn't a Godly man yet he sent up a silent prayer for what he was about to do. Start World War III with his wife. That too in the middle of the street because he just couldn't take the silent treatment from his wife anymore. Not that they prescribed to the rules of discretion when it came to their tiffs. The street was as good a place as home.

"Ava. Stop." Leon called out. Taking her arm in a tight grip, whipping her around to face him knowing she wouldn't do as she was bayed. "Can you at least tell me what I've done this bloody time woman?!"

It seemed he couldn't do anything right these days. It was only very recently his wife had completely lost her mind. She had over the last month or two turned into a demented harping bitch. He loved her but he couldn't take much more of this. He didn't need any stress at home, he had enough with his business. Yet, he knew where this was going. It was going the way all their discussions did. A blazing row.

Her face was a picture. When she was like this all Leon wanted to do was kiss her. And strangle her. Simultaneously. Whenever, she was angry with him it reminded him of their wedding day. Standing up at the alter with a strange girl he had barely spoken two words to with that exact look on her face. Of course when the vicar had declared them man and wife, he had kissed her senseless and wiped that look of her face. These days however, it wasn't that easy.

"I've got," Leon looked down at his watch hissing slightly. "an hour and a bit to get down to Kent, pick up the shipment to make it back for dinner tonight. So you gonna tell me why you're being bang out of order to me or would you prefer I spend the night in Calais or what darlin'?"

This would not end well was all Leon could think.

An irrational rage boiled in Ava's stomach as she strutted down the street, two steps ahead of her pig-headed husband. She knew he was just walking slow to appease her, which only infuriated her more. He should try walking around London in heels! That waitress's face still burned her eyes, like the smoke from a fire made with damp wood. She tried to send him messages silently, to make him understand how his actions made her feel, but even Leon was oblivious to the minds of women.

"Ava, stop."

His hand latched onto her arm and she resisted the urge to slap him when he spun her around. Arguing in public wasn't an unusual occurrence with them, but slapping him? Oh, the gossip that would bring. "Can you at least tell me what I've done this bloody time woman?!"

She wanted to scream at him, punch him, and cry. Most importantly, she really wanted to cry. But she kept her expression schooled and her face the picture of beautiful rage.

"I've got..." Leon glanced down at his watch and made a hissing sound that set her nerves on edge. "An hour and a bit to get down to Kent, pick up the shipment to make it back for dinner tonight. So you gonna tell me why you're being bang out of order to me or would you prefer I spend the night in Calais or what darlin'?"

Oh, how she wanted him to do that. To humiliate him for what he did. To make him pay for being the asshole that he was. But Ava hated being alone in their giant, creaking house at night and Leon knew that. He knew that threatening to spend the night somewhere else would force her hand. She ripped her arm out of his grip and glared at him, crossing her arms over her chest. "Stop acting so innocent, Leon. You know what you did," her anger wavered and she bit on the inside of her cheek, hard. "You were flirting with that pretty waitress, right in front of me. Like I wasn't even-"

Her voice cracked and she just wanted to bawl her eyes out, right there in the streets. Lord, she was so angry a moment ago, but now she was just sad. Did her husband not love her anymore? Was that damn waitress really prettier than her? "Like I wasn't even there," she finished, her voice tight as she turned away.

For Henry, a walk back from the family distillery was usually a joyful occasion. The sweet smell of whiskey aging gracefully in the finest wooden barrels was the equivalent of fresh backed cookies to the youngest Earle. A happy day soon turned to dread as Henry walked by a dark alley. It was a sunny day in London, but sudden corners can be shroud in shadows. Arms reached out and grabbed him! His mouth was covered before he could let out any noise. A punch to his stomach and face caused him to lose his breathe. His eyes couldn't identify his attackers due to the bandanas covering their mouths. While Henry is in prime physical condition, fighting was never a strength of his. His father was always disappointed by that fact.

"You need to keep your nose out of things, kid." Ah... Henry was investigating a possible forced prostitution ring by a large, but unorganized, gang. He was getting close to finding the head of the group. Henry understood women who did what they had to to support their family, but forcing women to do that was not something Henry could ignore.

"I will not submit to you." A dangerous thing to say when clearly outnumbered, but Henry's father would rather him to lose badly than to give in. He would do anything to have his father see him as success.

One of the two men's fist connected with his right eye. Henry grinded his teeth, tensing up though it did nothing to ease the pain. The sound of a gun cocking made Henry begin too silently plea to any god that could be listening. The prayers must've been answered as the blows to his body ceased. Upon opening his eyes, the gods out there must have a flawed sense of humor. The stone cold face of Stephen Hampton was, almost, not scary any more. A worker for his father, the muscle seemed to be more like a babysitter for the baby of the Earle family. Whenever Henry was in a situation such as this one, Stephen appeared suddenly. Henry's attackers looked ready to run as Stephen's guns was held to both of their heads. Henry tried to meet Stephen's eyes.

"It's not worth it. Let them go." Unlike his father and brothers, Henry has no blood on his hands. IT still made him innocent, something he despised about himself. The terrifying man before him was considered the devil by his enemies. A sudden grin crossed his bruised face, a picture example of a light bulb going off in his head.

"Perhaps I shall make you beg." Jimmy's brows raised as hers had. His eyes going heavy lidded from the lingering kiss she laid upon his cheek. "...later, on your knees." He let out a low growl at Elizabeth's whispered words, wanting to ravish her on the table right now. If it wasn't for Charlotte and all the people around them, he would have.

His smile matched hers as she moved to let him join her in the booth. He was glad to see Lizzie in brighter spirits as it was impossible for him to be happy when she didn't feel similarly. As soon as James seated himself beside his wife, his arm automatically wrapped around her, drawing her close. Elizabeth had slid her hand into his, giving it a squeeze, and James did the same. He watched her adoringly as she raised the bouquet of flowers to her nose. "Thank you for my flowers, darling, they're beautiful." she said giving him a kiss on the cheek in thanks.

"Anything for you, love." He responded, kissing the top of her head. He listened as she questioned Charlotte. "What do you say to your father, Lottie?" His beautiful girl got out of her seat to crawl onto his lap and throw her arms around his neck. With the arm that wasn't around his wife, he hugged his daughter to him. "Thank you daddy, they're my favorite. Although, you didn't have too, I wasn't mad at you, only mummy was." Both James and Elizabeth laughed at that. He thought it was funny that she knew why he had gotten her mom flowers. Lizzie smoothly replied with, "That's because you're daddy's special girl, my love."

Nodding in response to his wife's words, he released Charlotte from his hold to look at her. "You're my little Lottie, remember?" he said. When she nodded and smiled up at him he lightly tickled her side causing her to go into a fit of giggles. Once he stopped, she moved from his lap to sit by his side instead. His attention moved from his daughter to his wife when she asked him how his morning was.

"It was fine. There was a problem with one of our delivery boys that I had to handle, but other than that, work was uneventful." Jimmy moved the arm that he had wrapped around her to where he could rest his hand on the outside of her thigh, his thumb gently moving back and forth in a soothing pattern. "I didn't have to deal with Leon though, so that was nice."

James leaned his forehead against Elizabeth's head as he breathed her in. "God Lizzie, I wish we could have the rest of the day to ourselves, just the two of us." He knew that wasn't going to happen, but he wished it would. "We never seem to get much time alone anymore."

Stephen was the best of the best. If you needed a threat to be beaten to pulp, you called him. If you need an interrogation and didn't care about a pesky thing called morality, you called Stephen. If you needed a body hidden, you called Stephen L. Hampton. Therefore, the reason he was following some troublesome college student was beyond him. Henry Earle wasn't just any college student though. The youngest child of the notorious Earle family needed 'protection.' Whoever was foolish enough to think the youngest was the way to defeat the family was crazy.

Seeing the two arms reach out to grab the kid didn't put Stephen into fighting mode... yet. The youngest was worthless despite his obvious wanting to be involved in his family's business. Kids like him aren't meant to be in this life. Jonathan would never be involved in a life like this. A life that took away the one person he cared for more than anything. Stephen balled his fist, digging his nails into his skin. 'Must not think of it now.'

Drawing out his two pistols, Stephen casually walked over to the two attackers. The two men froze when the cold, metal nozzle of his Smith and Wesson 38 special met their temples. An evil grin crossed Stephen's face. Having the power to control someone's life was sweeter than any candy. Glancing at the youngest Earle, Stephen saw the boy has the beginning of a black eye, split lip, and several bruises. The boss would be upset with him for not acting sooner. Not like it was his fault, he should've taught the kid how to defend himself. Another thing that made Stephen better than that family: he actually spent time with his kid. Though he only has one, Stephen wouldn't show favoritism like the old man.

"It's not worth it. Let them go." The kid's response only pissed Stephen off more.

"They hurt you and you want to let them go? Stupid child."

Normally, Stephen would've blown their brains out and have hidden the bodies by now. It was what he would prefer to do. However, his parents were strict about keeping their youngest away from any unnecessary violence. Stephen still has to follow orders while their in charge. Not for long with his plan.

"Get out of my sight or my bullets will be the least of your worries."

The two men high tailed it out of the alley, leaving Stephen with the kid. He pulled out a cigarette and light it. Looking down at the kid, a irksome grin crossed his face. 'Oh no... more trouble.'

"That grin better be of gratitude. Your ass will be in more pain if you say anything smart."

Leon stared at Ava for a long, LONG moment. The look upon his face, completely and utterly dumbfounded. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. And if she began crying . . . A disbelieving laugh escaped him. She was too surreal. This woman that he wanted to throttle the life out!

"Okay, okay, okay," Leon started plaintively. "So let me get this right." He laughed without humor. "I took YOU out- no. No, no, no, no." Shaking his head. "I asked you to come out to lunch WITH me. I ASKED you. To lunch right? So I could go there, get a bit of nosh like and then flirt with the FUCKING waitress IN FRONT of my wife?!" At the rising altitude of his anger, Leon's voice grew louder and louder with each passing word until he was booming at her. "Are you out of your FUCKING mind woman?!"

She'd pushed him to this! After weeks of not so silently enduring Ava's wrath it had all come to ahead. He loved the damn woman but by God she was an absolute fucking nightmare when she got like this. Inconsolable and accusing. He couldn't lie, sure the waitress was pretty and she was giving him those eyes but Ava knew better. They were both exceedingly good looking people. Ridiculous good looking people. However, he wasn't fucking out of his mind that he'd take her out and flirt with a flippin' waitress!

"Jesus Christ! I wish someone had fucking told me I was marrying insane fuckin' of her rocker Miss Marple! You wanna go investigate a murder now seeing as you've solved the mystery of the flirting waitress yeah love? You know, seeing as her taking my fuckin' order is flirting. You know if it was up to you darlin' I wouldn't even be allowed to see or talk to my own mother!"

Every word dripped in morbid sarcasm. She belonged in the fucking nut house, Leon thought in his rage. Course women looked at him! Was he to hold that against them?! Hell! He knew men looked at his wife and he sure as hell couldn't blame them! He found it hard not to look at her. But as long as that was all they did. Look. He had no problem. Yet, the thought of another man touching her, well, that boiled his blood. Good thing was, most men knew that if they wanted to continue breathing, they wouldn't so much as pass her a glass. But that was neither here or there right now.

"I tell you what love, how about yeah? I just don't talk to any woman that's not you-better yet, I won't even look up at another woman yeah? You do all the talking for the both of us from now on? How's that sound? Suit ya?"
