How. How was that a difficult question, it was a yes or no question. Seriously? Gabe would pout a bit after Jay told him to ease up on the alcohol. He had very well known he got over-affectionate when he drank, his friends still refused to let go of the tree hugging incident, but he didn't think anything of it. He was still focused on how saying yes or no, was a difficult question to answer? He was just wondering what made him lose his best friend. With a sigh, Gabe would keep his head rested on Jay's head, and would speak "Why's it difficult?
The brunet asked, his blue eyes moving towards Jay's direction, not making eye contact but staring at him. He knew this was awkward, and he didn't know what encouraged him to bring the subject up. But he did, and he was looking for the truth. He was simply looking for his best friend. He would take another swig from the bottle, and would wait for the boy to muster a reasonable answer.
"You can be honest with me Jay, you know this....right? I'm not going to judge you."
"Why's it difficult? Jay squeezed his eyes shut and let out a small sigh. He knew Gabe would press him until he was satisfied with an answer, but Jay was still conflicted on revealing the truth. "It just is Gabe, I don't know why you don't understand that" He stated not in a malicious manner but one of desperation, he just wish that Gabriel would drop the damn topic.
"You can be honest with me Jay, you know this....right? I'm not going to judge you." Jay rolled his head to look over at Gabriel his eyes filled with curiosity and almost a little bit of sadness. It suddenly hit Jay that Gabriel had gone years not even knowing why Jay had just fallen off the face of the earth. They had been best friends and then Jay cut him off, God he must think I'm the biggest ass on the earth. "I know, its just - not - I don't want, god" Jay let out a frustrated breath and clasped his hands together to keep him distracted.
"When you came out, I- I was fine. Gabe I didn't give a damn, you could've said anything and I wouldn't have cared. We were best friends. My father on the other hand - he wasn't as opened minded and he-" Jay got caught in his words, he didn't want to finish the sentence, he couldn't finish the sentence. When Jay had protested that night, after his father told him he couldn't speak to Gabriel again, his father had gone on a rampage. The minute the first form of a complaint came out of Jay's mouth his father backhanded him so hard across the face he saw spots in his vision. He remembered hiding in his closet that night, he couldn't sleep because he was so afraid his father was going to kill him. It's the reason why he chose to obey what his dad said. He was scared, and he didn't want the same for Gabriel. "I didn't want you to get hurt" He spoke quietly staring intently at his hands, the tips of his ears turning red partly from shame. He never wanted to tell anyone this, he was so afraid of what would happen, what his father would do to him if he told anyone.

Okay, this was definitely the alcohol talking through Gabriel's emotional state. Putting the bottle down he let Jay go and sat up, tears starting to form. An emotional mess was a highly accurate term for Gabriel's current mood. He would lay back down on the couch and sigh. He would take the remote and turn on the television randomly surfing the channels. There was an underlying feeling that things were being withheld. But he shrugged. Taking the bottle of patron, he would take a big swig of it, and finally place his channel on an old episode of the Simpsons. He giggled at the television for a short moment, but would then remember his purpose of the conversation. Looking towards Jay, he would tilt his head. And for sure, the alcohol would have taken over his mentality.
"Thank you....you might sometimes hate me, but....but that's okay. Because I love you no matter what, and that's all that matters. Because friendship is the best thing."
The male would speak, before nodding off, he would begin to sleep. His breathing slowed as he curled up on the couch directly next to Jay. He was going to have a hell of a hangover on Saturday tomorrow.
There was another slight pause between the two in which Gabe took the time to take another drink and turn on the tv. Jay could tell that the alcohol was slowly getting to him. He wondered for a moment if it was because of what was said, maybe it was all too much at once. "Thank you....you might sometimes hate me, but....but that's okay. Because I love you no matter what, and that's all that matters. Because friendship is the best thing." Jay shifted his body to look at the slightly buzzed boy. "Gabe, I'll never hate you, don't say that. I love you too, nothing can split us apart, not anymore" He said quietly.
They both just soaked in the quietness of the apartment after that, and when Jay opened his mouth to speak again he noticed that Gabe was sound asleep. A small smile crossed his face as Gabe was peacefully snuggled into one of the pillows on the couch. Jay quietly got up off the couch and turned the tv off, not wanting to wake up Gabriel. He grabbed one of the soft throw blankets and covered Gabe up, tucking the covers into sleeping form. Jay subconsciously went to smooth the boy's dark hair out of his face, but stopped a couple inches from his forehead. His hand hovered there for a moment before he took it back, and half-heartedly tip toed into his room. He slipped under the covers and let out a big sigh. It felt like a little bit of pressure was lifted off his chest after being a little honest with Gabe. He spent a couple minutes staring at the ceiling before he drifted asleep.

His face would shrink into the blanket covering his body closer, as he would grab the remote and turn on the television. Eventually landing on a cooking show, startling his hunger. But honestly, he didn't really think he wanted to get up. With another clash of thunder, Gabriel would jump and dig deeper into the blanket wrapping himself. Not wanting to call for Jay, but hoping the male came out.
Jay awoke to the rumbling sound of thunder and the light pattering of rain. The light pouring into the windows was still rather dim so he concluded that it was probably still early in the morning. He tossed and turned a bit not really wanting to get up, but he couldn't fall back asleep. The faint sound of the tv eventually captured his attention, Gabe must be up. They had a rather nice heart-to-heart last night, for Jay things almost felt normal for a bit. He truly didn't realize how much he missed Gabe's friendship and secretly hoped they could build things back to the way they once were.
He slipped out of the bed still a little tired and slowly opened his bedroom door. He walked into the little living room, his vision limited, only by the light of the tv. He shuffled over to the kitchen and opened the fridge grabbing a bottle of water to sip on. He turned his head back to the couch but could only see Gabe's small form wrapped in blankets.
He made his way over to the couch making sure to taker softer steps and not be as loud. "Gabe? Are you up?" He murmured quietly, rubbing his eyes as he cocked his head to the side. He was quiet because he didn't want to wake the boy up in the first place.

Sticking his head out, Gabriel would nod, as he watched the Simpsons. He honestly, wished his cat Samhain, was there the feline always seemed to calm him down during thunderstorms and things of the such. Gabriel didn't really know where the fear came from, therapists seemed to be baffled by it. But it seemed like a few years before Jay and Gabriel fell apart, he developed the fear. "Y-Yeah I'm up. The storm woke me." the brunet boy spoke with a slight stammer. He would look up at Jay, offering a spot on the couch.
He would move over slightly, trying to focus on the television, rather than the sounds of thunder. The rain he never seemed to mind, but the loud clashing of thunder always seemed to scare him. He would smile slightly to Jay, and begin to channel surf aimlessly trying to find something.

Jay laughed quietly as Gabe popped his head out from the cocoon of blankets that he was wrapped in. "Y-Yeah I'm up. The storm woke me." It suddenly dawned on Jay that Gabriel was afraid of the thunder, he had been ever since they were little. Jay used to build them a little blanket fort and force Gabe to help him with his homework to get his mind off of the storms. He focused back on Gabe who scooted over to offer him a spot on the couch.
Jay settled himself next to Gabe and focused his attention back on the tv, the light rather harsh in the dark living room. It was a little awkward for a moment, Jay was always a terrible conversation starter when it came to awkward conversations. Another clap of thunder shook the apartment and he felt Gabe flinch next to him. It was subconscious. Or at least that's what he told himself. He slowly wrapped a careful arm around the boy's shoulders in a comforting manner, tugging him closer slightly. 'That's what friends do', He thought to himself, 'comfort each other. This isn't awkward if you don't make it awkward Castle.'

Gabriel's face flushed red as he would feel Jay's arm shifting him closer to him, and he would feel oddly safe. He remembered when they were children, and Jay spent the first night over during a thunderstorm. He remembered how Jay helped him build a fort, and they hid in there watching some cartoon they were fond of. The two would sit there huddled in the fort and knew nothing of what people had thought. Since then, Gabe had been forced to deal with them alone. His elder siblings helped often, but when they weren't there he relied on his cat. He felt comfort in Jay's arms, knowing this was simply a friend helping a friend. But honestly, he didn't want to be anywhere else. He was comfortable in the quiet...oddly.
With thunder shaking the apartment every now and then, he would flinch slightly, but as it went on he became less and less concerned with his own fear. He was becoming more concerned with him and Jay. He would occasionally look up at the male, and would begin to speak. "I'm hungry, wanna make some food with me?"

The longer the two sat together on the couch, the more at ease Jay became. It just started to feel normal, like old times. He shifted his attention more on the tv as it helped him forget a little bit of the awkwardness that still remained between the two of them. Gabe was the first one to break the silence between the two of them. "I'm hungry, wanna make some food with me?" Jay looked down at him, raising a slight eyebrow, "hmm... Oh yeah, of course". He removed his arm back around Gabe's neck and stood up slowly. His back popped in response and he groaned quietly, "Practice is going to be a bitch next week".
He shuffled into the kitchen and rubbed his eyes slightly turning back to Gabe. "Hey erhm... can this cooking excursion involve your amazing chocolate chip pancakes... I missed those so damn much" A hint of a smile showed across his face but was temporarily broken by a yawn. He slowly started to get stuff out of the cabinets a couple memories flooding back to him, "Gabe remember when I tried to make a grilled cheese and nearly burned your house down?" He paused to let out a small chuckle, "your mom wouldn't let me near the kitchen for a whole week".

"She was more concerned about her curtains than your burning down the house." he spoke with a laugh, before grabbing one of the very colorful mixing bowls. He would reach across from him before taking the Bisquick and pouring a decent amount in there. Gabriel never really followed directions when it came to cooking. He just went with what he felt, and it commonly worked out better than most people would assume. He would begin to hum a certain song that he and Jay would know with an ease, Gabriel went through a phase of absolutely loving Jesse McCartney, he would begin to sing the song as he would move around the kitchen.
Grabbing the small bag of dark chocolate chips, he would take it and pour the entire thing in the flour mix. Quickly adding milk, eggs, and just a slight addition of sugar. As he whisked the things together, he would sing aloud. "I don't want another pretty face, I don't want just anyone to hold, I don't want my love to go to waste. I want you and your beautiful soul. You're the one I want to chase, You're the one I want to hold." he would fade into humming as he would continuously stir the batter.

"She was more concerned about her curtains than your burning down the house." Jay let out a small snort remembering how crazy Mrs. Shurley was about her decorative curtains. "I honestly think burning those things down would do everyone a favor. They were atrocious".
He watched as Gabe started the process of making perhaps Jay's favorite pancakes. Jay was never any good at cooking, so he always resorted to watching Gabriel over his shoulder. He was pretty sure the boy called it, 'helicopter cooking' when they were younger. Occasionally sneaking a chocolate chip from the bag, he propped himself up on the counter watching Gabe throw a bunch of different ingredients into a bowl.
When Gabe began to sing, a small smile showed on Jay's face. The Musician. Gabriel was always singing or playing his guitar, ever since they were small. Jay missed it a lot, there was never a silent moment between the two of them, it was always Jay's chatting of Gabriel's strumming. "It's nice to see you haven't lost your musical side" It was a small statement but true nonetheless.

"Hey! I helped pick those curtains, ass." he exclaimed interrupting his song as he would continue to hum the song an look towards Jay. Odd enough, Jay looked different to him now. Before he was Jay the pompous ass, and before that he was JJ the best friend and secret keeper. But now? Gabriel couldn't really tell you who Jay was to him. He knew he was his best friend again, and he hoped it wouldn't end. Turning on the stove he would set a pan down and place a small pat of butter on the atrociously neon orange pan. "It's nice to see you haven't lost your musical side," as he said that Gabriel would tilt his head. He would laugh nervously.
Before beginning to speak he would ladle a spoonful of pancakes into the pan and watch it sizzle. "To be honest, after you and I stopped being friends. I briefly thought about giving it up. I didn't have my best friend, and you know Dad never really liked it. So, I sort of stopped for a month, but Mikey got upset and mom missed hearing my voice around the house. So I picked it back up, because of a picture. The final one we had taken before the summer of seventh grade. It sort of inspired me, that I always had that version of you, even if you hated me for who I was."he spoke with a soft smile, that sounded a lot less gay in his head. Oh well. His face was slowly turning red as he would flip the pancake, seeing it is a nice golden brown. He never really knew why, but that picture always helped him get past hard times. He only kept it face down once, and that was the day that Jay became a dick.
