Personality
Riye is what one would call an eccentric. Excitable, curious and sometimes thinking up ideas that are on the brink of being crazy. At the very least to other people. He tends to see things in a glass half full sort of situation, always looking to keep the peace and hopefully build bridge with politeness and charm. This is about 90% of his personality. The other 10% is a rather strange darkness that is somewhere between a simmering annoyance and a very cold and logical intelligence. This is when he gets serious and his charm and good cheer doesn't work and his power tends to be used here to their fullest. A controller of decomposition and hallucination make him rather scary when pushed to his emotional limits

Powers/Ablities
  • Fungus Manipulation: Riye can grow, move and shape any type of fungus to his will. At it's most basic; mushrooms, molds, yeasts and other types of fungus and be grown and shaped on his body or on nearby surfaces in the area.
  • Spore production: As a way to grow them, and infect things more on that later, Riye produces spore from within and breathes a maisma at will. Passively, he does still breathe spores and often times mushrooms grow where he is living at the time if there is poor air circulation.
  • Hallucination enduction: At his will, his spores or the fungus itself can cause those around him to fall into horrible trips as if they had eaten magic mushrooms without their notice. These last anywhere from an hour to days depending on how strong he wants them to be and how fast of a get away he needs.
  • Cordycep infestation: This is the most devastating and least used of his powers...on people for rather good reason. Riye can infect a person or animal with spores that MUST BE INGESTED with certain types of spores that result in a fungus fully taking over the body of the host leaving a walking corpse with all sorts of mushrooms growing out of it. Initial symptoms take 2 to 3 days to take effect and include chills, runny nose, headaches and fatigue. In ten days, the infected will have muscle spasms, pain in the head and eyes as if there is pressure in them, vomiting and frequent nose bleeds. In two weeks, the infected will be deceased and fungus will begin to bloom out of the subject, the corpse will rise and wander towards Riye's current location. This process can be stopped with Riye's assistance and depending on how far along the process is, the subject will either be vomiting Mycelium for an hour or Riye will have to pull the fungal threads from their orifices. No, it is not a pretty sight. In animals, this process is much shorter depending on the size of the animal. Ranging from a few days to a week depending but last much longer once the corpse is able to be controlled. The corpses themselves can be used for scouting and can be sent out to do various tasks or used to defend their master if he so chooses. Infected animal corpses can be identified by (on small animals) a single large mushroom on their back, (in larger animals) white fibers drooping from their mouths. All infected have white pupils eyes that look like to tops of button mushrooms.

    • Limitations: Like all fungus, Riye's powers work best in humid and damp environment. Winter months leave him completely useless if in an area where there is snow and cold unless he can get into a heated and damp as fungus goes dormant in the winter months. While he can defend himself with his fungus like weapons by hardening the "fruit", it is still rather soft and weapons like this often have a core of something harder. Infected human corpses, while not producing spores themselves, are very obvious once deceased and tend to freak people out as they grow more mold and fungus. Also, these corpses last about a month before they are unable to move and are left in the woods to rot away. He cannot sense anyone through said fungus unless it is directly touched or harmed in some way if it is on structure.

History
Riye was raised by his father in upstate new york in a town that had gone under due to the city factory closing down. While he was always chipper, he always had a facination with plants, or rather mushrooms. As he got older and his power started to form, he often used it to his advantage in ways that most wouldn't think. Like selling edible mushrooms very obviously out of season to his neigbors to help bring in some income for the family. It was when his father died suddenly where he truely found out the extent of his power. Before the funeral and before his body could be processed, his father showed back up to the house while he was alone but it wasn't the same. All kinds of fungus and mushrooms sprouted from his body. Because of this, and the fact that people saw the body wandering around outside, Riye left town after leaving the infected corpse in the woods to rest.

In the years after, he has wandered from town to town, only recently moving to Uncanny valley without a cult. While he was invited to join many, he feels like it would be better for people's health if he didn't join a cult. This has been the case for many of the towns he's been in so far as he has left a trail of rotting and used up corpses in his wake for various uses. Now settled in Uncanny valley, he isn't quite sure if he should join a cult or stay on his own. But it never hurts to put feelers out...isn't that what spores are for?

So begins...

A small cottage was good enough. A fixer upper that not a soul would notice in the outskirts but it was enough. Riye stood out on the porch of his new home, watching some deer in the sunset light as they ate the bait that he had let out. It was calm here for him. No one to be a bother and no one to burn him in a literal scene. It had only been a few days now and he noted that the beams were already starting to grow some lion's mane. Soon enough he would have a whole crop to take to market. And he would need the money soon. Without a cult he was on his own and winter was going to hinder him greatly.

The sounds of wildlife calmed him, but a smirk crawled across his face as his eyes gazed out toward the treeline. Three human...looking mounds of fungus wandered around. His puppets and first line of defense. Friendly brownies from him would do that to a person if they weren't careful.

"My dears, you surely do look pretty. Such a shame that you won't be free for too long after tonight. he mused as he wandered back inside and plopped on his couch. It was somewhat lonely sure. Having no others to talk with like in cults, but it was peaceful at the very least. Although he did wonder what it was like. He stretched himself out over the pillows and cushions as a small squirrel with a red mushroom cap scampered up his arm and came to rest on his chest as if it were a common pet. Riye giggled scratching the creature behind it's ears. "Find anything for me? Then again I doubt you can make it into town without scaring someone. That's fine, Maybe a swarm of rats would be better for recon." He deadeyed rodent seemed nod in agreement and scamper off while he covered his eyes with his arm and attempted to drift off.

Riye was restless, a bit too restless for once. Most of the time on days like this he would just sit back and relax with a video game or a book beside the fire...once it was fixed anyway. A fixer-upper that was a steal due to making the realtor trip while you signed to paper work was a beautiful thing. It was small, a cottage big enough to fit just him comfortably. No mushrooms growing in the house thankfully. Sometimes his own spores made it harder to breathe even for him. But the day was still young, that might be why he was restless. He mused, tapping his fingers together as he layed out on the couch he had bought from goodwill.

"The deck does need to be done. and so does the bedroom. Hmmm." He clicked his tongue as he rose from the couch. Maybe a fixer-upper wasn't the best thing to have, but then again it was near the cover of forests where mushrooms wouldn't be too noticeable. Still things needed to be done and will a few videos he could learn how to put tile up. Better to make your home than to take one he supposed.

The mushroom backed squirrel hopped onto his shoulder as he stood and gathered his bag. A walk on the town would clear his head a bit. Maybe bring back some tile for the walls over the sink. He gave a glance toward the shambling bodies as he walked off his porch towards town, watching them limp and walk over to the house and walk loops around them with clicking noises. No one would have the nerve to rob his home without being attacked by three infested. At least that's what he hoped for as he walked down the dirt road onto sidewalk.

It only took over an hour and a bit of hassle to come back toward his home again. The woman at the hardware store was rather difficult with him picking out tile. Asking if he was going to get plaster and pushing to buy more than he needed. It was the few things that annoyed him enough to give her a sweet. If she was going to that much of a bother, well it was curtains for that oud mouth. She'd have more use as foader in the next few weeks anyway.

The deer that had been feeding on the bait he had put out could be seen from the dirt road as he walked the path, they were looking sicker and sicker. Lathargic and looking wounded. It was only a matter of time. Not that he could say the same for some of the birds that perched themselves on nearby branches. White eyed and buds of mold on their bodies. Birds were always the fastest to turn. Eyes in the skies after all.

The human hosts, all sitting on the porch like they were waiting for Riye to return clicked at his arrival as if greeting him. Riye smiled and nodded to them. "Good boys. You guys can wander now. Keep yourselves hidden." He said as if they were his children. The clickers nodded, standing and shambling off as Riye walked inside and begin the work of retiling the bathroom. Just because he lived in the literal back woods, didn't mean that he had to live in a shabby shack.

All three of the fungus riddled corpses wandered off in different directions. One in particular, one that Riye had affectionately named "Vittla" wandered off into the trees. His head and eyes taken over by a rather large cluster of oyster mushrooms and the rest of him wasted away as the food of other edible mushrooms. This one was his walking farm. Chunks of cut stalks that were regrowing and clusters of other edible shrooms budded all over him. A very obvious sight for anyone wandering in the forest. Vittla shambled along a not so set path, wandering in large circles that lead back to the house and around again. Eventually he walked out toward the treeline, not noticing the difference in lighting, only clicking and hissing to find it's way around. It wandered along the treeline, stopping every now and again to listen for something and then move once again. It turned its head toward the farmhouse and barn, seemingly intrested but turned again. For it, it was time to return toward the house of its master. A slow and shambling walk towards home again.
