Mayelle is a tall young girl; at 13 years of age she is already 5'2" in height. She is slender, and her body is not quite fully developed yet. She has fair skin, almond-shaped brown eyes, and a light dusting of freckles across her cheeks. Her red hair is thick and curly and falls just above her elbows. Typically, Mayelle likes to wear trousers and simple blouse-style shirts, though she is quite partial to wearing dresses on a day when she doesn't have anything going on. As the child of a nomadic forest-dwelling tribe, she tends to go barefoot.
Personality:
Mayelle is an upbeat, friendly, joyful, lively child with a love for life. She's always smiling and loves to talk to people. She loves the outdoors and enjoys running around out in the woods. Mayelle is quite intelligent, and though she loves to read, she prefers only to do so for entertainment purposes. Mayelle is something of a daddy's girl, accustomed to being spoiled by her father and accustomed to having him override her mother whenever she'd get in trouble. His recent death has put something of a damper on her lively spirit.
History/Bio:
Mayelle is the daughter of Nyleria and Myrthal Therel, two elves from a nomadic elven tribe that wanders the woods. She was their second-born child, and with her conception came a number of difficulties for her mother. The pregnancy with Mayelle was a difficult one, with the healers fearing several times that they'd lose either the mother, the baby or both, but the tribe's healers managed to safely deliver Mayelle with the only complications being damage to her mother's body that the healers stated would likely prevent her from having any other children. Mayelle had an older brother, Orrian, who was three years older than her up until his recent death three years ago.
As a small child, Mayelle demonstrated a proficiency for reading, writing, and languages that had her mother wanting her to pursue a trade related to those activities. However, she also had a profound love for the outdoors and her father wanted her to pursue a more outdoorsy, physical trade such as woodcutting, hunting, or fishing. There were always tensions between her parents and Mayelle's uncertainty about what job she wanted to pursue only added to them. She never intended to add to the problems in her parents' marriage, but she also didn't want to end up unhappy.
When Mayelle was ten, her father and brother went missing. Being a daddy's girl, she was devastated. She helped her mother and the rest of the tribe to search for them, but they found no signs of them and eventually were forced to move on. Mayelle was broken up inside at losing her father and brother, though she tried to stay strong and make sure she held it together for when they returned. Eventually, her mother heard rumours in a town about where they were. Nyleria petitioned the council to let her go and seek them out, though she wouldn't tell her daughter where they were or what she'd heard. Mayelle was left with her grandparents while her mother went out in search of the men. Mayelle was excited to finally see them again, confident that her mother would find them and bring them back safely.
When Nyleria returned to the tribe, it was without Mayelle's father or brother. Nyleria informed the council and her daughter at the same time that her husband and son were dead and had been laid to rest in a human city. Mayelle was devastated to learn that her father and brother had ultimately wound up killing one another. Nyleria requested permission to take Mayelle back to the city with her so she could visit the resting place of her father and brother and mourn them appropriately, but the council was hesitant to agree. They were concerned because Myrthal's leaving with Orrian had resulted in both of their deaths, and they didn't want the same fate to befall Nyleria and Mayelle. The Therel name was one with rank in the tribe, so after losing Orrian, they were unwilling to lose Mayelle as well. It took a short while to convince them, time during which Nyleria grew increasingly anxious about leaving, but it ultimately came down to Mayelle to convince them. After speaking before the council about how she loved her father and her brother and how she wished to see their final resting places, and insisting that she'd trust her mother with her life and that she knew nothing would happen to her while they were away, the council finally granted them permission to leave and spend time mourning in the city where they'd been laid to rest. Little does Mayelle know that her mother has no intentions of returning to the tribe once they're gone.
