Kids just wanna have fun

Description

Image

| Name: Mayelle Therel | Gender: Female | Age: 13 | Species: Elf | Height: 5'2" | Weight: 136lbs | Sexuality: Straight |
| Hair colour: Red/orange | Eye colour: Green | Skin colour: Light | Job: Child |

Image Appearance:
Mayelle is a tall young girl; at 13 years of age she is already 5'2" in height. She is slender, and her body is not quite fully developed yet. She has fair skin, almond-shaped brown eyes, and a light dusting of freckles across her cheeks. Her red hair is thick and curly and falls just above her elbows. Typically, Mayelle likes to wear trousers and simple blouse-style shirts, though she is quite partial to wearing dresses on a day when she doesn't have anything going on. As the child of a nomadic forest-dwelling tribe, she tends to go barefoot.

Personality:
Mayelle is an upbeat, friendly, joyful, lively child with a love for life. She's always smiling and loves to talk to people. She loves the outdoors and enjoys running around out in the woods. Mayelle is quite intelligent, and though she loves to read, she prefers only to do so for entertainment purposes. Mayelle is something of a daddy's girl, accustomed to being spoiled by her father and accustomed to having him override her mother whenever she'd get in trouble. His recent death has put something of a damper on her lively spirit.

History/Bio:
Mayelle is the daughter of Nyleria and Myrthal Therel, two elves from a nomadic elven tribe that wanders the woods. She was their second-born child, and with her conception came a number of difficulties for her mother. The pregnancy with Mayelle was a difficult one, with the healers fearing several times that they'd lose either the mother, the baby or both, but the tribe's healers managed to safely deliver Mayelle with the only complications being damage to her mother's body that the healers stated would likely prevent her from having any other children. Mayelle had an older brother, Orrian, who was three years older than her up until his recent death three years ago.

As a small child, Mayelle demonstrated a proficiency for reading, writing, and languages that had her mother wanting her to pursue a trade related to those activities. However, she also had a profound love for the outdoors and her father wanted her to pursue a more outdoorsy, physical trade such as woodcutting, hunting, or fishing. There were always tensions between her parents and Mayelle's uncertainty about what job she wanted to pursue only added to them. She never intended to add to the problems in her parents' marriage, but she also didn't want to end up unhappy.

When Mayelle was ten, her father and brother went missing. Being a daddy's girl, she was devastated. She helped her mother and the rest of the tribe to search for them, but they found no signs of them and eventually were forced to move on. Mayelle was broken up inside at losing her father and brother, though she tried to stay strong and make sure she held it together for when they returned. Eventually, her mother heard rumours in a town about where they were. Nyleria petitioned the council to let her go and seek them out, though she wouldn't tell her daughter where they were or what she'd heard. Mayelle was left with her grandparents while her mother went out in search of the men. Mayelle was excited to finally see them again, confident that her mother would find them and bring them back safely.

When Nyleria returned to the tribe, it was without Mayelle's father or brother. Nyleria informed the council and her daughter at the same time that her husband and son were dead and had been laid to rest in a human city. Mayelle was devastated to learn that her father and brother had ultimately wound up killing one another. Nyleria requested permission to take Mayelle back to the city with her so she could visit the resting place of her father and brother and mourn them appropriately, but the council was hesitant to agree. They were concerned because Myrthal's leaving with Orrian had resulted in both of their deaths, and they didn't want the same fate to befall Nyleria and Mayelle. The Therel name was one with rank in the tribe, so after losing Orrian, they were unwilling to lose Mayelle as well. It took a short while to convince them, time during which Nyleria grew increasingly anxious about leaving, but it ultimately came down to Mayelle to convince them. After speaking before the council about how she loved her father and her brother and how she wished to see their final resting places, and insisting that she'd trust her mother with her life and that she knew nothing would happen to her while they were away, the council finally granted them permission to leave and spend time mourning in the city where they'd been laid to rest. Little does Mayelle know that her mother has no intentions of returning to the tribe once they're gone.

So begins...

Barynn had tears in her eyes when the throwing up stopped. Haera's gentle hand on her back was comforting, though, and she appreciated that the other woman had come in after her. She smiled a little bit when Haera commented that she cried and curled up whenever she threw up, and not to tell Istrain that. "I won't tell him," Barynn said in a small voice. She was becoming fond of Haera through Istrain, hearing so many great things about her and always enjoying her company when she did meet her. She had a feeling that something was brewing between Haera and Istrain, though she'd never dare say anything to either of them. "Lorelei, she's...the doctor, right? I can get Istrain to take me to see her at the end of the work day," she said softly, not wanting her sickness today to ruin her opening day. She knew that it was probably just nerves as Istrain had said earlier, and she had a feeling that seeing Luther hadn't helped it at all.

Istrain chuckled a bit when he heard Birger's comment. "Being hot does help, and you've got that covered for sure," he said before winking towards an attractive woman who'd just come in the door. "That's how Barynn does so well at selling jewelry when her people skills are so shit. Men come in to buy pretty things for their lady loves and Barynn's beautiful and she's quiet and the men really appreciate that. Gotta love a quiet, beautiful woman," he said, smirking a bit. Haera was anything but quiet, though that didn't stop him from lov--liking her. From liking her. He was fond of Haera. As a friend. Nothing more. He shrugged away the thoughts that came to mind and turned his attention instead towards the customer that had just entered.

"You didn't tell me there were going to be dragons here," Mayelle said. The young redhead was walking through the streets of the city, holding on to her mother's hand and carrying an overnight bag in her other hand. Ever since arriving, her brown eyes had been wide with amazement and her wild head of curls bounced with each step she took. She'd never been very far into a human settlement, and Nyleria was sure it was overwhelming for the young girl.

"I didn't tell you a lot of things, honey," Nyleria replied with a smile. "But don't worry. You'll enjoy it here."

"I thought we were just here to visit...you know..." Mayelle paused, her voice trailing off and her wonder-filled expression turning into a saddened one. Nyleria sighed softly, giving her daughter's hand a gentle squeeze.

"I know, honey, I know," she said reassuringly. "I know you want to properly say goodbye to your father and to Orrian. Let's go get settled into where we're staying and then we can go and visit where they're buried. It's a beautiful place. The humans who buried them chose well," she said.

Beluar laughed at the fact that she did fit in their mouths and she had no problem climbing into them. Him and Rylie were always scared she would fuck up and they would swallow her whole, but she seemed to do well with them. "I have no idea... I can always ask her or Nas to ask... yeah we gonna get Nas because she loves him more and he doesn't mind when she bites his head off. I think he actually enjoys it." He chuckled. Beluar watched her eat and couldn't help but smile. She was adorable and he wondered if she knew. He smiled and listened about her family. "Ahh so an only. I wonder how that is like." He said. "Having seven siblings is a lot."

Haera stumbled in and smiled. Her arms full of cans filled with ginger ale. "I come baring gifts for the lovey owner. Not the spoiled kid next to her." She said and set them on the side so that they wouldn't be in the way. Then she sat down and huffed, "So many damn people in this city. Where they come from?" She asked. Birger patted her head and chuckled. She smiled up at him and shook her head.

Quentin was getting home when he saw the familiar red headed elf on the streets. He was so relieved and then he saw her daughter and smiled. She was gorgeous and reminded him of his own. He walked up to them and smiled, "Welcome back, hope your travels were safe and smooth." He said and then looked down at the girl. "You must be Mayelle, your mom has gushed about you. So glad to get to meet you." Quentin said softly and held out a hand.

Barynn almost breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Haera coming in with the gingerale. She almost immediately snatched one up and took a long drink, hoping it would help to ease her unsettled stomach somewhat. Just the taste was delicious after having thrown up so much this morning. Beside her, Istrain watched Birger and Haera out the corner of his eye as Birger patted Haera's head the way Haera always did to him. He'd found that lately their little acts of affection were coming across as mildly irritating to him, though he couldn't figure out why. Maybe he was just getting tired of feeling like a third wheel with them - after all, that was pretty much how it was. They were sleeping together and he was just the friend that showed up and hung out with them during the day. Yeah, sure. That was what it was.

Nyleria felt her heart flutter when she saw Quentin in the street, a smile spreading across her face as he approached. She felt Mayelle startle slightly when he came up to them. All she wanted to do was to lean up and kiss those lips, but she knew better than to do so with Mayelle right here. When Quentin offered Mayelle a hand, the young girl looked questioningly up at her mother. Nyleria smiled, dropping her daughter's hand and moving her hand instead to rest on her daughter's back. "Go ahead, honey," she said softly. "This is Uncle Q. He's a friend." Mayelle still looked a bit skeptical, having been taught to be wary of humans her entire life, but she lifted a hand and gently shook Quentin's. "Hello," she said in a soft voice, giving a small smile. "It's nice to meet you as well."

Haera looked over in time to see Istrain giving them that look again and walked over before rubbing her cheek on his. "Awww Istrain, you giving me that look cuz I didn't bring you anything. Aww I so sowwy." She teased before smirking and looking over at Birger who was being harassed by women and left him to it. She tugged at his pony tail and whispered in his ear, "I bet you like to getting it tugged while begging for more." Haera stood straight again and walked over to Barynn like nothing happened, "you doing okay?" She asked softly.

Quentin had wanted to kiss her and hold her to him, but he knew damn well that he couldn't. When the girl finally took his hand and shook it, he held it softly before letting it go. "Why don't you two go get settled? I will let the guards know that you two are going to be heading to the graves." He said and smiled at the both of them before looking a bit longer at Nyleria. He had missed her and would hopefully get to spend a bit of time with her to catch up on why it took so long.

Beluar laughed, "It could be a bit rowdy but I never really felt lonely. Plus we all had to study so we had quiet time. Though my older sister, Ameria, and Lor took up the studying more than any of us. But we all excel in our skills so..." He said with a small shrug and then ate and listen to her. "Rylie isn't human when it comes to those dragons. It is like how his mood is is how the dragons will be? He is angry the dragons get restless, when he is happy they are happy, and so forth. I am glad that he has been okay when you were in their mouth." He chuckled.

Istrain rolled his eyes a bit when Haera came over and rubbed cheeks with him. He'd literally never heard of anyone doing that before. Ever. It was so bizarre. He started slightly when she tugged his hair, his cheeks going only slightly pink as he heard the words she whispered in his ear. Before he had the chance to tell her that it was usually the other way around, though, she was off to check on his sister. If he ever had the chance to have his way with that woman, he was going to ruin her. Not that he'd ever want to sleep with her, of course - although, it's easy to sleep with someone without falling in love with them, but when it's a friend? Better safe than sorry, especially if Istrain was going to win that bet with Birger.

Barynn sighed softly when Haera came over. She wasn't even feeling well enough to giggle at the way Haera had pulled Istrain's hair. She loved that her big brother had finally met his match - perhaps in more ways than one. "Not really," she said, shaking her head. "Luckily the shop seems to be doing well. Maybe I should have made more jewelry," she added with a weak laugh. She hadn't anticipated this many people - of course, she figured that after the first day or so, things would even out and the people who needed jewelry immediately would have bought it, so she'd fall into the normal pattern of entertaining customers only when they needed something and not just for the sake of shopping here.

Nyleria smiled up at Quentin and gave him a nod. "We'll do that. I'm looking forward to seeing what you've done in - with the house. I'm sure it looks lovely," she said to him, and then Mayelle lifted her brown eyes to look up at her mother. "The house?" she asked, her voice soft. Nyleria nodded, moving her hand from Mayelle's back up to her shoulder here. "Yes," she replied. "Uncle Q here has a small guest house on his property that he's kindly allowing us to use while we're here. It's not far from where your brother and father are buried, so you'll be able to visit them at your leisure, and it's in a lovely wooded area so you'll have space to play. Uncle Q told me that there are children around your age in town that you can play with, if you wish." Mayelle quirked an eyebrow curiously, suddenly wondering just how long her mother planned on having them stay there, but she said nothing and instead nodded. "That's very kind," she said, turning her gaze towards Quentin.

Birger saw the blush on his face and chuckled. Things were going smoothly and that aura was vibrating. He left it alone though and watched people come an go before the crowd thinned out. Haera smiled a bit, worried still and now a bit of pity. It was clear that Barynn and Istrain were oblivious and maybe it was for the best right now. "Well the crowd is thinning out, so if you gotta up chuck we are here to help and make sure Istrain doesn't run off with your stuff. Damn traders." She said and winked over at him before smiling back at her. "Bir, you can go... you have your tav open and I know if Frank doesn't get his drink your gonna have an angry crying man on your door step again." She laughed and Birger sighed. "Dammit, Frank and his emotional ass." He walked to the front of the shop and smiled at Barynn, "You get yourself feeling better and good job with the shop." He said softly before leaving. "Now it is just me to protect your shop, it won't be hard to stop him. Just wave a pretty girl in front of him and BAM." She joked.

Quentin eyed her for her slip up and then it was clear that she hadn't told her daughter that they were moving in that small house in the back. He didn't say anything though for it wasn't his business. Quentin just smiled and waved, "See you two later." He said and walked away before going to his guards and letting them know.

Istrain chuckled a bit, shooting a wink back at Haera when she winked his way. "You wound me. I wouldn't run off with her stuff without leaving proper compensation," he said, though he'd become accustomed to the trader jokes that she and Birger made. He gave Birger a nod when the man decided to leave, and Barynn gave him a soft "thank you" before he left. She giggled a bit at Haera's comment, shaking her head. "I have a feeling that a pretty girl could distract all three of you in one fell swoop," she said in a soft voice before taking a drink. She'd opted to leave Longrus in the back room for now since she figured all the commotion and excitement might distress him somewhat, but he was definitely due for a walk soon. She glanced towards her brother. "I'd ask you to take the dragon for a walk but if you leave then it'll just be me and Haera and her idea of helping is probably going to be bullying people into buying jewelry," she said softly, and Istrain laughed. "You're probably right," he said, smirking towards Haera.

Nyleria blushed slightly, seeing that Quentin had caught her little slip-up. "See you later," she told him in response before he left, and then she began to walk with Mayelle again. Mayelle looked towards her mother. "He's very tall," she said, and Nyleria laughed softly. "Very," she agreed with a nod. "There are a lot of very tall men in this city. Even taller than most of the men in the tribe. It's bizarre." She almost commented that it wasn't entirely unpleasing - a few months ago, such a comment would have made her daughter laugh since she was just coming into an age where she understood attraction, but such a joke likely wouldn't be appropriate right now. Not when they were here to mourn Mayelle's father, and Nyleria's husband. Of course, she wasn't interested in mourning him, but she knew her daughter would be, and she didn't want to say anything about admiring other men while Mayelle had Myrthal on her mind.

She walked with Mayelle to the little house, grinning when she saw how lovely it looked now that it was all fixed up. "Oh! It looks wonderful," she said, and Mayelle couldn't help but to smile. "It is beautiful," she agreed, looking around. "And it's a lovely area. I can definitely play here. Mother...how long are we going to be here?" she asked, and when Nyleria turned her green eyes down towards her daughter, she could see a knowing look in the young girl's brown eyes. Nyleria sighed softly. "You are wise beyond your years, dearest," she said, leaning down to kiss her daughter's forehead quickly. "Let's get inside and get settled. Then we'll talk."

They headed inside and Nyleria gave her daughter a quick tour of the place. They put Mayelle's bag away in her room and Nyleria left her bag in her room, and then they went to sit in the dining area. Nyleria was pleased to find the kitchen stocked, and made a mental note to give Quentin some extra thanks for that when she saw him again. She grabbed a piece of fruit for each of them and then they sat down to talk. "Now, honey, there's no point in keeping things from you because you're becoming a grown-up, so I'm going to be honest with you here. Lately I've been unhappy with our tribe. In a sense, I feel as if they set me up for failure. I was unhappy with your father, and he eventually went on to kill Orrian. As a mother, there is no imaginable pain worse than losing a child. After coming here, I decided that I wanted to spend some time away from the tribe to think things through. I may return, or I may decide to stay here. I don't know yet. And yes, while I wanted you to come to see the graves of your father and brother now that they're gone, I also wanted you to be here with me while I took time to think. After losing Orrian, I hated the idea of being away with you. If you eventually decide to return to the tribe, I won't be offended. I may eventually return myself, but for now, I just need some time."

Mayelle quietly listened to her mother's speech, and then she nodded. "I know you were unhappy with daddy," she said to her softly. She reached across the table to hold her mother's hand. "If you need time to think and you want me here with you while you do it then I'll stay with you as long as it takes you to decide. Besides, maybe I'll like it here," she said with a smile. She knew that since her mother had left, her grandparents had been encouraging her to spend time with one of the boys in the tribe that she didn't particularly enjoy playing with since he was weird and kind of rude, and she'd been getting worried that they'd try to get her mother to arrange a marriage for them when she was old enough. Some distance might help the matter. She was okay with staying here.

Barynn raised an eyebrow slightly, looking towards Istrain. "Are we sure that's a good idea?" she asked, and he shook his head. "Probably not," he replied, though he figured that Haera could probably be trusted to bring back the dragon. Besides, even if she didn't, Longrus would probably want to come back. He hoped. It was the only home Longrus had really known for the last month, after all. He walked to the door into the back room, opening it up and sticking his head inside. "I was thinking we should probably close up shop a bit early since Barynn's not feeling well and I know you wanted me to take her to see Lor. So whenever you get back with Longrus, we'll close up. It's slowing down enough that it won't be a problem," he said to Haera.

Once they'd finished their snack, Nyleria took Mayelle and headed to visit the graves. Along the way, she softly explained to her daughter what Uncle Q's involvement had been, telling her daughter that he was the leader of the gang that had taken in Orrian and helped him, and that he'd been responsible for ensuring that the two of them were given proper burials. Mayelle listened intently as they walked, obviously both curious and wary about this man. "Why is he called Uncle Q?" Mayelle asked as they neared the graveyard, and Nyleria smiled a bit. "That's just what the island folk call him," she replied. "What's his real name?" asked Mayelle, and Nyleria reached over to boop her daughter's nose playfully. "I'm pretty sure that's only for those he trusts to know," she said softly.

Mayelle raised an eyebrow, slowing to a stop as she saw the graveyard entrance. "But if we're staying in his guest house, doesn't he trust us? I wouldn't want someone on my property if I didn't trust them. Isn't that the point of owning property? Humans are confusing," Mayelle said, and Nyleria laughed softly. "You're too smart for your own good, honey," she said before taking her daughter's hand. "Come on. We can do this together," she said, and led her daughter into the graveyard and over to the graves of her little girl's father and brother. As they drew near, she could feel the resistance from Mayelle, who was clearly apprehensive about the closure that seeing their graves would bring, but she knew that it would be good for her little girl.

When they reached the graves, they slowed to a stop. Already, Nyleria could feel tears pricking her eyes. It wasn't until Mayelle started to cry that Nyleria allowed herself to cry, dropping to her knees before Orrian's grave just as she had the first time she'd been here. Mayelle knelt down beside her and sobbed, and Nyleria gathered her daughter into her arms, burying her face in her little girl's vibrant red curls and crying as well. It felt good to be able to cry with her daughter, to mourn their family together. She knew now that she'd really been the one who needed this, a chance to just curl up with her daughter and cry for what they'd lost.

The two women cried for a while. After Nyleria stopped, she sat back and rested a while until Mayelle, too, had calmed down. Then, the pair just sat there in the grass, gazing upon the headstones and holding hands. "I can't believe they're really gone," Mayelle said to her mother in a soft voice, and Nyleria nodded her agreement. "I know," she said softly. "It's hard... I'm still having trouble with it and it's been over a month and a half now since I found out. The island is a beautiful place, though, and provides many distractions."

Mayelle looked around, and then looked to her mother. "Would it be okay if I went to explore for a while?" she asked softly, and Nyleria almost breathed a sigh of relief at her daughter's question. "Of course you can, honey," she replied. "You know where the house is if you need anything. Try not to get lost and please stay safe. Be home by dark," she said, leaning down and kissing her daughter's head. "Of course," Mayelle replied before getting up and walking off. Nyleria stayed a few minutes longer, waiting until her daughter was out of sight before getting up and heading in the direction of Quentin's place. It had been too long since she'd seen him and they'd had only a short time together before, so she was dying to get her hands on him.

He let her take his hand and lead him towards her place. It was nice and quiet, the sounds of the festival behind them as they got closer to her apartment. When the got there she thanked him and he smirked, "No thank you for taking a chance on me." He said softly before gently cupping her cheek and rubbing it softly with his thumb before leaning down and kissing her softly for a second and then pulling away.

Quentin was his study at the main house when one of his men came to the door and said that Nyleria wanted to talk to him. He nodded and told him to send her in. When she arrived he got up and walked past her and closed the door, locking it behind her. When he got back in front of her his brows furrowed a bit, "I was worried." He said and sat on his desk. Quentin had worried about if she was alive or not. Losing his wife and not the only woman he was willing to try with... just disappearing. It scared the shit out of him, but he put trust in her. Now she was here and he could sigh with relief.

Nyleria smiled as Quentin pulled her close, laying her hands delicately on his chest. "I'm sorry to have worried you. I assumed my letter would arrive...hopefully nothing bad happened to the courier," she said, frowning. She wouldn't put it against the council to have halted her mail, though. For all she knew they'd probably read the letter. It was a relief that she'd kept it short and sweet. "I know, I almost slipped...I don't think Mayelle caught it, though. I just...I've missed being close to you," she murmured, and slid her arms up and around his neck. "Thinking about you has been all that kept me from just giving in and staying with the tribe. They made it so difficult to leave with her - they were worried that after Myrthal left with Orrian and they both wound up dead, letting me leave with her would put her in danger too. Mayelle was the one who ended up convincing them."

* * *

The city was vast and filled with exciting things for Mayelle to explore. She had very little experience with human settlements. Her tribe sometimes set up camp on the edge of towns and villages, but never within, and she'd only been in the settlements a few times. Being here in such a large city and having free reign to run around and explore as she wished was exciting, and though she was still torn up about losing the two most important men in her life, she couldn't help but to grin as she entered the city streets and looked around for a suitable place to explore.

Marinda was walking along with a boy she knew, or rather that her parents knew, who she had been saddled with today for whatever reason. He was boring though, only wanted to talk about their studies and things like that, didnt want to leave the city, and other boring nonsense. And on top of it, this boy didnt like hot chocolate. Mari was convinced this boy was some kind of Sociopath waiting to happen. Then it happened, the boy stopped her and asked her out, right there on the damn side walk. She made a face, shook her head no, and then literally ran off. She ran for a minute and then turned the corner and smacked right into some girl with long red hair, making both of them fall over. Mari got up with a groan. "Oh my god I am so sorry!" She said and scrambled to help the poor girl up. " I shouldnt have been running around the corner. Are you okay?" She asked, looking the girl over.

Mayelle was just about to turn a corner and see what was down the next street when a pretty girl with ashy blonde hair came sprinting around the corner and collided with Mayelle. The redhead let out a startled cry as she toppled to the floor along with the other girl, who groaned before scrambling to apologize and help Mayelle up. Mayelle rubbed her bum slightly as she got up, which was a bit sore, but otherwise she felt okay. "I'm okay," she said quickly, giving the girl a smile. "It's okay! I've done it before too," she said with a little giggle. She'd been the cause of more than a few similar collisions back with the tribe. This girl didn't seem much older than she was, and a bright smile suddenly crossed Mayelle's face. "My name's Mayelle," she offered, sticking out a hand.

Mari let out a relieved sigh when the girl said the was okay. "Thank god. I'm still so sorry about that. Had to run and should have slowed down before turning. Probably shouldnt have ran in the first place, but, here we are." She said ad then blinked at the hand held out to her. She shook it anyways as the girl introduced herself. "Nice to meet you. My name is Marinda, But you can call me Mari, almost everyone does." She said and then dropped her hand again. "Havent seen you around before, you new here or something?" She asked moving out of the way of the side walk.

Mayelle grinned as the girl shook her hand and introduced herself as Mari. "That's a pretty name!" she told the blonde cheerfully. "I actually just got here today. I came here with my mother," she continued, lifting a hand to fluff up her curls quickly. "The island is really beautiful!" she added quickly, her brown eyes darting briefly about. It really was. Maybe this girl Mari would be able to show her around. Seeing the island from the eyes of a local would make her exploration much more effective.

Mari smiled warmly. "Thanks! Yours is pretty too." She said and listened about just getting there today, and that the island was pretty. "If you think this islands pretty, you're really in for it when you see the other ones." She said and then thought about it. "So, I'm free all day if youd like someone to show you around, its easy to get lost here if you dont know where you're going, and i'd hate for that to happen to you." She said with a grin.

Mayelle grinned when she heard the girl's offer and she gave a rapid nod. "I'd really like that!" she responded eagerly. She'd done a lot of exploring, but an island this big - and other islands on top of that - would need extra attention. "I bet you know all the best places," she added with a grin. Whenever locals had shown her around, they'd always taken her to the coolest places. She never seemed to be able to find the same kinds of cool places when she was exploring on her own.

Mari nodded. "Oh boy, do I." She said and motioned for her to follow her. "I'll take you to the tree in the center of the city. Its HUGE. I guess when they built the settlements and stuff, and eventually the city, the tree was just too big to cut down. So they built around it. Other people say its magical or something like that." She said and led her to the tree. Right now it was decorated with lights and ornaments and tinsel and it was indeed huge. Most trees didnt ever get this big, it grew up past the buildings and everything. "Well, this is the famous tree, its pretty cool right now, but most of the time its just a regular old tree. It never changes colors, and the leaves dont fall. So I guess thats why people call it magical." She explained.

Mayelle was intrigued from the moment that Mari said she was going to take her to the tree in the center of town. "Huge?" she asked excitedly, beginning to follow her newfound friend. She'd seen some big trees before, having grown up in the forest, so she wasn't sure what to expect. She grinned when they reached it, though, her brown eyes going wide. "That is huge!" she said, looking towards Mari. "It doesn't change colours?" she asked, surprised. It looked like a deciduous tree, so it should have changed colours in the fall and the leaves should have fallen off in the winter. "Are we allowed to climb it?"

Mari watched Mayelle look up at the tree in awe. Most people did when they first saw it. It was a ridiculous looking tree after all.She giggled and shook her head when she reaffirmed that the tree didnt change colors. "No, not really, the leaves get a little duller, more of a dark green in the winter, but thats about it. Its been here for hundreds and hundreds of years." She said and then shook her head again. "No, no ones allowed to get too close to it, for fear that they might damage the tree. Its kind of the islands pride and joy. All the festivals around here are arranged around it to show it off." She said. "But yeahh...If you try to climb it, you'll likely get arrested. They take it pretty seriously since the tree is so old."
