One of the many country sides that are in the kingdom. This one is closer to the castle, but has less occupants. It is mostly farm land.

Prince Marcus has fifteen acres of land in the country side for his personal use. There are no workers here, but they do go a couple times a month to check up on it.

Elise smiled big at first but then huffed at him. "You better fight for me if a demon drags me out of bed! I would fight one over you." She said and then gasped a little when he smacked her butt and told her to make the table. "Yes, dear." She said like such a good little housewife and went along and set the table up for the two of them nicely then coming back to the kitchen to see what things looked like. "Oooh it looks good. We make a good team." She said with a smile.

Loris smiled and shook his head before watching her leave and then tended to the food. When she came back and said they made a good team he looked at her, "Well duh, Eli." He said before playfully rolling his eyes and walking to the table where he placed the food on the plates and walked back in the kitchen, setting things down, grabbing drinks, and headed back to the table where he sat next to her. He took a bite of the veggies first and mmm'ed. "You make a mean good veggie." He said while smiling before taking a bite of his lamb chop.

Elise gave him the exact same look he had given her and sat down and ate with him, practically melting when she got that first peice of pork chop in her mouth. "You make a mean good lamb chop. God damn. Even vegetarian would happily eat this." She said and went back to munching. When they were done she picked up the plates and took them away to get them washed up and put up to dry before she ran off and grabbed the penguins and came back to sit in front of the fire on the couch. "Scary story time!" She said and patted the couch next to her.

Loris smiled with pride when he praised and when they were done he watched her run off to do dishes. He straightened up at the table and then went get stuff ready in the living room when she came back with penguins and patted the seat next to her. He said by her and chuckled. "Okay, lets do this." He said before starting the story.

“Never go over the wall.” My grandpa sat in the rocking chair, massaging his bad ankle through mud-stained jeans. “This isn’t the safest area of Florida. Especially at night.”

“Okay.”

“Also, be careful with that. You could take your eye out.”

See, that’s why my nine-year-old self didn’t take him seriously. He was always warning me about various “dangerous” things. Don’t swim in the deep end of the pool; you could drown. Don’t run so fast; you could trip and break your neck.

So when – one night – I heard a voice on the other side of the wall, I wasn’t scared.

I had been playing alone in the backyard, sitting in the grass between the orange trees, when I heard it. A woman’s voice, low and soft, echoing over the concrete wall at the end of the backyard.

“Hello?”

Being the curious kid I was, I immediately ran over to it. I wouldn’t climb over – even though I didn’t believe Grandpa, I didn’t want to make him mad – but there was no harm in taking a peek, right?

I stepped up on the old stone fountain, reached for the top of the wall, and hoisted myself up. And then I peered down.

Underneath the intertwining oak branches and Spanish moss was only darkness. I squinted, trying to make sense of the shadows flitting across the dirt floor. Maybe I had imagined it –

“Hello?”

The voice rang out in the darkness, up through the trees.

“Hello!” I called back.

I heard a rustling sound, and the soft thump of footsteps. “Who’s there?”

“Blair,” I called down.

“I’m Elizabeth.” The shadows shifted, but I still couldn’t quite make out the figure below. “And I need your help, Blair.”

“Sure! I can help!”

“I’m thirsty,” she said. The wind picked up, and the branches swayed, scattering the shadows below. “So very thirsty.”

“I’ll get you some water!” I said, without second thought.

“Oh, that would be so wonderful, Blair.”

I jumped down, scampered inside, and fished a bottle of water from the fridge. Grandpa didn’t even notice; he was watching some boring World War II movie on TV, rubbing his bad ankle all the while.

I stepped back up onto the fountain. “I got you some water,” I called. “Do you want me to throw it down?”

“Oh, well... it might hit me. Maybe you can come down and give it to me?”

I paused. The warm Florida air blew over my face, and there was a strange smell: sour, like when Dad’s meat freezer in the basement broke a few years ago. “I can’t. I’m not supposed to go over the wall.”

I was met with awkward silence.

“Hello?”

“Please, I’m so thirsty,” the voice said, again.

I looked at the rough concrete. Maybe I could pull myself up a bit, reach down, and hand her the bottle of water? I swung a leg up over the wall, and with a grunt, pulled myself into a sitting position.

Slowly, I leaned down, and reached my hand through the canopy of branches.

But nothing took the bottle of water.

“Hello?”

Silence. Not even a footstep, or a rustle, from the underbrush below.

“Hel—”

Something yanked my ankle.

Hard.

I jerked forward. The water fell to the ground with a sickening splat. My hands flew out, gripping the edge of the wall –

Ch-ch-ch-ch.

A chittering sound, almost insect-like, emanated from the underbrush. Large, dark figures emerged from the shadows, swarming towards me in jerky motions. I screamed, holding on to the wall for dear life, but my fingers were slipping –

“Blair!”

Two rough, strong hands grabbed my shoulders. In one motion, they yanked me back over the wall.

“What did I tell you?” Grandpa shouted. “Never go over the wall!”

“But there was a woman,” I said, through sobs, “and she said –”

“No buts!” He dragged me back inside, and sat me down on the couch. “No matter what you heard – what you think you heard…” He propped my leg up on the ottoman. An angry red mark had appeared – four long fingers and a thumb.

Fingers so long, they wrapped around the entire circumference of my ankle, and then some.

“Grandpa, what were those things?”

He didn’t reply.

Instead, he slowly rolled up his pant leg.

There was a white, shining scar –

Of long fingers wrapped around his ankle."

When he went to say help he grabbed her ankle and chuckled. After he was done with the story he looked at her, "You scared? Need another story?" He asked.

Elise hugged the penguins close to her while he told the story, giggling a little that he had used Blairs name. Blair seemed like he would have been a kid who would have pulled that nonsense with his grandpa too. Which just made things kind of funny for a minute before she got real creeped out, then scared, and then got shivers all down her back at the mention of insect like sounds and real long fingers. Elise just nodded when Loris asked her if she was scared and then shook her head really fast when he asked about needing another one. "No thanks! I'm good..." She said softly.

Loris kissed her softly before bringing her into his lap. "You are so cute when you get all scare. Hmm it would be a shame if the real monster was me though." He chuckled and kissed her neck and shoulder before holding her to him with one arm before tickling her with his free hand. "Muwahah!" He chuckled evilly.

Elise snuggled into Loris and smiled when he kissed her neck and shoulder. She snuggled into him ore when he held her to him but then gasped before just laughing. "No!!!" She said and wiggled her way away from him and fell off the couch and rolled away from him before sitting on her knees a little ways away from him. "Mean! Loris laughed before gasping, "Flipping me off? How rude. Now I def won't be saving you from the demons he said before sliding onto the floor and over to her before laying next to her. "You only have yourself to blame for having a cute laugh AND looking cute while being tickled and then getting away. What am I suppose to do? Keep my hands to myself? HA!" He said before laughing again and played with her hand gently. "I can't help it if you are gorgeous." Loris said softly before kissing it.

Elise giggled and then shook her head at him. "You can keep your hands on me. Just in less tickly ways." She said and gave him a sassy look before blushing and covering her face. "Ugh why do you gotta do this to me Loris, you're so sweet its rude." She said and then kissed him gently. "If you arent careful you'll give me a cavity. And then what will I do..." She said with a dramatic sigh. "You better save me from the demons. We cant get married if the demons get me you know. Then who is Cora gonna ask a million questions huh?"
