Introduction
So old, it seems, so old--
The dust must be an inch thick, you think.
You place it on the table, crank the gears,
And wait.
It seems like an eternity before you hear something.
When you do, it's the voice of an old woman.
Her very breaths seem to flutter away from
what must be such a frail frame.
She clears her throat, then starts to speak...
" " "
So many years after the end of days, three kings of men while away their lives on a boat in the middle of the Pacifis Drift, a ten-thousand mile stretch of water rendered still and silent by the currents raging around it. They've never known anything other than the confines of their boat— never tasted anything other than the sweet fruits and bitter grains they grow under the ocean sun. The only water they know tastes of rust and mildew and so slightly of salt, and their clothes, though once fine, have begun to rot on their bodies with wear and age.
These three kings were sent away as their mothers watched their kingdoms razed to the ground, so perhaps it's for the better that they've never laid eyes on their homes. Now, not a soul remains in sight on the blackened earth where their kingdoms once stood.
When the world fell, none know why the lords of the world sent away kings. Not prodigies, not sages, but kings. They sent away two girls and a boy and a crippled old woman on a boat that was already falling apart at the seams.
The kings remember little of their past. The old woman raised them into childhood, but none remember when she died or where she went when she did. It seems as though the endless sea itself swallowed her whole.
Ah, yes. And to speak of what is endless...
Though only one king could read— the girl, the one who cropped her hair short. The one who couldn't sing— all three grew up on tales of the four endless spirits: Naia, the birth, Iyamene, the awakened, Khol, the ender, and Naola, the eternal. The one who could read read through the pages of that book a thousand times without ever grasping its meaning. How strange, she thought, that she would have Iyamene's name branded into her own flesh.
...how strange, indeed...
But is there an end to this story, you ask?
And the answer to that, it seems, is hazy;
for the three kings of the end of days drift,
and so soon, they've reached new shores.
But are these shores but an illusion?
Or have they really found the ashes of the old—
and, if that—
what place does the new have over the ashes
of all the things that once we- e- e- eeei- iiiiii-
You pull your hand, shaking—
shaking with frailty of age,
and perhaps with a bit of shock,
from the crank,
and all you can do is stare.
Silent.
This— this is your story!
But where is the end?
There are three, possibly four roles. Really, that's it. If only one other person signs up for this, I'll take two (or you can!).
I'm really not taking reservations... just tell me you'll be submitting if you think you'll take a while. These roles are really open-ended, so feel free to tweak as you'd like!

Re: We Three Kings of the End of Days
I understand, they have been sent away because of something/ someone causing their kingdoms destruction. I could grasp that they are still on he boat, trying to find shores -- to find out about what happened to the world, right? After that you've lost me. What's that with marked by eternal? What is that exactly? And what do you mean with only one king reads or something in the intro?
It would really help if you answer, because then, I might be able to submit a character for this roleplay!
Re: We Three Kings of the End of Days
There are four royals on a boat, that were sent away for some reason and everyone on Earth vanished? Or are they stuck on the boat still not knowing that everyone vanished??
I'm just not understanding it. ^^
