I promise to depart just promise one thing,
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.

This is what I brought you this you can keep,
This is what I brought you may forget me.
I promise you my heart just promise to sing,
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.

Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.

Winterborne home for troubled teens is among the best institutes for mentally unstable teens. Of course home for trouble teens is just a nicer way of saying Winterborne Asylum. Everyone knows what it is there is no point in trying to hide it. Winterborne houses teens that are deemed too unstable to function normally in the real world and most of the teens have horrifying pasts. On the outside Winterborne appears quite pleasant, but there is a dark, much more wicked side to the hospital. It is said that once you go in you never come out, after all there is an old cemetery behind Winterborne.

Most of the teens in the hospital know that the doctors aren't really there to help in fact their, there to make things worse, if you haven’t completely lost your mind your will soon. Not to mention the haunting that take place from prior patients…or is that all fake too? Either way you look at it, Winterborne will be your final resting place, it’s your own hell and your worst nightmares are sure to come to life.

“Nyla, stay with me." his voice was faded as Nyla drifted to sleep. She couldn’t help it even if she wanted to.

Cameron Hewitt was a brilliant doctor straight out of med school. He’d become obsessed with Nyla’s case as a freshmen in college and it had become is goal to treat her and get her out of Winterborne. He was so intrigued by her story, the test that had been done on her, and the way her mind worked. He’d been her doctor for the past six months. His latest venture, hypnosis, which only caused Nyla to slip into her unconscious, consciousness.
---
It was silent now, the air was frigid and small beads of ice had already started to form on the tips of her raven colored lashes. The croaking of a bird caused her eyes to flutter open, she knew exactly where she was. She’d been there a million times before a world she’d created to escape her cruel fate at Winterborne. She stood up as ash fell like snow around her covering the ground. Above her the dead tree branches entangled making the gray mid-day sky imitate pieces of a shattered mirror.

The straps of her white dress hung from her shoulders threatening to fall off her thin frame. In her world, she was more alive, she didn’t look like a zombie or like death was always hanging over her. Her pale skin resembled pure porcelain. Her eyes were liked in black, bring life to her brilliant blue eyes and her lips were pained the color of blood. Her fishnets were ripped and her boots were worn.

She Started to walk, knowing she had t, because night fell sooner her, then it did in the real world and being in the forest at night would get her killed. There were things here in this world that would drive the most sane person completely mad. She could see her breath as she moved quickly through the dead forest. Someone was following her, she could hear the foot steps behind her clearly, but they were always following her, she didn’t turn and her heart rate stayed the same. She didn’t fear this world, she’d created it every horrible being, every violent monster, was hers.

She stopped peering at the old church in front of her and her blood ran cold at the sound of the forlorn howls of the shadow wolves, dark demonic wolves that hunted in the shadow praying on the weak, there black eyes as cold as death itself. She pushed the doors of the church open. Despite the outer appearance of the decrepit church the inside, the inside remained beautiful, solemn, and untouched. The soft hum of a women chanting. The music put her on edge, this dream was different.

“Ny. Wake up.” she heard her brother’s voice and it felt like ages since she’d heard that voice. She turned to see her brother standing, lend against one of the pews causally. “It’s going to get worse.” she narrowed her eyes, it was really him, God she’d missed him.

“A simple hi would be nice.” she smirked, she wanted to reach out and hug him and tell him how much she missed him, but Nyla had become so dead inside that she wasn’t even sure she remembered what a hug felt like and she was afraid she’d fall apart if she felt her brother’s touch, even if it was just a dream.

“Nyla I’m serious.” he said raising his voice as he pushed off the pews and advanced towards her like he was going to shake her awake only he walked through her disappearing and it felt as though he own soul had been taken from her body. Her body was freezing, like a corpse.

“What the fuck.” She breathed knowing instantly something’s was wrong. She weaved her own dreams long enough to know you couldn’t weave a real like human into your dreams and when you did, they never had faces, but that had been her brother and that had been a warning. She heard the clicking of a gun, the smooth exchange of the bullet into the barrel of a gun and she turned to see her father and for the first time in a long time she could decide whether it was real or a dream, because he was there, in front of her just like the night he’d killed her mother, and Parker, and then himself.

“I should have shot you first princess.” He smirked wickedly and Nyla’s heart beating wildly in her chest and her breathing speed, the gun was aimed right at her chest and everything seem to go silent as he pulled the trigger, time slowed and then speed back up when the bullet ripped through her skin, causing her to scream out in pain and drop to the ground. She watched her dress fade from white to a deep red around her heart. She could literally feel herself, her real-self dying. Her eyes began to flutter shut as they grew heavy and she tried fighting it.
---

When her eyes fluttered open again, she was strapped down to a cold metal gurney. Bright lights above blinding her and she watched the nurse pull the needle out of her chest. She’d died, for a split second she’d actually been dead and they’d had to revive her, with an adrenaline shot to the heart. She flicked her eyes to the window where Dr. Hewitt stood watching her worriedly. All she could think was what the fuck had just happed. If the other Winterborne patients and staff didn't think she was a fucking nut case before, they sure as hell would now. She always had control of her dreams, she'd learned how to control them when she was a little girl and real people couldn't physically be brought into your dreams it was the law, unless they were faceless or something was off about them. But, she'd lost control and the had been her father and her brother. Whatever Dr. Hewitt had down to her this time had nearly killed her.

Ryley sat in a clean and rigid chair. Before him, a matching table and his doctor sat across from him in a chair that matched his own. There was paper and a few different colored pencils sitting before Ryley. "Tell me Ryley..how have the visions been since our last talk?" Doctor Markham said as he eyed his patient. The younger man was silent for a few moments as he continued on the drawing he was working on. He hated the talks he was forced to have with Markham. However, he liked the man. He was only doing his job. Ryley had known Markham since he was admitted to Winterborne. He could not imagine having a different doctor.

As he finished the drawing, Ryley looked up at the man. "They are the same." He admitted, his face completely blank. "I see them even now." Doctor Makham began writing in his notebook, the one that he used solely for Ryley. "And the voices?"

Ryley actually seemed hesitant to reply to the man's question. "Ryley, these are all things that I need to know. You know this. I thought we were going to be completely honest with one another?" Ryley looked down, pulling another piece of paper to him and began drawing once again. "I know..it's..just hard. I know that you don't believe me. That's why you keep prescribing me all these pills." Ryley paused, taking a deep breath. "But, to answer your question, they are the same as well."

Doctor Markham began writing once again. Silence soon drifted out and around them. Ryley allowed it, suddenly feeling the very same things that he felt every time they met together. "The medication that I have you on is not working. That much is clear. I had been so sure about this combination. We'll just have to keep trying. I know that we can find something that will help you..I think.."

Ryley suddenly looked up at the man. "There is no help for me. Even if you somehow manage to 'cure' me, as you put it, my family wants nothing to do with me. I'm here for the rest of my life. You know it. I know..hell, everyone knows it." Ryley said, finally standing up from his seat. The other man in the room stood as well, straightening his suit. "You should not think so negatively, Ryley. We would not be trying to help you if there was no hope in you ever leaving this place. I know what you were told when you first arrived. I was there, remember? I don't think you tried to kill your family because you wanted to. It was the visions and their voices. Without them, I'm confident that you would be perfectly safe to let back into society. I'm going to change your prescription. We'll see if there is any improvement with the change."

He said nothing more to the doctor. Ryley merely nodded. Suddenly, two orderlies appeared in the room. One on each side of him. "Until our next session." The older man said. Ryley nodded before he was led out of the room. They made their way through the halls. Ryley thought about all of the things that he'd talked to Markham about over the past five years. Nothing had helped him. He knew that the man was trying and he had to give him credit for sticking with him for so long.

He doubted that anything would ever 'cure' him and he was honestly okay with that. He'd grown used to seeing the dead and hearing their voices when he was young. Not seeing them would probably be shocking and he was truly unsure if he could handle it. They came to a set of double doors that were kept locked. One of the men that was escorting him signaled for a guard to unlock them.

They exited the building only to enter into a recreational area. Ryley loved being outdoors. He always looked forward to it. The orderlies left him then. There were many other patients outside already. He made his way over to a empty bench and sat down. He pulled his legs up, sitting indian style. Markham had given him a book to read though Ryley did not understand why. However, he'd not had a decent book in at least three years. He opened it, his eyes looking down at the words. Perhaps the man hoped that by reading the long book his 'visions' would go away. Ryley chuckled to himself at the thought. It truly didn't matter the reason.

After a long time of trying to stabilize her, despite the fact that now she was perfectly fine. Dr. Hewitt finally came in, Nyla sat up then glaring at the nurses as a warning to stay away from her.

“Nyla, you need to tell me what you saw." he said calmly placing a hand on her shoulder gently. He was the only person in the whole hospital that was brave enough to willingly touch her as if they were old friends. She held his eyes and he narrowed his eyes glancing between both her eyes. “Your right eye color?" he breathed in shock. “Your right eyes is green." he opened his notebook jotting down a few things.

Nyla didn’t speak and he knew by the blank, unamused look in her eyes he’d lost her. She’d never admit it but she’d always like Cameron, he was smart and very brave and he refused to give up on her, even though everyone one including Nyla herself believed she was too far gone for any kind of saving.

“Right then. " he sighed. “Let her out with the others. She needs air. Keeping her locked up, will only make her sicker. She’s gone through enough today." The nurses looked shocked, but they didn’t argue.

Three large orderlies came into the room then. Two of them grabbed her by her bicep, while the other followed behind them for precautionary measures. She walked in silence through the halls as Dr. Hewitt followed the four of them. When they finally got to the door leading outside to the recreational area, Hewitt ordered the guard to unlock the door and Nyla walked outside.

The air misty and heavy with the musk smell of rain, like any minuet it might down pour, above her the clouds were a soft gray black. She hadn’t been outside in close to three weeks. They very rarely let her out with the other patients, mostly because she liked to cause trouble and she freaked the other patients out. Instantly as if the wind picked up, she could hear small whispers from the others and she could feel eyes on her. If she was being honest she hated it.

He pin straight jet black hair created enough of a wall for her peripherals that she didn’t have to look at the others as she glanced around for a place to sit. Finally deciding to sit at the table in the corner that was currently occupied by 0999 at least that what she knew him as. She made her way to the table sitting down across from him silently. He was the only other patient she knew of that was just as messed up as her. The lower risk patients were mostly teenagers who were addicted to drugs or alcohol. Some of them were constantly attempting suicide while other had eating disorders.

Ryley found that he was rather enjoying the book that Markham had loaned him. It had a few words in it that he had no idea the meaning for. However, he did not allow it to deter him. He continued on. Several times the doors to the large building opened and then closed as more patients were brought out. Ryley paid little attention to any that were brought out. He never did. Most kept away from him and he was fine with that. He had enough people telling him he was crazy, he really didn't need any more. The last person that came out into the yard caused many of the other patients to begin whispering among each other.

It definitely caught Ryley's attention. However, he still kept his gaze on the pages of his book. Within a few moments, the cause for the slight disruption appeared, joining him. Ryley allowed his gaze to shift, moving to the girl that now sat across from him. It was 1313 or Nyla, as Parker had just told him. As his friend had spoken, Ryley's gaze had shifted slightly, looking behind the girl's shoulder. He was silent, however. He quickly returned back to his book. He could hear Parker, going on about his sister. When he could stand the chatter no longer, Ryley looked up again at the spirit that remained near 1313.

"I'm sorry to bother you, but I was wondering.." Ryley started, glancing to the young woman. He ran a hand through his hair before he continued. "Do you know that you've got someone following you around?" He fell silent, allowing the girl to answer him. However, he did not allow her to speak for long before he interrupted her. "He cares for you very much..I wish my family care for me in such a way. I think that having someone like Parker looking out for you is something that we all need. Especially here."

Ryley simply regarded Nyla, looking at her as if he knew exactly what he was talking about. That there was no question in his mind about what he was seeing or hearing. His gaze shifted once again to Parker. He did not know if he should continue speaking or not. In the end, he decided to remain silent, waiting to see how the young woman would react to what he'd just said to her.

Nyla was content with just sitting there and she hoped 0999 would just keep his mouth shut. She hoped he was just as scared of her as everyone else and maybe with any luck he’d just get up and move. He glanced up behind her like he was looking at someone, but she just ignored it. Her hands folded in her lap as she traced the creaks in the cement table, they sat at.

"I'm sorry to bother you, but I was wondering.." his voice caused her to glanced up and lock eyes with him. "Do you know that you've got someone following you around?" she narrowed his eyes, looking at him like she was completely normal and he was the only crazy one.

“Really, do I now?" she spat bitterly, mocking him. Her voice was low so only he could hear it, but it was no less venomous.

"He cares for you very much..I wish my family care for me in such a way. I think that having someone like Parker looking out for you is something that we all need. Especially here." he finished ignoring her, hateful remark.

She wasn’t entirely sure she’d heard him correctly when he’d said her brother’s name. No one aside from the doctors and the police knew he had a brother, in fact her brother had almost been over looked when the police came to her house. She’d had to show them her brother’s body. So the fact that he knew not only freaked her out but it pissed her off, especially after what had just happened in her dream. She glanced down to the darkened ink spot she drew on her hand, which told her whether or not she was dreaming. It was really the only way she kept her self sane. When the spot wasn’t there she was dreaming, when it was there it was real life and it was defiantly there.

“I should rip your fucking heart out of your chest, you little prick." she hissed, like she was a second away from jumping over the table and actually fulfilling her threat. “I’d love to watch you bleed." she said with a wicked smirk. “You’re a sick twisted fuck, you know that. What do you do, read everyone’s damn files?" she spat harshly, fighting every urge in her to jump across the table and beat the shit out of him.

She stood up then and reached across the table snatching his book from his grip, tearing the pages out viciously. She recognized the book, they’d tried to feed her that bullshit a few years ago, like reading Shakespeare or Hemingway was actually going to help them. They weren’t mad at all, Edgar Allen Poe on the other hand, was right up their ally. He’d drown in his own madness, just like all of them would do at Winterborne. When she’d ripped all of the pages from the book she’d thrown it back in his lap and glanced around at everyone staring at her as she tried to calm her breathing.

“Hemingway is a joke, just like this hospital." she said darkly. “Go fuck yourself." breathed, here fit had caused everyone to go silent shocked at hearing her talk so much or talk at all really. She left the table then pushing open the gate that lead from the recreational area to the yard making her way to the cemetery to clear her head. It was all too coincidental. The fact that she had just clearly dreamed about her brother and now 0999 had claimed he was following her. Either it was all another illusion or something was seriously wrong was going on.

Ryley watched the woman closely. It wasn't long before she began speaking to him. "I should rip your fucking heart out of your chest, you little prick. I’d love to watch you bleed. You’re a sick twisted fuck, you know that. What do you do, read everyone’s damn files?" Ryley had not been expecting such a strong reaction from her. "How would I be able to read everyone's files?" He watched as she rose from her seat and then suddenly snatched his book from his hands. Nyla then began ripping the pages from the book and then threw it back into his lap. Ryley looked at him in mild shock. “Hemingway is a joke, just like this hospital. Go fuck yourself." Ryley said nothing, merely gazing down at the sad looking book.

The woman left him then and then made her way to the gate that led to the cemetery. For a long moment, Ryley remained simply sitting, looking down at the book. He was not happy with what she'd done to it. He finally glanced up to find Parker standing there watching him. He suddenly rose from his seat after having gathered the separate pieces of the book. He wanted nothing more than to simply go after her. After much debate, he did.

Ryley made his way to the gate and went through it. There, he found her. He eyed her for a moment before speaking up. "You're a fucking crazy bitch, you know that?" He made sure to keep a distance between them. Parker was near his sister once again and Ryley found himself glancing to his friend and then back to Nyla. "You had no reason to destroy my book. Now I'm going to have to explain to Markham what happened to it. Thanks for that.."

He slowly walked around her so that he was on the other side of the woman. He was silent for a moment, allowing her a chance to speak. "I didn't mean to anger you. I did not think that mentioning him would anger you so. Nor did he say otherwise." Ryley paused as Parker had moved closer to him, speaking softly. Ryley tilted his head to the side, so as to hear him better. "Anyway, stay the fuck away from me. I don't want anything to do with you. Parker, on the other hand..feel free to find me later."

Ryley then turned to leave. He exited the cemetery and then back into the recreational area. He sat down at the same table he'd been at a few moments earlier. He then buried his head into his arms in frustration. However, he brought his eyes up enough so that he could watch those around him.

Nyla was beyond frustrated with him, simply because deep down she knew he wasn’t lying, she knew he could probably really see parker. Him being able to talk to and see things weren’t there made him seem completely normal compared to what she could do with her dreams, of course no one knew what she could do and even if she told them, they’d never believe her. But, why Parker? Was all she could think. Her eyes landed on something in the distance, in the cemetery, the shadows, they were always there. She knew they were from her dreams and she hated that she couldn’t make them go away.

“You’re a fucking crazy bitch, you know that?” his voice ripped her away from the shadows and she glanced to him standing in front of her and she rolled her eyes. "You had no reason to destroy my book. Now I'm going to have to explain to Markham what happened to it. Thanks for that.." he said keeping his distance, he slowly moved around to her other side.

“Your welcome princess.” she said glaring at him. “Maybe if you’d mind your own fucking business…” she trailed off trying to control her temper, because if she got to irritated, she really would try and hurt him or herself.

"I didn't mean to anger you. I did not think that mentioning him would anger you so. Nor did he say otherwise." He seemed to be paying attention to someone else and she took the time to flick her eyes back to the cemetery, the shadows were gone then. "Anyway, stay the fuck away from me. I don't want anything to do with you. Parker, on the other hand...feel free to find me later." he said bring her attention back to him as he headed back to the recreation area.

“Yeah, well fuck you too babe.” she yelled after him, before making her way out to the cemetery, hoping she wouldn’t get stopped, not that they paid much attention anyways.

The Cemetery was creepy, that was for sure, yet Nyla found it peaceful and if they let her go out there more often, she’d probably be a lot calmer. She followed the path deeper into the cemetery and she knew that Cameron would know exactly where to find her when she wasn’t in the rec area.

“There you are babe.” she heard a familiar voice causing her to glance in the direction she’d heard it and her heart sped up. It was him. She was both terrified and in love with him. He was the closest thing to reality in her dreams, but he wasn’t in her dreams he was there, in the flesh, lend against one of the large gravestones casually smoking like he was supposed to be there.

“Damien?” She breathed in shock.

“In the flesh babydoll.” he said a wicked smirk on his pale blue corpse like lips. He held his pack of cigarettes out to her like a peace offering and she hesitated before she made her way over and light one, taking a long much needed inhale, before blowing the smoke out.

Ryley slowly sat up straight as the image of a young woman appeared before him. He eyed her closely as she sat down across from him. "Long time no see." She said, returning his stare. Ryley could see that Hailee was not happy with him. He'd been ignoring her lately. "Sorry..I've been.." He started. "NO! I don't want to hear it. You're the only one I have that understands me..and you avoid ME!?" Ryley rolled his eyes before glancing around. It was obvious to him that a few of the other patients around him had noticed that he was talking with what appeared to be himself.

"Hailee, come on. I haven't seen you around at all. How does that mean that I've been ignoring you? You've been avoiding me again." The young woman that sat across from him remained silent for a while this time. After some time had passed, she sighed. "Sorry, dude. You know how I get when we don't see each other. You're the only one here that I think can help me. If you started ignoring me..I really don't know how I would be able to continue with this existence."

Ryley smiled at the woman. "At least you've got nothing to worry about. I'd never ignore you. I couldn't even if I wanted to. Anyway, anything new going on?" Hailee seemed to already be in a better mood. She'd been a patient at Winterborne some time before Ryley had arrived. She'd been fairly well known not only there but in the outside world as well. In life, Hailee had been put into Winterborne for having multi-personalities as well as not being able to sleep for periods of time. She'd killed several people at her school before she was admitted. When Ryley had first come across her spirit, he'd had no idea who she was. It had been Hailee who had helped him find the information.

They had become fairly close, the girl always seemed to find him anytime that he was having a hard time. "As good as the dead can be. You? The good ol' doc still giving you meds to help with the 'visions'?" Ryley nodded in agreement. He knew that she already knew the answer, however..he humored her.

Somehow Nyla and Damien had ended up sleeping together right there in the fucking cemetery. It didn’t matter that anyone could find them, in fact that was probably part of the reason she’d given in, it was the rush, than again she was always giving into him. He had a power over her and she hated him for that. She slipped her clothes back on, she sat on her knees as she pulled her black tank top over her head and straightened it out, pulling her long raven hair out from the collar.

She lend in then and pressed her lips to his, setting a fire throughout her body. He was pure evil and she could literally taste that every time they kissed and she shivered as he placed a hand on the back of her neck to hold her in the kiss. He pulled away and stood up slipping on his shirt. He lit a cigarette, causing her to crave one herself and as if he’d read her mind he tossed her his pack of cigarettes and his lighter.

“Keep em.” he said running his fingers through his jet black hair, before taking another drag off his cigarette as she lit her own, inhaling deeply. She blew out perfect smoke rings in front of her as she sat cross legged, leaning against one of the old headstones.

“D?” she breathed softly though she wasn’t even sure he’d heard her, her voice had been just below a whisper.

“Yeah.” he said calmly causing her to flick her dark eyes up at him, only to lock eyes with him He was brilliantly beautiful. Skeleton like, cold and dead, his eyes were empty and terrifying, yet she forced herself to hold him. To be honest he was the only thing she feared, because he was a creation of her own mind, when she was at her very worst a manifestation of all her dark and now he wasn’t just a dream he was real.

“It’s not just you, is it?” she breathed, hating herself because she was the one that was letting them manifest in the real world, she was losing a grip on the veil between her world and the real world. “How did you cross over? Your real.” She said finally standing and stomping her cigarette out on the headstone, before flicking it away.

He took a dangerous step closer and she instinctively stepped back, to create distance only to be stopped by the headstone. “No, It’s not just me and that’s all thanks to your stupid fucking doctor and his treatments.” he smirked wickedly and his eyes seemed to darken.

That’s when Nyla’s attention was pulled away from Damien and to the dark figure that stood behind him. She was so thin, you could make out the bones in her body, she wore a dress that was torn and dirty. Her skin was peeling of and blood was dried all over her arms, her face however was hidden by cascading black hair. It was the way Nyla saw herself, dead, ugly, and broken. Nyla’s breathing deepened and her heartbeat pounded in her chest, so loudly she was scared Damien would hear it and use her fear against her. He fed off her fear. She felt his grab her and pull her close and she flicked her eyes back to him as he pushed a strand of her hair behind her ear.

“Nyla, darling.” he breathed and Nyla stole a quick glance back to where the girl was, but she was gone and the scenery around them started to flicker, like a television set that was going bad, he was pulling her into her world. “Your losing your mind.” She glanced back to him, there was a wicked smirk on his lips.

“You can’t!” she screamed “I can’t fall asleep.” she said shoving him away, she turned then and ran. She knew she wouldn’t get far and as she started to run she realized the cemetery was changing, he’d already started pulling her under, now he was just play a game of cat and mouse to buy time until she completely slipped under.
---
Parker knew something was wrong when he couldn’t slip into the cemetery after Nyla, he’d been following her for much too long. It was that guy that she was always sleep talking about. He knew that, because whenever his presence was with Nyla, there was like a force around her that parker couldn’t get through. Parker moved quickly, making his way back to Ryley, he could see Hailee there, sitting across from him, but he didn’t care.

“Ry, Nyla’s in trouble. I can feel it. She’s in the cemetery. Please, you have to go after her.” he was practically begging. He wasn’t sure Ryley would go for it simply because him and Nyla hadn’t exactly gotten along.

Hailee laughed loudly. "I don't know why you continue to humor him. None of the medication he's giving you ever helps..but then, if it ever did..I think that I'd miss our talks." Ryley laughed at this lightly. "I think that I'd miss you too, Hailee. Don't worry, though. I doubt anything would ever make you all go away." He remained sitting there with his friend for what seemed a long time. Suddenly, Parker appeared and looked quite bothered by something. "Parker? What's wrong?"

“Ry, Nyla’s in trouble. I can feel it. She’s in the cemetery. Please, you have to go after her.” Ryley could see that this meant a lot to his friend. Regardless of how little he liked the woman, he simply could not ignore his friend's request. He sighed softly and then rose from his seat. "I'll go check on her for you. Wait here with Hailee and I'll be back in a minute. You're probably just being paranoid."

Ryley didn't think that there was anything to worry about. However, he didn't like seeing his friend so worried. Ryley made his way back towards the cemetery and quickly slipped out of the recreational area. The moment his feet touch the ground, everything around him changed. No longer was he seeing the familiar grounds of Winterbrone, but a place that he'd never seen before. For a long moment, Ryley simply remained standing still, his eyes looking about him. This was definitely new. After spending a long moment, he came to realize that he was in some sort of maze.

He sighed heavily. He'd never been good with things like this. He decided that he still needed to move. Standing still would help with nothing. He began walking, taking random turns every once in a while. He had no idea what was going on..but clung to the thought that he still needed to find Nyla.

How long he walked about the maze, Ryley had no idea. The only thing he knew was that he had no idea where he was going or how to get out of the maze. He was quickly growing impatient and frustrated. He had begun running into dead ends..one right after another. At last, he stopped moving. He felt as if he'd been running around for such a long time. He wanted out of this place. "Parker?! Hailee?!" He yelled, hoping that his friends could still hear him and come to help. However, they did not appear. This was something that was quite unusual. Anytime that Ryley ever called for them, they came. Why, then, was this time different. "Come on guys! I'm tired of this game!"

Ryley sighed once again. They still did not come. He was beginning to worry. He didn't like not being able to see or hear his friends. What if Markham's medications were beginning to work? What if he never saw them again? Ryley knew that he would refuse to take the medications if he decided that was what was going on.

Nyla could feel herself loosing grip on reality and it was all because she’d given into Damien. She shouldn’t have ran, that much was clear, because it had only made things much worse. He was going to pull her under and keep her there and then when Dr. Hewitt found her he’d put her under suicide watch because her arms would be cut up and bloody, her body would be bruised, and she’d be stuck inside for another three weeks. The thought was frustrating and made her run faster. Through the cemetery that had turned into a dark winding maze.

She stopped running and paused, she could see hear breath, the air was icy now and when she looked down to the ink spot on her hand it was slowly fading. The howling of the shadow wolves was distant but she could hear them. She heard the croaking of a raven and turned to see a flock of them fly over her and the sky above her was starting to darken. She looked down realizing she was in her white dress yet again, fishnets cover her legs and her worn boots to complete it.

“Damien Stop It!” she yelled, desperately, her voice cracking.

She glanced around her then and it was no longer a maze, she was gone. The real world had faded and she was now consumed by her own world, that had started out as nothing more than an escape, but it was clear now that her world was taking on a mind of its own separate from her own. A world full of tortured thoughts and terrifying monsters.

The forest around her was thicker, dark, then it had ever been before. This was new, yet she still knew exactly where she was going as she walked. Ash on the forest floor gave the appearance of snow. Darkness had claimed the world, which meant it could no longer be a dream it was a nightmare. Her teeth chattered as the air grew colder and she stopped dead in her tracks when she saw eyes, only she’d seen those eyes before they were familiar to her, but that was impossible she knew what it was, it was a shadow wolf and so she stayed frozen unable to move, because if she ran it would chase her.

After having taken a moment to calm himself, Ryley took off in another direction once again. He was amazed at how confusing the maze was but after some time long he came to the exit..or was it the entrance? It didn't matter. Either way, he was free of it. Ryley continued walking, slowly making his way to a forest. He didn't care for this place. It just didn't sit well with him. He allowed himself to keep his eyes on his surroundings, looking about for anything that could pose a threat. When Parker and Hailee had not come to him, he'd decided that he'd ended up somewhere that they could not go.

Which meant that he was on his own. Not a very comforting thought considering where he was. He did not continue calling out for his friends, instead opting for remaining as silent as he could. After he'd been walking for a while in the forest, he was forced to stop. In front of him was Nyla though..as he calmly gazed at her it seemed that she was perhaps frightened, thought he could not be sure. He'd seen her stop abruptly, something he was certain she wouldn't have done otherwise.

He was silent for a long moment, tilting his head to the side while he regarded her. "Nyla?" He finally asked, waiting for her to confirm that she was indeed Nyla. He gave her a few long moments before he continued. "Parker was worried about you. He said that he could not follow you after I left the cemetery. Are you alright?" He watched her intently, trying to see if anything was truly wrong with her. Though they cared nothing for each other, he would let nothing happen to her.

"Where are we? This is a place that I am not familiar with." He admitted to her. He was nearly certain that she would laugh at him or say something cruel, however, he wanted to know. It was bothering him greatly that he was left being so confused. He simply wanted some answers.

Nyla could see her breath in front of her and her skin was even fairer now, yet she was more alive her. He lips pained blood read and her eyes popped with black eye shadow and wingtip liner, she was simply stunning in her world, she’d be just as stunning in the real world if she wasn’t locked up like an animal. She kept her auburn eyes on the wolf, waiting for it to attack like she assumed it would. She’d been attacked by the shadow wolves before and when she woke up, she really had been attacked.

"Nyla?" The wolf spoke then catching her off guard and somehow even though she’d never heard his name, she knew exactly what it was in her world, it was Ryley. "Parker was worried about you. He said that he could not follow you after I left the cemetery. Are you alright?" he spoke calmly and she was dumbfounded, it had to be a trick of her own mind or perhaps Damien’s sick twisted games. "Where are we? This is a place that I am not familiar with." he admitted.

She was utterly confused. Was it really him or just a version of him she’d dreamed up after their argument? Why was he there? How had he gotten there? None of it made sense to her and she let the silence hang for a moment, before she heard a twig break in the distance and she remembered that they were in the white forest and they needed to get to the church or it could end badly for both of them.

"I can’t tell you right now" she finally said walking towards him, her senses on high alert. "Just trust me, it’s dangerous here, we have to get to the church. He can’t get us there and will be safe. I’ll explain everything there." she said kneeling down in front of the wolf, petting between his ears. He was beautiful, there was a spark when she pet him, but she chose to ignore that for the moment, she held his eyes for a moment longer before standing. "Keep up, okay. Don’t lose me. You’ll end up dead." she said honestly, hoping he wouldn’t argue. Nyla had always been nicer, more pleasant in her own world, because she felt more at home. She didn't constently feel threatened.

She started off in the direction she knew the church was in. She knew the layout of her dream world, better then she knew herself. The forest grew dark the deeper the went, she didn’t fear for her own life. If it was really Ryley and he wasn’t just part of her subconscious, he really could die and it would be all her fault.

As Ryley continued watching Nyla, he could see that she was surprised to see him. "I can’t tell you right now" she finally said walking towards him, her senses on high alert. "Just trust me, it’s dangerous here, we have to get to the church. He can’t get us there and will be safe. I’ll explain everything there." Nyla said, kneeling down. This seemed a odd action..or it would have seemed odd if he'd not suddenly realized that Nyla was taller than him. He was uncertain when she'd gotten so tall. When she reached his level, Ryley realized that they were eyeing each other easily now.

The young woman patted his head and he gazed at her with what could only be described as confusion. The moment she touched him, Ryley froze. It was not often that he allowed anyone to touch him. If he was being honest with himself, he'd felt something when her hand had touch his head. He quickly pushed the thought from his mind as Nyla continued. "Keep up, okay. Don’t lose me. You’ll end up dead."

He was forced to look up at her, realizing that she'd stood. She was being..nice to him. Something he'd not thought possible from her. As Nyla headed off, Ryley quickly followed after her. Right now, she seemed to know what was going on and what to do. He decided that it was best to listen to her. Ryley found that Nyla was quite fast and was forced to pick up the pace. He was near her side, keeping close to her. Regardless of all the things he'd been put through in the past, Ryley did not wish to die. He still held the hope that he would someday get out of Winterborne.

He glanced at Nyla for a moment. She seemed just so..different to him. Ryley just could not understand it. The forest had become darker the father they went. He was nearly on her heels as they continued. He would not lose her. Ryley realized that something was after them. It was most likely the reason she was so intent upon reaching the church. Perhpas it was the only safe place. He tried to push her along which had translated into him nipping at her heels with his sharp teeth. The sooner they reached this church, the better as far as Ryley was concerned.

They walked for a while in silence and if Nyla hadn’t been with Ryley he probably wouldn’t be alive. Simply because, what he didn’t know is she’d been wearing a protective barrier around them. She’d been concentrating on protecting him and keeping him safe. She wasn’t sure how he’d managed to pass through the veil between reality and her world, but that last person who’d done it, had been Damien. He was a patient at Winterborne once, the only person Nyla had really connected with and when he’d passed through the veil he’d gotten stuck in her world. Then when Nyla was around because of her own emotions affecting her world he’d started to change until it wasn’t him anymore and he was feeding off Nyla’s darkest emotions. She’d literally trapped and destroyed a human, turned him into a monster and she wasn’t about to let that happened again.

Once they ended up outside the church Nyla pushed the large doors open and gestured for Ryley to go in and she followed after him. Like always the inside of the church was in immaculate, while the outside made you question whether or not you should even attempt to go inside. Nyla was honest when she’d said he couldn’t touch them there, that they were safe. It was the only safe place in her world, where no one, up until this morning, could enter. She lend against one of the pews running her fingers through her long dark hair.

She flicked her eyes to the wolf. Why was he a wolf? Damien had been himself when he’d crossed over. Nyla raked her eyes over him curiously. His dark blue/gray fur was nothing short of brilliant and his eyes were beautifully piercing. The only explanation she had, that made any sense was that his wolf form, was what he identified with, the truth to his personality. The was the only real sane explination she could muster.

"You shouldn’t be here." she finally said though it wasn’t harsh like she normally was it was calm and her voice was smooth like velvet. "You see, where you can see spirits. I can create dreams and make your worst nightmares come to life." she explained letting him know that he knew that his seeing spirits wasn’t just a figment of his imagination or a delusion it was very real and as much as she didn’t want to admit it she knew it the second he mentioned Parker. "You escape through them. They help you cope with your life at Winterborne. " She breathed holding his eyes, referring to what he saw “the visions” as his doctor referred to them as. "This is my escape." she said simply "And, somehow you managed to crossover. However, staying her to long, will drive you into insanity. There are things here that your mind could not even fathom." she spoke honestly. "The darkness will consume you, I have to get you back." she sighed.

Ryley continued following Nyla. He was glad to see the church coming into view. It didn't take them long to reach it and Nyla opened the door and gestured for him to enter first. He did so, moving slowly through the aisle, looking about. As Nyla came to lean against one of the pews, Ryley stopped and turned to look at her. She was soon looking at him and he simply tilted his head as he returned her gaze. "You shouldn’t be here." Nyla said.

The man sighed. "As if I want to be here. You can thank your brother for that." He looked away from the woman. Nyla ignored his comment, continuing. "You see, where you can see spirits. I can create dreams and make your worst nightmares come to life." At this, Ryley returned his gaze to Nyla, surprise shinning in his eyes. "You escape through them. They help you cope with your life at Winterborne. This is my escape. And, somehow you managed to crossover. However, staying her to long, will drive you into insanity. There are things here that your mind could not even fathom. The darkness will consume you, I have to get you back."

Ryley slowly moved a bit closer to Nyla, looking up at her. "Look, I would be more than happy to get out of here. But..I don't know how and unless you've got a idea, you're stuck with me." He suddenly moved from, making his way on down the aisle. The inside of the church was beautifully created, something that was easy to see. Ryley was quite intrigued by it. He had no idea why she was being so different here. It was like she was a completely different person. He was actually..fairly liking her like this.

"So, why would you be so concerned for my safety? Earlier you seemed more than happy to to threaten to kill me yourself." He hopped up on one of the pews, sitting with his back to Nyla. He didn't like not knowing what to do. He wanted nothing more than to get back to Winterborne..something he wasn't happy about. He hated Winterborne and yet it felt like the better choice..at least right now.

She wasn’t entirely sure how she was going to get him out of there. Nor was she entirely sure why she cared all that much. The honest truth was her world was probably a million times better then WInterborne, but what had happened to Damien, no matter how she felt about Ryley, she didn’t want it happening to him. She knew how to get out, the answer for her was simple, either someone had to wake her up or she’d have to wait to wake up on her own. Ryley however, she had no idea how to get him out.

"Look, I would be more than happy to get out of here. But..I don't know how and unless you've got a idea, you're stuck with me." he said pulling her from her thoughts and she glanced to the wolf as he made his way down the aisle towards the alter of the church. "So, why would you be so concerned for my safety? Earlier you seemed more than happy to to threaten to kill me yourself." he said and she watched as he hopped onto one of the pews, his back turned to her.

She made her way down the aisle herself, walking over to one of the stain glass windows. Outside rain had started to pour. It was peaceful, at least for now until something decided to change course or Nyla’s emotions got out of control. She glanced from the window to Ryley his back still turned to her and she wonder for a moment if he had something to down with the calmness of her mind, but she didn’t dwell on the thought. She didn’t want to believe that. She glanced back out the window, only to see the glow of eyes in the darkness, through the rain watching them, waiting for them to come out. She left the window and continued down the aisle until she reached the pew he was sitting at only she sat in the one across the aisle from his.

It was silent, then again it wasn’t really silence. The rain on the roof above and the forlorn, distant chanting that had always sliced through the silence filled the air around them. She wasn’t exactly sure what to say to him, after she’d attacked him early he had every right to hate her, hell she hated herself, but that was nothing new. She traced the lines in the palm of her hand as she focused on soft sound of the rain.

"It’s not your safety that I’m particularly concerned for." she finally spoke. "It is your sanity. Because while we are both mad in our on rights, everyone is." she said simply.

She glanced up to see that same girl sitting in front of her, peering at her through a waterfall of pitch black hair, the girl was terrifying and she wondered if Ryley could see her and if he could would he knew what the girl signified. Nyla knew it was absolutely necessary to keep herself calm and so she closed her eyes taking a deep breath and when she opened her eyes the figure of the girl was gone and so she continued to speak.

"But, madness is a state of mind that we can choose to ignore or embrace. We have choose to embrace it and that’s why were at Winterborne." she explained, voice soft. "Sanity however is something you must fight to keep intact and insanity is something that cannot be cured, with medication or therapy." she sighed running her fingers through her long hair. "So in short, I guess it is your person that I care for, not you specifically." she glanced to him a smirk on her blood red painted lips. "I’m not a total cold heart bitch." she said raising a brow keeping her eyes on the wolf.

Ryley could hear Nyla moving though he still refused to look at her. The sound of the rain was soothing and it helped to calm him. He took a deep breath. He really shouldn't be taking his frustration out on Nyla. "It’s not your safety that I’m particularly concerned for. It is your sanity. Because while we are both mad in our on rights, everyone is." Her words caused him to finally look at her. She was silent for a moment and he wondered what was causing her silence. "But, madness is a state of mind that we can choose to ignore or embrace. We have choose to embrace it and that’s why were at Winterborne. Sanity however is something you must fight to keep intact and insanity is something that cannot be cured, with medication or therapy. So in short, I guess it is your person that I care for, not you specifically. I’m not a total cold heart bitch." She finished.

Her eyes were on him and Ryley found himself returning her gaze. He remained silent, thinking over her words for a long moment. When he finally spoke, he was fairly quiet. "And what makes you think that I'm not insane? You do realize that is part of the reason my family brought me to Winterborne. According to them, no sane person would ever try to kill their entire family." He paused, his gaze settling upon Nyla. "You know, I could almost like you if you weren't such a bitch all of the time."

He was smiling, looking at her fully. It was his way of saying that he did not truly hate her, regardless of what had happened earlier. "Parker thinks highly of you and honestly I thought him mad. But, I can see what he sees. At least here." Ryley suddenly got down from the pew he'd been sitting upon and slowly made his way over to Nyla. He then joined her, sitting next to her. "So, are we stuck here until what happens?" He was at least trying to be kind to her, thinking that perhaps she wasn't truly as bad as he'd first thought.

It was silent for a long moment as she held his gaze. She hated that he was stuck there. They couldn’t hide forever in that damn church, eventually they’d have to leave and if Damien caught them he’d hurt Ryley and she wouldn’t be able to live with herself.

"And what makes you think that I'm not insane? You do realize that is part of the reason my family brought me to Winterborne. According to them, no sane person would ever try to kill their entire family." She listened to him, but she didn’t answer, she knew he wasn’t insane, simply because he was just like her, she could see it, they were just different and when humanity couldn’t explain something they couldn’t control, they were afraid of it. "You know, I could almost like you if you weren't such a bitch all of the time." She smirked, raising and eyebrow.

She was sure a lot of people could honestly like her if she was more like the girl she was in her world, that was the real her after all. At Winterborne, she’d lost so much of herself that it was hard to remember who she was at all. She was nothing but an empty shell and it wasn’t like she could be herself there anyways.

"Parker thinks highly of you and honestly I thought him mad. But, I can see what he sees. At least here. So, are we stuck here until what happens?" he said as he hopped up onto the pew next to her.

She let silence fall between them for a long moment, her hands in her lap as she thought. She ran her fingers along the tattoo on her forearm, like she did most times when she was thinking. She knew how to get out when she was alone, she just had to wait, but with him she wasn’t sure. Time seemed to work very differently between the real world and her dreamscape.

"I’m not entirely sure." she finally admitted. "You being here throws the balance off, so either we have to wait until someone wakes us up or we wake up ourselves." she sighed running her fingers through her long raven colored hair.

"You two are going to be here a while." A familiar voice came from behind them and Nyla stood up turning to see her brother walking towards them and it was really him again. "He’s outside and boy is he pissed that you found a way to crossover.” Parker smirked glancing to Ryley.

"How the hell did you get here?" Nyla breathed shocked.

"You know sis, you weren’t the only one who was different." Parker said as he paused in front of Nyla and Ryley. "I may be dead, but I’m not really dead. After your boyfriend had his hissy fit and locked me out, I found another way in." he explained calmly, before glancing to Ryley. "Sorry, for throwing you under the bus and getting you stuck here, but all the fur is a good look for you." he teased Ryley. "Oh and she insisted on following" Ryley rolled his eyes as Hailee was headed towards the three of them looking less than happy.

Silence fell between them and Ryley did not break it. He simply allowed his gaze to rest on the young woman at his side. As he regarded her, his eyes followed her slight movement of her hand. Nyla finally spoke and Ryley's eyes raised up to the woman's face. "I’m not entirely sure. You being here throws the balance off, so either we have to wait until someone wakes us up or we wake up ourselves."

Ryley was unable to say anything as the voice of Parker suddenly drifted from behind them. "You two are going to be here a while. He’s outside and boy is he pissed that you found a way to crossover.” Ryley quickly turned back, looking at the the man as he walked towards him and Nyla. The woman had stood, most likely shocked at actually seeing her brother. Regardless of the fact that his friend spoke to him, Ryley remained silent..for now.

He looked to Nyla, watching her closely. He had no idea how she'd react to seeing her brother. "How the hell did you get here?"

"You know sis, you weren’t the only one who was different. I may be dead, but I’m not really dead. After your boyfriend had his hissy fit and locked me out, I found another way in." Parker said. He'd come to stand before him and Nyla and Ryley was concentrating on the man. Suddenly, Parker was looking at him. "Sorry, for throwing you under the bus and getting you stuck here, but all the fur is a good look for you. Oh and she insisted on following"

He had no idea what Parker was talking about. Fur? What fur? However, he was quick to look on behind Parker to see Hailee quickly approaching them..and she looked pissed. "It's..fine. But, what are you talking about? I have no..fur." He said, ignoring Hailee for the moment.

As he waited for Parker to speak, Hailee came to stand behind him, eyeing him. He noted she was paying the other woman no mind. Actually, if he didn't know any better he'd say that Hailee was actually making it a point to ignore the woman. Suddenly, Hailee shoved Ryley off of the pew. He didn't even try to stop himself from falling. He landed upon his back, looking up at the dead woman.

"You asshole! You think ignoring me all week and then walking off after this slut is okay? Since when do you care about her? And you.." Hailee was suddenly turning her gaze to Nyla, "I don't even know what to say to you." Ryley slowly got up from the ground getting back upon the pew. However, he made sure that there was some space between him and Hailee. He was certain that Nyla had no idea why Hailee was action so crazy. "You crazy bitch. I only left because Parker asked me to." Ryley could see that Hailee was quite pissed at him and he would have to somehow make it up to her.

Once an Item has been created, it can be spawned in the IC using /spawn Item Name (case-sensitive, as usual) — this can be followed with /take Item Name to retrieve the item into the current character's inventory.

Mobs

Give your Universe life by adding a Mob, which are auto-replenishing NPCs your players can interact with. Useful for some quick hack-and-slash fun!

Mobs can be automated spawns, like rats and bats, or full-on NPCs complete with conversation menus. Use them to enhance your player experience!
