Q: What's all this hullabaloo?
I'll tell you what all this hullabaloo is! Why, it's none other than a jolly old art-potluck of sorts, where doodles and doonabs relating to the day's theme will be swapped. It's a revamp of this old thread which unfortunately trickled out sometime ago. Numbers fuel motivation and foster creativity; when you have several people all striving for the same goal, great things can be birthed. The point of this is to mesh fun time with internet friends and practice of a sometimes daunting task into one, big e-extravaganza.

"Do not fail, as you go on, to draw something every day, for no matter how little it is, it will be well worth while, and it will do you a world of good." - Cennino Cennini

Q: What if I can't draw?
Oh, don't be so shy. Get on out there, kid, and let 'er rip. Flex those sketchin' muscles and show the world what you've got to offer. This is a postive environment meant for artists of all shapes and sizes, novices and pros alike. If you really aren't comfortable publically posting your works, feel free to peep around instead. Hell, you can even PM them underneath a secure veil of ambiguity and mystery if you want to share but on not in such a public place. Or if you wanna remain anonymous, I could post it for you! I figure not many people will face these sorts of dilemmas, but I want to make sure that anyone who wants to participate can.

Q: Do I have to do the sketch every day?
Nope! If you're not feeling a theme, no one's forcing you to do it (though it would help your creative processing skills to push forward through the block regardless). You can pick and choose however you like, but a cohesive unit/ team would be nice, too.

Q: I wasn't here for the beginning of this! Can I still etch and sketch with all the other reindeer?
Of course. Just jump right in on the day that you finally stumbled upon this thread. No need to do the other day's sketches, either! Unless you want to, naturally. I'm not the boss of you!

Q: Will there actually be a new theme every day?
Well, that's certainly the idea. Of course, some days can be busier than others, and there might be times when a day or two slip under the radar, but those should be mere exceptions.

Q: Rules?
Don't be an assbutt. Try not to post HUGE images that stretch the board. Don't be extremely harsh with critiques if the person didn't ask for it (that kind of goes under not being an assbutt). Yeah, that's about it.

Q: I've had enough of your snarky malarkey and your insertion of words in my mouth!
I guess I was playing you pretty out of character, wasn't I? I'm terribly sorry.

Q: I forgive you. Now how do I join this party?
Simple enough! Fill out this ridiculous introduction form in whichever way you deem right and proper so that the group gets a feel for who you are. Please note that literally all of it is optional. After that, post your sketch! Wow, what a complex system.

Do you want your work critiqued? Not really, they're just doodles; I'm not expecting quality, and neither should you :P :3
And all that other jazz (anything else): I can pretty much only draw chibi's and disproportionate anime-esque characters :P Annnnnnd I absolutely adore random smileys in messages, even when completely inappropriate, ":P" Faces specifically, which I personally perceive as a face of amusement/general good will. So no offence intended by the sea of ":P"s. Fairly often I slip between extremely formal and ridiculously informal speech patterns, I've absolutely no idea why, but I can't much say I mind :P Also, also, tiny font is, like, awesome-saucin and you know it :P

No idea what today/yesterday/tommorow's Theme is/was/will be, but here's a "Mother Flippin' Awesome AverageBear Flippin' a Mother" :3 Seemed Appropriate :P
I definitely just scraped this, er, "Piece" together in like fifteen minutes tops to post in this thread before tomorrow starts :P...Which I've sadly missed by like 11 minutes now, NOOOOOOOOO ;3; Oh wellsies, still the first-ish to post :P 'Tis an honor oh glorious Art Thread, truly :3

And my poop-tastic sketch stands as proof that the quality of doodles don't matter :B A-hur-hur-hur. I also obviously have no clue as to the workings of a bears anatomical structure xD Although I do know they have purple tongues :P

do you want your work critiqued? Sure.
if you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be? ...That's a tough one. Hiccup, from How To Train Your Dragon? I don't necessarily read much fiction, m'self.
interests/hobbies/etc: Art and Reading. I'm a pretty boring dude.
and all that other jazz (anything else): I don't necessarily know what to put, here. My style is pretty simplistic when I'm sketching, and I don't mind giving a splash of color every now and then.

I think this is a good idea, and I've wanted to participate in one of these little things for a while. I guess I lacked the motivation to do so, or the community to stay in. So, hopefully I'm going to stick around.

Either way, I look forward to being a part of it!

AAAAW YEEEEAAAAH. Hello to both of you and THANK YOU. Your bears are fantastical. I love them.

I was whisked away out of nowhere yesterday so I'm on my phone now, but I'll be home later today to upload my daily doodly doo and my introduction sheet, not to mention a more decent response. I figured I should pop in to give today's theme at a decent time, at least.

So, in the spirit of introductions, day one's theme is an infamous SELF PORTRAIT. Feel free to go as abstract or silly as you like with this one.

Alright. I gave it a shot. I was never really too good at drawing myself, though this is far less half-arsed than the drawing I'd done for my introduction. d: Took around... 30 minutes? Lots of erasing and moving.

Excuse me while I squawk like an imbecile and then shit on my desk over how LOVELY CURT'S SKETCHES ARE. Your lines are so fresh so fine, sir. And I really loved How to Train Your Dragon. I really hope you do stick around!

Also, Nori, I'm so glad you and your chibi-icon-makin'-self snuggled on in with me over here. :'> Cute as always. I like your use of emoticons! It makes everything seem so casual.

Okay, I'm gonna fill out my introduction but I'm still stranded out at my friend's house. On the bright side, I'm stranded because we were adventuring like mad. We went into these crazy underground tunnels used for collecting rain water and I painted this mural on the inside! Naturally, it proceeded to pour and we were flushed out. It was actually pretty scary but I felt like a teenage mutant ninja turtle afterward, so it's all good.

do you want your work critiqued? always!
if you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be? Oh gosh, I didn't realize how hard this one was until I was filling it out myself. Hhhhhh. I'm taking a stab at Lumpy Space Princess. EDIT: ACTUALLY NO. I decided that instead I'm going to be The Grand Duke of Owls from Rock-a-Doodle. If you haven't see this gem, I'm pretty sure it's on Netflix and it positively reeks of my childhood.
interests/hobbies/etc: being terrible at talking about myself, leaving pennies upturned on heads, and spending nearly all of my time doing nothing, in that respective order.
and all that other jazz (anything else): My art style is called fart style. I major primarily in sculpture/ceramics in the harrowing abyss that is highschool, but I really, really love doodlin' and stuff. I'm workin' on a webcomic that should be out by the end of summer, which is kind of exciting. Man, I'm bad at this whole "first impression" stuff. OH WELL.

Also, here's my """""""""""""self portrait""""""""""""""". I normally use a tablet, but, as I said, I'm at my friends house. I was just gonna do it tomorrow but then I remembered what this whole thing was about so I whipped out some blank paper from the printer and took to ink and brush. I only had about ten minutes tops to work on it before my quote unquote friends peered over my shoulder, so I snapped my ink brush in half (ok not really but I wanted to) and decided I'd just take a low quality cell phone picture to show you guys. I haven't done traditional work in a long time so please forgive me. G-Gomen.... Baka-bear in the house. u___u

I would totally shower your work with praise Curt, but I fear taking up the entire page in a mad rant over how how incredibly awesome I perceive it to be. Soooooo, yeah, instead, just a quick blurb over how your art is, like, super fantabulous and I'm digging the style something fierce :P

....Apparently this is me. On my stool, lookin' all snippy sippin' my tea, probably about to fall off and break a knee ._. ....Why yes, I did just intentionally do that for the sole sake of a rhyme :B a-hur-hur. Probably should have checked the canvas size before I started too :P....at some point I have to stop starting these all after 11:30 xD

I adamantly refuse to properly join in on this until Avs gets up and does some GM-y things. Image

That said, I did cave a little bit, so here's one single picture and no more in which I ruined and abused these lovable children's characters and didn't even take off the watermarks illustrated the general on-and-off love-hate relationship between Averagebear and I:

Ahahahaha, Wudge, I'm finally home now! That picture is very accurate though. Just look at your knowing grin as you tempt me with your delicious cookies. My extreme concern yet mild grasp on geniality and poor use of syntax. It's a perfect double portrait if I've ever seen one.

Nori, shut your lil' mouth you cutie patootie. My way of dressing is elderly-hag-cowboy couture. Snippy sippy Nori baby, your portrait is so adorable. Gosh.

Prompt: Monster Under the Bed
Date: 7/16-7/17
I technically began yesterday's prompt yesterday, in a mad dash to finish it before tomorrow/today began, but it was finished late, as usual, and shall now be posted...20-ish minutes into this morning...as all of my doodles seem to be posted around then :P Edit: I added the Right one in fifteen minutes later, as it holds closer to both prompts for yesterday and today :P...and doesn't BURN THE EYES xD :P

I blame Lady Gaga for my first abomination of an Under-the-Bed Monster, I was listening to her music in some foolish notion it would prove inspirational somehow...it didn't ._. The reason my abomination's lounging in a chair is due to the fact that I recently moved my Bed Frame out in anticipation of a new bed, thus, there exists no under bed. Which is what the abomination-Gaga monster is exclaiming in tiny font, well "What happened to your BEDFRAME, HMMMHR?!" technically :P :3 She was supposed to be goat legged and part skeleton, but, er, yeaaaaaaah. Tommorow/Today's Prompt A-hoyyyyyy~

As always, I love your work Average and that adorable terrified little pink blob monster is to die for <3

...Oops. I forgot about this, so I'm a tad late. Thanks, Nori and Averagebear! You need to stop helping my ego, it's getting to the point where I'm going to start renting it out at children's parties as a makeshift bounce castle! Ahah. I kid. I appreciate the comments, they mean a lot.

So, I guess I got a little carried away with this one. Excuse the size if you will, I already scaled it down quite a bit. (And if it's too big and the forum resizes it, the direct link is here. I was going for a little bit of a storybook-esque feel, though I don't quite know if I'd gotten the vibe across correctly. It'd probably be better off with color, but I'm far too lazy to add any.

Okay as vaguely promised, here I am.

Image

preferred call name: What, like those cutesy hooker nicknames? Cinnamon Cherrybun or some shit? Bwahahhaha. Wudge will suffice, but alternate endearing monikers are welcome.

preferred pronoun: The general consensus here seems to be that I'm a transvestite. Regardless, I really don't care, and it's something of a big pet peeve of mine when chickadees are like "OMG I'm not a 'dude' or 'bro', I'm a girl!!! (>.<)"
So, you won't find me doing anything stupid like that.
Anyway, self-portrait's to the right, judge me gender for yourself. All you need to know is that I'm the local queen of testosterone. And I'm adorable.

do you want your work critiqued? Sure, why not?
I'll also willingly offer critiques... at which point everyone who's received a proper shredding character sheet critique from me before winces like they stabbed themselves in the gums with a sharp popsicle, I'm sure. But don't worry! I'll be gentle; this is a roleplaying site, not an art site. :) I have far less reason to expect perfection in this wee thread.

if you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be? Y'know... I adore characters, but I don't find myself wanting to swap lives with any of them. But if you asked me "Which character would you abduct out of their world adopt and house in your cramped duplex and forcefeed cereal and love forever," well then.
That said, being Emperor Kuzco for a bit wouldn't be half-bad of a time.

interests/hobbies/etc: Dissecting what makes fictitious scenarios emotionally compelling, molesting my cats like one of those overbearing aunties just to make them squirm and freak out, angsting about how I don't draw enough, napping when I should be doing other things, scribbling notes when I should be sleeping, reading character sheets in which the writer knows what they're doing, acting like a cocky bastard, bitching about terrible characterization.........
ON A BRIGHTER NOTE: squeeing over 2D animations and great stories and great characters, bellydancing, casual cosplaying (Hildegard Valentine, Harley Quinn, and Princess Bubblegum in my arsenal of exploits), checking out my reflection and making weird flirty faces, dopey animu dances, Volbeat, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Oda Eiichiro, Hiroyuki Nishimori, Jensen Ackles, Jude Law, Kristin Chenoweth, Alphonse Mucha, John Singer Sargent, Shaun Healey, Jan de Ruth.

and all that other jazz (anything else): Nah!

Threw the self-portrait together really quick, and I'll maybe see what I can do about those prompts in the coming days.

Curtsive: Holy balls look at them all, I love it. Best eerie child-kidnapping party ever. ALL THOSE DETAILS.
Nori: For some reason I'm extremely fascinated by that baby cradle. I love that baby cradle.
Curtsive's newest thing has baby cradles, too--what is with you people and these cradles?
Average: YOU DON'T LOOK LIKE THAT PICTURE YOU SHOWED ME A YEAR AGOOO. The way you've outlined your <3Bro<3 manly man (and maybe also the newspaper-comicish color choice?) reminds me of a lot of the style in Griff's profile. I think this is a very good influence.

Oh, back to Curtsive real quick--I've seen you around, but I've never checked out your page--so when I noticed you drew all your own OC icons I sorta spazzed in admiration. Just so you know.

curt, haha! Don't worry. I'm the least punctual person in the world. Many people can attest to this. I love the composition in your monsters under the bed! Your contours are awesome.

Wudge, I'm formally apologizing for adding the pronoun part of the sheet. I put it in to avoid the "I'M NOT A DUUUUDE!" reaction, specifically. Emperor Kuzco is my favorite Disney princess. Also, you're SUCH A LITTLE MINX! I like your hair! It's very fancy. And I change how I look like every day of the week. And I'm really terrible at drawing myself. Curt: adndnsjhwjbd, that's ridiculously flippin' awesome :O The vines growing out of the main monster/dinosaurs' eye holding up the bed, the ridiculously detailed cribs with accompanying mobiles, and the vaguely creeper-looking-Kirby-thing are definitely my favorite parts; but I love it all over all <3 ...alas, I'm horrible at not stroking egos xD, sorry dude, you just make it far too hard for me to resist with your fantabulous art :P

Oh, Average, you giant goofball face, the mini rant wasn't directed at your field. <3 Here, let me translate my coarse little self:
"If ever I want to call you 'dude' or 'bro' (these two words specifically) I am very goddang well gonna and I better not hear any whining. And you can call me whatever you want, I won't beat you up. Had someone call me BUTTHEAD and I sure didn't beat him up. Onetrickpony."
Point was, I'm not going to get mortally wounded by pronouns or nonsense, and neither should you be. OKAY? xD
KIPPERY that was the name, woooo. <3 Oh my gosh I have nothing else to add but this terrible elaboration on a misunderstanding, how lame.
Uh.
((((edit: OH. Forgot to comment on the kitty! Average. Average oh my goodness that tail is just. And the tongue. And the everything. I want to adopt this animal ten times over. Any cuteness I try to come up with would pale in comparison, fwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. <3))) Here. It's our babies perfectly captured in monkey form.

NOWI! No way! I think that's super duper sweet of you. c: I like praise--especially specific praise that tells me what I'm doing right, you know? So I can keep doing it and shiz. xD
Only possible exception is when I'm really specifically asking for criticism, and people be showing up like "NUH UH YOU'RE PERFECT...." Then I might start breathing fire, ahahahaha. Because they're outright lying, there's always something to improve. >:P
Anyway, thanks! Shame the character's owner never came back, but you appreciate her, so that makes me pretty happy. :) <3

Ah... this post doesn't have a picture attached... OTLLL

And gee. I bet I'm scaring off all the prospectives, aren't I... Ahahahaaa...... I swear I'm way nicer than I come across. :| I just have this thing about trying to be as honest as humanly possible, ehehe. Seriously, I'll love you if you'll love me. <3333

Alright. I neglected to say anything in the thread about the art as of thus far, because ... I have no idea, really. I think I was just oblivious to the fact that everyone else was doing so. Regardless, I'm going to atone for my actions. I can't really guarantee any constructive criticism, honestly, because I'm pretty shitty at doing so.

Nori: Since you requested no criticism on your artwork, I won't do so. I'll say that I enjoy the linework you displayed in your Self-Portrait image, done on July 15th. I don't really know why, but I am a sucker for bold lines. Even though you intentionally take upon an anime / 'chibi' style, your style seems to be one in it's own, which is a trait in it that I can admire.

Additionally, thanks again for the compliments. d:

Bear: Oh, do I enjoy your style. It's very distinctive, and you certainly know how to use your lines. Although I do see a few anatomy mistakes in your work (primarily, the monsters under the bed themed one), it feels as if they're incorporated into your style and done intentionally. The textures and coloring techniques you use are quite unique, and they fit together well. I can't really say anything negative about your work; I admire it.

Wudge: I don't think I've seen much of your work on this thread to critique so far, but I'm going to be ridiculously redundant and say again that I admire your style, particularly in your self-portrait. It feels very... disney-esque? For a reason I can't put my finger on. The light shading you implied in your self-portrait looks fantastic, and you seem to have a pretty good grasp on shading.

I don't particularly know about criticism as of thus, as I haven't seen enough of your work to point out consistent flaws.

Thanks for noticing the characters. d: I plan on hooking them all up with better icons sometime soon.

Moving on... (I THINK I addressed everything?) I originally just intended to skip this prompt, but the fact that I wanted to respond to people in the thread without feeling a little lazy stopped me from doing that. I'm not that great at drawing 'cute' things, so I took my own spin off it.

Nori, yes, join the dark side of kitten cuteness. Our magical kitty paws will rule this world one day!

Oh, Wudge, I'm glad to here that. :''''') You should beat Trick up. I like having his name italicized. It should be like that always, his username only bitterly muttered alongside a shaking fist. I gotcha point, babes! I agree with it entirely! Also, THANK YOU. I'm actually pretty bad at drawing cute things. These prompts have mostly been/ are mostly gonna be me forcing myself to draw things that I don't waaaaanna or am bad at, probably. Am I a masochist yet? WUDGE. WUDGE THAT PICTURE. IT IS OUR APE-TURNED CHILDREN. I am speechless by how perfect that is.

Cuuuuuuuuuuuurt that is the cutest thing I've ever laid my eyes upon. When I travel to the underworld, that thing will be my guide dog... thing....???? Also, thank you! The compliments mean a lot. In case you couldn't tell by my ranting and raving before, I feel generally the same about your work, as well, ahahaha.

Alright, sorry for this being late again. I only woke up about an hour ago!

Theme: Siblings.
Date: 7/18/12.

Critiquing is welcomed.

Since I still have not acquired a Tablet, or something of the like, I hand-drew this.

It took a long time.

I am tired.

Hahaha jeeez I think I hate doing things digitally now; this took so long despite being really, really simple, and my style is normally a wee bit more realistic looking on paper. xD Ah well, I'm also trying to keep up the practice of using a tabby tab.
Anyway, this was my break from the "Cutest" theme (which I'm STILL WORKING ON aaargh).

Avs, did you know I would bite to draw these two? Bet you did.
These two are Lucas and Luanna. He's pretty much a big butt to her growing up (because of their age difference and him being a crappy teenager) and she usually doesn't give two fucks and is supportive towards him anyway.
Why is she so white while he's so dark even though they're fully related by blood? Well, maybe there's an in-story reason, or MAYBE I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DOING, EVER THOUGHT OF THAT??
It's because she's a diseased little penguin, though she just sorta looks Asian hahahaha. Bah. That she's so skinny isn't purely a stylistic choice, either. xD

Ah... I've been feeling really sick, so I'll have to pass on commenting and responding today. Sorry guys. OTL Too much writing like mad for roleplays staring at the screen, I think.
I'm gonna try to force myself to take a break from the compooper tomorrow, so "Cutest" is going to be even later than I planned noooooo
