Science and Philosophy

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby dealing with it on Sun Feb 07, 2021 4:14 pm

Does philosophy have a place in a scientific world? Are we wasting our time when we speculate about metaphysics, epistemology, or ethics? Do questions like "what does it mean to be?", or "what does it mean to know something?", or "what should we do with our lives?" have relevance in our era?

When we discuss the philosophy of science, do scientists care? Or will they proceed in their enterprise no matter what philosophers say? What is that enterprise?

Very interesting question. I think Willhelm Hegel's idea that the "rational alone is real" ties into the thought very nicely. Also why stop at "what does it mean to be"? One should ask, "what does it mean to be relevant in our era?" or "What does it mean to care"

Not caring makes one a misologist, and not having an opinion on philosophy makes one a philosopher.
