If Ray dreamed, he didn't remember it.
When he awoke, it was because a piercing call echoed through his head. He groaned and clutched at his temples, already feeling the headache coming on. The dead branches of the oak tree he was lain beside looked almost stunning against the deep blue of the sky and the red and magenta the sun was casting across the sapphire span. He smiled a little bit. It seemed almost unrealistic, that beauty could exist in the world of atrociousness the witch's reign had brought upon the country.
He wiped off his trousers and stood. The sparse pieces of battle armour lodged in his pack would stay there; travelling with heavy equipment was a pain. He stood and stretched for a moment, then reached out gently, ever so gently, with his mind, and still he could feel the warm presenses of the surrounding animals- there were only three or four. "Is everybody awake?" he said to Br'nard, whom was standing by the waking Ezekiel. Alasse was beside him. "C'mon!" he called across the camp, though it was unnessasary, it looked like everyone was up. People were appearing out of trees, grassy spots, the sky. "We should get going," said Ray.
