Kai shifted his weight to his other foot, hugging Apple tightly back. He frowned and bit his bottom lip, running through options in his mind. What could he say to her? He didn't have a clue. "I don't know..." he mumbled out, hardly audible, yet still it echoed throughout the dark, empty halls of the castle. He had to say something else. He was the older brother, he was the protector, the one who always knew what was going, the one who knew everything, the one who always had an answer. What was the answer? He looked down into her eyes and offered a weak smile, ruffling her already messy bedhead. "Maybe it means something, you know? Maybe someone else knows something we don't know." He paused. He had a question he was dying to ask,

Apple, what is your secret? But he refused to ask it.

"Anyway," he started, pulling away from her and putting a hand on her back to lead her along with him. "We're both up now. Wanna go snag some breakfast? If we get there early, maybe we can pester Arnold about taking too long to make our food." He yawned and snickered at this. Arnold, the cook, was never up this early in the morning. But he was a snobby man, regardless, and always called them brats. So, Kai retaliated by picking on him for taking too long to make his happy face eggs.
