Serenity was overly exited about going inside the Himuro Mansion, the very mansion where the journalists were said to have gone missing! She didn’t quite believe in ghosts, but she wanted to. The thought of some otherworldly being was much more exiting than, 'it was just the wind'. Kaylee was now leading, obviously she didn’t do any better, she only got a cut hand out of her blunt attempt of penetrating the houses door, it still tingled with pain but it was slowly fading. She trudged behind her sister now, distracted by the sound of Kaylee’s boots. Serenity often becomes unfocused, even by the slightest things, like now for instance. The crunching sounds they were making, each step they took. She started to mimic the rhythm that her sister was stepping in. Tapping her legs with each step her sister took, only seconds later was she humming her own tune. But soon after she came back to reality, checked her surroundings.
Beautiful cherry trees surrounded mansion, making her feel almost trapped. But she didn’t even mind, it was dark but her flashlight almost illuminated everything in its path. Making her surroundings seem even more beautiful. The grass was covered in fresh dew also covering her bare legs. She wished she had worn pants, it was quite chilly. But Serenity almost had some sort of resistance to the cold, probably almost an immunity she had built up after refusing to dress properly all these years, so her attire was not usually a concern.
She followed closely beside her sister as they approached a window, she sister opened up her bag and pulled out her water bottle.
“Kaylee, cant you wait until were inside to get refreshed”?. But with closer inspection she saw Kaylee unravel the cloth that kept the bottle from leaking and watched as her sister folded it around her hand.
“Oh”… She spoke softly. If only she thought of the cloth before screwing up her hand in front of the Shinto gate. Her sister started to tear the failed attempt at concealing the window, Kaylee then slowly punched the access glass out of the way. Smart, she thought.
Kaylee slowly climbed into the window but that didn’t matter, she fell on her arse, she must have tripped on something. Nonetheless that would have been real funny on a fail-blog. Serenity giggled after seeing her sister stand up.
“Serenity, get in here! I cant see a thing”!
She rushed towards the window underestimating the height of it. It wasn’t that it was supper tall, but more that fact that Serenity was a little overconfident of her own height. She did some sort of cowboy rodeo clown movement while trying to navigate herself safely through the window. It didn’t work, she almost barrel rolled through the window and landed at Kaylees feet. She immediately pulled her self up and brushed off the dust that covered her butt.
“Shall we”? Serenity held her hand towards the rest of the room.
As she shined her light through-out the room, she faced two Buddha statues on her right, and two on her left. The room had a mystical looking altar, but nonetheless, it looked really old. Serenity wondered how it was even possible that this place was even still standing. The house was probably taken good care of. But the way it looked… She examined the room, trying to look like she knew what she was doing she ran towards almost every object in the room and closely looked at its ancient items. But truth was, she had no idea what she was doing, although it was sure fun. Serenity thought that with a little interior decorating and a decent air freshener this room could be beautiful like it probably once was.
Serenity approached the altar that sat at the back of the room. It looked like some puzzle, she thought of the weird traditions the Himuro family must have had to create such and odd altar. Most were simple, representing something close to the family, like a loved one. This one was definitely resembling something, but it looked like more. No matter how interesting the altar looked Serenity refused to touch it. She knew how meaningful things like that could be, so no matter how curious she was she decided to respect the family altar and only observe. The more she thought of it, the whole room looked complicated in an almost simple way… Maybe that was the style so many years ago?
Serenity continued to look through the room, opening drawers, searching corners, looking for anything that might interest her.
