Actually, Gwendolyn's assumption(and immediate dismissal) of the darkness below being of an aqueous nature was probably the most correct guess of the bunch so far. Much closer than the half-orc thinking that it was pure malice at any rate. The roiling mass below somehow became more distinct in the supernatural light that the mage was shedding. Underfoot, Andre could discern individual ripples and currents beneath the glassy surface by the reflection off of the different levels of water.

What was causing these disturbances, he could not say. He could tell as well as the next person that there was something very wrong with the situation, and the feeling was reaffirmed by Silice moving closer in order to protect him more adequately. The nobleman smiled reassuringly before puffing out his chest and moving forward with a swagger that only looked good on one born of higher status. Andre noticed the orc and the thief getting acquainted and allowed himself another small smile. It was always good to have bodyguards that trusted one another, as opposed to double-crossing fools that cared nothing for human life.

Before the hypocrasy of that thought could dawn on the duke, a drastic change in the atmosphere made him stop dead in his tracks. Silice was already in a wary stance with sword drawn and a third wand in her off-hand. The battle-wise attendant scanned the darkness ahead, but her efforts were fruitless. Just as well, it was not the road ahead that caught Andre's eye. It was below.

No longer did the glass beneath the group's feet separate them from an endless abyss of lightless water. Now, it was white. The first thing Silice noticed was the writhing shock of white hair that moved just under the surface of the glass. It was a massive bundle that pressed against the glass from wall to wall, long enough that it extended into the darkness far beyond Andre's mage-light. Next was the pallid face connected to the hair. With it's flawless ivory skin and soft curves the giant might have been attractive, but the obvious lack of eyes made it seem much more menacing. The giant opened it's mouth and ineffectually an a blood-red tongue against the transparent ground.

The first thing that came to mind was not that of There's a gigantic, colorless woman two inches below me. Nor was it, There is a huge subterranean humanoid that not only breathes water, but somehow manages to find enough sustenance in this dismal environment. No. The very first thought to cross Andre Hellion's mind was: There is some sort of monstrous woman intent on devouring me whole...and barely a fingerlength of glass is keeping it from me.

As if hearing his thoughts, the creature's sightless visage seemed to orient on the mage. The aqua-giant withdrew it's tongue and bared a moutful of flawless pearly teeth. A hand with accordingly pale skin pressed up against the glass next to the wagon-sized face below the group as if it had been there the entire time. Andre paled and Silice took an involuntary step back.

A fracture no greater than the length of one's middle finger formed in the glass above the giant's hand, prompting the oddly feminine humanoid to smile even more broadly. Andre swallowed the growing lump in his throat and took off running down the hall further into the darkness, Silice hot on his heels. A multitude of cracks followed in their wake.
