Miranda stopped swimming. "Where's Kyle?" she asked. oh, the idiot, she thought, swimming back, and when she reached the spot, she froze. "Nereid, get back." she murmured gently, and the nymph backed away. Slowly oh so very slowly, she lowered herself down to where Kyle was, and took his hand. "Whatever you do, don't let go." she whispered, and then, with a powerful kick of both her legs together, she whizzed up, and out of the water, landing back in about 5o feet away. But the shark was fast. he was upon them almost instantly. She kicked her legs as fast as she could, trying to pull Kyle along too. Then Nereid appeared,. She took Kyle's hand, and broke Miranda's grip. Miranda yelled in pain as the shark's jaws closed over her foot, and through bloody water watched her best friend and her brother swim to safety. She let herself drift to unconsciousness.
