The day was waking ā€“ golden rays seeped through the closed curtains of Setsuā€™s closed bedroom window. It was morning already? Impossibleā€¦ she had only just lied down. The girl sighed, pressing her hands to her eyes. Were they swollen? They probably were, seeing as they werenā€™t used to tearsā€¦ but she had cried so much these past few days. Just thinking about the painful hours made her throat close up again, tears threatening to spill out of her eyes. She took in a deep breath and let out a sigh.

No more tears.

If all went well, after today, there would be no need for something as pointless as crying. Slowly getting to her feet, Setsu rubbed her eyes with the sleeve of her sweater. After a fruitless argument with the police the whole night long, she hadnā€™t bothered to change out of her clothes. She still wore the same yellow sweater and gray jeans as before. It was probably better that way since she wanted to get moving quickly.

She unfolded a paper from her pocket and skimmed over it ā€“ a map and address of where she had to go. It had taken her days to make her decision, but Setsu couldnā€™t wait any longer. The police had made it clear to her the night before that they didnā€™t plan to do anything more than they already did ā€“ even when it when there was a studentā€™s life at stake. Even when there were countless students lives at stake, all they could say to her was, ā€œWeā€™re doing all we can.ā€ Setsu didnā€™t want words. She wanted results. She wanted her best friend back safe and sound, to watch movies together again, to walk to school together again.

So she was going to look for help elsewhere.

ā€œI wonderā€¦ if I can rely on them,ā€ she mused to herself as she walked slowly down the stairs of her house. There had been rumors of a group of detectives floating around the internet, and Setsu had been desperate enough to grab at it. However, when the detectives were said to use a ramen shop as a base, how was she supposed to believe in them? She gave an absent wave to her mother in the kitchen on the way out the door ā€“ Setsu wasnā€™t hungry. How was she supposed to eat when her best friend could beā€¦ dead?

ā€œNoā€¦ think positiveā€¦ still alive,ā€ Setsu murmured, chiding herself for her negativity. ā€œAnd these detectives can help me.ā€ However, she couldnā€™t convince herself. Despite her usual overwhelming optimism, only terrifying ideas were invading her thoughts. What if it was already too late? Those depressing thoughts were why she finally decided to go to these detectives, ramen shop or not. Fishing her bicycle from shrubbery in the yard, Setsu glanced at the folded paper in her hand once again. She knew the general area around the shop pretty well ā€“ after all, she had lived in the city all her life. Itā€™s just that she wasnā€™t really a fan of ramen, so she had never visited that particular shop.

Slipping onto the bicycle, she pushed with her feet, and she was off. The wind swept through her short black hair, and quickly dried the remnants of tears in her brown eyes. Setsu was off to find these detectives, and if they couldnā€™t help herā€¦ well, sheā€™d just go find the kidnapper herself.
