Though his mind still felt fuzzy and numb, Zac couldn't help but feel bad when she started crying. Maybe he should have reacted a little differently? But how was he supposed to? This was the last thing he'd been expecting to come home to. But no matter the circumstances, this was Tasha, and she was hurting. He took both of her hands with his and tried to reassure her. "Shh..." He couldn't even bring himself to say the words "it's okay." He knew that just holding her hand through this wasn't enough, so he did his best not to seem uncomfortable as he pulled her into a hug. It wasn't a tight hug, it was a keep-our-stomachs-from-touching hug, but a hug nonetheless. He tried to hold her tight as she cried. His shirt had a growing wet spot already growing on it, but it didn't bother him as much as when his shoulders suddenly dropped. Just a drop of realization had hit him. He forced the words to the two of them, "It'll be okay."

Zac didn't know if it'd be okay. How would anyone know? But he was trying to comfort Tasha and be optimistic, without really thinking about his part in this. "How did this happen?" He whispered, though he knew exactly how it happened. Through all the memories he'd just made in California, his thoughts ran all the way back to the end of school. That one night when they weren't as careful as they should have been. But then, that was a long time ago...
He pulled away, a darker thought coming to mind. He kept his hands firm on her shoulders, letting her know that he was still here and willing to talk. But he had to ask. He blurted it out before trying to think of a more sensitive way to put it. "Is it even mine?"
