Ebony was content with her mission. Capturing Black Agents was reasonably simple, that is if you had a proper set up behind you. If all went to plan they could even get their hands on the Black Knight...
Christian interrupted her thoughts.
Ebony's eyes widened. He had a point there. Eliminating the Black Agents sounded good, that is if they could stop all these issues between the Black Chess and the Soviet Union.
Ebony struggled to conceal a yawn. It was probably way past her normal hours and she still felt a little weak. She started to anticipate what was to come, to go home an curl up on the couch. To pretend she had nothing to do with the Black Chess. She was just preparing herself to be dismissed, when Cade interrupted her thoughts.
"Gaza, can I have I word?"
She stiffened slightly. She disliked Cade using her last name, though he wouldn't know it. For once she wished he could simply call her Ebony. And then there was the slight discomfort of the rather large possibility that he would wish to make a mention of her previous encounter with the Black Chess. Her wounds were still raw from the encounter, and not necessarily the physical ones. Again she thought of her debt to Cade, and shuddered as she thought of what would have happened if he had not intervened. She had seen enough of Requiem's interrogations to know what was instore. She had only been in the hands of the Black side for a limited time, and yet even the few hours they had held her had been almost enough to break her. She felt a chill run up her spine as she remembered the Black Knight's apparent enjoyment of her pain, the blood and the instruments...The sharp pain of the knives and the sorrow of the mental torture. She could still see his ice cold eyes look at her as a hawk might look at a mouse before it tears it apart.
Abruptly she stopped herself. It would do her no good to remember, only to move on. She gave Cade a small nod to his question before taking another sip of the expresso, attempting to calm herself.
