After all of the corrections were made and the drum moved to the left side of the station Striker gave the go-ahead signal to brother Winthrow. The ease of the planning phase was soon off set by the feeling of tenseness which suddenly rushed over every ones body as Winthrow issued the challenge to the hellish beast. Seeing that no one was stepping up to the task of being the second torch bearer Striker picked one up and joined brother Lawrence by the petrol-drum. Lawrence had already taken his position near the wall of the station and so Striker took the remaining position. Casting one final glance at the drum Andrew wondered if he would be quick enough to avoid being blown to bits along with the creature. A rush of dedication came over him as he decided that it was worth it. Even though he had begun to have doubts about the order and the life that he was living aboard the station/world, he was now at peace with it. The slight tinge of doubt which still remained was cast off when he looked at his fellow monks, who were all willing to sacrifice themselves to protect their way of life. Andrew smiled as he cast one final look at brother Lawrence. The mutual admiration that was in his and brother Lawrence's eyes as they shared this final glance was suddenly interrupted by the unmistakable sound of the slug-footed creature approaching them. Strikers nervousness and apprehension was nothing compared to what brother Winthrow must have been thinking at that point. It was still pretty dark on the agriculture level and so Winthrow had to rely on his sense of hearing and the occasional highlight in order to judge distance and bearing.
