"Sand rats?!" Marrik's expression was as calm as still waters, but under his skin, his blood was boiling. He stood to face the man with a furious look in his eyes, fists clenched and prepared for violence. "Did I say help? I meant to say I'm here to protect this village because you can't. You don't even qualify as a snack for the beasts that live on this mountain, that's why the guild sent me here." Marrik stepped even closer, bringing his face just inches from the other man. The rest of the tavern was silent, but at this point Marrik was roaring. "Just how ignorant are you mountain man? You thought I was here for your damned Popo and your tiny lizards?"

He gave the man a violent shove and retrieved his equipment, sliding his helmet back over his head, and replacing his sword on his back. Marrik then turned headed for the door, but as he stepped over his newly made enemy, he left him with a swift kick to the ribs and a warning.

"You ever call me a sand rat again.... I'll gut you like the swine you are." Just as quickly as he had entered, he was gone, Marrik had hardly eaten anything before trouble started, but his appetite was completely ruined at this point. The man hadn't been in the village a whole night yet, and it already left a bad taste in his mouth. As the doors opened, Marrik stepped back out into the snow and wind, walking briskly down the dirt path to the house where he would be staying. The people he had seen out working earlier were now gone, the late nights chill driving them all indoors. The hunter let out a sigh of relief as he took the last few steps to the door, the village elder was right, the house was nothing special but it looked spacious and it was far enough away from that buffoon in the tavern. Marrik grabbed the knob and turned it, but the door didn't open, and after two or three more failed attempts it hit him. "Shit!"
