The Artemis sped through the blizzard as fast as she could go. Jenna and Vasâla had lifted Jacob up and set him down by the railing, Vasâla gave him a large coat and Jenna inspected his wounds.
âVasâlaâŠâ Jacob began, breathing heavily, âGet⊠get her going fasterâŠâ
âYes sir,â Vasâla said, rushing down the hatch towards the engine room.
âNow we need to get you working,â Jenna said, grinning slightly. She injected him with something, then unbuttoned his shirt, to see multiple large bruises on his chest, âLooks like some broken ribsâŠâ
âJury-rig me and get me to my cabinâŠâ Jacob said, trying to get up.
âFine,â Jenna said, taking out some bandages and gauze. She wrapped up his chest and lifted him up, he was clearly in pain, but he tried to hide it.
He slowly went down the ladder, followed by Jenna, who then helped him to his room.
An explosion rocked the ship, Jacob and Jenna looked through the large stern window in Jacobâs room, and there was a gigantic wave of blue flame off in the distance, the plasma coreâs explosionâŠ
âShe got us out, safe and soundâŠâ Jacob said, looking out the window.
âShe always willâŠâ Jenna said, grabbing his jaw with her cold hands. She moved it towards her, and he opened his mouth, âMissing three molarsâŠâ
Jacob looked into Jennaâs pale eyes, lifeless, dead, then said, âWhat do you see?â
Jenna looked back inquisitively. âWhat do you mean?â
âI mean what do you see with those robotic eyesâŠ?â
Jenna let go of his jaw and slowly stood up from the bed, âI see what you see, only better.â
Jacob lied down and looked up at his ceiling, âWhat do you mean better?â
âI mean I see images clearer, I can pinpoint details better, and I can sort the information better.â
Jacob reached into his pocket and pulled out his trophy, the man with the spectaclesâ eye, âWhat if a human were to be given an eye like yours, but only one?â
âI have subroutines to sort through my information, plus my information is sent directly to my hard drive, whereas humans see upside down and their ocular circuitry is crisscrossed⊠So without some sort of a cortical implant the sight from the one eye would interfere with the sight from the mechanical one and the entire brain would shut down. Of course if one had a great surgeon and an eye that is not too powerful, meaning that it can see pretty much the same as a humanâs, then it would be fine, why do you ask?â She turned around and saw the mechanical eye.
âI fought a cyborg with one mechanical eye, this one, and a biological oneâŠâ
âLet me see that,â Jacob tossed the eye to Jenna, she caught it and began studying it.
âThis is amazing, how could anyone create this?â she stated, dumfounded, âthis eye is more powerful than mine, which means the user would need a cortical implantâŠâ
âYou're usually good at sounding human, but not right there,â Jacob said, holding in a smile.
âI could never optimize my bedside manner,â Jenna said, looking at Jacob with a smirk, âI much prefer your company, you do not have that compulsive need of humans to be friendly all the time, or have the need for small talk or pleasantriesâ
âDonât go saying that around the rest of the crew, okay?â
âYes sirâŠâ She said, returning to his bed to continue his treatment.
