"It's just that you look like I'll bite your head off if you take some of my food," she answered curiously, now starting to feel confused herself. With her family as long as you asked first and were given a positive answer it was fine to just take food from someone's plate to sample. In fact it was seen as rude if you ordered something that you thought was particularly tasty and didn't offer to share some of it. The only times when these rules didn't apply was when they had guests and when their extended family came over. Since they were engaged she'd automatically thought that this applied to him as well.



(We really do, do this in my family and to tease the younger ones sometimes we'll snake a piece of food from them!)
