Emmaline blinked softly to the confession of his name, that what she knew him by was all a lie. But now, under this moon, he was only honest with her. Together they seemed to share no secrets or harvest ill intentions towards the other. Both were bathed with confusion and innocents; young in the world with matters of the heart. "Ephraim," Emmaline repeated softly, looking to him with a new curiosity. Yes, this name seemed to fit him better. She gazed to him after this, her eyes searching his face as he continued to speak.

"I have no intention of killing you, my dear Emmaline. I only wish to protect you." Emmaline's breath froze inside her bosom, her eyes watching him carefully. She found his words difficult to accept, and yet she knew they were true. He had become her night angle, a protecter from the dark that always seemed to come to her rescue. am a vampire," he added quietly. "And thus, I am ruled by my insatiable thirst." Looking up to meet her eyes now, his voice was filled with passion as he tried to convey his true nature to her. "I do not want to kill you – but bloodlust will continue to control me. And though I may contain it, I need blood to survive." Emmaline watched as he stepped forward, her eyes locking with his. She waited in silence for him to begin speaking, her words frozen in her throat in deep desire to hear his voice continue on.

"On my life – this horrid life that I lead – I will never hurt you, Emmaline. And I will let no one else come close to hurting you, either."

Emmaline's eyes grew wide to this statement, her body still in thought. Ephraim's face had lost all traces of his true nature. He appeared as human as her. Emma could see the truth inside his dark eyes, even if it was all a lie Emma would not be able to believe differently. She blinked softly and then dashed forward, her small body connecting with his as she buried her head into his firm chest. "I was so scared of her before you came," the young woman whimpered softly, closing her eyes. "I did not think I would survive her attack. My greatest fear was that I would not be able to see you again."

Emmaline muffled her sobs, her strong shell crumbling now that she knew she was not alone. For once in her life, Emma felt as if she could lean against someone. She frowned softly and stepped away, embarrassed by her dramatic display as she attempted to dry her leaking eyes. "I am sorry for this. I just. . . I do not know how to react." She looked up to him and took his hand, her fear of Ephraim slowly drifting away. "Thank you, Ephraim. I am glad I can finally call you by the proper name." She smiled softly before frowning, her eyes gazing off into the horizon. "It will be dawn soon. Are . . . Are the legends true? Will you be harmed by the sun?"
